❝ PEEK-A-BOO ❞
Dazzling sunlight crept from the early morning through the panes of glass creating the oval window allowing Gummy's apartment to see the landscape of the street below.
But it currently was not being used for this purpose.
Gummy had his hands slapped against his face, cobalt eyes scrunched closed underneath as his fingers anxiously spread apart every few seconds. He winced at the sight, fingers becoming side by side once more to block his view.
(Y/n) was by his side; arms wrapped around his with her head buried in his shoulder, terrified to turn her view back to the movements of the television screen.
Kala attempted to keep her emerald gaze fixated on the horrific events taking place on the screen, clawed paws reaching to hide a gasp in response every minute or so.
Harry quivered across the other side of the mint green cushions creating Gummy's sofa, squirming with discomfort as his golden eyes remained closed as he reacted purely to the horrendous sounds.
And now we return to, "Whatever you do stay out of the basement, especially if you're a chameleon!"
Gummy slid his fingers gently from his eyelids as they opened to reveal his panicked azure eyes. He chuckled nervously, attempting to appear brave enough to observe the brutal television show.
Kala shivered, a scream escaping her lungs as the protagonist of the show stumbled into the depths of the basement, unaware of the darkness and danger that lay ahead.
"Stay out of the basement! Especially since you're a chameleon!" She shouted, paw gripping her bottom lip in fear as it quivered.
"She's going into the basement!" Gummy replied, cobalt gaze quickly shifting to Kala before immediately closing from agitation.
Kala sighed. "Nobody ever listens to me..."
Trepidation flooded the viewers of the television as the sound of revving chainsaws rattled the speakers. (Y/n) tightened her grip to Gummy's arm, her face completely hidden into his shoulder as the frightful sounds churned her stomach.
Harry released a shriek, the colours of his scales flickering between luminous blue, florescent pink, neon yellow. The gazes from all three of his companions focused upon himself, confused.
Kala rolled her eyes. "And Harry is... going... going...
... gone"
With that, Harry's scales became a victim to the cold colour of grey, before disappearing. Gummy observed with confusion, yet interest.
Harry was indeed gone, the sound of his panicked shrieks still audible as his body became no longer visible.
Gummy smirked. "That is so cool! I wanna be invisible too!" He yelled, arms raised above his head with joy as his attention had leapt from the horrendous television show to his interest in his companion.
(Y/n) smiled, happy to see her boyfriend no longer petrified of the ridiculous entertainment he had chosen for the group of friends to watch.
Kala chuckled, still observing the brutal movements coating the screen with bravery. "I bet she wishes she were invisible."
Gummy turned to the screen, the sound of growling and rattling chainsaws blaring from the speakers while his expression dropped.
(Y/n) giggled, Gummy's body crushing against the side of herself to hide from the horrendous action, his body shaking a little as her hand gently brushed his back to calm him down...
... while preparing herself for what was to come with his incredible idea of the day...
~
Darkness surrounded Gummy, his hands buried into the depths of an oversized cardboard box in the centre of his living room. The sunlight of the day spilled against the beige material of the container as Gummy crawled over the edge, his feet colliding with his ivory floorboards.
He took a breath of relief. "All done with my super duper invisible machine!"
He examined the completed box with scarlet letters spelling "invisible box" slapped across the side before leaping back into the darkness.
Gummy's bottom collided with the cardboard material of the container's floor, a smile beaming across his face within the darkness of the box.
"Who knew it would be so easy to build!" He cried, a torch sliding into his grip as a finger clicked the switch to activate the light.
"And now, with the flick of a switch..."
Gummy allowed the lighting to illuminate the walls of the boxing, a second switch becoming visible as his fingers of the opposite hand allowed a click to echo.
The boxing began to vibrate, an ecstatic smile spreading across Gummy's face from excitement as he bounced within the carton.
"Science!" Gummy screamed with achievement, tossing the torch to the side as the container's movement came to a close.
"Success!" He cried, observing that the mirror gently attached to the cardboard wall appeared to be blank as darkness returned. "I can't see my reflection anymore! I'm invisible!"
Gummy emerged from within the darkness of the box for the final time moments later, bouncing out of his apartment with exhilaration like a firework ready to explode colours into the night sky.
"Time to enjoy my new found powers!"
~
Morning sunlight continued to pour across the ivory pavement created by slabs of concrete surrounding Gummy's apartment. Gummy himself slowly wandered down the street, head lowered down to see nothing but his feet as he continued to amble.
"Oh man-o! Maybe I'm not invisible after all..." He sighed, feet coming to a stop as memories of the previous few hours played through his mind...
...such as attempting to cheat in a game of cards by peeking into Kala's selection.
Hey! You can't see me! I'm invisible!
Assuming he couldn't be seen while standing in the open of his living room during a game of hide and seek, without thinking twice that he should even try to hide.
Harry found him in the first second of the game.
But... I'm invisible?
Or sneaking through the mammoth queue leading to his miserable neighbour, Mr. Kronk, as he stood in the humid weather on the edge of the street selling a variety of fast foods to the people of town.
He was noticed straight away, a grumble of displeasure and a wiggling finger in his face to send his confidence plummeting to the ground.
But.. but... I'M INVISIBLE!
"There's gotta be a way for me to be invisible! If Harry can do it, so can I!" Gummy continued to talk to himself in the middle of the street, a familiar pair of eyes observing him from the other side of the road.
It was Granny Peters, sighing as she could just about make out Gummy's saddened words of defeat and observing as he stared down to his visible hands with disappointment.
"Oh, poor little Gummy. It breaks my withered old heart to see him so sad..." Granny said to herself, an idea like a lightbulb switching on shooting into her thoughts during the final few words.
She smiled. "How coincidentally fortuitous then, that I've been working on a new invisible ink formula!"
Granny pulled out what appeared to be a pen, its silver blue exterior shining in the sunlight as she held it up with pride.
She wandered towards Gummy, making sure she wasn't noticed as Gummy continued to plod along the concrete slabs of pavement towards home, a heartbroken expression facing the ground.
"This will make his sadness disappear, and him!" Granny whispered, the lid of the pen popping off into her hand as she shot the formula towards her sorrowful companion like a magic wand.
A gust of sparkling smoke shimmered in the breeze as it showered Gummy with the power to pursue his dream. Within seconds, Gummy was nowhere to be seen, although he hadn't noticed this himself...
...it would only be a matter of time...
~
The sound of a door slamming closed echoed through Gummy's apartment, although it was not obvious who had just wandered in.
Gummy continued to amble in sadness, his head remaining lowered until Kala scrambled in front of him. A collision occurred, Gummy snapping out of his miserable thoughts as the two bounced back across the ochre rug in opposite directions.
Kala winced while rubbing her head as Gummy sighed and dusted his arms, without looking down.
"Watch where you're going, Kala!" Gummy groaned at the inconvenience every situation brought in this day.
Kala's emerald eyes widened, a sense of panic running through her veins as she sprung onto the ceiling, claws digging in to ensure she wouldn't budge.
"Who!? What!? Where!?" She stuttered, head flinging back and forth in an attempt to locate the voice.
No success.
"What's up with Kala?" Gummy wondered, heading towards the kitchen.
"Must be drinking too much coffee!" He laughed, scooping an empty glass with one hand and activating to flow of water with another.
"Glad I only drink water!" Gummy continued, switching off the tap once his glass was full.
He sipped his beverage as he paced the floor back towards the doorway, where Harry and (Y/n) had just entered.
Harry quickly came to an abrupt standstill as he noticed a floating glass approaching him. (Y/n) did the same once she noticed, claws scraping her arms to check whether she was hallucinating.
"Hi Harry! Hey (Y/n)!" the sound of Gummy's voice rattled through the room, the glass raising seconds later followed by the sounds of gulping and the water disappearing.
(Y/n) couldn't keep her mouth closed as Harry gasped loudly before her, collapsing to the floor in an astonished mess as he fainted.
She knew the sound of her boyfriend's cheerful voice was coming from somewhere as she scanned the room for any signs of him.
"Gummy? Where are you?"
Gummy chuckled, altering her to the source of the sound which appeared to be the floating glass.
"Awww, you're pretending I'm invisible to make me feel better! That's nice of you!" He continued, raising more confusion as he took another sip from his now almost empty glass.
However, the water showered over a nearby mirror seconds later as Gummy noticed the floating glass for himself. He joined the dots, amazement flowing through his crystal clear eyes as an imperceptible smile spread across his face.
"BAM BOOZIE! I REALLY AM INVISIBLE!"
~
(Y/n) slouched her emotionally drained body against Gummy's mint green couch, a headache beginning to crawl into her skull as she rubbed her forehead with quivering fingers. Her (e/c) eyes could hardly open out of exhaustion as the claws of her other hand tapped against the leather.
It had been at least a couple hours since the now invisible Gummy had discovered his new appearance, by not seeing it of course, and dashed out to play all sorts of tricks on the local people.
(Y/n) clicked her phone to see the time every few minutes, nervously monitoring each second her boyfriend was gone for, afraid something could have happened to him...
She sighed, checking the time once more before hoisting herself into action to track him down.
"Where are you going?" Kala inquired.
"I'm going to find Gummy." (Y/n) simply replied, grabbing her phone and heading out the doorway with determination in every step.
~
(F/c) paws pattered against the luscious green grass of spring, clawed hands raising to guard squinting (e/c) eyes as the sunlight sprinkled down.
(Y/n) could barely keep her eyes open from the light, sweat pouring down places she wasn't even aware could sweat.
She was about to give up. If her boyfriend is invisible, how could she ever track him down in the first place? Why did she even bother? He would have returned to the comfort of his apartment and the support of his friends of his own accord...
Right?
(Y/n) came to a stop, fur wringing in perspiration as her head and arms hung low to the ground. She sat herself into the depths of the lawn, fingers twiddling the strands of perfectly green grass to calm herself down.
Seconds later, she heard a blood-curdling shriek.
A shriek from a voice she instantly recognised.
Gummy...
(Y/n) shot up from the ground, feet thumping once more as her heart pounded at twice the speed. She followed the echoing of the horrific sound, like a compass to track her boyfriend down.
Who was clearly in danger of some sort.
Moments later, she came across the entrance to an animal park, the gate to welcome thrilled visitors left gaping open as the rattling scream seemed to have been reverberated through the many enclosures.
In determination, (Y/n) stormed through the rusted gates and into the depths of the park. She spun on her heels as she continued to walk at a pace, allowing her (e/c) orbs to scan every nook and cranny.
Another scream rang between the cages and gates, the ear piercing sound of danger leading (Y/n) further into the assortment of animals as her heart couldn't possibly pound any faster.
That's when she saw it. A lion. A ferocious, menacing lion, it's golden mane trickling down the sides of its velvet face in a state of gentle softness. Its gaze became focused on (Y/n), pools of intimidating black freezing her to the core in panic.
She immediately noticed that the fierce cat was holding something, something that could not be seen with the naked eye, something invisible...
Gummy!
The dots of evidence had connected in her mind as (Y/n) immediately leapt onto the exterior of the predator's cage, scaling it with her claws digging between the metal wires.
"(Y/n)!" came a cry flooded with panic.
"I'm coming, Gummy!"
She reached the edge of the enclosure, a growling beast whose eyes had shifted to focus on herself just below her paw that stretched into the cage. Gummy reached out in terror, gripping on, although (Y/n) could only feel the sensation.
They leapt back over onto the safety of the luscious lawn surrounding the pen moments later, Gummy's opaque hand remaining clasped to (Y/n) as they scurried away from the zoo entirely.
They held their hands to their knees and panted once they escaped, (Y/n) feeling like her legs could disintegrate from the amount of effort and energy forcing them to crumble away.
"What were you thinking!?" She cried out in shock to an empty space.
"I wanted to pet a lion! I didn't think he would have such a good sense of smell..." Gummy replied in disappointment and defeat.
"I'm scared to ask what else you've been up to. You've been gone for ages!"
Gummy sighed. "I wanted to see how fun it would be to prank and mess around with people when you're invisible. Turns out it's not as fun as I thought."
He continued to explain to (Y/n) on the safe side of town what he'd managed to get up to, showing her a clipboard with a crumpled sheet of paper attached with scribbles of everything he had tried out.
1. Paint moustache
"As you can see, the last one didn't go so well..." Gummy's voice continued in the depths of the humid air - after explaining his other failed attempts of painting a moustache on his grumpy old neighbour Mr. Kronk, licking the ice cream of fellow townsfolk to spook them into believing a ghost was present, sliding down the fire station pole ten times in a row just for the fun of it, and of course petting a lion.
(Y/n) smiled, a sigh of entertainment and exhaustion following. "Remember Gummy, I still can't see you..."
"Oh, right..." He replied, a little embarrassed.
"I'm assuming you've been injured?"
"Yeah." was the straightforward reply.
"We need to get you home." (Y/n) suggested with certainty, grasping into the mist of the air until the fingers belonging to her boyfriend brushed into her hand as she whisked him away to safety.
~
"Who knew lions had such a good sense of smell!?"
"Hold still, Gummy!"
(Y/n) kept a comforting clasp between her boyfriend's hand and her own, thumb gently rubbing his for further solace as sunlight dazzled through the oval shaped window of Gummy's apartment.
Kala aggressively tangled some clean white bandages to her harmed companion's limbs and stomach in the direction the panicked pitch administered, becoming more aggravated by the second in response to his childish complaints.
"Being invisible is the worst! And now I'm gonna be stuck like this forever! And no-one is gonna be able to see me!" Gummy continued to fret, wincing every couple of seconds as the pain stinging his scrapes and scratches became unbearable.
Kala sighed. "But I can see your bandages..."
A lightbulb illuminated her mind.
"And that gives me an idea!"
~
(Y/n) shook her head from the most peculiar sight. A tutu with colouring that matched blossoming spring flowers floated in the air, fresh jeans hovering below. Harry carefully adjusted the clothing as Kala smiled with pride.
"There you go, Gummy. All these clothes will make you visible! No more getting trampled on, run over, or accidentally noggin bonked!" Kala reassured the floating figure of eye cratching clothing.
"That's for sure." came Gummy's relaxed voice, the legs of the jeans slowly raising up one at a time as he examined them.
He smiled with no acknowledgement of his friends at the girly dress that surrounded the majority of his chubby body.
"This pink tutu is easier to see than a highway flare!"
Harry smiled before whispering to his over excited companion. "Just remember I'm gonna want that back when you're done."
(Y/n) chuckled, a summery hat painted with the gentle shade of ivory in her grip before she flung it where she assumed Gummy's head to be.
It landed upon it perfectly, a smile crossing both their faces, not to (Y/n)'s knowledge.
"Now you're styling!" She exclaimed with a giggle.
"What do you think, Harry?" Kala asked, intrigued at what her befuddled friend would have to say.
Harry gasped before her question could fully come to a conclusion, a quivering finger reaching out to direct his feline companions' confused gazes towards the floating model of clothing.
"I think I can see Gummy!" was what followed.
A hand came to (Y/n)'s gasping mouth, from astonishment and a sense of achievement. It couldn't be any more clear, that her boyfriend's adorable grin and sparkling cerulean orbs had returned as visible as the evening sun decorating the floor before him.
"Yeah, Harry. That's kind of the point to wearing all this stuff." Gummy added, everything about him now visible once again and with a tone of confusion because this was obvious.
Kala sighed. "No, Gummy. Harry means he can really see you! You're not invisible anymore!"
Gummy chuckled, taking everything that was said as a joke.
"It's super nice of you to try to make me feel better, but I know I'm stuck being invisible, and I've made my peace with it." He continued, heading out into the open space of his living room with confidence thriving in every step.
"It's time for me to go out in the world and show them the new Gummy!" He shrieked with enthusiasm, another step unfortunately stumbling over the next as he crashed face flat to the ground.
He recovered in seconds, staggering back up in annoyance and a groan became audible.
Gummy glared back down at what felt to be the hundreds of items of clothing restricting his body of his usual lively movement.
"All these clothes are cramping my style!" He shrieked in fury, legs wriggling as he examined the denim material with irritation.
"I'm not really a pants guy..."
