"You for real? Is she okay?" Sapphire asks as I throw some clothes into my bag. "Yeah she inna hospital. You coming wimme?" I ask and she nods.

"Of course. I'll go home right quick and-" she starts but I pull her onto the bed with me. "What if my mom dead Sapph" I wonder and her hand brushes through my hair.

"Don't think about that Jah. Please stay positive" she encourages and I nod. "You gotta tell Des" she shakes her head, kissing my temple.

"I will. She gon wanna come" I sigh. "Let her. You don't have to go through everything alone, Jah" Sapphire says, caressing my face.

"Ight" I mumble and get up so I can pack. "What time are we going to leave?" she asks. "I don't know. Look sum flights up" I say and go back to packing.

An hour later, I'm done packing. "Okay Dad. I don't know when I'm coming back but I have to go. Okay. Love you too" I hear Sapph talking to her dad.

"Destiny's bringing Saed" she tells me and I suck in through my teeth.

"What? You'n like Saed?" she asks, looking back at me. "Nah I do. Is just gon be awkward like das my sister" I shrug.

"Oh. I'mma get in the shower" she takes off my shirt that she had on. "Shiii. Lemme come witchu" I get up, heading towards the bathroom but Sapphire slams the door behind her.

"Jah?" Destiny asks from the other side of the door. "Come in here" I open the door and she has Nile on her hip.

"Wassup?" I ask, reaching for the baby. "Are you okay? Sapphire told me what happened" she frowns, handing Nile to me.

"I'a be ight. Are you good?" I ask back and she nods. "I just wish the first time I'm seeing her for a year was a different occasion. I'm bringing Saed with me" she tells me and I nod.

"What, so y'all like together now?" I ask, twisting my dreads around my finger. "Mmm. I don't know" she shrugs and I give her a confused look.

"Y'all females sumn else" I shake my head and Nile laughs. "Well the flight leaves tonight so I'mma go pack. Much love" she waves. Me and Nile wave back.

We get to the airport at 12, having five more people with us.

After Sapphire told Teyanna, she wanted to come with Kadeem and Diamonté brought Jade.

"This nigga coming too?" I ask, motioning towards Reece who was walking towards us.

"Just don't talk to him" Sapphire shrugs, holding onto my arm.

"Wassup y'all" Reece nods. "Hey Reece" Sapphire waves. "Whaddup Sapphire" he looks at her up and down and licks his lips.

Me and Kooda look at each other with a surprised look before busting out laughing. "That nigga special" he mumbles, laughing with me.

"Different type" I mumble back. "Y'all are rude" Sapphire says but she was laughing too.

Four hours later we land at JFK.

"C'mon baby we gotta talk to Khalil" I say, holding Sapphire's hand. "Mmn. It's five inna morning Jah" she groans. "You wanna go to the hotel first?" I ask and she nods.

We get back to the hotel and everyone goes into the second room I got. I go into the first one, sitting on the bed and rolling up.

Thirty minutes later, someone knocks on my door. "It's Sapphire?" I yell. "Yes. I miss you. Open the door" she says from the other side.

I get up to open the door and once I do she hops on me. "Guhh. Whatchu want" I laugh, closing the door and holding her up. "To hangout. I miss you" she whines.

"You have separation issues" I shake my head and she nods. "Only from you though. Can we watch a movie?" Sapphire asks. "Mhm" I sit down on the bed, placing her on my lap.

"Aye c'mere" I pull her towards me and connect our lips, kissing her slowly. "Are you coming with me when I go see Khalil?" I ask, laying back.

"Do you want me to?" she asks back, scooting up my lap. "Yeah. I'on think you met him" I say, looking down at her.

"Hey are you okay" she asks, playing with my earring back.

"It look like I'm okay?" I ask back, looking at her. She shakes her head. "Where everyone else at" I ask.

"Sleep. Jade and Monté real cute" she gets under the blankets and smiles at me, making me smile back.

"You so beautiful, Sapphire" I pull her closer to me. "Thank you baby" she pecks my lips and I smile again, shaking my head.

She falls asleep and I just stare at her a while, analyzing her face. This my wife 100%.

I end up zoning out, snapping out of it when Sapphire gets out of bed. "Where you going?" I ask, sitting up.

"Ain't you going to see your mom? It's 8am now" she informs me and I nod. "Ight. I'll see you later. Where you'll be at?" I ask.

"Mm. I don't know yet but I'll text you" she shrugs and walks out the door.

An hour later, me and Destiny show up at the hospital. No one else in our family was there. "Hi, we're here to see Yolanda Micheals" Destiny says to the receptionist.

"Great. She just woke up. Room 405" she smiles at me. "Are you ready to see her?" Des asks, getting in the elevator with me.

"It don't even matter. I'an gotta choice no more" I shrug.

We get to the room and I see a doctor exiting. "Is she okay?" I ask. "Yes she's fine. She'll be discharged in the morning. Are you... Jamal Micheals?" he asks and I shake my head.

"I'm his son. Do y'all need him to come up here? He lives in Atlanta" I inform and he shakes his head. "No, that's just her emergency contact. Have a nice day" he walks away and I take a deep breath, opening the door.

She was laying on the bed, eating Jell-O. "Jahbari? Destiny?" she gets up and runs towards us, hugging me tightly.

"Hi Ma" I hug her back, not caring about all the past shit that happened. I just wanted my mom back. "Destiny, you look so good" she smiles and hugs her.

"I missed you so much" Destiny says, hugging her back. "I missed you too- both of you. I'm so glad my babies are back" she smiles again.

"Jah you're getting so big. Who did your hair?" she asks, shaking it around. "My girl" I respond and my mom raises her eyebrows.

"Wow. Jah with a girlfriend. Never thought the day would come" she laughs, sitting back on the bed. "Yeah. They been dating for a while now" Destiny nods.

"Des, you got a nigga?" she asks and Des sucks on through her teeth. "Exposed" I laugh and she slaps my arm.

"It's... complicated" Des says, rubbing the back of her neck. "Mhm. That always means-" my mom starts to respond but someone starts calling me.

"Who is it?" Des asks.

Li Bit 💕😩 wants to FaceTime

"Sapphire" I respond and answer the call. "Hiii Jah" she says when the call connects.

"I'm with my mom right now wassup" I ask. "Oh. Hi Ms. Westlock" she yells.

"Who is that?" my mom asks and I hand her my phone. "Hi baby. Is this the girl?" she asks me, looking down at the phone. "I would hope so" Sapphire laughs and my mom laughs back.

"She's funny. Baby, what's your name" she asks. "Sapphire. What can I call you?" Sapphire asks back. "You can call me Yolanda. It don't matter" she shrugs.

"Okay Yolanda, are you feeling okay?" Sapph asks and they start talking for a couple minutes.

"Okay well visitation is about to end. We can get dinner tommorow" my mom hands me the phone back and Sapphire smiles at me.

I smile back, shaking my head and looking to the side. "That boy in love" my mom exclaims and Sapphire laughs.

"I'll see you in a second Sapph. I luh you" I say, playing with my dreads. "Mhm. I love you too" and she kisses the phone.

"I'm not doin that sh- stuff back. Nah... nah" I shake my head. "Oh really" she raises her eyebrow and I roll my eyes, kissing the phone.

"Byeee Jah" she hangs up and I shake my head again. "You are whipped" Destiny and my mom say at the same time.

"Y'all can shut up" I laugh, putting my phone in my pocket. "Bye Ma. Much love" I hug her and leave the room.

*the next day*

Jah and Destiny had just left to go pick Yolanda up and I was sitting on the bed, staring at the ceiling.

"Aye" Saed says, opening the door. "How'd you get in here?" I ask, seeing Reece walk in behind him and close the door. "Shit was open. But look, how Des feelin' bout me" he asks.

"That is not any of my business Saed" I shake my head. "Okay, but you can't tell me if the girl like me or not?" he sits down on the bed and Reece sits on the desk chair.

"She does like you. That's all I'm sayin. Byeee" I say shooing both of them out of the room.

"You'n wanna smoke?" Saed asks, taking a blunt out from his pocket. "You never said nun bout that" I say, holding my hand out.

"Agt. We can share" he says and I scrunch my face up. "Uh uhn. I'on know where yo lips been. Gimme it" I say and he rolls his eyes, tossing it to me.

"Reece why you mute for" I ask, lighting it and taking my first pull. "I'an mute. It's just nun to talk about witchu" he shrugs.

"Umm. Okay?" I question to his response but choose to let it go. The door starts to open with the key and I furrow my eyebrows.

"Who dat is?" I ask. "Baby whatchu doin" Jah asks, coming in with a bag of food. "Nothin. You got me food?" I ask, putting out my blunt.

"Mhm. C'mon come meet my mom" he says, still in the front part of the room and not noticing Saed and Reece.

"Why these niggas in here" he says when he turns around. "Like I know" I shrug and Jah stares at Reece for a second.

"Y'all can go" he says and Saed nods, walking out the door. "I'a see you later Sapphire. Text me" Reece says, leaving with Saed.

"That nigga is weird as hell. C'mon" Jah says, holding out his hand. I take it and follow him down the hallway, going into a room near the end.

"Mom, this is Sapphire" he says and I see his mom on the bed, folding clothes with Destiny. "Hi baby. It's so nice to meet you finally" she pulls me into a hug and I hug her back.

"You too. Are you feeling okay?" I ask and she nods. Jah comes into the room again with Nile on his hip.

"Woah, a grandbaby?" Yolanda's eyes widen and I shake my head. "No, this is my brother Nile. Say hi" I say and wave to him. He waves back and Yolanda smiles.

"Can I hold him" she asks and I nod my head. Jah hands Nile to her and she starts rocking him.

We end up going outside together and getting dinner before coming back to the hotel when it got late.

"You tired?" Sapphire asks me and I shake my head, not wanting to go to sleep. I couldn't control my thoughts when I was asleep.

"You didn't sleep last night either. Wassup?" she asks. "Nun" I shrug, sitting on the bed. "Why you not sleepin though? Are they that bad?" she asks another question.

My nightmares had came back a couple weeks ago, worse than all the ones I've ever had. "Yeah" I nod and she frowns.

"Well can you at least try to lay down wimme?" she asks and I get on the bed with her. I slip into sleep quickly, and my nightmares start.

*six months ago*

"I'm not ratting out my people. Matta fact I'on know nun y'all niggas talm bout" I wave my hand, dismissing the detective who was questioning me.

"So you don't know who or where Kenzo McCoy is?" he asks me. "I neva said that. I know him we went to school together. I'on know why you asking about him tho" I lie, leaning back in the chair.

"Jahbari, if you cooperate with us you can get out on house arrest next week instead of in four months. Accessory is no joke" he says and I shrug.

"Y'all say I did the crime so I'mma do the time. Can I go now?" I ask. "We'll get your sentence extended if you do not cooperate" he says.

"Lemme see that happen and then we'll talk. Can I go?" I ask again and he nods.

I get up, walking back to my cell. "Aye, what that nigga was tryna say ta you?" Javion, my cell mate asks.

"Nun. Wanted me ta snitch" I shrug, hopping up on my bunk. "Did you?" he asks. "I look like the typa nigga to switch up? Hell naw" I shrug.

The next day, I'm out in the yard and I see the well known gang staring hard as fuck at me. "Why they lookin this way for" I ask Javion.

"Shit, like I know" he shrugs, lifting weights. "How are they even still in here? Ain't the age cut off eighteen?" I ask and he nods. "They are eighteen. Ish" he shrugs again.

At lunch, they finally approach me. "Yeo" I nod, looking up at the six big ass niggas in front of me. "Yo. You Hammer's boy?" the middle one asks.

"Who's asking" I ask, standing up. "Who it look like" he responds and punches me in the face.

I swing back, hitting him back in the face but all the rest of them insert themselves in the fight.

I wake up in the infirmary with tubes going into my arms and nose. "Mane what da fuck" I rip them out of me and get up, clutching my abdomen.

I approach the start of the hallway and peek over, seeing two people talking.

"You did what I said?" the same detective who questioned me asks the gang leader. "Yeah. You take care of my family?" he asks.

"Yeah" the detective says and walks away. I start walking towards the one who jumped me. "Aye man. Nun personal" he shrugs and I sigh, disregarding it and walking back to my cell.

It's not worth getting more time onto my sentence.

"Aye, you good?" Javion asks once I enter the cell. "I'm chillin" I try to hop up on my bunk but fall.

"You can take mines" he says and I nod, laying down on the bottom bunk.

"What day is it?" I ask, covering my eyes with my arm. "Friday" he says and hops on my bunk.

"Fuck" I mumble under my breath, knowing that Sapphire visits me every other weekend.

The next day, my limp is gone but my black eye isn't. Jermaine, Destiny, and Sapphire all come to see me and Sapphire notices my eye almost immediately.

"Tell me what happened" she says once Des and her dad leave. "Mind your business" I snap at her and her face freezes.

"Shit, maybe I will" she pushes me away from her and walks out the door.

*end of flashback*

I wake up, gasping in cold sweats with Sapphire's arm around me. "Hm? You okay?" she mumbles, half asleep.

"Yeah. Go back to sleep" I say and wait until her breathing is back slow to slip out of bed. I look over to Nile who's also asleep and kiss his forehead before putting my shoes on and walking out the door.
