It had been a crazy couple of weeks since their run in with Cain, they'd seen ran into Cole once again after looking into a few deaths revolving around soldiers that he served with. Turns out it was some sort of worm that was infecting people its victims and turning them into murders, Cole was one of the infected but they were able to save him after some torture and yet another fight - not that she was supposed to admit this but seeing him in pain gave her some satisfaction, she still wasn't completely over him sticking a knife through her hand or the beating she took from him. Anyway, he lived. Their next case involved a ghost who was killing unfaithful men, Jovi couldn't blame her at all but she was possessing innocent women to do her dirty work so they sort of had to get rid of her.
Jovi woke with a start hearing her name being yelled down the corridor followed by Sam's, her dad's voice. She jumped out of bed grabbing her gun from her vanity before rushing out of her bedroom at the same time Sam came out of his also wielding his gun, they shared a understanding look before meeting in the middle at deans room. Sam kicked the door open going inside with Jovi right behind him, only they found Dean still asleep, mid nightmare. He was breathing heavily, tossing, turning and mumbling. Jovi noticed that his right arm was almost locked into place, the same arm where the mark was. She glared at it knowing that this was a result of that mark, she moved to wake him up but Sam caught her wrist shaking his head silently telling her not to. Just as she went to argue back Sam pointed at his brother, she looked over her shoulder noticing how her dad's breathing had started to even out, he visibly calmed down. She swallowed harshly thinking about how much she hated the whole situation, she stormed past her uncle heading back to her room.
โ
The next day Jovi and Sam were sat at the table in the library plotting to find a way to help Dean, Sam was just finishing up a phone call with Cas. Jovi had her arms crossed over each other her chin resting on them as she looked up at her uncle hoping this would help her dad somehow "yeah, okay, just, um โ just be there" Sam spoke into the phone lowly just as Dean entered the room with a cheerful smile "yeah, got to go" Sam hung up before looking back at Dean "hey, how did you sleep?"
Way to be subtle - Jovi thought to herself fighting off a eye roll
"Like a drunk baby" Dean responded causally sipping his coffee, his eyes found his daughters tired ones "what's up with you?" Jovi put on a fake smile "was out partying all night with my many, many boyfriends" Dean sarcastically laughed "right" Jovi didn't smile or laugh back, her blank expression made him rethink what he knew about his daughter but then he remembered she didn't have friends and she was 15 what did he have to worry about? She was already way better than he was at that age..."you're real funny" he commented expecting her to say sike but she now faked a laugh "aren't I just?"
Dean sent her a look before shrugging it off, he believed she was just trying to piss him off so he let it go plus this was a problem for his later years, definitely not now "what do we got?" Dean asked Sam looking down at the laptop "uh, nothing" Sam responded
"Really?"
"Yeah, no weird deaths, no demon signs, there's a kitsune working some truck stops outside of Boise, but Rudys on it, so..."
Both Jovi and Sam were hoping Dean took the bait so they'd have a excuse to leave the bunker "all right, so, uh, snow day" Dean said walking round the table sitting beside Jovi "I say we get drunk and shoot crap"
Jovi raised a brow "what about me?"
Dean shrugged "you can shoot crap, just don't touch the beer"
"Rich coming from Mr CBGB himself" Jovi remarked with a smirk while Dean eyed her "knew I was gonna regret you knowing that story" Jovi chuckled
"Anyway, Dean, we do that every day. Actually, Jov and I was thinking about seeing a movie" Sam told Dean with Jovi nodding along "yeah, that could be cool" Dean said sipping his coffee "it's a French movie" Sam added, Dean smirked "you mean like nudie French? Sam, she's too young for that"
Jovi rolled her eyes while Sam shook his head in annoyance "it's not that, in fact it's even better. It's about a mime that's secretly a cockroach" Dean blinked staring at his brother confused "I-I don't get it" he then looked at his daughter "you're interested in that?"
Jovi shrugged "I heard Gosling's in it" Dean rolled his eyes but now her interest made sense, if a movie or tv show didn't have someone attractive in it - Jovi declared it boring and not worth the watch. But he'd preferred her to obsess over celebrities instead of finding a boyfriend.
"Dude. The New York Times said..."
"Who cares?" Dean scoffed
"All right, well...it's playing in Wichita so we might not be back till morning" Sam said nodding to Jovi who stood up alongside him "well, I trust you both to make good choices" Dean said pulling a confused face taking another sip of his coffee, Jovi put her hands on his head "you know, we don't have to go alone. I know you'll miss me too much staying here" the blonde said dramatically trying to be over the top so Dean would want the day to himself "it's fine, besides I could use a little 'me time' haven't had that since...well I don't even remember" Dean said swatting Jovi's hands away from his head making the girl laugh "all right, stay out of my room" Sam told his brother who grinned mischievously "totally" Sam pulled a untrusting face before walking off, Jovi kissed her dads cheek "ciao!" She jogged off after her uncle leaving Dean by himself.
โ
Sam and Jovi drove to meet Cas who was already at the meeting point waiting "I can't believe I let you drag me into this, dads gonna be pissed if he find out" Jovi told her uncle as he put the car into park "it'll be fine, and if we succeed he'll thank us" Jovi sighed grabbing her door handle "that's what you think" she climbed out of the car following Sam over to Cas "thanks for coming, Cas"
"Of course, where's Dean?" Cas questioned looking between the two Winchesters "this is about Dean"
"Is heโ"
"He's getting worse" Jovi said folding her arms over her chest, frown on her face "Cas, we've gone through every other option possible, we got to talk aboutโ" Sam was cut off by Castiel's shake of the head "don't say it"
"Do you think I want this? I'm not a fan of it either"
"Neither am I" Jovi added sighing heavily "but if we want to get rid of the mark...I'm just saying Charlie's gone radio silent. Everything else we've tried has been a dead end...so..."
"So, I'll drive" Cas responded turning back towards his car, Jovi looked up at her uncle "this'll be fun".
โ
Cas had driven them to heavens gate which was at a child's playground which Jovi still couldn't wrap her head around, like why a child's playground of all things? It's so weird but anyway Cas lead them over to the sandpit which was where the gate was along with a couple other angels "that's far enough, Castiel"
"Excuse me?" Cas questioned with a head tilt, Jovi and Sam stayed a few feet behind Cas "I have orders, you aren't allowed upstairs" the angel told them "says who?" Sam said eyeing the angel, Jovi glanced up at her uncle with a raised brow "let's try not to piss off the angels, Sammy" she uttered earning a look from her uncle "hold, please" the gate opened up and the angel that was occupying that body left and another one possessed it, a small smile of recognition falling onto his face speaking softly "hello, Castiel"
"Hannah"
"I swore I'd never occupy another vessel but...we need to have this conversation face to face" Hannah responded with pain filled eyes, Jovi glanced between them with a puzzled expression. Were they like...a thing? She was getting some real mixed vibes, she nudged her uncle raising her brows suggestively. Sam tried to fight back a smile as he rolled his eyes, not quite believing his niece who was more focused on Cas' love life and not the conversation they were having - that said Jovi's priorities had never been quite been set straight. Like when they went forward in time and the only thing on her mind was not that she was dead in that timeline but that the fashion was dreadful - no colour anywhere. Was not her vibe at all, her little 9 year old self couldn't hide the grimaces as she observed everyone's clothing
"What conversation?" Cas questioned
"What do you want in heaven?" Hannah asked straightening up her... or his posture "Metatron" Cas answered his tone remaining steady and calm "why? Is this about your grace? Are you fading?"
"I'm fine for now"
"This is about my brother" Sam said taking a step forward joining the conversation "because you think Metatron might have information about the Mark of Cain?"
Jovi narrowed her eyes sassily responding "no, it was just a wild guess. Of course, the bastard knows!"
"Jovi" Sam scolded his tone low, the girl rolled her eyes "so he says, but Metatron lies" Hannah said eyes staring coldly into the teens, Sam stepped a little in front of Jovi taking the attention off of his niece "Hannah, we just want to talk with him"
"No. You want his help but we both know the only way Metatron helps you is if he's free and I can't let the scribe out of his cell, not again, he's too dangerous"
"We won'tโ"
"Yes, you will because you're desperate" Hannah cut off Castiel whose face fell into one of annoyance and betrayal "after all I've done for heaven..." more angels appeared from the trees approaching them, Jovi eyed them wearily "...after all I've done for you" there was more anger in Cas's voice now "I'm sorry" Hannah spoke before Cas snapped "you should be"
The angels came up behind Hannah almost daring the three to try something, Sam stepped up to Cas putting a hand on his shoulder "Cas, let's go" Cas glanced up at him confused as he followed Sam who brought Jovi with him "what? We're leaving?"
"Yeah, we can't fight off four angels" Sam told him peering over his shoulder at the glaring angels, Jovi grimaced at their looks sending her own dirty glare back acting as if she were back in high school judging someone she didn't like "so โ so what? You just want to give up on Metatron?" Cas quizzed, Sam subtly shook his head "no, we need him. Time for plan B, we break him out"
Jovi scoffed following her uncle "oh, say less, I'll just strap on my wings and go break the hobo looking guy out" in case you couldn't tell Jovi despised Metatron with every ounce of her being, well, she had every right to judging by everything he'd done to her and her family. Sam sent her a pointed look shaking his head gently at her sarcasm she no doubt got from his brother.
โ
The trios next stop was a physics house, someone Sam had found in town he claimed that the man might be happy to see them but when they arrived at his house there were signs on the gates that clearly read 'keep out' - it made Jovi giggle. Sam knocked on the door loudly "Mr Pryce?" They got no answer, Jovi looked up at Sam amused "so much for happy to see us, huh?" Sam sent her an annoyed look before knocking again "Oliver Pryce!" Once again no response, Cas then sighed "I'll break it down"
"Dude, dude, dude, chill" Sam quickly stopped him meanwhile Cas gave him a confused blank look "what? I'm helping"
"Yeah, let him break it down" Jovi added siding with Cas, she wanted to get this over and done with as quickly as possible "just follow my lead" Sam said exasperated with the two as he knocked again only this time the porch lights came on "Mr Pryce! This is Sam-"
The door opened revealing a older man who did not look pleased to see them at all "Winchester" he finished for them "you're Sam Winchester, Man of Letters" Jovi raised a brow, not quite expecting him to finish Sam's sentence but then she remembered he was psychic - now it made more sense
"Yeah. H-how did you uh-"
"Mind reader, remember?" Oliver said leaning forward with a 'duh' look, he turned to Jovi "you're Jovi Winchester, Sam's niece and Deans daughter - another Men of Letters legacy"
She liked to think she was more than just that but whatever if he wanted to stick to the facts she wouldn't argue. Oliver looked at Cas "and you'reโ" he looked the angel up and down "what are you?" Cas hesitated looking up at Sam as if asking what to do before he looked back at the man "I'm an angel"
Oliver shook his head, his eyes wide in shock and denial "thatโno, you can't be"
Cas blinked "why not?"
"Because I'm an atheist"
Jovi laughed "not anymore, you're not" Sam pushed her ahead of him inside the house. There was books scattered around the floor but a poster on the wall caught their attention it was a picture of a young boy that read 'The Amazing Pryce : ten year old psychic' Jovi was starting to doubt wether this man was the real deal, the Winchesters had been in the news wanted for a list full of crimes so guessing their names wasn't that impressive...maybe she was just a professional hater.
"That's you?" Castiel asked stopping in front of the poster glancing back at the old man who scoffed "was me, I don't do the psychic stuff no more. Being around people, it's kind of...hell"
"Amen to that" Jovi uttered earning a elbow to the ribs from her uncle, in return she sent him a glare
"All those brains talking all the time, drives a guy bananas"
"Because you can hear everyone's thoughts" Cas said his eyes full of sympathy "well...not yours. All I'm getting from you is...colours" Oliver looked at Sam "but the hippie over here?" Jovi snorted at the offended look that came over her uncles face "I'm seeing some creep-ass-hobbit- lookin' fella, a prison cell?"
"Accurate" Jovi shrugged thinking of Metatron making the comparison in her head "that's heavens jail" Cas told the man regaining his attention "heavens got a freakin' jail?"
"Yeah, yeah, it does. And we're looking to break someone out of it"
"Okay?"
"We have an inside man but we need your help to talk to him" Cas informed the man who's brows raised challengingly "and if I say no?" Sams jaw clenched as he looked down at the man with a deterrent expression "you're the mind reader"
After a pause the man's defying manner dropped, eyes darting between the trio before he nodded to himself "I'll get my crap"
โ
They were sat at a table that was lit with candles and had a maroon cloth over it that had a symbol in the middle of it, Jovi sat between Cas and Sam opposite Oliver "you got anything that belonged to the deceased?"
Sam grabbed his bag "yeah, right here" he opened the old leather bag taking out one of Bobbys old caps, Jovi's eyes saddened at the sight off it. She was always closer to Bobby than she'd been with John, he was her grandfather, blood or not. She loved Bobby like she loved her father or uncle and his death hurt more than she ever imagined especially knowing he wasn't coming back. That had been a rough time for her, losing Bobby, surviving purgatory for a year and then coming back and finding out her beloved cat had died as well was all too much for her
Sam carefully placed the cap on the table "good. Now shut up and hold hands" they all connected hands, Oliver starting the seance. The lights flicked and the flames danced, the table shaking and then the flames grew. Sam was given the all clear to start talking
"Bobby? Bobby, can you hear me? Bobby, we need your help"
They got through, Sam began telling Bobby the situation and what he'd missed "...and, uh, that's what's been happening โ the short version of it, anyway" he finished glancing between Cas and Jovi "you still there, Bobby?"
"Yeah, Sam. It's just, real good to hear your voice" Bobby responded some relief in his tone to hear from his surrogate son, Sam nodded with teary eyes and a small smile "yeah, you too"
"Don't forget about your favourite Winchester" Jovi spoke up sassily but her voice still wavered with emotion, her eyes watery just from hearing her grandpas voice. She was trying not to cry and keep her happy act up for Sam and Bobby but she was struggling, Bobby chuckled on the other side of the line "you too, Jov"
"Thank you" Jovi added
Bobby inhaled sharply "if, uh, I'm understanding right, you for to figure a way to get the Mark of Cain off Dean before it turns him back into a demon?"
"Pretty much, yeah"
"So, just another day at the office for you boys and Trouble, huh?" Sam chuckled while Jovi smiled fondly at the nickname he'd given her when she was little, it had been a while since she'd heard it "put Dean on the line" Jovi's smile dropped as she looked up at her uncle to answer, Sam's smile also faded as he cleared his throat "Dean's not here"
"Why not?"
"We โ Deans, um..." Sam stuttered looking over at Cas for help but the angel only looked back at him judgingly "he's not in a good place right now, Bobby"
There was a pause on the other end of the line "...so what's the play?" Bobby answered "each soul in heaven is locked in its own private paradise, that's where you are now. You need to escape, you need to find the gate to earth and open it, then you and I will find Metatron โ the scribe of god" Castiel explained
"Hey, Sam, Jov. You remember when this job was just chopping up some fang and tossing back a cold one?" Jovi and Sam both chuckled the girl speaking next "if by cold one you mean a milkshake then sure" Bobby laughed over the other end of the line "I miss that" Sam said mournfully, eyes staring down at the table with a mix of happiness and sadness in them, a frown on his lips a wave of nostalgia crashing over him. Jovi's smile fell as her shoulders slumped reminiscing over fond memories before realising that that's all they were now - memories. She was yearning for something that was once a part of her life
"Ditto" Bobby took a sharp breath "so, while I'm playing Steve McQueen anyone gonna be looking for me?"
The two Winchesters turned to Cas who responded "everyone. The angels will not like a soul wandering free"
"We got a way to slow them down?"
"Not exactly. But, I'm, you'll โ you'll figure something out, Bobby, you always do"
"I believe in you, old man" Jovi spoke with a cheeky grin awaiting the man's response "you can cut the old man, crap, ya idjit" Jovi giggled
"Listen, I appreciate the warm fuzzy. But I ain't exactly playing on the big leagues these days. I'm mostly drinking and reading classics, truth is, I'm rusty and maybe there's somebody better out there"
Jovi couldn't believe what she was hearing, Bobby was the best of the best. He had years on even her dad and Sam and in her
