Good day, but was it really?
Somi had to go to Yongin with her parents' old vacation house. And since living in Seoul didn't work out for her, she needs a break. A breath of fresh air.
Trying to fit in with the popular people didn't make her happy at one bit. It just prevents her from being bullied.
She did pretty mean stuff that was against her will, just to save herself from bullies.
But before running towards the bus station, she decided to stop by at the bookstore and find a perfect book for the long bus ride.
Perfect timing because of the book sale. Each book is as low as 80ยข. But only the books that nobody want to buy, and the ones that were ruined by rude costumers without ethics.
Some bindings were already removed, poor pages are scattered on the tray. Just like Somi's life right now.
There's this one titled 'If I Lie' which looks decent. And since it's hard bounded, it was a perfect trade.
'I'll definitely buy this one.' she decided, stepping back to head towards the cashier inside the store. Yes, the books on sale are unattended outside the store. People can just shop lift them and nobody gives a fuck.
Confused and heart broken that she had to leave Seoul for a while, she was drifting away sanity that upon stepping back, she bumped into someone.
"Sorry!" she apologized right away, because that's how it should be right? If you hurt someone, they always deserve an apology. Either you hurt them by accident or on purpose, they deserve an apology. It'll take time, but as soon as you finally come to your senses; you should apologize.
He raised his hands as a sign of return apology, or he acknowledged Somi's apology. You can't really tell because he's wearing a mask and a black cap, making it hard to see his face. Only his eyes were visible.
And they were sparkling. Attractive, that Somi didn't realize that she dropped her book on the floor, making a loud thud, but all she can think about are those eyes. How gentle and sad they look.
Before she can ask him anything, he's already walking away from her.
Thoughts like 'Come back' and 'ask for my number' came into mind. But it's not like perfect movie clichรจs like those would actually come true.
It would be unrealistic if he comes back.
But to Somi's surprise, he did come back. He knelt in front of her, making her confused if she developed dementia because of her romantic fantasies.
She lowered her head to see why he knelt.
Was her shoes untied?
Do gentleman like those exist, not only in music videos?
But no!
He took the book, dusting it before taking Somi's hands, giving it to her.
Their skin touching sent Somi's spine shivers. That gesture itself was a cliche she would never expect to happen to her, ever.
But he left just like that.
Millions of thoughts came flooding Somi's head once again. One thing's for sure, she wanted to meet him again. But how? She didn't even see his face to recognize him when that second meeting comes.
But before anything else, she needed to buy a book and get to her bus early. A family friend, Minzy was waiting for her.
Her parents are abroad right now, but she really need to get away from here right now.
Seoul, it's such a scary place. Especially Seoul High, where Sohye is currently taking over.
She was nice at first, but because of her Somi lost herself. Now she's walking around being a stranger to her own self.
Ever since that day she rejected this one nice guy, Kim Samuel. The truth is, she finds him attractive, but her friends didn't think the same. They get disgusted of biracial people, like Somi and Samuel. And since Somi wanted to protect herself, she did the biggest mistake she's capable of.
(Flashback)
"Get away from me Kim Samuel! You're disgusting and I will never go out with you. Do me a favor and stay away from me." she rejected, throwing away her conscience.
The guy just stared at him without emotion. Not even painful expression or a hint of annoyance.
"I'd prefer if you drop out." Sohye whispered to her ear, making her clench her fist, knowing that this is being too much.
"Say it! What are you waiting for?" Sohye whispered on her ear.
"Say it Somi! That's the coolest way to reject this trash." Sohye whispered again.
Somi shivered. She was disgusted with her own self. Rejecting Kim Samuel when in fact, she really likes him.
Ever since the first day, she already noticed him because they're considered the same 'half breeds' as the other students call them. Why can't they just go straight to the point and call them mugbloods. It's easier that way, than to be called something you can only refer to dogs.
"If you say it, you'll be one of us, and nobody would pick on you anymore. Don't you want to be one of us? Insulting a half breed make you pure now." Sohye tempted her, but Somi won't budge.
She and Samuel just stared into each other's eyes as if they're having a telepathic conversation.
"Eeew! I knew it. You like him. What a mutt." Sohye stepped back. Somi glanced at the girls and saw them whispering. It was the worse feeling. When people are whispering about you and giving dirty glares.
"I'd prefer if you drop out." she told Samuel, shocking all the people watching on the hallways.
Sohye was impressed too. How can a half breed insult another one? Now she's convinced that this girl is mean, and that she belongs in this group.
Samuel on the other hand was never seen again. He did as told and dropped out for real and never showed himself ever since.
Killing Somi's soul.
(End of Flashback)
Right after she sat inside the bus, her book kept her company. It was a pretty frustrating book to read when you hate being wronged. It's the best way to describe this book before you read it until the half of it.
After that she understood the protagonist, why she's keeping this secret even if she's being wronged by everybody. It was worth keeping indeed.
Funny how a book makes every hardship easy. First 30 pages and everything is wrong, then after that things get light up until here comes the tragic ending.
"Fuck it." she cursed after finishing the book.
"A sad one?" the guy beside him asked. She shook her head drastically before actually tearing up. She wiped them with her sleeves, refusing to look at him.
"Why are you crying then?" the guy asked another one. Before it gets more annoying, she decided to answer.
"It's tragic. It's not even sad. It's just plain mean. How could an author play a person's emotion like that." she said in between sobs.
Instead of shutting up, the guy starts to chuckle. If only the bus wasn't full, she would change seats. "You think that's funny?" she asked, finally facing him.
She shouldn't have and just continued to cry. Of course she realized that when she recognized the guy's face. It's Kim Samuel. The first ever person she bullied to the extent where he dropped out.
She could just say sorry, or if her pride kicks in, she can just turn away and pretend that she doesn't recognize him.
Besides, he was different now. He got rid of his baggy clothes, and his dreadlocks. Now he looks like a different person.
He looks good then, he looks a lot better now, and it shows because the girls sitting across them are taking stolen pictures of him.
"It's been a while, Jeon Somi." He saluted and winked. Where the fuck did he get his confidence?
"Samuel, I-I...I'm Sorry." she whispered the last part that Samuel could barely hear her.
It was a surprise, that she can finally admit her wrong. Maybe he's been gone too long that she didn't know how much things have changed.
When she noticed that he didn't respond, she said it loud and clear. "Kim Samuel, I'm so sorry. I was a bitch and I deserve to go through what happened to you." she apologized once again.
But that was long forgotten by Samuel. After being rejected, he already found himself breaking hearts, and that covered up that painful day. He's not the reject now.
Seeing Somi so vulnerable, he thought he should play her a little. Besides, it was her who said she deserved to go though what he dealt with.
"Just treat me lunch when we get there. Then, I'll accept your apology." he said.
Somi immediately nodded, accepting his request. It's the least she can do for tormenting him.
He was laughing deep inside because he knew that this girl would agree to everything he asks her to do. Now the tables have turned. "Cool." he muttered. "I guess this is going to be the date I was hoping for, a few years back." he said smiling, giving Somi the wrong idea.
She was out of words because she thought Kim Samuel looked forward for this. That Samuel still likes her.
...
A/N: Hello! Thanks for stopping by and checking it out. To those who don't know me yet, I write too much cliche to the point where it's sickening. Read at your own risk.
