a/n - please vooooote!
hearing light sniffles, i flutter open my eyes tiredly, seeing olivia sit on the chair beside me. my left hand was warm, and i look down, seeing my hand covered over someone else's. i look up, seeing olivia looking at me. "liv?" i whisper, feeling a hit of relief. "y/n, it's okay. i'm here," she says, leaning forward to hear me better. "liv," i repeat. "i'm here, talk to me," she says, shaking her head. "it hurts so much," i exhale, bringing my right hand to my aching chest.
more tears fall down olivia's face as she squeezes my hand. "30 percent chance to live is really low, olivia," i admit, avoiding eye contact, "what if i don't make it after surgery?" olivia shakes her head squeezing my hand tighter. "don't say that, y/n." "no, but it is low, olivia. "don't worry, you'll be okay y/n, i promise," she says softly. "you can't promise that, olivia, my whole life depends on this surgery," i say, keeping eye contact as she presses her lips together, trying not to cry more. "they're doctors, they'll take care of you." we wait for her breathing to slow down, tears falling down slower. "i read the letter you wrote for me. before you came here." "oh." is all i manage to say, looking down. "i love you." she says, smiling just barely. i shake my head, tears forming in my eyes now. "you don't have to say that out of sympathy just because i've got a thirty percent chance of living," i say, my head looking at the door as multiple doctors come in. we stop talking as they walk over to us and start to unlock the pedals that kept the bed stable. "time for your surgery, y/n." "y/n i-" olivia starts. "save it for after the surgery, olivia," i give a sad smile, looking away.
olivia's pov
after a long 2 and a half hours of waiting for y/n and multiple calls from concerned conan, gracie and madison, they finally brought y/n back. exhausted harry, timothee and madelyn went home an hour ago as i offered to stay for however long y/n needed, promising that i'd text them the results and that they'd be back in the morning. they put y/n's bed where it was, and i stand up. "is she okay now?" i ask. "she's okay. the surgery went well." "so she's not gonna die? she'll be okay?" i ask, determined to know the result. "yes, she's okay. the surgery went successfully. we just need to run some more tests for a few more days, then she can go home." i close my eyes, letting out the breathe i realise i was holding in. "thank you so much," i say, giving them a smile.
after falling asleep on the chair, leaned over and resting my head on y/n's bed, i wake up as y/n groans. "livie," she groans quietly. i shoot up, looking at her. "oh my god!" i exclaim, standing up and reaching over and giving her the biggest hug possible. "ouch, ouch, liv." i let go quickly as she winces, totally forgotten she had surgery. "i'm so sorry," i apologize, sitting back down. "am i in heaven?" she jokes, and i roll my eyes. "don't say that, you're here. you're here with me," i say, smiling.
"i don't know... i guess it was from stress," she explains. "from me?" i ask. "just life in general." i nod, unable to stop imagining to the different outcome this could've had. "what're you thinking about, liv?" i look up from the bed. "you." "what about me?" "the different ways this could've ended..." i trail off, "what if the surgery didn't go well? what if madelyn didn't call me? i wouldn't be able to forgive myself for not checking up on you sooner," i say, sighing as y/n reaches over and puts her hand over mine with all her energy. "don't think about it, i'm here now." "but i can't stop thinking about it. what if you died, y/n?" "well i didn't, liv. it's okay, just calm down." "you would've been gone, and i didn't even get to tell you how much you mean to me," i mumble.
we look at the door as conan, madison and gracie come running in loudly. "oh my god!" conan exclaims, out of breath. "hey guys," y/n says, smiling. "you're okay!" gracie says. everyone taking turns to give y/n light hugs. "you weren't answering your phone liv, we got so worried," madison says. i pick up my phone, realising it was dead. "yeah, we had to convince the receptionists at the front that we weren't some crazy fans to see y/n," conan says, before everyone ends up surrounding her bed.
after multiple friends of y/n including madelyn, harry and timothee come in and out of the hospital, it was just y/n and i again. "thank you," i thank the doctors who bring y/n dinner to her on a bed table. "let's see what you have today, shall we?" i say to y/n, smiling after i tilt the top half of her bed upwards with a remote. i take off the silver domed top. on the plate, there was chicken, rice, and vegetables. on a separate plate was also blueberries and strawberries. "are you hungry, liv? you can have some of mine," she offers. i smile, shaking my head. "you eat, i've already eaten when conan brought me stuff, remember?" i say. y/n goes to pick up the fork, her hand dropping down. "i can't pick it up," she mumbles, looking at me with a slight frown. i move my chair forward, leaning over and picking up y/n's fork. i poke the chicken onto the fork, moving it to y/n. impulsively, i put my hand under the fork in case the chicken falls off. y/n opens her mouth, and i place it in her mouth, before going to scoop the rice.
after multiple times of y/n offering her dinner to me and me declining, she eventually finished it, drinking water to wash it all down. "you full?" i ask. "yeah... haven't had a full meal in forever," she says, leaning back and closing her eyes. i stand up, moving the table away from the bed. "you can lay on the bed, liv," y/n says, nodding her head to the spare hospital bed across the room. "i'd rather stay here with you," i say, sitting back on the slightly uncomfortable chair. y/n shuffles over slowly, smiling at me. "come lay then," she says. i smile, standing up.
y/n's head rests on my chest as i lower the bed to its normal state. "how you feeling?" i ask, closing my eyes. "better, relieved." "does your chest hurt?" "a little, but not as near as much as before," she responds, yawning. "try and get some sleep, you just had surgery," i say. "oh really? i had no idea," i chuckle at y/n's sarcasm, and she looks up at me. "do you wanna log into instagram on my phone?" i ask, taking my phone off the charger madelyn left here for me. "no, i just wanna stay here with you," she says. i smile, before she speaks again. "and watch tv," she finishes, chuckling. i smile, reaching over and giving her the remote.
we watch a random channel that had 'instant family' playing, a doctor coming in. we both look up as the doctor speaks. "hey y/n, how we feeling?" the young female asks. "feeling sore," y/n responds as the doctor picks up a cord on the machine beside the bed. on the other end was a pulse oximeter, which she attached to y/n's index finger. she looks up, smiling at me, which i smile back. "hey olivia, here to keep y/n company?" she asks with a smile, both of them now looking at the machine. "yeah," i say, watching her take off the pulse oximeter. "you're good y/n, blood pressure's normal," she tells y/n. "awesome, thank you," she says.
y/n's pov
the movie finished, both of us sobbing. "oh my god," liv says, chuckling as she wipes her tears. "that's a good movie," i say, turning off the tv. "by the way, you don't have to stay with me." i add, looking at liv, "you can go home." "no way am i leaving you!" laugh, looking back down. "i'm not gonna lose you again, y/n."
