Sam sent one last look his father's way before he got back into the impala while John stomped his way back to his truck leaving Dean on the road "terrific" Dean commented sarcastically.

"Son of a bitch, so they're really not afraid of the sun" Dean spoke from beside his daughter where the group of four hid amongst some bushes watching the barn they'd found and vampires that had emerged from it briefly before going back inside, Jovi entertained herself as she held her hands around her eyes in circles pretending they were binoculars helping her see better "direct sunlight hurts like a nasty sunburn. The only way to kill them is by beheading and yeah, they sleep during the day. It doesn't mean they won't wake up" John spoke from the other side of Dean, Sam slightly behind them "so I guess walking right in is not our best option" Dean said his eyes not leaving the barn "actually, that's the plan".

The Winchesters all went through their own weapons stash getting their machetes out, Dean had offered a spare to John but the man declined the offer showing them his hidden in plain sight arsenal on the back of his truck. John had caught the two young adults attention when he mentioned the Colt, he began to tell them the story about the legendary gun Samuel Colt made and the bullets that could kill anything.

"They say — they say this gun can kill anything"

"Kill anything, like supernatural anything?" Dean questioned his father picking Jovi up putting her on his hip
"Like the demon?" Sam said his hope filled eyes locked on his father, John nodded "yeah, the demon. Ever since I picked up its trail I've been looking for a new way to destroy that thing. Find the gun, we may have it"

Jovi had been left in the impala while John, Sam and Dean all went into the barn. She boredly rested her chin on her arms as she watched out the window at the eerie forest, she could briefly see the barn from where the impala was parked but there was still plenty of trees and bushes hiding Baby and johns truck. Jovi breathed out heavily, she didn't want to be left behind all the time. She knows her dad does it to protect her but it got lonely after a while but at least it wasn't dark, she hates the dark - mainly because she knows what hides amongst it. It wasn't long before she caught sight of her dad and uncle running through the tree line making her perk up a little, Dean spotted his daughter still where he left her bringing him some relief but when he turned he saw his father wasn't behind him "dad!" He yelled out into the trees of the forest

"Dad!"

Then Johns figure emerged from the trees, the two turned on their heels ready to run but John stopped them "they won't follow. They'll wait until tonight. Once a vampire gets your scent, it's for life"

Dean spared a sympathetic glance at his daughter who's little face looked confused as she looked between them all, he didn't want to have to keep her on the move for the rest of her life she deserved better than that "what the hell do we do now?" Sam questioned but John just looked at them "you got to find the nearest funeral home, that's what".

Jovi watched from the trees as her dad leant over the hood of Baby, she stood beside her Uncle Sam nervously gripping the tree that was hiding them. The female vampire approached him sharing words before she hit him making Dean stumble, Jovi gasped earning a harsh shush from John which made her shrink into herself. Sam put a reassuring hand on her shoulder silently comforting her, he hated how John had been treating Jovi. She was a kid! And he was acting like she was the biggest burden in their lives, Sam found it hard to keep his cool, he could even see Dean struggling to bite his tongue when John took jabs at his daughter. Another vampire stepped out from beside the car as the female grabbed Dean's face in her hand before holding him up. They shared a few more words before she kissed him which caused the youngest member of the group to grimace, when she pulled away a arrow flew into both the vamps chests, the male going down quickly "Damn it" the female vampire spoke before she spotted John and Sam approaching from the tree line, Sam holding Jovi's hand bringing her with them "it barely even stings"

"Give it time, sweetheart. Arrow soaked in dead man's blood" John said before he came to a stop in front of the female vampire "it's like poison to you, isn't it?" Just as he said that the girls eyes rolled into the back of her head as she collapsed into deans arms "load her up, I'll take care of this one" John said as he looked at where the decapitated vampire laid.

After they'd dealt with the body they went into the woods building a fire, john had gone to his open arsenal getting a small bag out handing it to Dean "toss this on the fire, it'll help block our scent and hers until we're ready" Dean done as told instantly coughing at the smell that erupted from it, Jovi gagged covering her nose "that stinks!" She said looking up at her dad who agreed with her "yeah this stuff stinks"

"That's the idea, dust your clothes with the ashes and stand a chance at not being detected" John told them, Jovi picked up a random stick holding it into the fire letting it catch alight. She then held it up for Dean to see a big mischievous grin on her face, Dean then pulled the same expression doing the same thing

"You sure they'll come after her?" Sam asked John neither of them noticing the father and daughter finding random things to set alight "vampires mate for life, she means more to the leader than the gun but the blood sickness is going to wear off soon so you don't have a lot of time"

Dean watched as Jovi burnt a piece of a leaf with an amused smile, the girl was completely mesmerised by the flames. He wasn't sure whether he should be slightly concerned for her newfound love for fire or just find it adorable...probably the first one. He turned to his father who was still talking

"Half hour ought to do it" Sam said in response to John "and then I want you out of the area as fast as you can"

"But dad, you can't take care of them all yourself" Dean told him his brows furrowed in concern "I'll have her and the colt" John responded gesturing to the female vampire they currently had tied to a tree "but after we're going to meet up, right? Use the gun together, right?" Sam asked lowly, John looked away which gave Sam his answer "you're leaving again, aren't you?" John didn't respond, Sam shook his head in disbelief "you still want to go after the demon alone" John finally met Sam's eyes "you know, I don't get you. You can't treat us like this"

"Like what?"

"like children"

"You are my children, Jovi's a child. I'm trying to keep you safe" John told the two brothers "dad, all due respect, but it's a bunch of crap" Dean spoke with annoyance and frustration in his voice, John tilted his head staring at Dean sternly "excuse me?"

Even Jovi stopped setting things on fire to look at her father in disbelief, it wasn't often Dean snapped back at John "You know what, Sammy, Jov and I've been hunting. Hell, you sent us on a few hunting trips yourself. You can't be that worried about keeping us safe"

"That's not the same thing, Dean"

"Then what is it? Why do you want us out of the big fight?"

"This demon is a bad son of a bitch. I can't make the same moves if I'm worried about keeping you alive" John told them, Dean narrowed his eyes "you mean, you can't be as reckless"

"Look, I don't expect to make it out of this fight in one piece. Your mothers death, it almost killed me" John paused "I can't watch my children and granddaughter die too, I won't" Dean glanced over at his daughter who gone back to burning things before he sighed looking back at his father "what happens if you die? Dad, what happens if you die and we could have done something about it? You know I've been thinking...I think maybe Sammy's right about this one, I think we should do this together. Were stronger as a family dad, we just are, you know it"

Johns face lost all emotion "We're running out of time, you do your job and you get out of the area. That's an order" John told them before he moved going back to his truck when he caught sight of Jovi burning a leaf with the stick she had on fire, the girl was still holding the leaf watching the flame get closer to her fingers "Jovi, what are you doing? Put it down" he yelled at the child making her jump and drop the leaf into the fire, her eyes glossing over in shock "don't yell at her, it's my fault all right?" Dean snapped with a glare "you should be keeping a better eye on her before she hurts herself again" and with that John walked away leaving Dean to go and reassure his daughter that it was okay.

Now back at the barn Sam and Dean had successfully gotten inside undetected once again leaving Jovi in the car. The rest of the vamps had cleared out, one vamp was left to look after the place but he bumped into Dean who swiftly cut off his head. They released the remaining hostages before they rushed back to the car going after John

This lead them to now where they watched John get knocked out by the girl they'd kidnapped, Jovi having once again been left in the car much to her dismay. Sam fired an arrow through one of the other girl vampires chests before the brothers ran out of their hiding spots. Dean shot another arrow at a vamp while Sam sliced another head off, Sam was caught off guard which lead him to be put in a choke hold by the main vamp. Dean held his machete as they watched the vampire carefully "I'll break his neck, put the blade down"

Dean shared a look with Sam before  he slowly dropped his blade to the ground "you people, why can't you just leave us alone? We have as much right to live as you do" the vamp said not noticing the man creeping up behind him

"I don't think so" John held the colt in his hand pointing it at the vamps head before letting off the shot, they watched as the bullet lodged itself in the vamps forehead. Sam was quickly pulled into Dean arms, the bullet wound sizzled and burned before a bright light emerged from the wound making the vamp fall to the ground

"Luther!" The female vamp screeched her remaining friend caught her "Kate, don't!" She dragged Kate over to their car before climbing inside driving away.

At the motel they all packed their bags, Jovi sat on the bed watching as Dean filled the duffle up. John stood in the doorway watching the three before he spoke up "so boys" the three turned as John approached them, Jovi didn't move from her spot she just watched him with soft eyes "yes, sir" the Winchester boys answered

"You ignored a direct order back there"

"Yes, sir" Sam responded quickly but Dean didn't copy Sam's response for once "yeah, but we saved your ass" Sam side eyed Dean who just stared at their father with a serious look, even Jovi was once again surprised by her dad backchatting John "you're right" John spoke which made Sam raise a brow along with Dean "I am?"

"It scares the hell out of me. You three are all I've got" John said in a calm voice which actually made the child uncomfortable, she'd rarely ever seen John calm and this all felt way too out of character for him. John sighed "well, I guess we are stronger as a family. So we go after this damn thing together"

"Yes, sir" Sam and Dean answered at the same time.
