❝ ＳＰＯＯＫＴＡＣＵＬＡＲ ❞

It was almost 11pm, and the only source of light along the street was shining from the windows of a colourful, welcoming apartment block.

Inside said building, (Y/n) the cat was lounging on the couch preparing to watch her sister, Kala the cat, perform her newest karate move. Her friend, Harry the chameleon, was trembling while holding onto the piece of wood that Kala was about to kick. Her best friend, Gummibär the... well, gummy bear, was cheering enthusiastically on his pink beanbag beside her.

Or should I say... her crush? (Y/n) had been best friends with Gummy for as long as she could remember, and had secretly had a crush on him for almost just as long. She just became too nervous whenever she thought of telling him about it, so gave up her hope of ever knowing if he felt the same way.

"Ready to see my new super awesome ninja trick?" Kala asked Harry.

"No." Harry replied, still trembling.

Kala frowned. "Oh come on, Harry! I'll take that as a yes."

"Don't even take it as a maybe."

"Go for it, Kala!" (Y/n) and Gummy shouted with excitement.

"Take it as the very opposite of yes, with about ten exclamation marks at the end." Harry continued.

"Oh come on, Harry! Stop whining and let Kala do her move! She's been practicing for so long and she really wants to show us!" (Y/n) tried to convince him.

Before Harry could reply, Kala had put on her blindfold and was charging towards him. He squeezed his eyes shut in fear and held up the wooden board. Kala jumped high into the air, sending her foot straight through the wood. She removed her blindfold after softly landing on the ground behind Harry. Harry sighed in relief that it was all over.

"Woah! Let me try!" Gummy shouted, leaping off his beanbag.

"Not sure that's a great idea, Gummy. Kala's been training her whole life while you... well you've only got about four and a half seconds experience..." Harry stated.

Gummy clearly wasn't listening, as he put on Kala's blindfold and plopped another wooden plank into Harry's hands.

"GUMMY NINJA!!" He shouted, while leaping into the air, aiming for the wooden board in Harry's trembling hands but completely missing. (Y/n) quickly leapt off the sofa before Gummy shot straight into it, bouncing off towards the ceiling, swinging into the ceiling fan and flying towards the wall, pressing down the light switch with his butt as he landed on it. The room was then in complete darkness, as Gummy plopped onto the floor.

"FUN FUN FUUUN!!" He shouted, which made (Y/n) giggle.

Harry then noticed the room's sudden darkness, and began trembling again.

"AAAH! It's pitch black! Not that I'm scared of the dark of course... but we should probably open the curtains in case anybody else is scared of the dark..."

Harry headed towards the window to open the curtains, tripping over almost everything that was left on the floor due to the room being consumed in darkness.

"Um... are you OK Harry?" (Y/n) asked.

"I'm fine. It's just-" Harry stopped and quietly shrieked at the sound of the wind outside, shivering in fear. "Haven't you guys ever seen any scary movies? Dark and stormy nights are when monsters come out!"

"Cool!" Gummy shouted, jumping up in excitement.

"I wouldn't quite put it that way..."

"OK... super cool? Gummy-licious!"

(Y/n) giggled. One of the main things she liked about Gummy was how excited he got over the silliest and smallest of things, and how he used his name to come up with his own funny words to express his joy. She couldn't deny she found it cute.

"Oh stop worrying, Harry." Kala said.

"Yeah, there aren't any monsters out there." (Y/n) added.

"I suppose you're right..." Harry admitted, before opening the curtains only to be greeted with a small, floating green monster with four stumpy legs and an angry expression. Harry's scales flashed white for a second in fear before he shut his eyes and turned away. He then tried to alert Kala, Gummy and (Y/n), but was so terrified all he could do was stutter.

"Come on, stop fooling around." Kala said, but Harry was still pointing at the window, stuttering.

"What!?"

"Th-that!"

"What that!?"

"He probably means the monster in the window." Gummy casually stated, as Kala and (Y/n) shifted their attention to the floating creature in the window. They shrieked in fear.

"Maybe it's a boogie monster, who just wants to play." Gummy said, trying to break the feeling of fear that was filling up his apartment.

The monster then floated above the window.

"Well whatever it is, it looks like it's heading for Kala's dojo." Harry pointed out.

"Let's go! It's Gummy time!"

Now in Kala's dojo, the gang were searching here, there and everywhere for the mysterious monster.

"Hellloooo? Mister boogie monster?" Gummy shouted. "Are you under here, or under here, or maybe here?" He started looking under and inside everything that was scattered across the floor.

"This really isn't a good idea, you'll just make him angry." Harry said.

"Oh stop worrying..." (Y/n) said.

"Maybe he's a nice monster!" Gummy said, trying to reassure his friend.

"Trust me, I've seen scary movies AND I'm a coward, which makes me an expert on these things!"

"Yoohoo! Are you under here?" Gummy said, looking under more things scattered around the dojo, clearly not listening to Harry.

"Well it looks like he's gone, so let's just head home..."

Once again, Gummy ignored Harry and tried to get the boogie monster to come out from wherever he was hiding.

"Mister boogie monster? Wanna dance? Wanna sing? Wanna stand on your head while juggling rubber chickens?" Gummy flipped onto his head and spun around, making (Y/n) laugh.

"Relax, Harry. If there's any trouble, I'll just karate chop him in half!" Kala said.

"Oh great... then we'll have two of them to worry about..."

"Well I think he might be a nice monster!" Gummy said. (Y/n) also liked how Gummy would always make any situation positive and try to see the best in all people. It's a quality that first attracted her to him.

"But either way, we've got to find him!" Gummy walked across the dojo with a magnifying glass held closely up to his big, blue eyes. "And according to my calculations... he's in this closet!"

Gummy slowly opened the closet's long, wooden doors with its shiny handle, but all that came out was lots of cardboard boxes raining down onto him.

(Y/n) giggled, "You OK, Gummy?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. But where could he be?"

At that moment, the floating monster then reappeared outside the dojo, then slowly drifted away into the horizon.

"There he goes, he's heading for the park!" (Y/n) shouted, pointing out the window.

"We can't let him get away! CHAAARGE!" Gummy shouted, running towards the park.

The gang ran into the darkness of the outside world, past yards of grass and forests of trees, watching the monster glide through the sky. Eventually, Harry gave up and stopped running.

"Oh well, we tried. Let's go home to watch some pizza and eat some TV..."

(Y/n) grabbed Harry's arm, spinning him around to face her and glaring at him.

"Come on, we shouldn't just give up now."

"Don't worry guys! My super awesome phone doesn't know the meaning of defeat!" Gummy said enthusiastically, bringing out his little green bear phone.

"Defeat; going home, and hiding safely under the covers while steering clear of creepy monsters on dark and stormy nights." Harry confirmed.

"But it doesn't say anything about nice monsters!" Gummy said, while tapping on his phone to program it to transform into a mini yellow moped.

The gang jumped on and Gummy sped off to chase the little green monster.

"There he is!" (Y/n) shouted to alert the others that she'd spotted it.

"But it's so high up..." Harry said.

"We can be taller - climb on my shoulders!" Gummy shouted.

Harry climbed onto Gummy's shoulders with Kala on his shoulders and (Y/n) on Kala's shoulders at the very top. (Y/n) reached out to grab the floating monster as they were getting closer.

"He's still too high..." she said in disappointment.

Gummy then transformed the moped into a pogo stick, sending (Y/n) closer to the monster. She eventually managed to jump up close enough to grab hold of one of the monster's stubby legs.

"Got him!" She shouted, as she fell to the ground along with Gummy, Harry and Kala, all rolling on the floor in laughter.

Suddenly, the monster then popped in (Y/n)'s hands, leaving only a deflated piece of green rubber.

"A balloon?" Harry said in a mixture of disappointment and surprise.

"But a nice balloon!" Gummy said, and (Y/n) laughed.

Back at Gummy's apartment, Kala, Harry and (Y/n) were on the pastel green couch, processing the bizarre night they'd just had, while enjoying some popcorn.

"Great adventure, guys!" Gummy shouted from the kitchen.

"All I can say is lucky for him he was just a balloon, because I would've given him a... left... and a right..." Harry punched the air as if showing off what he would've do to the monster if it was real.

"Sure you would..." (Y/n) joked.

Suddenly, a creepy voice came from behind the couch, whispering "I'm the real boogie monster..."

Kala, Harry and (Y/n) leapt off the sofa in surprise mixed with fear, screaming in shock. They then turned around to realise it was just Gummy.

Gummy laughed, "You should've seen your faces! That was the gummiest prank I ever-" He then saw the angered look on his friends' faces as they glared at him.

"Uh... guys...?" he asked nervously.

"GET HIM!!!" they shouted, chasing Gummy around the living room and behind the sofa, with Gummy laughing hysterically.
