"Lor manari!"
"alright, lets uh gather round, sorry im late guys," mr schue said solemnly, pulling up a chair to which katy knew just what was coming.
"i was with principle figgins, bad news guys, puckerman's in juvie." he explained, and katy looked down as the rest of the club gasped and whispered among themselves.
"really was just a matter of time," tina said, saying what they were all thinking.
"what did he do?" quinn asked, outraged,
"he drove his mom's volvo through the front of a convenience store and drove off with the atm." mr schue explained, with severity in his voice, as katy tried to block out that laughter coming from the room at the reasoning for her brother going to juvie.
"and when is he getting out?!" rachel quizzed, weirdly concerned,
"unknown." mr schue answered, looking quizzically at her.
"he might be the dumbest person on that planet and that's coming from me!" brittany said honestly, earning nods for some around her,
"guys, lets have some sympathy." mr schue urged, remembering that puck's very own sister was sat quietly at the front bottom corner of the room.
"for a guy who put his own needs before the teams, we need his voice and his bad boy stage presence." finn argued, annoyed with his best friend.
"i think it's me who needs sympathy mr schue." katy spoke out quietly, drawing all eyes to her, "the car's in the garage getting fixed, i have to walk to school on my own now, and he's my brother, we're close. they're right, he's an idiot. im still in a slight state of shock to be honest with you." the room went awkwardly silent at katy's words, feeling bad for the girl.
"anyway," mr schue continued, trying to move on from puck, "we can't look at this as a this as a crisis, it's an opportunity!"
"for what?"quinn interrupted, "further embarrassment and humiliation?"
which most of the room agreed.
"for welcoming our newest member, sam evans!" mr schue said excitedly,
katy perked up at the mentioning of sam's name, beaming at him as he jogged into the room.
"hey everybody! im sam, sam i am, and i don't like green eggs and ham,"
katy giggled a little too loudly, making the confused room stare at her and sam grin at her, happy that someone got his joke.
"oh wow he has no game." santana muttered to brittany,
"shut up santana!" katy whispered harshly at her friend, who gave her a knowing look.
"okay! this is gonna be great, youre not gonna regret joining sam!" finn smiled, running up and shaking sam's hand, "sit right there, next to katy." he pointed out the seat and katy patted it with her hand awkwardly, making a mental note to stop being so weird around him.
"alright! question for the group! what's a duet?" mr schue started the lesson eagerly. rachel's hand shot up, knowing the answer immediately but was beaten to it by brittany, "a blanket!" she smiled dreamily.
mr schue ignored her, "a duet is when two voices join together to become one, great duets are like a good marriage, they compliment each other..." mr schue explained the concept of the lesson so katy took the chance to talk to sam.
"hey! why didn't you tell me you were joining?" she whispered happily,
"i wanted to surprise you," sam shrugged smiling at her, "i thought a club with you in it must be pretty fun so..."
"well im glad you did! i promise you'll love it!" katy said enthusiastically,
"yeah." sam replied,
"im sorry about santana by the way, it's nothing personal, it's just how she is, you'll get used to it eventually," katy apologized on behalf of her friend,
"it's all good, you laughed right?" he smiled,
"yep, i think your game is damn good evans," katy stood up for him, realising how flirty that sounded, then blushed a dark shade of red, which sam laughed at sweetly.
"so this week i want you to pair up, and sing a duet," katy eyed sam slightly, hoping to sing with him, "and since you guys all seemed to love our little defying gravity diva off, im making this... a competition!"
the group looked around excitedly.
"what's the winner get?" mike asked excitedly.
"dinner for two, on me, at breadstix!" mr schue announced, knowing how excited this would make the teenagers. there was a chorus of gasps, murmurs and an "i have to win" from santana as they discovered the possibility of winning food.

the next day, katy was exhausted from cheerios practice, she loved it and she felt fitter than ever, but she was damn tired after practice, coach sylvester worked them hard. so she decided to take a minute at her locker to cool off.
she admired her beautifully organised locker and scanned her eyes over the pictures of the memories made with her friends. she finally got to the picture of her and puck at the carnival over the summer, with quinn and brittany pulling a face in the background. she sighed, she missed him more than she thought, yes there was less noise (from him and santana) and less mess and the house was practically to herself but it was a bit lonely. she looked up to see sam coming out of the boys locker room, she smiled over at him and was shocked to see him covered in slushy almost two seconds later.
"welcome to glee club lady lips!" azimo shouted as karofsky laughed.
katy ran over quickly, giving both boys the finger and leading sam to the girls bathrooms calmly.
she sat on the side of the sink, and helped him wash the slushy off his eyes and face gently,
"you're lucky it wasn't the blueberry flavor, if it gets in your pants, i looked like a creature from avatar down there when i got slusheed. it's my favourite flavor though!" katy laughed as sam looked up at her admiringly,
"i saw avatar like 6 times!" sam exclaimed, katy giggled, defeated.
"i saw it 4! first time i snuck out was to see it the second time," she laughed recalling the memory.
"why do you even bother? you could be queen of this school, you're pretty, everyone seems to like you, you're a cheerio." sam asked, obviously disheartened by being slusheed by his football teammates.
"well first i love to sing. and those guys have been there for me through everything, they may be self centered and losers at first glance but they're the most loyal people you'll meet. they'll have you when no one else will." katy explained, grinning to herself at her love for that damn club.
sam smiled at her sincerely, looking deeply into her eyes, "lor manari." he said out of nowhere. katy looked at him, with slight confusion,
"it's Na'vi..."
"i have pretty eyes. no ones ever told me that before," she blushed, fully understanding his Na'vi, "irayo" she returned, grateful to her great memory that she had that phrase locked away in her brain as sam's whole face lit up when she spoke back in Na'vi.
"well they should!" sam protested, wiping the last of the slushy off his face. "have you got a partner for the duets assignment?" he asked her.
katy smiled excitedly, hoping he'd ask her, "nope,"
"well you wanna sing with me? i think we'd sound amazing together!" sam tried to encourage her to sing with him.
"id love to! and yeah, we're gonna win that dinner at breadstix!" katy agreed, excitedly. "better get brainstorming songs, evans!"
katy smiled and winked at him as she left him stood smirking at her as she left the girls bathroom.

"katy! we need your help!" tina called out to the redhead who was studying for geography in the library.
"yes tike" katy smiled, addressing the pair by their ship name, "what can i do for you two lovely people today?"
"we need couples counselling," mike admitted, looking seriously at her, "i suggested asian couples counselling, but that only made her more mad!" he added in a whisper to katy who was deeply amused by their choice of councillor.
"ive never even had a relationship?" katy said very confused, but then again flattered. she loved tina and mike and was happy to help but wasn't sure she'd be much use to the new couple.
"but you give the best advice in general so..." tina explained,
"okayyy... just let me get into character," katy agreed slowly, taking a deep breath and putting on a smile that mimicked that of miss pillsbury. "so what's going on that you need couples counselling?"
"well mike won't be my duet partner for the duets competition." tina said, crossing her arms stubbornly and glaring at her new boyfriend.
"i can't sing tina! everyone knows that!" mike argues back,
"okay, well don't you want to learn to sing mike? have you tried to sing?" katy asked, taking tina's side first as she seemed the most upset,
"not really," mike mumbled, "i don't want to me bad at it" he looked down embarrassed,
katy smiled sympathetically, "tina, can you see why mikes upset now? maybe you could help him with his confidence in the singing department, he might be good!"
tina nodded, appreciating mikes argument more.
"i really want to win the dinner at breadstix! so we can have a normal date!" tina added to her argument,
"okay, what's wrong with the dates you've been having?" katy enquired, getting more interested in the case by the second.
"chicken feet." mike burst out.
"im sorry?" katy spluttered, confused,
tina sighed, "all we ever do is get dim sum with your mom, i just want a normal salad, one without chicken feet in it," tina looked exasperated and slightly insane, clearly annoyed at chicken feet.
"i can totally see where tina's coming from, maybe consider shaking up the dates a little, make it interesting!" katy laughed slightly, exaggerating her last words,
"okay, ill try," mike smiled,
"you should do the duet competition with me though mike, you'll be amazing, you just need to believe in yourself, you're a really talented dancer, im sure your voice will be just as good," tina looked at her boyfriend, taking his hand, "in fact, i have the perfect song for us!"
katy just sat back and observed as the couple apologized, going back to their loving selves, knowing her job was done.
"you're a genius katz, like you're so good at this!" mike beamed, grateful to the girl, looking at her with amazement.
"well, what can i say?" katy smiled cockily, with the puckerman charm. "ive got to go, meet sam, we're sorting our duet!"
"okay see you later katy kat!" tina grinned, "you know, when you finally get with sam, we could go on epic double dates!"
"definitely!" katy replied excitedly, not realizing what tina was suggesting,
"so you are gonna get together?" mike smirked,
katy rolled her eyes, "i never said that! we're just friends!" and she left before she could be interrogated any longer by the newly happy tike.

"i love astronomy, something about all this space makes all my problems seem kinda small" sam said, admiring the planets hanging off the ceiling, which katy thought was cute, "this one's venus, the planet of love" he said, looking at her.
"no actually, it's mars the planet of war," katy corrected him,
"which one are we on?" he asked flirtatiously,
"earth genuis, now why don't you come back to it and talk to me about duets," katy smiled walking away, "what've you got?"
"okay," sam retaliated, picking up his guitar, "we'll start off with choreography, singing will be easy so ill start playing," he said spinning round in a circle, making katy giggle slightly, "now get behind me," he instructed, with a massive smile on his face, as katy walked and stood behind him, "now grab my hips," to which katy laughed out loud and resorted in putting her hand on his shoulder "and start swaying," he said, swaying himself back and forth, "now here's the cool part, give me your hand," he smiled, taking her hand, "do you know how to play?"
"nope" katy shook her head slightly,
"alright it's easy, just put that finger there," sam said, placing her hand in the right position, "just like that," katy gasped as sam strummed the guitar, she was making those chords, she learnt the piano and the flute but never the guitar so this was exciting for her. "and do it fast back and forth," he instructed watching her petite hand as it rocked back and forth on the guitar.
katy looked up from her hands and into sam's eyes instantly feeling herself being pulled towards him, sam suddenly stopped playing as they looked into each other's eyes. katy felt her heart race as he leaned in, and kissed her softly on the lips, katy kissed back, slightly nervously, but she felt reassured as she felt his hand against her cheek, caressing it slightly. after what seemed like ages, katy pulled away, looking shyly into sam's green eyes.
"wow," he breathed quietly, making katy blush redder than she already was.
"yeah," she replied, quietly biting her lip,
"shall we um get back to the duet?" katy blushed, trying to return her racing heart rate to a steady pulse,
"yeah," sam smiled, in some sort of trance, guiding her hand back to the guitar where she could learn the chords for the choreography.
โ
"that was really rude," sam scoffed, which katy completely agreed with. rachel and finn had just done a very offensive performance of 'with you im born again' earning them insults from the new directions who were shocked at their insensitivity.
"like really rude!" tina added, disapprovingly.
"i seriously wanted to punch both of you," quinn exclaimed, mad.
rachel and finn looked shocked, completely unaware of the scandal they'd just created.
"i have to agree," mr schue spoke up, "i mean it's a great duet but what you guys did with it was really inappropriate, your costume choice was a little insensitive and frankly, im disappointed"
"what?" rachel exclaimed in a shocked manner,
"are you serious?" finn added, with an equally surprised expression "im er.."
"shocked!"
"we're shocked! i really hope this doesn't cost us the competition!" rachel said.
katy saw through rachels acting, mainly due to finn's inexperience, they were up to something she thought, as she narrowed her eyes at the couple, watching them take their seats at the front of the choir room.
"right, er, whose next?" mr schue asked, trying to break the awkward tension in the room.
katy and sam looked at each other standing up and heading to the front of the choir room.
"okay i just wanna say, im really excited and that i couldn't have asked for a better partner," he said, smiling at katy, who smiled back, looking at the floor as she felt all eyes turn to her.
(song- lucky, sang by katy and sam)
the room erupted in applause and the pair sang their last notes, hands entwined together.
"alright! since artie, brittany and quinn have dropped out of the race, it's time to take it to a vote!" mr schue announced, handing out slips of paper.
katy carefully wrote hers and sams names in pink gel pen, drawing a little heart and smiley face underneath, and placed it in the hat.
mr schue quickly counted the votes in front of the anticipated teenagers, "well, even though it looks like just about everyone voted for themselves, even those who didn't compete, we do have a winner, by 2 votes... sam and katy!" he said excitedly, offering the voucher out to them,
"what?!" santana screamed getting up after katy and sam who'd gone up to the front to collect their prize, beaming at each other giddily, "screw that i want my stixs!" only to be held back by mercedes, who comforted the teary latina, who felt deprived of her breadstix.
โ
the next day, in hopes to talk to katy, sam ran to catch up with her on the way to geometry class.
"hey katy! wait up!" he called, allowing her to wait for him,
"hey sam, you okay?" katy said,
"yeah, ive just been meaning to ask you something since we won the duet," he smiled, walking next to her,
"yes?" katy chimed,
"i wanna take you on a date," sam said, a bit nervously,
"id love that!" katy grinned, "we could use the coupon we won?"
"no, i don't wanna use that this time," sam argued, in a soft tone,
"oh yeah? why's that?" katy asked, intrigued,
"because the gentleman always pays on the first date," he smiled at her, hoping to impress the small girl.
katy found sam's obvious attempt to impress her
