KOKICHI OUMA
"Umm... wrong time?" Kaede crowed, sheepishly, a nervous chuckle trailing behind.
Her legs were outside of the entrance while her upper half remained in my room, showing how she wanted to escape but couldn't. She ran her hands down her hair, riveting her eyes across my room to stare at something less awkward.
"You're damn fucking right, what the hell are you doing in my house anyway!?"
She flinched at my retort, and slightly backed away. Clearly, she found herself in an awkward situation that she couldn't pull herself out of. But neither was I going to let her out of it, because I craved answers at that moment. She fiddled with her hands, probably stirring up a lame excuse to how she broke inside my house. I was about to break the silence, when finally, something valid poured out of her mouth.
"I met Maki at Speedway and she invited me over, she's at the door right now with your gum."
Almost as if it were on cue, Maki burst into the room with my pack of gum, only to see the sight of Shuichi awkwardly on top of me. He showed off a sheepish smile, and nervously waved. Maki looked rather bewildered as she slowly set the gum down and looked at us with three eyes.
"Umm... what-?" Was all she happened to muster in the stuffy air of the once tranquil room.
. . . . .
"Wait ok, let me get this straight- *sniff* so, you two were hitting it off while I was gone and...," Maki trailed off, unable to contain her laughs, as she stared at the three of us.
"Pfft- I'm so sorry. Anyways, umm- Kaede found you both, let me say... tangling, yeah that's the word, tangling with eachother *sniff* stop... that's so-."
I crossed my arms, and looked at Maki, wondering why she was laughing. The situation wasn't all so comedic especially for somebody like her who rarely laughed at anything. She only laughed at Kaito's lame ass jokes, so her humor seemed pretty new to me. Yet, despite the unsettling feeling in the room she continued laughing while everyone else listened.
"Yeah Maki... that's what happened, why is that so funny to you?" I said, my voice filled with a snazzle of pert.
Instantly, she stopped laughing and stared at me within a cavalier sentiment. I snapped that same expression back, fighting with her actions.
She snapped her head back, as I did the same, copying her every move.
"Ahh, so now we're playing follow the leader,"
"No the fuck we are not," I snapped back instantly, irritated from her wild expressions.
She gasped, balling her hands into fists like she usually did when she was angry. I instantly backed up, but kept my stance strong as to not hastily show my weak side.
"Then why are you giving me that snarky ass additude?" She said in annoyance.
"I'm not giving you an additude I just asked you a question... what do you find so funny about the situation?"
She furrowed her eyebrows and slowly crossed her arms, sucking on her teeth. She tilted her head to the side, easily giving me that eager lawyer look. I didn't move my body or my expression, I just waited for her return. Shuichi looked like he was ready to block any flimsy attack she made against me as he practically lunged over her.
"I just thought it was funny because earlier today you guys stated you weren't in no relationship but here you are getting jiggy in my presence. Are you guys fuck buddies or something?"
Shuichi instantly burst into laughter, running a hand down his face causing everyone to look at him. As much as I wanted to laugh too, my face was too hot to do so. How could Maki assume such a thing? But, yet again, I wasn't opposed to the idea of being fuck buddies.
"Pfft- no, we aren't fuck buddies. We're just friends, God Maki."
Friends...? Wth.
I arched an eyebrow, and pursed the corner of my lip in confusion. How could we just be friends? We both clearly like eachother, and we just... nevermind. Maybe we were just friends. Maki looked over at me for approval, to which I nodded in response.
"Yeah, we are... just friends," I said with a sheepish, and obviously fake smile.
Maki looked at me with concern and took my hand. I knew she sensed my pain although nobody else could. Having been in pain for many years throughout her childhood, she could sense when somebody was going through the same thing. That's what made her so supportive. She gently yanked onto me, leading me out of the room.
"I need to um- talk to Kokichi for a moment. You two, just wait right there."
. . . . .
Maki slowly tapped her feet onto the floor waiting for me to talk. What was I supposed to say? I was just fine, she was taking the situation too seriously. Or was I just lying to myself as per usual? The world may never know.
"Come on Kokichi, I know you're hurt,"
"For fucks sake Maki, I'm fine... stop trying to get me to admit things that aren't true. Me and Shuichi are just friends."
She sighed, setting a hand onto my shoulder. Her expression already said enough to me; that she was not here for any of my lame excuses.
"Fine, maybe I... maybe I don't really like that stupid term. What does friendship even mean to him at this point?"
I watched as her expression slightly changed, her hands letting go of me. She crossed her arms and formed a feeling of understanding onto her face.
"He's being such an ass to you Kokichi. How were you guys just making out an hour ago and now you're still friends."
I sighed, running my hair through my hands in defeat. Maybe she was right. He was being shitty now, which only made me feel bad.
"Dont let him get to you, if he doesn't want you, you shouldn't either," Maki crowed, reassuringly.
As much as that advice was aimed to be helpful, it wasn't helping me at all. I just couldn't follow up with such a difficult task. Not wanting him was the equivalence to getting an A+ in Math. It's just not possible.
"But Maki, I do want him, I want him so bad... I can't even put it into words," I said, looking at the floor in embarrassment of the words I had just spat.
She shook her head slowly and sighed, already giving me the idea she was going to say something I didn't want to hear.
"Kokichi... he's not worth it. You don't want to go through what you went thro-,"
"Stop. I... I get it."
I began to leave the scene, feeling the doorknob to my bedroom with my palm. She tapped onto my shoulder, causing me to turn around in response. She gestured a smile towards me, and I turned back around exhaling a pot of breath I forgot I was pocketing.
I opened the door, met with utter disgust. There, was Kaede, obviously flirting with my... friend. Her face was red, she was twirling her hair, and laughed at everything he said. Shuichi laughed with her in response, my room filling up with laughter. I watched as they enjoyed eachothers presence; a bag of jealousy occupying me.
All I could think about at the moment were thoughts of Kaede and Shuichi together doing things only I wanted to do with Shuichi myself. I felt the anger bubbling in me grow stronger.
And without thinking, I pounced at her.
