PLEASE READ:
So I'm going to start posting chapters off these books on Sundays, and my other book '8 o'clock' on Monday's :))
Sam stood, staring out at the glowing city beneath him. The cold air was flowing past his cheeks turning them a bright red. His teeth were chattering, but he didn't care. He sat down, flinging his legs to dangle over the side of the very tall building. He listened to the sound of beeping cars and rushing traffic, the sound of L.A. , was a way to describe it. He peered over the edge, expecting to feel his stomach lurch, but there was nothing. His phone was vibrating constantly in his pocket, but he didn't answer. He knew who it was, but he still ignored it. He continued to listen to the city, the sun slowly setting over the horizon. He could faintly see the Hollywood sign in the distance, but it was small and faint. He remembers the first time he saw the Hollywood sign. That feeling of excitement, happiness. He remembers racing with Colby through the streets of L.A., the last one to see the sign bought the other one McDonald's. Colby won, of course. Sam had complained that it was because of the height difference, but Colby had simply laughed at him. Sam smiled softly at the memory, and shifted closer to the edge of the building. He closed his eyes, standing up. He breathed out deeply, his feet basically dangling over the edge from how close he was. One more step, or one more large gust off wind would do it. Sam lifted his foot, hands clenched into fists, but before he could do anything else, he was interrupted by the clash of the metal door opening behind him. He was suddenly aware of the sound of sirens and the flashing lights that were dancing through the roads of LA, heading straight towards him....
Sam turned around, being met with a police officer, a young man, maybe just a bit older than Sam.
"Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to step away from the edge please," the man ordered, but Sam just stared at him.
"Please son, it isn't worth it," he tried again.
Sam just chucked dryly. "Wanna bet?" The blonde challenged.
"Listen to me, Sam isn't it?" The police man continued.
"How do you know my name!" Sam asked.
"Sam, please just come away from the edge. We can get you help. I promise you it's all gonna be ok, just come away please," the man continued to plead. But Sam wasn't having any of it. He turned around and sat back down, his legs dangling over the edge once more.
"Just let me through! I'm his friend he'll listen to me!" Sam heard from the stairwell. He was instantly aware of who's voice it was; he knew it well.
"Sam!"
He was much closer now, probably directly behind him.
"Sam... it's colby."
Sam smiled, but didn't turn around to look at his friend.
"Sam?" Colby asked again. Sam didn't answer, just stared down from the edge of the building. The blonde heard footsteps approaching him, but he didn't react.
"Sir, please do not go any closer."
But the footsteps continued. Soon, Sam felt a presence sitting down beside him, and soon his legs weren't the only pair dangling from the ledge. He felt somebody gently placing their hand on his knee, and that's when he finally looked up. He was met with the beautiful eyes of Colby Brock, his best friend. The brunettes eyes were red and his cheeks tear stained. Colby smiled sadly at the blonde.
"I've been worried Sam," colby began, and to his suprise the blonde didn't look away.
"God, I've been looking for you all night, you didn't answer your phone...."
Colby didn't finish, instead he started rubbing circles on Sam's knee with his thumb.
"What are you doing up here?" Colby asked, but Sam didn't answer. Instead, the blonde glanced down at the ambulance and the police cars parked underneath him. He could see people looking up at him, it made his skin crawl. Colby followed his gaze, squeezing Sam's knee when he saw the tears building up in the blondes eyes.
"Sam, please just... come away from the edge. You're not in trouble, they're just worried, I'm worried too. You trust me right?" Colby asked, concern filling his eyes. Sam nodded, god he trusted Colby more than anyone else in the world.
"Then come with me, please. We can go home, watch a movie, eat junk food whatever you like, please Sam," colby pleaded. The blonde shook his head no.
"I can't," Sam said simply.
"I.. I have to do this Colby you don't -"
A sob cut him off, but colby understood.
"You don't have to Sam. This... this isn't the answer, don't you see it? Sam, people love you and..."
"No they don't," the blonde sniffed.
"How do you know that," Colby sighed, his hand leaving the blondes knee.
"Because nobody cares about me!" Sam sobbed, hands flying up to his face as he cried.
"Sam! Of course they care about you for gods sake. All our friends have been out tonight looking for you, calling around; asking about you. I've been worried.. we've all been worried sick," colby ranted, his hand finding Sam's and griping it tightly. Sam stared at colby, and watched tears fall from the brunettes eyes. "Please just come back Sam... I need you," colby whispered. Sams eyes softened as he watched Colby cry, and in that moment his decision was made. He stood up, making Colby jump. The brunette hurriedly stood up after him, gripping the blondes forearm in case he decided to do anything stupid. And to Colbys relief, Sam turned around and walked away from the edge, without saying anything. Colby followed, letting heavy breaths of relief leave his lips. The policeman looked at Sam, placing a hand on the crying blondes shoulder.
"Ok, ok good lad," the police man smiled softly. Sam looked down at the floor, turning around to look for Colby. He wanted his best friend.
Colby was stood behind the blonde, wiping the tears from his eyes. Sam walked closer to him so their arms were brushing against each other. Colby smiled, as the policeman turned for a brief moment to talk to someone on the stairwell.
"Hey.." Colby whispered. Sam looked up and met his friends gaze.
"Come here."
Colby opened his arms and Sam gladly walked into them. He buried his face in Colby's chest, the smell of his best friend comforting to the distraught blonde. Colby's hand was pressed to the back of Sam's head and his face was buried in the boys blonde hair.
"I love you so much... I'm so sorry; I'm a crap friend," colby cried, tightening his grip on the blonde. He was afraid that if he let go, Sam would disappear. Sam didn't respond, but he pressed his cheek further into Colby. And right then, in that moment, Sam believed that maybe, just maybe, he'd be alright.
