"spill!" bebe shouts and catches up to nichole, wrapping her arm around her shoulders and pushing heidi out of the way. bebe brought more suitcases then the rest of us did so she took longer getting them back out. well, tolkien's butlers took longer anyways.
"okay so, we were in the cabin talking for a little bit, right? and then i don't know- we just started kissing." nichole tells all of us bashfully, her voice quiet as she speaks. "and?" bebe prods for more information. "we kissed. god bebe you sound like a middle schooler!" she says angrily and then storms off.
well, that was a quick conversation.
her faster paced walking made her luggage bump up and down on the deck more aggressively then before which was pretty funny to watch, but i felt bad she was upset so i kept my anusement down to a smile. on the other hand, kyle, thought it was real funny and burst into laughter. his laugh is contagious, made me want to laugh too, but i kept myself together. barely. stan punched him in his arm and he quieted down.
we all pause to admire the view around us as a group at the end of the dock. me personally, i've never been so close to the coast before. i tear my gaze away from the horizon for a moment to watch wendy catch up with stan, who turns around and wraps his arm around her shoulder as they look off into the ocean. it's kind of sweet seeing all of us stop to enjoy the splendor around us, collectively.
besides nichole she's long gone.
"my, it sure is pretty down here." butters marveled. the sky was becoming a lighter shade of blue as it does when dusk is approaching, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. the remnants of the afternoons warm sun reflected against the water and everyone joined butters in admiring the view. but that was short lived. it was time to unpack.
we all separated and traveled to our respective houses. girls plus butters at wavecrest home, team stan and clyde at hawthorn hill, tolkien's parents are staying in sunset cove, and the others at windcourt manor. having names for the homes feels very posh to me, but i kind of like it. it gives them character, even if they don't even mean anything. our house, wavecrest, is farthest from the coast. and hawthorn hill isn't even on a hill.
"shall i do the honors?" wendy asks us, referring to opening the front door. "just open the door nerd." bebe laughs and wendy does as she's told. we all file into the house, each of us pausing to admire the scene. the inside of the house was beautiful, knocking all my expectations out the floor-to-ceiling windows.
even the foyer was impressive. the living room was attached to the entry by a doorway that was at the foot of the stairs. opposite of that doorway was another doorway which led to a dining room, which led to the kitchen, which led to the living room. the entire base floor was a circle, all connected to eachother by archways. the entire design of the house was cohesive as possible and perfectly matched the idea i had of a beach house, but still added it's own elegant flair.
upstairs were, as we all already knew, 5 bedrooms. what we didn't know was how to sort out who got which room so we all stood awkwardly in the hallway of the second floor.
"how about we just all look around and then it's first come, first serve?" i propose. "one at a time or..?" butters asks in response. "just fucking look." bebe answers and walks towards the farthest bedroom muttering. i think her spat with nichole also put her in a bad mood, or maybe just the back to back traveling. i on the other hand, feel great and enter the bedroom closest to me happily.
i immediately take notice of the gorgeous lighting, all thanks to the large window right above the very comfortable looking bed. a mirror rests at the foot of the bed against the wall adjacent to a door. on the other side of the door is a closet next to the entry door. the decor of the room is simple, i presume the person who stayed before me took most of their stuff back home, but they did leave a small plant in the window, a couple candles on the nightstand in various scents, and a fuzzy carpet infront of the closet. i quickly peek inside the mysterious door, note that it's a bathroom, and move on to the next bedroom.
the previous guest left a lot more stuff. three framed paintings hung above the bed, all of them depicting designation vacation spots. other than that the walls were pretty blank like the previous bedroom. on the window hung a small disco ball. on the bed was a blue floral patterned throw blanket which perfectly complimented the other blue tones in the room. this bedroom didn't have a bathroom, but it did have a tv mounted on the wall infront of the bed.
a white wooden nightstand displayed a trio of fake succulents and a dish for trinkets. instead of a closet there was a fairly large dresser that matched the nightstand and resided underneath the tv. another floor length mirror rested in the corner near the nightstand above a shaggy blue carpet.
in the other corner was a very modern barrel chair and two soft orange pillows. to it's side there was a small white bookcase with a couple books with very diverse genres. romance, mystery, horror, fantasy, fiction, were all present and there was even a science novel.
"FOUND MINE!" bebe shouted, interrupting my investigating. i take this as a sign to move on, not wanting to end up with the worst room. that would suck- to have a shitty room all summer. i'm sure none of them are anything short of amazing though.
the next room i entered was the biggest of them all, and i think it was actually the primary bedroom of the whole house. it featured a bathroom, balcony and a walk in closet. above the king bed was a projecter, swan statue, the summer i turned pretty and it's sequel, a white potted ivory flower (which i think is a peony) and a snow globe of new york.
above the shelfful of items was a purple poster with a pink twig or something on it from the flower market. 'papiers decoupes' it read in large print and 'my curves are not crazy' in smaller print beneath. once again, a floor length mirror makes an appearance, but this one was wider in shape. in the corner is a cherry blossom branch inside of a sage green pot stationed on top of a beige crate that matched the wooden pattern on the frame of the mirror.
above that was two framed photos. one of a butterfly, the other of a milk weed. the bathroom was extremely clean and had a cute woven carpet that matched the colour scheme of the bedroom. the light in the walk-in closet was a disco ball? it spun and glittered when the switch was flipped which was interesting.
ultimately, i decide upon room three. i just like it better than the other two. and it's bigger, so. after we unpacked we all convened in the dining room to discuss important house things. what rooms we picked, chores, who's cooking, stuff like that.
"what rooms did everyone pick?" heidi asked once we were all together. "mine had a walk in closet." bebe tells her. i'm not suprised tolkiens house has two rooms with walk in closets and i'm not suprised bebe picked one of them. "i chose the one with that big window inside of it, just above the desk?" wendy states, trying to explain how it looked. i must have not looked in that room i guess. "anyways, more important matters." she continues. "who's doing what around the house?"
"i'll cook." i offer. since i was usually the host of the slumber parties we held, i would end up cooking in the morning when we woke up (more so afternoon) most of the time anyways. i would say i'm a good cook. anything that doesn't require a recipe is fine by me. and also i don't want to clean the bathrooms.
"thank god." bebe smiles at me playfully before continuing, "wendy can't cook for shit." wendy feigns a shocked face, placing her hand above her heart. "not true. and you can clean the bathrooms now bitch." now it's wendy's turn to smile and bebes turn to be shocked. "the fuck i am? get someone else to do it instead." she crosses her arms and leans back in her chair like a child.
"how about whoever has their own bathrooms cleans theirs, and those who don't will clean the main two?" heidi mediates and everyone looks around and slowly nods their heads in agreement. "great! moving on; butters can you do the floor stuff?" wendy asks. "yep." he says peppily. "and you're fine with that?" she confirms. "yep." he repeats and she moves on.
"we still need volunteers to clean windows, do laundry, clean counters, do dishes, wipe tables, and keep the house orderly." wendy lists off. "i'll do all the kitchen stuff." i say. it's only fair that i clean up my own mess. "i'll do the laundry and the windows." heidi chirps.
"and what are you doing wendy?" i ask her. she hasn't agreed to do anything, yet she's singling out bebe. "yeah, wendy." bebe mocks. "i'll take out the trash and take care of the dining room." she says simply. we all sit in a silence for a moment before bebe groans dramatically loud.
"im bored." she complains and takes her phone out of her pocket. i don't know why she bothers because she then immediately puts it down; her expression contorting from one of boredom into excitement. "let's have a bonfire tonight. it will be celebratory!" she says, picking her phone back up again and beginning to text someone, who i presume is tolkien. "wow! that's a big word bebe." wendy jokes.
one time bebe wrote wendy a birthday card with half the words spelt wrong, and wendy brought it up for weeks. it was hilarious, but digs on bebe's intelligence make her furious.
"okay, shut up bitch." bebe holds her palm out to wendy to 'quiet' her. "let's go see what house windcourt is up to." bebe sort of tells everyone in the form of a question to make it seem like we have a choice in the matter.
surrendering to the idea, we all go to the front door where our shoes are and begin to put them on. "house windcourt is funny. remember your harry potter phase bebe?" butters brings up while sliding his vans on. bebe glares at him and tells him to shut up while she struggles with her air forces.
after a bit we all finally are ready and make the short walk to windcourt manor led by bebe.
once we arrive she knocks on the door loudly and his met by an annoyed craig moments later. "what." he says, already short with us. you think he would get tired of being negative all the time, but he never does.
"tolkien?" bebe shouts, looking past craig's tall frame into the house. he states at her unimpressed. "shut up. i'll go get him." he shuts the door in her face and she begins to protest but it's opened again not too long after, but by tolkien this time. i don't think craig wanted to talk to her anyways. "yes?" he asks, looking at the crowd of us confused.
"let's have a bonfire party tonight. on the beach." she adds at the end quickly as it comes to her mind. "bonfire?" craig's distinct voice is heard in the distance, and he quickly appears at the mention of the event. "sounds fun to me." he sure doesn't sound like it's fun, kind of shrugging as he looks down at tolkien. he looks hilarious standing next to craig; he completely dwarves tolkien.
"sure. ten p.m on the beach, bring a jacket." tolkien tells her. they're very strange with how they plan things- neither of them actually discussed anything. just telling eachother details as it comes to the forefront of their mind. "oh, and text the group chat." he adds, talking to no one in particular before shutting the door. "a bonfire does sound fun!" butters remarks excitedly and we walk back home. i don't know why we all needed to go with her to have a two minute conversation that should have just been a text- but it's fine. i don't mind walking.
once in the house everyone goes to their respective rooms. my definition of unpacking consisted of carrying my suitcases to my room- so i begin the task of riffling through my luggage for something different to wear. i settled upon a simple, beach-y outfit, and a jacket per tolkiens suggestion and go back downstairs into the kitchen to prepare a small dinner.
the fridge was fully stocked and so were the cabinets with food. we had about 2 hours at this point before the agreed upon time, so i just decided to boil some pasta and open a can of marinara for dinner. spaghetti!
they all came down in different outfits then our previous ones, and heidi and bebe noticeably touched up on their make-up. after eating we were ready for the party. bebe quickly texted tolkien before leaving to confirm there was alcohol then we were on our way.
