Y/n sat in class, staring at the empty seat next to her. She wasn’t sure what to expect today but she wasn’t ready to face Johnny yet.

Daniel walked in and saw the seat next to her so he sat down without a word.

As usual.

Just as she thought she could relax for a moment, Johnny came into the room. He looked at Daniel and then at Y/n.

β€œHey, give me the seat.” Johnny said.

"Fuck..." She muttered.

Daniel didn’t argue. He stood up and moved to another seat, giving Johnny the spot next to Y/n.

Johnny sat down, his eyes immediately on her.

β€œY/n, can we talk about last night?” He asked quietly amd his voice was a little desperate.

But Y/n didn’t look at him. She stared straight ahead with her hands clenched in her lap.

She didn’t want to face him, didn’t want to deal with everything that had happened.

She stayed silent, hoping he’d get the message.

Johnny tried again, a little softer this time.

β€œPlease, just hear me out.”

But Y/n didn’t respond. She couldn’t. Everything was too much and the last thing she needed right now was to confront what had happened. She couldn’t bear to look at him.

Johnny sat there, feeling the distance between them grow. He knew she was ignoring him but he didn’t know how to fix it.

In Y/n’s mind, she knew she had to avoid Johnny. If she talked to him, there would be no going back and everything would be even harder.

It was better to stay silent and ignore him. She couldn’t deal with what was happening and talking about it would just make everything worse.

Johnny, however, wasn’t giving up. He kept looking at her, trying to get her attention.

β€œY/n, please, I need to talk to you.” He said quietly.

β€œI’ll talk to your dad. We can figure this out together.”

But Y/n didn’t say anything. She kept her eyes forward. Her heart was racing, but she kept her silence. She couldn’t let herself fall into the conversation.

She had to keep away from him, even if it hurt.

He knew she was shutting him out but he wasn’t going to give up on them that easily. He wanted to make things right but he didn’t know how to reach her.

Suddenly, Johnny knew he had to take a risk.

β€œYou’re just being weak, Y/n. Always running away from everything.”

β€œDon’t you dare say that to me, Johnny!” She snapped.

The Cobras in the back of the class were all shocked, looking at each other. Daniel was also surprised, not knowing what to say.

"Damn." Dutch muttered.

The teacher, hearing the commotion, turned around.

"You two, get out of my class!” He shouted.

Y/n didn’t argue. She was too frustrated and her emotions were all over the place.

She stood up quickly, heading for the door. Johnny followed right behind her, not letting her leave alone.

"Johnny definitely did that on purpose. He knew it would get a reaction." Tommy suggested

"Yeah, he wanted her to snap so she'd talk to him. He's trying to break through but it’s not the right way." Daniel agreed.

β€œHe’s pushing her but I don’t think it’s gonna help. She's already upset.” Bobby sighed.

β€œHe knows he can’t just walk up and have a normal conversation with her. He’s trying to make her feel something.” Dutch added.

β€œBut that’s risky. If she doesn’t want to talk, pushing her like that could make things worse.” Jimmy shrugged.

As Yn walked down the hallway, Mike saw her and waved.

"Hey, Y/n!" He called but she didn't respond.

She kept walking with her mind focused on everything going on.

"Hey, what's wrong with you?" He asked but she still ignored him, not even looking back.

Just behind her, Johnny caught up and heard Mike’s comment.

"Yeah, she's not in the mood, Mike. Try again later." Johnny smirked.

Mike looked at Johnny, unsure what was happening, but Johnny didn't give him a chance to say anything more. Johnny rushed past him and hurried after Y/n, trying to catch up with her.

Shs kept walking, ignoring Johnny as he called after her. She didn’t want to deal with it. But before she knew it, Johnny grabbed her wrist, stopping her in her tracks.

"Hey!" She snapped, trying to pull away, but Johnny held on. He turned her around to face him.

"Listen to me, Y/n..I heard you last night. You said you love me. So stop pretending like you don’t."

Y/n’s eyes filled with tears but she quickly blinked them away.

"You don't understand..There’s no way we can be together. Our families... they hate each other."

"I know that but can’t you just be strong for us? Can’t we fight for what we want, despite all of that?"

"I can’t, Johnny. I don't want to fight. It’s too much." She pulled her wrist out of his grip, stepping back.

"I’m sorry but it’s not going to happen."

Johnny stared at her, disappointed.

A/n: you are a fucking disappointment.

"So, that’s it? You’re just going to give up on us? Just because it’s hard?" He taunted her.

Y/n didn’t say anything. She turned away, not wanting to face him anymore.

Johnny’s patience was wearing thin. He grabbed her arm again, this time more forcefully.

"I’m asking you one last time, Y/n. Are you really going to give up on us like this?"

Y/n yanked her arm out of his grip.

"Yes!.I’m giving up because it’s not worth it! Our families will never let us be together and I’m done fighting for something that’s never going to happen!"

Johnny clenched his fists.

"You think it’s stupid, huh? You think it’s stupid that I’m willing to fight for us but you won’t even try? That’s the stupid part! I’m here, I’m trying to make it work but you’re just sitting there saying β€˜no’ like it’s the easiest thing in the world."

"You don’t get it, Johnny! It’s not that easy for me, either! I’m tired of being caught in the middle of all this. I don’t want to lose everything just because we want to be together."

She was so stressed that she was making no sense. Even she knew it.

"You think I don’t know that? You think I don’t know how hard this is? But I’m not just gonna walk away from you because it’s hard. I’m not gonna let you push me away, just like that."

Y/n threw her hands up in exasperation.

"You don’t get to make me feel bad for trying to protect myself, Johnny! I’m trying to keep everything from falling apart even more!"

Johnny’s chest heaved with frustration.

"You think this is protecting yourself? Running away is protecting yourself? You’re not even trying, Y/n. You’re just giving up because it’s easier than fighting for what we could have!"

"Well, maybe I’m done fighting! Maybe I’m tired of always being the one who has to compromise. Maybe I’m tired of this stupid game!"

"Yeah, well, maybe you’re just too scared to fight for what you really want! Maybe you don’t even know what you really want and you’re too afraid to admit it!" He scoffed.

Y/n’s breath was coming in short gasps.

"You don’t know anything about me! You don’t know what it’s like to be stuck in the middle of this mess, with everyone expecting me to pick a side!"

"I’m right here, Y/n! But you’re too busy looking for an excuse not to be with me!"

Y/n knew he was starting to make fair point and she had to make him stop. Then, something clicked. She remembered Heather.

"Maybe... maybe Heather would be better for you." She said, almost as if trying to convince herself more than him.

"She seems to like you. Maybe you should be with her."

Johnny’s face turned red with anger.

"Are you seriously suggesting that? You think I’d be with someone else just because you’re too scared to be with me? That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard."

Y/n stepped back, stunned by his reaction.

"I’m just trying to help! I’m just saying-"

"No, you’re just trying to push me away, like you always do! Don’t make it sound like you care about what happens to me. It’s stupid to even bring up Heather."

"I’m not trying to hurt you, Johnny...I’m just thinking about what’s best for both of us." She sighed.

"You really think I need someone else? You really think I’d be with Heather after everything we’ve been through? You’re the one who’s being stupid, Y/n. I’ve been trying to make this work and you’re out here acting like it’s nothing." He sarcastically laughed.

"I don’t know what you want me to say! I can’t just throw everything away because of one stupid argument. I don’t want to hurt anyone, Johnny but I’m not ready to make things worse!"

"You think this is easy for me? You think I want to fight you every time I try to talk to you? I want to be with you, Y/n. But you’re pushing me away and I don’t know how much more I can take."

Y/n could see the hurt behind his words but she wasn’t ready to give in.

"Maybe it’s better if we just stop." she whispered.

"If that’s what you want, fine." He said bitterly.

"But don’t act like you didn’t care. Don’t act like you didn’t want this, too."

He noticed her eyes..how fucked up she looked. He almost felt sorry for being too harsh on her.

"Y/n...I don’t want to say goodbye. I don’t want to let you go. But if you really think this is the only way…"

Y/n looked down, not able to meet his gaze. She could feel her heart breaking but she knew she had to do this.

"It’s not about what you want, Johnny. It’s about what’s best for us. What’s best for both of us… and right now, that means staying away."

"You don’t get it, do you? I’ve been trying to make you see, trying to make you understand. I don’t care about the history between our families, I care about us."

Y/n’s eyes filled with tears but she held them back.

"You don’t understand either. If we keep doing this, we’re just going to hurt each other more. Our families won’t ever accept it. I don’t want to live like that."

"I don’t care if they accept it. I care about you, Y/n. I’ve always cared about you. I’m not giving up but I can’t keep fighting if you won’t fight with me."

"I don’t want to fight anymore, Johnny. I just… I just need to let go."

Johnny looked at her one last time.

"So this is it? This is the end?"

Y/n nodded slowly, tears finally spilling down her cheeks.

"I’m sorry. But yes, Johnny. This is the end."

Johnny took a step back, a bitter laugh escaping his lips.

"You’ll regret this, Y/n. You’ll regret walking away from us."

"Maybe but I can’t keep hurting everyone. I have to do this."

With one last look, Johnny turned and walked away. Y/n stood there, watching him leave.

It was over. And even though it hurt more than anything, she knew it was the right thing to do.

A/n: y/n, bitch, you have to fight.
