third person's p.o.v

"what do you mean she's sick?" bucky shrieked at the nurse.

y/n l/n, one of the best cheerleaders at seabrook high, had passed out during cheer practice. at the beginning of the day y/n woke up with a slightly scratchy throat and a runny nose, but she didn't think anything of it. she was going to push through the best that could, and she did. she spent most of the day with her boyfriend, zed which made her forget about how she felt that morning. it wasn't until after school during cheer practice that she felt sick again, and that's when she passed out. she woke up to bucky, captain of the squad and one of her best friends, yelling at the nurse.

"can you keep down?" y/n groaned. she looked around her to see bucky, bree, and addison standing around her.

"i took her temperature. it was 103 degrees, she has the flu." the nurse answered.

"what?! she can't have the flu, the homecoming game is in two days! we can't do this without her." bucky panicked.

"i'm sorry guys. now who's gonna be the flyer now?" y/n said before breaking out into a coughing fit.

"don't worry about that. just worry about getting better. i'm gonna go get zed." addison said before giving y/n a quick hug and running out of the nurse's office.

"you guys should go back to practice. make sure that you nail the routine for homecoming." y/n said with a smile to bucky and bree.

they begrudgingly left the nurse's office and went back to the gym. not even a minute later zed busted through the door to the nurse's office wearing his dirty practice uniform. his green hair was stuck to his forehead and he was panting like crazy. the nurse screamed and ran out of her own office.

"sorry about that. some people aren't as accepting as others." y/n said. "did you run here from the football field?"

"yup. addison told me you were in the nurse's office and i just had to make you were ok." he said as he sat down in the chair next to y/n.

"good news is i'm not dying. bad news i'm sick so i won't be able to cheer for you on friday." y/n said with a sigh.

"what?! but you were my good luck charm." he exclaimed, a huge goofy smile sat on his face. he grabbed y/n's hand and intertwined their fingers.

"you'll be fine without me. now go back to practice. i'll see you tomorrow ok?"

"do i have to?" he whined.

"yes you do. now go."

zed gave y/n a kiss on the forehead and left the nurse's office. y/n left after the nurse came back and went home. she didn't have homework so she just spent the rest of the day watching t.v and texting addison.

~~ two days later ~~

the last two days for y/n were not great. she was sneezing and coughing and she could barely speak without her voice cracking, but she was getting better. her voice was almost back to normal, the coughing died down, and her temperature went down to 99 degrees. and surprisingly she felt good enough to cheer at that day's homecoming game. even though y/n was sick she still went to cheer practice to watch and make sure she didn't miss anything. during lunch that day she went up to bucky's table and sat down next to him.

"hey y/n. do you feel any better?" bucky asked.

"i'm still sick, but i feel way better than i did on wednesday." y/n responded.

"i just wish you were good enough to cheer today, we really need our best flyer out there." he sighed sadly.

"well, the good thing is i will be able to cheer today. i'm still coughing and stuff but i think i'll be fine." y/n said with a smile.

"wait really?!" bucky asked, his eyes wide in disbelief.

"hell yeah. but is it ok if i add something to the routine?" y/n asked with a pleading look on her face. bucky's facial expression went from relieved to suspicious.

"it depends on what it is." bucky answered. y/n leaned in closer and whispered to him the cheer that she wanted to add to the halftime routine. bucky sighed and rolled his eyes.

"ok fine." bucky said resentfully. "but you better be amazing today."

y/n let out a shriek of happiness and gave bucky a huge hug before leaving the table to go sit with zed, eliza, and the other zombies. considering that bucky hates zombies and isn't entirely excepting of y/n and zed's relationship, y/n was so happy that bucky agreed to this.

school was ending early that day so that the football team and the cheer squad had extra time to practice before the game. right after lunch, everyone was dismissed. y/n wished zed good luck for his game and pretended to leave the school. she wanted her cheering at the game to be a surprise for him. after zed left she went back into the school and went to go practice with the cheerleaders.

for the next 3 hours, y/n practiced with the rest of the squad and made sure they were all filled in on her personal cheer for zed. it was gonna be great.

~~ at the football game ~~

the mighty shrimp have been consistently scoring since the beginning of the game but the other team was starting to catch up. It was a struggle but eventually, seabrook scored another touchdown, courtesy of their star football player, zed. after he scored y/n started her personal cheer for him. she threw down her pom-poms, grabbed the huge megaphone from the ground and turned to the cheering crowd of seabrook supporters.

"feel that breeze? it's not a sneeze! another score for our young boy Z! whoo! go zed!" y/n yelled cheerfully towards the crowd.

her and addison nodded to each other and did a back handspring into an aerial. the crowd started to yell and cheer even more.

after a few more minutes the seabrook shrimp scored the winning touchdown. they won! the crowd went wild. y/n could see eliza, bonzo, zed's little sister zoey, and zed's dad cheering the hardest. she was so caught up in the noise and victory that she didn't notice zed come up behind her and wrap his arms around her waist. she turned around in his arms and looked into his eyes.

"i thought you couldn't cheer." zed said.

"oh come on zed, you know the flu wasnt gonna stop me. i'm always gonna be there to cheer you on." y/n said with a smile on her face.

zed smiled back and pulled her into a kiss causing the crowd to cheer even louder.
