The first month of Josh being in Canada was bearable. Camille filled her days with school, her modeling gigs, and spending time with her friends. She stayed busy, counting down the days until Josh would come home. They texted constantly, video-called when they could, and Josh made sure to send her photos from the set to keep her included in his new world.
But as the weeks turned into months, the cracks began to show.

Unanswered Calls
โHey, Josh. Just checking in,โ Camille said, her voice light, though the ache in her chest was undeniable. She hung up and stared at her phone, the missed call notification from earlier glaring back at her.
She knew he was busy. Filming a movie wasnโt a nine-to-five job, and his schedule was packed. But lately, it felt like their conversations had become shorter and less frequent.
That night, as Camille lay in bed, her phone buzzed. A text from Josh popped up.
Josh: Sorry I missed your call. Long day on set. Iโll call tomorrow, promise.
Camille stared at the screen, her heart sinking. She typed out a quick reply: Itโs okay. Miss you.
She set the phone down, but sleep didnโt come easily.
A few days later, Camille sat with Maya and Riley at Topangaโs cafรฉ. They were laughing over something Zay had said earlier in class, but Camilleโs mind was elsewhere.
โEarth to Camille,โ Maya teased, snapping her fingers in front of her friendโs face. โYouโve been zoning out for like ten minutes. Whatโs going on?โ
Camille sighed, stirring her iced latte with the straw. โItโs Josh. Heโs so busy, and I feel like... I donโt know. Like Iโm not part of his life anymore.โ
Riley frowned. โThatโs not true, Camille. He loves you. You know that.โ
โMaybe,โ Camille said. โBut itโs hard. Heโs out there chasing his dream, meeting all these new people, and Iโm just... here. Waiting.โ
Maya leaned forward. โOkay, letโs get one thing straight. Youโre not โjust here.โ Youโre Camille freaking Hunter. Youโre gorgeous, talented, and youโve got your own dreams to chase. Donโt let this long-distance thing make you forget who you are.โ
Camille smiled weakly. โThanks, Maya. But itโs not just that. Itโs the feeling that he doesnโt need me anymore. Like Iโm a distraction.โ
Riley reached across the table, squeezing Camilleโs hand. โTalk to him. Tell him how youโre feeling.โ
โI will,โ Camille said, though doubt lingered in her voice.

That weekend, Camille and Josh finally managed to video call after days of missed connections. Seeing his face on the screen made her heart ache with longing.
โHey, beautiful,โ Josh said, smiling. โHowโs everything?โ
Camille hesitated, unsure of how to put her feelings into words. โItโs... fine. I just miss you, Josh. A lot.โ
โI miss you too,โ he said, though his tone was distracted.
Camille noticed how tired he looked, the way his attention seemed to drift as she spoke. It was the same feeling sheโd had for weeks nowโthat she was no longer his priority.
โDo you?โ she blurted out before she could stop herself.
Josh blinked. โWhat kind of question is that? Of course I do.โ
โIt doesnโt feel like it,โ Camille admitted, her voice trembling. โYouโre so busy, and I get it, I really do. But itโs like I donโt matter anymore.โ
Josh frowned. โCamille, thatโs not fair. You know how crazy things are here. Iโm trying to balance everything, but itโs hard.โ
โAnd itโs not hard for me?โ she shot back, tears welling in her eyes. โIโm here, trying to hold this together, while youโre out there living this whole other life. I feel like Iโm the only one fighting for us.โ
Josh ran a hand through his hair, frustration evident on his face. โThatโs not true. Iโm doing my best, Cam.โ
โMaybe your best isnโt enough,โ Camille whispered.
Her words hung in the air, heavy and final. Joshโs expression softened, but the damage was done.
โIโll call you tomorrow,โ he said quietly before ending the call.

The next day, Camille sat in the living room, her arms wrapped around her knees. Shawn walked in, immediately sensing something was wrong.
โKiddo, whatโs up?โ he asked, sitting beside her.
Camille hesitated before pouring out everythingโhow the distance was straining her relationship with Josh, how she felt like she was losing him, and how powerless she felt to stop it.
Shawn listened intently, his brow furrowed. When she finished, he placed a hand on her shoulder. โCam, I get it. Long-distance relationships are tough. But youโve got to ask yourselfโwhat do you want? Is this worth fighting for?โ
โI donโt know,โ Camille admitted, tears streaming down her face. โI love him, Dad. But it hurts so much.โ
Shawn pulled her into a hug. โLove isnโt supposed to be easy, but itโs also not supposed to make you miserable. If itโs meant to be, youโll find a way. And if itโs not... well, youโre strong enough to let go.โ

Over the next few days, Camille thought hard about what her dad had said. She loved Josh more than anything, but she couldnโt keep pretending everything was okay when it wasnโt.
One evening, as the sun set, she called him.
โHey,โ she said softly when he answered.
โHey,โ Josh replied, his voice cautious.
โIโve been thinking,โ Camille said. โAnd I think we need to be honest with each other. This distance... itโs breaking me, Josh. I donโt know if I can keep doing this.โ
Josh was silent for a moment. โI donโt want to lose you, Camille.โ
โI donโt want to lose you either,โ she said, her voice cracking. โBut I also canโt keep waiting for you to come back and hoping things will get better. We need to figure out if this is something we can handle. Together.โ
Josh sighed. โYouโre right. Letโs figure it out. I donโt want to give up on us, Cam.โ
---
Their conversation didnโt solve everything, but it was a start. Both Camille and Josh knew they had a long road ahead, but for now, they were willing to try. Because even when love was hard, it was still worth fighting for.
