"I got half way and couldn't find a rhyme for McDonald's!"

Rachel's persistent nature finally payed off as Quinn had strangely agreed to write a song with her for regionals after MCR said they couldn't do their sing for regionals. The new directions were ready for their task at writing an epic anthem for regionals to go with Rachel and Quinn's song.
Katy was throwing notes across the classroom to Finn, giving him the answers to the history homework that Rachel would've usually given him, occasionally hitting anyone who got in the way. He said he would've asked Quinn but he knew she didn't approve of him taking her answers so Katy was the next best thing.
Mr Schue paraded in, last as usual, stopping their note throwing and starting the lesson.
"Buzzkill." Katy muttered, "Finn's gonna fail now."
Mike chuckled under his breath at Katy's huffing and nodded in agreement.
Santana announced she had written a song with the help of Tina and Mr Schue gave her the stage.
"This is a song that I wrote for Sam." She told them. Katy sat up a bit straighter and pursed her lips, Santana had been openly flirting with Sam since Bieber week and Katy was sick of it. "It's called Trouty Mouth."
Sam's eyes widened appalled, "wait what's it called?"
"Trouty mouth." Mike whispered to him, feeling that he needed to hear the name of the song.
(song- Trouty mouth, sang by Santana Lopez)
As upset she was with Santana, she found it quite hard not to smile during the performance. The song was creative but Katy felt sorry for Sam who was sat, looking very insecure, trying to hide his mouth, she took his hand and squeezed it comfortingly, cuddling into his side. After listening respectfully for a while, Sam stopped Santana at the next verse,
"Okay can we stop?! Stop with the mouth jokes!" Sam protested, upset,
"Sit down! I'm not finished!" Santana shouted, angrily,
"Yes you are! Mr Schue we're not doing a song at regionals called Trouty mouth!" Sam insisted,
"I have to agree with Sam on this one, but such a good first try Santana! I just don't think it's got the er epic feel we need for regionals." Mr Schue explained, letting Santana down slowly.
"I've also written a song, it's for Lauren." Puck said, coming forward and putting on his guitar. "It's called big ass... heart." He explained, as Mr Schue put his head in his hands, starting to regret his life choices.
(song- big ass heart, sang by puck)
Katy danced along in her seat, clicking her fingers in time with Mike and Sam, actually enjoying the song her brother had written. Lauren also looked like she was enjoying the song which was a relief after fat bottomed girls.
Santana looked slightly sour that everyone seemed to like his sing more than hers but tapped her foot along none the less.
"So that's what you've been working on!" Katy exclaimed once he'd finished,
"Yup!" Puck smiled,
"That was also great Puck, but I still don't think it's right for regionals." Mr Schue smiled at him as Puck frowned. "You know what? We'll try again next time, we're gonna write an amazing song for regionals!"

As they left the room, Katy decided it was time to have a talk with Santana.
"Hey, Santana! I need to talk to you." She said firmly, pulling her into an empty classroom.
"What do you want?" Santana gave her a smile, which Katy couldn't quite tell whether it was fake or not.
"I just want to ask you why you've been constantly flirting with my boyfriend." Katy asked sternly,
"I thought you weren't one of those girls who got jealous." Santana said snarkily,
"I'm not, usually, but you've been all over him since Bieber week and it's not fair. I just wanted to ask you why." She explained fairly calmly.
"Why didn't you just call me out in glee club rather than waste my time now? I'm not scared of you, you're all bark and no bite," Santana scowled,
"You don't have to be so rude about this Tana, I wanted to ask you whether it's about Britt. Is flirting with Sam your distraction from Britt?" Katy got to the point, mainly because she was kinda scared of Santana.
She sighed, running her hands through her hair, frustrated.
"You don't have to be embarrassed Santana. I get it." Katy smiled slightly,
"No you don't get it!" Santana snapped, slamming her hands on the table, "Sam loves you back, he always did. There's no one else that could compare to you in his eyes! I told Britt I loved her and she didn't say it back. I put all my feelings out there just to be humiliated, rejected and she's all happy with the four eyed looser and I'm just here. Lonely! So yes, I am flirting with Sam to show her that I don't need her love, to try and hide my embarrassment!" She broke down in tears onto Katy's shoulder, she was shocked by the Latina's outburst, and held her close, trying to comfort her.
"You're okay, you're gonna be okay Tana, I'm here." She comforted, gently as Santana just sobbed into her shoulder.
"I'm sorry Katy, I didn't mean to hurt you." She cried,
"It's alright, I just wanted to make sure you know? You deserve all the happiness in the world. And someday soon, you'll find some guy or girl who knows how truly awesome you are." Katy soothed,
"I hope so. Can you not tell anyone about this?" Santana asked quietly, drying her tears.
"It's safe with me, promise." Katy smiled, brushing her friend's hair out of her eyes.
"Thank you, i really needed that." She sniffed, letting Katy hug her.
"I'm always here Tana. Anytime you need me I'm right here."

Katy was trying to see if she could do the splits across two chairs as Sam tried to ask her about the best rhyming combinations.
"Does anything rhyme with beauty?" He asked, frowning at his rhyming dictionary,
"I don't know? Hot patootie?" Katy suggested, making Tina laugh.
"Aren't you going to write a song Katz?" Mercedes asked her as she wobbled on the chairs and at least six people ran to try and catch her.
"I tried that," she replied, steadying herself, "I got half way and couldn't find a rhyme for McDonald's" she shrugged,
"You wrote about food?" Mike questioned giggling,
"Yeah. The love of my life!" Katy explained, Sam frowned at her,
"I thought I was the love of your life!" He pouted,
"You are. But Tana already wrote a banging song about you, so food's the next closest thing." She shrugged, giving him a cheeky smile.
"You should've written a song about your favourite dance partner!" Mike suggested,
"Brittany? That would've been great, good idea. But not much rhymes with Brittany." Katy beamed at the blonde, making Mike frown like Sam.
"I meant me!"
"Oh that's a lot easier to rhyme!" Katy teased, as Mike shoved her gently so she fell off the chairs she was splitting over and into Sam's lap, making the room laugh at her.
"Alright guys! Stop messing about, we have a song to write!" Mr Schue came in, glaring at Katy who was giggling with Mike. "Mercedes, you said you have a song, let's hear it!"
"Y'all this is gonna be a hit single some day. You heard it here first!" She smiled sassily, as the room cheered at her confidence.
(song- hell to the no, sang by Mercedes Jones)
It was by far the best song they'd come up with, the most structured and it actually felt like an anthem but Mr Schue wasn't convinced as usual.
"It was a great song Mercedes but..."
"But my butt Mr Schue that song was amazing!" Mercedes blocked his criticism,
"I agree but I don't think its quite right for regionals," Mr Schue said gently, "guys just think about it. What's your favourite song of all time?"
"My headband." Brittany smiled,
"Alanis Morissette's you oughta know." Santana added,
"Anything ABBA or Buble!" Katy chipped in,
"What's going on Marvin Gaye." Puck finished, impressing Lauren.
"And what are all those songs about?" Mr Schue asked,
"Headbands!" Brittany exclaimed.
"All these songs come from a place of pain." He explained, going up to the whiteboard, "the great songs are about hurt. And that's what we need to tap into for this song"
"That should be easy. Coach Sylvester tortures us all the time for no reason and tries to get the whole school to hate us." Artie said, shrugging, as most of the room nodded in agreement.
"Yesterday she filled Britts and my lockers with dirt." Santana told them as Mr Schue wrote dirt on the board.
"She literally throws sticks at me." Mercedes added,
"Okay what else?"
"She called the Ohio Secretary of State saying she was me and that I wanted to change my name to Tina Cohen Loser." Tina told them, making everyone highly worried and shocked.
"She did what?..." Mr Schue sighed, writing loser on the board. "And how does this make you feel?"
"Well at first it hurts but then it mostly makes you wanna win!" Finn explained the feeling pretty perfectly,
"Guys. I think you may've just found your song!" Mr Schue smiled, writing loser like me on the board. "Let's get to work!"

The day of regionals finally arrived and the new directions were stood backstage after watching the warblers perform and preparing to go on themselves.
Katy had just finished fixing her makeup after crying all the way through the Klaine duet and decided to go and make sure Rachel was as ready as ever for her latest big moment.
"Hey Rach!" She pounced on her, hugging the brunette from behind.
"Hey Kat, you ready for this?" Rachel smiled, looking at her through the mirror,
"I am but the big question is are you ready for this? You've got the big solo!" Katy beamed, proud of her,
"I think so. I've just got to really show the emotion." She sighed taking in a deep breath,
"I really love the song by the way. It's truly beautiful." Katy complimented her.
"Thank you. It came from the heart." Rachel chuckled slightly, thinking of crying the whole time she'd written the song.
"I can tell. It's gonna do us proud I can tell. It's our year." She smiled,
"Yeah I really hope so!" Rachel replied, beaming.
Katy looked over and she could see that Finn was desperate to talk to Rachel so she slightly reluctantly left her best friend, letting him talk to her before she had to sing and went over to join Santana and Artie on the sidelines so they could watch the performance.
(song- get it right, sang by Rachel Berry)
She rested her head on Santana's shoulder to listen to Rachel sing, gazing at her, gently. Every word was coming out with such an emotion that Katy was worried she was going to mess up her makeup again before she had to go on stage for the end of the song.ย
(song- loser like me, sang by the new directions)
Katy really thought they had a chance with this song. It was perfect anthem material, it had a message, a catchy chorus and it really helped them believe in themselves and overcome all the people who ever put them down. The best part was it was so fun to be on stage with all her friends really singing their hearts out. At the end of the song Mike brought out the slushy confetti machine, this was the exciting part, they threw their confetti slushies out to the crowd who cheered excitedly as the red and silver freckles fell down gracefully on them. Katy put her arms around Mercedes and Brittany, who were on either side of her, happily celebrating their song as they were clapped for by the audience.

Finally, it was time to find out who'd won regionals and was heading on to nationals. As much as Katy hoped it was then, she couldn't help but hope that it was Kurt and the warblers too, Kurt had had a really rough year and maybe going to nationals would help a bit.ย  She had Rachel squeezing one hand, her eyes tight shut in anticipation, Puck's hand in the other and Sam leaning his forehead against her shoulder as they awaited the results.
"My husband has verbally abusive and I've been drinking since noon." The guest judge announced, looking completely out of it. The crowd and the three show choirs looked around at each other, giving each other very awkward, worried looks. "I'm bored. Let's just see who won huh?"
There was another short moment of silence that seemed like a lifetime as she opened the envelope.
"The new directions! You're going to nationals in New York!" She announced.
The new directions sprung up and down cheering and hugging each other, Katy wrapped both arms around Rachel jumping up and down, joyfully. She next jumped into Sam's arms hugging him tight and kissing him passionately, hugging everyone at least twice.
In a moment of anger and frustration, Sue, who had been coaching aural intensity, went over and punched the guest lady in the face, ruining the mood as everyone was too shocked and confused to continue celebrating.
Kurt and Blaine were stood at the mckinley bus waiting for their friends. Katy ran and jumped between the two of them, giving them both a hug.
"You two were amazing!" She smiled, "I cried the whole way through your duet!"
"so were you." Kurt grinned, hugging all his Mckinley friends before they had to board the Dalton bus back.

Still buzzing from their regionals win, the new directions were beaming as they started their next lesson.
Mr Schue was talking on the phone as he walked in, making most of them cringe with his soppy tone.
"Miss Holliday sends her best and can't wait to congratulate you all in person when she gets back from her Mediterranean retreat. Now, we all know that winning regionals was a team effort and nationals isn't going to be any different but like in sports, every winning team has a player that rises above to help carry their team mates to victory. The MVP. I would like to start a tradition of honouring that player after every competition. So through a unanimous vote by all of you, your MVP is miss Rachel Berry!" Mr Schue smiled at Rachel who looked slightly shocked as she came up to accept her award.
"If I could just say a few words." She asked,
"And there she goes making me regret voting for her!" Santana muttered making Katy giggle.
"First of all i just wanna day how incredible that song you guys wrote was, I was so inspired. You know it's funny, I've won a lot of trophies for singing competitions and dancing competitions but I've always felt like the girl who never gets the breast ring. And maybe I never will but today and at regionals the way you guys believed in me and took a chance with me. All I've ever wanted is to feel special and chosen and I wanted to thank you guys for giving me that. That's all." She got a bit emotional, feeling finally that the group actually liked her, rather than just tolerated her. Katy looked around and she felt that the group all had a new found understanding and sympathy for the brunette, even Santana, that they didn't have before as she'd poured her feelings out and they all went up for a group hug. The perfect way to end the week.
