Damn. Final chapter guys.
You're welcome to listen to a sad song while reading this chapter :))
"It's okay. I deserve it."
You woke up with a start. You gasped for air, glipping your eyes a little. You shot a few glances at the room you were in - Rapunzels. You laid in her king-sized bed, and the room was lit up from the sunshine, coming through the windows.
You looked down at yourself and saw, that someone must have changed your clothes. You were in a red T-shirt and black night shorts. You shrugged. It was comfy.
For a moment everything seemed normal. Like how it used to be. But then you remembered yesterday's events, and you hurried out of bed.
You had saved Corona yesterday. Almost by yourself. And you had saved Varian. Where was he? Where was your brother? And Cass and Rapunzel?
You looked back at the bed. It looked like Raps had slept there too. So where was she now?
You reached for the door, but just before doing so, you hesitated. Were you prepared for what you were going to see? What if some of your friends actually had died? What if Varian had turned evil again? What if the villagers had...
Your eyes shot wide open, as you burst through the door, running through the hallway.
The villagers were probably not too happy with Varian right now. You had to find him, and mentally prepare a Varian-defending speech.
Please, dear lord, say he's okay, say he's okay. You kept saying to yourself.
Your guts told you to head for the throne room, so that was what you did. You ran as fast as you could, and pictures in your head popped up, from when you had run this exact same place, not in order to find Varian but to escape from him.
You shook your head and scrunched your no. The past is in the past, right?
You stopped right outside the doors to the throne room, putting an ear to the door. You listened closely.
"I just don't... It doesn't seem fair..." It was Rapunzel's voice speaking. You couldn't help but feel a great relief, just by hearing her voice again.
"It doesn't seem fair?" Another voice repeated. King Frederic. "I tell you what isn't fair. That he nearly killed us all. What he put all the villagers through. Some of them lost their lives because of the moon-creatures, because of him. Remember what he did to our kingdom. He took everything it stood for. The happiness, the sun... If it hadn't been for (Y/n)..."
"I don't think (Y/n) will allow it." Your brother spoke. Once again, the weight from, your shoulders lifted. Eugene was okay.
"And that's exactly why we're not going to tell her." King Frederic said. Haha, jokes on him. But for real, they were talking about Varian. But what was it, that didn't seem fair, and they weren't going to tell you?
"He's just a kid." Rapunzel's voice cracked.
"Just a kid!?" An angry and unknown voice spoke up. Probably a villager. "A kid that have been the cause of several people's death. He's the reason my wife isn't with us today!"
"Listen to the villagers, Rapunzel. Remember what he's done. It's for the best."
"It's for the best." Rapunzel sighed. You couldn't take it anymore. You were going in. Right now.
You opened the doors and saw Cassandra, Eugene, Rapunzel, the King and Queen, Xavier, Lance, and some villagers stand in one big circle. Every pair of eyes. was on you.
"What's for the best?" You spoke up.
"Speedy!" Eugene exclaimed, before running over to you, giving you a bear hug. Cass and Raps followed right after.
When you hugged them, your heart got filled with joy. It was so good to see them again, and know that they were okay.
Clementine was there too, and it happily ran over to you, its tail swinging from side to side. You couldn't help but be surprised. How was Clementine here? It's the daytime...
Well, I won't complain, you thought as you patted its back.
"(Y/n)." Ariana said solemnly. "Thank you for-"
"Yeah, no problem." You interrupted her. "Now back to my question: What's for the best?"
King Frederic sighed. "(y/n), before we tell you, you have to understand. This is for the best. I know you care about Varian, okay? But look at what he's done." He gestured for you to look at the throne room, but you kept looking at him. You knew perfectly well how the throne room was looking, with cracked walls, broken windows, and the broken automatons. You were here yesterday, after all.
The king continued. "He tricked you, Rapunzel, Cassandra, Andrew, and Eugene out on a trip, where he murdered Andrew himself. He's shown violence towards you plenty of times. He let the rocks spread to Corona, knowing perfectly what it would do to the sun. He took over the kingdom. He threatened the villagers of Corona with his automatons and moon-creatures, and some of them even killed innocent people on his command. He harmed My daughter-"
"I'm perfectly aware of what he has done." You spoke, crossing your arms. "After all, I was there."
Cassandra put a hand on your shoulder. "(Y/n), you don't understand-"
"No, it's YOU who doesn't understand." You pointed angrily at everyone, especially Frederic. "I know that he has done bad things. Some very bad things. To me, as well as everyone else. But it wasn't... It wasn't him! He let his dark emotions get the better of him, and that... Wasn't his fault! I saved him! H-He's good again now. Throwing him into prison, won't help him, it will-"
"He's not going to prison, (Y/n)." The king spoke slowly.
You rose your brows, looking at your brother. He looked at you with a sad expression. Then you looked at Rapunzel. She looked down at her shoes. You began laughing awkwardly. "Then what's the problem?"
"He will be executed."
-
You coughed a little, glipping your eyes. "H-he will be... what?"
The king repeated, but you didn't hear him. Because you perfectly heard him the first time. But it hadn't sunk in yet.
You grabbed Eugene's arm for support. Your ears started ringing. "Y-Y-You can't... I won't... I-"
You fell to your knees, and Rapunzel hurried down beside you. She has tears in her eyes, but not nearly as many as you. "(Y/n) I know it seems unfair. B-But you need to understand, that no one in corona can live peacefully while he's around. A-And it will be quick, he won't even feel a thing."
You couldn't believe her. You suddenly felt a great hatred towards everyone in the room. You stared at her, wide-eyed in disbelief. Was this real? Was this really happening?
Cassandra kneeled down in front of you. "It was either that or life-time in a closed prison cell. (Y/n) he would lose his mind down there. This is for the best, this way... He won't suffer for eternity."
"Y-You'll... Y-Y-You'll-" You stammered, but you couldn't even speak. You couldn't even think. The only thing you could do was listening to your own loud heartbeat, beating faster and faster.
They would kill him.
You managed to look up at the king, and say one word. "When?"
You couldn't see his expression. Your vision was way too blurry. So you focused all of your energy on hearing what he answered.
You heard the king sigh. "At noon. But (Y/n), I don't think it's a good idea to-"
You didn't hear the rest of it. You were already far out of the room, running as you have never run before. And even faster.
Because it was noon right now.
You ignored them screaming your name. You just kept going like your life depended on it. Because somehow, it did. You didn't want to live in this world without Varian in it.
Not a minute had passed before you were running through the royal garden, and down the path to the village. The sun stood high on the sky, and not a single cloud could be seen. It was once again a wonderful day in Corona, except the most horrible thing was about to happen. Not a single person was to be seen in the streets, but as closer you got to the centrum, the more you could hear dozens of people screaming things like "justice!", "Make him pay!", "For Corona!" and stuff like that.
You ran faster, if that was even possible at this point. You didn't think at all. You didn't have any second doubts. The only thing you could concentrate on was to save Varian. The only thing on your mind was Varian. His face, his grin. His dark hair, his cute smile. Every memory of you and him flashed through your eyes, as you kept running and running. You didn't have a fair chance to catch your breath, and the black dots that had kept you company a lot of times during this journey had returned.
You turned around a corner, nearly falling due to your speed. But for once in this story, you kept your balance.
You could see the crowd of people now. There was more than you had expected. They all stood in a circle, all centered around him. Varian. Who was down on his knees, looking absent into the air. There were two guards in front of him, each of them with raised swords.
"STOP!" You screamed at the top of your lungs. "LOWER YOUR WEAPONS!"
The crowd of angry and confused villagers looked surprisingly at you. But the most important thing was, that they stepped aside, letting you bypass them.
"It's (Y/n)!"
"Our Saviour!"
"She's probably here to kill him herself."
You got into the circle, running in front of Varian. You pointed warningly at the soldiers. "You're not going to hurt him, you hear me?!" You sounded so angry and convincing that it even surprised yourself.
"B-But the king's order's-"
"If you'll hurt him, you have to go through me first." You spoke with a clear determination.
You kneeled down beside Varian, who hadn't seemed to notice your presence yet. You took both of his hands, and he slowly looked up.
"(Y/n)?" He spoke once he saw you. His eyes were red, but they lit up when they saw you. Then he shooked his head. "W-wait, am I-?"
You began laughing and crying at the same time. You wrapped your arms around him, pressing him against you so tightly, burying your head in his chest. "No." You whispered. "You're very much alive."
You let go again, taking his head in your hands. You pressed your foreheads together.
"I made it." You whispered to yourself. "I made it."
Now Varian took your head in his gloved hands. "I thought they were..." He sighed. "(Y/n), I'm so sorry. For everything I've put your through."
You smiled. "I forgive you."
Then he took the back of your head and pressed towards him. And he desperately pressed his lips against yours. You threw your arms around him and kissed him back, the warm feeling inside of you both rising.
But then the yelling from the villagers cut through to you.
You were their hero. And Varian was their villain, that they had sentenced for death. And them seeing you kissing him, made you a villain in their eyes as well.
The people of Corona may be known for being happy and positive. They do live in the kingdom of the sun after all. But every person has their dark side.
And they couldn't accept Varian's.
It was Varian's gasp that caused you to open your eyes. It was the villager's screams of "Justice!" that made the fear rise in you.
The disease is a disorder, where a person can have multiple personalities - also known as a personality disorder...
And when you pulled away, it was the sight of the spear coming through Varian's stomach that caused your world to fall apart.
It can be caused when a person has gone through something very traumatic, or have experienced something beyond devastating...
A whole crowd of people stood behind Varian, with a wild expression on their face. They looked like animals, as they held the spear.
Like, at one point a person can be very sweet and caring, and one second later this person could switch personality into a serial killer...
The events that happened after, came in a blur. Holes were in your memory.
The disease involves memory gasps or ordinary forgetfulness...
But you remember Varian bleeding in your arms. You remember him telling you that it was okay. That he deserved it.
The personalities alternately show in a person's behavior...
You remembered the light in his eyes die out, right after him saying; I Love you.
Those episodes can especially be triggered by rage or sadness...
And finally, you remember yourself standing up, your once white shorts now matching your red top. You remember seeing red. You remember yourself raising your hand, black light coming out from your fingertips. And in one single hand-movement, the light in the villagers eyes died out as well. They were dead before they hit the ground.
They have no control over their actions...
You had killed every single one of them in pure rage.
If you're the unlucky owner of this disease, you can be very dangorous...
But what you remembered the most;
~Was the new voice in your head, telling you to do so.

Now that this was the final chapter, i want you all to know, that this was a story, where I've tried my best to portray the absolute worst case of the idea, of DID. And therefore, what you have read in the last 30 chapters, is an inspired version of the disease, and it is FICTIONAL! DID is completely harmless, and I do not want to send a wrong message. I'm not an expert, at all, and therefore the discription of the disorder that I've written above, is for the entertainment - because as a writer I would do anything to get you on the edge of your seats. It's not possible for someone that acctually has DID to struggle with anything that's similar to what I've written. Thank you.

Haha. Wow.
What an ending :)
It was actually quite emotional for me to write. Of course, because this chapter is SAD, but also because it's over now, and I've really enjoyed writing this story. ):
HAHA, I guess you could say I've enjoyed seeing you all suffer.
BUT THIS IS NOT THE END GUYS!! I mean well, it's the end of this story, but it's not the end of me writing Varian x Reader stories for your little asses. <3
There will be one more chapter of this story, but that'll be a voting chapter about what my next story should be about, so we can decide it together. :)
So hang around, okay?
And lastly, I want to say thank everyone who was been with me on this lil' writing journey. Thanks for spending your time reading it, and thanks for all the support.
Well... Thanks for this time.
-Avery's out!
-Hehe, I've always wanted to say that
~OH, AND MAYBE THERE'LL BE A MEME CHAPTER!~
