trevor was tossing and turning all around in his bed, not being able to sleep for whatever reason. as much as he tried to close his eyes and feel that feeling where you know you're just about to drift off into a deep sleep, so you calm down and in just mere moments, you're out, he couldn't.
he soon gave up, groaning as he flipped his blanket off himself, getting out of his bed... the bed he was sleeping in was surprisingly very comfortable, so he didn't know why he couldn't sleep.
as he walked into the kitchen, he scratched the side of his head, stopping in the middle of his steps as he saw brooke who just closed the fridge after taking a carton of orange juice out.
her eyes met his, they both awkwardly staring at each other as she did.
"hey." brooke broke the silence, can't taking it anymore.
"why are you awake?" trevor asked, getting to the point.
"couldn't sleep." she replied.
"you too?" trevor scoffed, walking closer to the counter, crossing his arms.
brooke drank what was last of the juice, placing it on the counter with it's cap when she was done.
"gotta go grocery shopping soon..." she said, leaning over the counter. "egon's gone, so i can't be irresponsible anymore."
"you have us." trevor said, referring to himself and his family.
brooke giggled. "i guess."
"it just... feels weird, y'know? that whole chapter of my life with egon is... over." she scoffed. "i have to start a new chapter... with you, and... phoebe, your mom... becoming a 3rd year in highschool... it's killing me."
trevor gulped. "hey, um... w-well, i don't think i can make this chapter of your life better than the chapter where you had my grandfather, but... i want you to know that you can talk to me."
"thanks, trevor... i kinda need someone to talk to anyway."
"did you not have anyone before? lucky's your friend."
"well, she's too busy with her other friends... the one's who by society are better, more amusing and less crazy."
"brutal."
"yep." brooke agreed. "brutal."

brooke, trevor, phoebe, podcast, and lucky go to spinners, still broken from yesterday, and brooke still mad at lucky, open a map of summerville to investigate more.
"okay, so, what exactly is happening with the map?" trevor asked.
"see the concentric circles around the mountain?" his sister replied.
"no." he answered back.
"do you see the circles?" phoebe asked again.
"yes."
"somethings happening inside that old mine." phoebe said.
"yeah, because if there was nothing happening then some random beam of light wouldn't have come out of it." brooke said sarcastically, annoyed now that they're involved with all this.
"but what exactly is a 'gozer?'" lucky asked her friends.
"gozer was a sumerian god that walked amongst the living." phoebe started to talk until brooke started as well.
"gozer was worshiped as a god by the hittites, an indo-european ancient empire, mesopotamians, people who are, what it says, mesopotamian, and the sumerians, sumer, a place in mesopotamia around 6000 BC. gozer was a genderless being that could consume the form of absolutely anything." brooke explained specifically. "gozer had two assistant minion creatures that were worshiped as demigods, that were harbingers of destruction and primary agents for its arrival. vinz clortho, the keymaster and zuul the gatekeeper." brooke recited perfectly. (but i didn't)
phoebe looked at her, not surprised but proud.
"cryptozoology is another passion of mine." brooke said breaking the silence.
"you never spoke like that before." lucky said to her, giggled as she was proud of her friend.
"well, im sorry you never brought up the topic of a deadly genderless god and their stupid-faced minions." brooke argued with her.
"basically a soul-eating, flame-dripping deity of evil." podcast shortened her explantion. not as specific. "and I think it wants back."
"you think?" brooke asked, obvious sarcasm.
"here?" lucky shifted her head from phoebe and podcast to brooke and trevor.
"i know. i would've picked orlando." podcast responded, seriously.
brooke rolled her eyes, still annoyed by what they have to deal with.
"what does the name ivo shandor mean to you guys?" phoebe asked them. specifically brooke and lucky since they've lived here almost all their lives.
"ivo shandor? he built this whole town." lucky answered. "he built the mine, foundry, the school, library. his name is on everything."
"thats tacky." trevor said. and brooke could agree.
"in new york, he created an apartment building made out of selenium girders, mined from right here." phoebe continued. "on that same rooftop is where our grandfather fought to keep a horde of ghosts from entering our dimension."
"phoebe," trevor started, "what exactly is happening here?"
"ghosts obviously." brooke answered him before his sister could. "what else would it be?"
the group go back up the mountain and use the mining elevator cage to go down. no sounds aside from the creaking elevator.
"so, what do a cigarette and hamster have in common?" phoebe tried telling a joke to break the silence.
"what?" lucky answered her since no one else would.
"they're both harmless until you stick one in your mouth and light it on fire."
podcast and brooke snorted. they thought it was funny. lucky turned her head and laughed a little as well.
"the worst time." trevor said, even more annoyed now.
"what? its a good joke." brooke giggled.
~
they all turn on their flashlights as they reach the bottom of the mine. it was dark, creepy, and dirty.
"hey guys, look." trevor alarmed them, looking down from the cage and pointing his flashlight down.
"don't put your ass in my face." brooke grunted, annoyed as well.
"sorry." trevor mumbled.
they're arriving down at the mine and the first thing they see is a big statue of gozer. brooke was scared, but excited. she immediately opened the cage and looked around.
"is that her?" trevor asked. "is that gozer?"
"gozer isn't he or she." phoebe responded.
"genderless, remember?" brooke said taking his shoulder and pulling him behind her while walking forward to explore. she was fascinated.
"pretty woke for 3000 BC." lucky pointed her flashlight up at the statue.
"everyone watch their steps." trevor told them, his voice echoing through the cave.
"ill do my best." brooke panted while smiling.
phoebe found some big hole in the middle of the mine and pointed her flashlight to it.
"another hole?" she complained, but she knew it was probably important.
everyone then went to it and looked down.
"i wonder where this one leads to." trevor said
"death." brooke joked, also kinda serious because... it's most likely true. death indeed.
"a sacrificial death pit." podcast said quietly and excited.
"what were they sacrificing?" phoebe asked a little scared.
"virgins, probably." lucky said to her "tough luck for you guys. sorry." lucky said to both brooke and trevor.
"well, statistically, most 15-year-olds are virgins." phoebe answered her. "don't really think trevor's ever gonna go to a high school party by 17."
"shh!" trevor sushed phoebe.
"fifteen? you're 15?" phoebe asked trevor. she knew brooke was 15 because they've known each other for a long time, but trevor said on his application he was 17.
"i'll be 16 in february." trevor tried to quickly save himself.
"its june." lucky and brooke said together. lucky sounded shocked and brooke sounded irritated. now because of this brooke think he lied so lucky would like him.
" *what the hell...* " brooke thought to herself. shes never felt a feeling like that before. was it jealousy, she thought.
"what are those holes in the wall!?" trevor yelled to break the silence and change the topic.
"they're vacancies." phoebe answered her brother.
"if this is a tomb, where are all the bodies?" lucky asked.
brooke pointed her flashlight around, looking for said bodies that lucky wondered and fortunately saw podcast at a coffin.
"found one!" podcast shouted with the flashlight still in his eye.
"sorry." brooke apologized, shifting the light from his face and walking over to the coffin.
they all walked over and flashed their flashlights at the body.
"is he sleeping?" trevor asked.
"dude. hes in a coffin." lucky said to him, annoyed he lied about his age.
"it's ivo shandor. he's been in here for 75 years?" podcast said flashing his light over where his name is carved.
"he looks fantastic." lucky randomly commented.
"you know when you die, your fingernails keep growing." podcast said random too.
" *and hes at it again.* " brooke thought, rolling her eyes due to her annoyance towards podcast... she gets that that's just him, but everyone's different, right?63
"not true. your skin just shrinks." lucky corrected him.
"shrink as in actually shrink or lose weight?" brooke asked.
"both." phoebe answered before lucky could.
"shouldn't you know? you're the scientist." trevor asked.
"well, i dont study what happens to people after they die. i like ghosts and jupiter, not that bullshit." brooke said turning to him before walked over back to the pit.
"lovers quarrel." lucky mumbled to trevor, immediately catching his attention as she tried to tease them. "i sensed sexual tension the moment i saw you guys together."
trevor furrowed his eyebrows. "se-sexual? i don't think that's the right word." he forced a chuckle.
"ooh, by the way, if you ever end up with her ass on your face, tell me all about it."
"absolutely not..." trevor mumbled in disgust, his face flushed red though... maybe he'd like that.
"take a look at this." phoebe yelled at them. she found numbers on the walls.
"1883." she read a year written on the wall loudly.
"the krakatoa eruption. the most violent volcanic activity in human history." podcast said immediately after hearing phoebe.
"what happened in 1908?" trevor asked, already caught on
"probably the tunguska blast over siberia." podcast said to him.
"im surprised you know all these stuff." lucky said to podcast.
"1945." lucky read it. "what didn't happen?"
"happiness, world peace, high school musical, me..." brooke listed things that aren't technically incorrect to lucky's question.
"1984." phoebe skipped over to 1984. "ghosts attack new york city."
"the manhattan crossrip." podcast under his breath gasped as he realized.
phoebe flashed her flashlight to the next number and saw... 2021.
"its a countdown." phoebe yelled.
"like a prophecy?" podcast slightly stepped himself back.
"do you guys hear that?" trevor asked his friends after he heard rumbling.
phoebe look over to the death pit and saw brooke looking down at it. trevor turned his head to yell at her.
"brooke, dont go there!" he screamed, but didn't listen.
"i think its coming from the death pit." lucky theorized.
"brooke." phoebe called out her name, slowly walking to her from behind. but the teenager didn't listen to her.
"stay away from there." she told her, but brooke still didn't listen.
"guys." trevor said looking at phoebe and brooke concerned.
a bunch of laser started to fire and connect together in the death pit.
"GUYS!" trevor shouted louder at them. but they didn't listen.
"the earthquakes." phoebe stopped walking as she realized that it wasn't just an earthquake. it was the death pit.
podcast stood right in front of the coffin they previously were examining just earlier, to see shandor creepily spin his head over to him
"OH MY GOSH!" podcast cried as shandor turned his head to him.
"GUYS!" trevor continued tried to get his sister and friend back just by yelling, as he was too scared himself to go close.
brooke was tempted to touch it, and almost did.
she reached out her hand almost touching it until trevor and lucky came in and pushed both she and phoebe to the side.
they both finally snap out of it. trevor was covering brooke with his skinny pale arm while both of them were on the floor.
soon, the machines shut off and shandor went back to sleep.
"YOU GUYS COULD'VE DIED!" trevor shouted sitting down and hugging brooke tightly. she smiled a little while hugging him back, happy that trevor cared so much about them.
"i think hes alive!" podcast panted, running towards his friends.
"no shit." brooke sarcastically remarked, standing up and rolling her eyes at the young, naive boy.
phoebe walked over to see what machines those were that just fired into the pit.
"pheebs, whats wrong?" trevor turned to his sister.
"he was right all along."
"what do you mean?" lucky panted.
"our grandfather. he was right here, he built this." phoebe's voice shook. "he was standing guard, even when no one believed him."
"he sacrificed everything... his life, his friends, and... us." she sympathetically looked over at brooke.
everyone else started to turn over to brooke as well. she started to feel anxious, and began to have tears in her eyes. she slowly sat down on the dirty floor tucking her head in her knees. lucky went over to her to comfort her. trevor looked down at the two girls hugging each other, kneeling down and wanting to join in but it would've felt awkward to him, he thought. so he just simply comforting patted her back.
"bummer." podcast audibly mumbled oh-so casually, despite finding out just now that he's a sacrifice.
trevor, lucky, and brooke looked at podcast, all looking offended and brooke still sobbing.
"dude." trevor murmured, helping brooke stand up, hugging her as well.
"we need to tell mom." phoebe warned them.
"this is a good thing, lucky and podcast don't know egon so them seeing ghosts can't just be something we made them see, so they've gotta believe us, i mean, it's so obvious these stupid ghosts are real at this point-...." brooke rambled after letting go of the hug with trevor, sniffling, but trevkr tried to pull her back in to comfort her because she was clearly not ok.
th group looked at her, not confused, scared, or weirded out, they just felt bad for her. they never so many things could make just one person so anxious. family, strangers, their own friends... who knew.

around the house at home, callie walked around, looking for her daughter whom she previously just had a fight with the night before.
"phoebe?" she called out.
"pheebs?" she said walking into her room.
she saw the p.k.e meter on the table and grabbed it. then it soon detected a ghost. she moved it around to find it. she went into a shed with a pole and went down it. as she landed in the room, she put down the meter and looked around. then the light turned on itself. she walked over to it bravely and found a picture frame. as she was looking at it, the light moved closer to her.
the light pointed at a board with a bunch of picture of... callie.
she was happy to see he kept all of that. until something interrupted the moment.
