"THE NAME'S EVANS, SAM EVANS!"

"KATY PUCKERMAN! AFTER A YEAR AT MCKINLEY, I see you've finally given in and thrown that cheerleader uniform on! And I must say, hubba bubba!!" Jacob Ben Isreal persisted, shoving a microphone in the poor gingers face.

Katy smiled uncomfortably, pushing it away, "Yeah I guess, I've made plenty of friends in glee club, Rachel, Britt, Mike, Quinn but I thought it was really time to make more friends so I decided to sign up!"

"well, you'll have more boys throwing themselves at you than ever, you finally ready to throw that skirt off and loose the big v?" Jacob questioned, very interested.

"No! And even if it was it wouldn't be yours or your viewers business, and the only reason they're 'throwing themselves at me' is because I'm Puck's sister, they want to be able to say 'I've slept with Puckerman's sister' and I'm not just a prize to throw around, I want to love someone who cares about me for me. end of." Katy replied with every bit of attitude she could muster, being the shy girl she is, she's not the best at standing her ground. That's where her brother took charge.

"What are your plans for glee this year? still Berry's number one fan?" he continued, having to jog to keep up with the girl, who was now almost running to relive herself from the questions.

"Yep. I love the girl, yes she annoying and self centered at times but I see the best in her, she has her moments but she's my best friend. But I really must be going, I have class" Katy replied, with a fake smile, pulling her wrist out of his grasp.

"Just a few more questions! Katy! Katy!Ka..!"

"Hey, I don't think she wants to talk to you anymore man, leave her alone," JBI was interrupted by a cute blonde boy with a rather large mouth as he'd watched Katy, amused, trying to escape the jewfro as politely as possible.

Eventually, when JBI gave up, she turned to the blondie, and examined his features. He was very very attractive and Katy could feel herself blushing slightly as she gazed into his green eyes.

"Thanks, that meant a lot," she smiled sincerely.

"You're welcome, you looked panicked so I thought I'd give you a hand... not that you couldn't handle it, no not that, I just wanted to help, sorry" he rambled on, his face growing redder with every word.

"No, no it's fine, lovely actually, I'm Katy by the way, Katy Puckerman" Katy smiled, sticking out her hand for him to shake.

"The name's Evans, Sam Evans" Sam replied, putting on a Daniel Craig impression, which Katy giggled at, recognising it immediately.

Grinning back at him, she hugged her binder closer to her chest, licking her lips slightly, "well Sam Evans, I've got class now, hope to see you around!"

"yeah, I hope so!" Sam smiled back as they both went their separate ways and as she walked away, Katy felt his eyes on her and sighed giddily, seriously hoping that she'd bump into this blonde boy again.

"SO, HOW DO I LOOK?" Katy laughed, modelling her new york city tshirt for Rachel and Finn.

"Amazing! almost as good as when you dressed up as Candace from Phineas and Ferb for halloween" Rachel giggled with her friend.

"I mean I look cool" Finn pouted, folding his arms across his chest, "dont diss the T-shirt's baby Puckerman!"

Katy rolled her eyes and ran over to Brittany and Santana who were getting ready to perform.

"hey girl we were just wondering whether this of all Mr Schue's plans is going to work," Santana filled her in, passing her Brittany's cherry chapstick, which she liked to share.

"I dunno, I mean we sound amazing, we just need people to believe we're cool" Katy shrugged, not totally convinced herself that her and the glee club were 'cool' because that's not what she personally thought mattered.

"hard to be cool with these outfits though!" Brittany smiled, pulling Katy in for her side hug.

"very true, Rachel and I were just comparing them to my halloween costume"

"the resemblance was uncanny!" Brittany laughed.

"mom! phineas and ferb are making a title sequence!" Katy imitated Candace, making Santana laugh out loud.

"come on girls, were ready to go!" Quinn suddenly came from nowhere, grabbed Katy's hand and pulled her to her starting position.

[SONG- EMPIRE STATE OF MIND, SANG BY THE NEW DIRECTIONS]

The team stood defeated on the stairs of the courtyard as no one in sight was clapping. That was until Katy made eye contact with the blondie from earlier, Sam. He smiled at her, instantly giving her a small wave, which she happily returned until she was pounced on by one Finn Hudson.

"you know him?" He asked, persistently.

"jeez you scared me Finnocence! And yeah, I know him, he's the new kid, Sam, he got me out of shit with jewfro this morning." Katy replied, her hand on her heart out of fear after being ambushed by an enthusiastic Finn, "well he was tapping his foot! He has to join!"

"He's not going to want to join yet, he's new, he's already bottom of the social hierarchy, why would he want to go any lower?" Katy stuck up for the boy, though amused by Finn!: excited antics.

"Ah but guess what I have to offer him?"

"What's that then?"

"To be best friends with the quarterback, that's me! and if that doesn't work, you're clearly interested in him so a very pretty girlfriend!" Finn smirked, running away before Katy could retort.

Widening her eyes in embarrassment, Katy looked around to make sure that nobody heard his comment, "hey! don't I get a say in this?" She shouted after him, shaking her head as the giant leapt off to talk to the unsuspecting new boy.

KATY WAS JUST WALKING TO HER LOCKER, MINDING HER OWN BUSINESS, when she was grabbed by the arm and pulled into the choir room.

"Finn, I swear to god how many times do you have to terrify me today?" she shouted, giving the tall boy a small snack on the arm.

"This is a glee boys and Katy meeting, sit down!" Finn instructed pointing at a chair between Mike and her brother.

Katy did what she was told, not really understanding why until she looked up and her hazel eyes met Sam's wide green ones.

"oh hi Sam!" she waved shyly.

"hey," he replied, equally shy.

"you know him?" Puck asked her quietly,

"yeah he got me out of shit with JBI yesterday. he's nice," Katy whispered back.

Smiling to himself, Puck nodded, approvingly, "I like him already!" He muttered, impressed that the boy had taken an interest in his sister's happiness.

"so Sam, tell us about yourself," Finn said, trying to get to know the new kid,

"My name's Sam Evans, I like comic books, sports, I'm dyslexic so my grades arent that good, but I'm working on it," he told them, a hint of nervousness in his voice, making Katy nod and smile at him to go on.

Gaping at Sam's face, Puck couldn't hold in his comments as he stared right at Sam's rather large mouth, "Dude your mouth is huge how many tennis balls can you fit in there?"

"I don't know, ive never had any balls in your mouth, have you?" Sam retorted, making Katy beam enthusiastically at him with pure appreciation, as the boys turned to see Puck's reaction, which once again, was impressed.

"I like this kid," Finn said under his breath to Artie.

"I like his confidence," Artie replied, positively, "but the Bieber cut's got to go."

"no!" Katy replied, a little too loudly, flushing bright red as Puck and Mike began to laugh.

"So can you sing with that big mouth?" Puck asked as they got up from their chairs, Finn walking to the drums after handing Sam his guitar and Puck grabbing his guitar.

Sam bit onto his lip slightly, "uh, I've never really sung in front of anyone before." He admitted.

"That's okay," Katy smiled comfortingly,
"you'll be great,"

"dude, let me tell you, chicks dig singers," Puck encouraged, making all eyes turn to Katy, the only 'chick' in the room.

Shyly, she tucked a piece of stray hair behind her ear, "I mean he's not wrong," she mumbled, looking anywhere but Sam's eyes out of embarrassment, "the only attractive thing about my brother here is his voice," she added, giving him a playful shove.

"well give it a shot, we'll back you up i promise," Finn smiled at Sam, giving him a boost of confidence, "what song do you have in your back pocket?"

Sam thought for a moment, mentally preparing himself, "uhh... billionaire?" he asked, almost to seek approval,

"oh I love that song!" Katy squealed, excitedly as Finn nodded his head at him and got ready to play the drums. Sam
just smiled at her, looking her up and down slightly with a whimsical look upon his face.

[SONG- BILLIONAIRE, SUNG BY SAM AND ARTIE]

It was obvious to Katy that Sam gained more and more confidence as he got further into the song. She danced around with Mike happily, just enjoying the moment occasionally oooing and ahhing to add to the performance. Once the song ended, Sam beamed, clearly happy with how the song went, "that was really cool!" he gushed.

"yeah it was!" Katy added, smiling widely at him.

"nice, so you think you could do that tomorrow for everyone?" Finn asked,

"sure!" Sam smiled, as the rest of the room celebrated, "but I have history class with now so I've got to go, sorry, thanks for the song!"

Sam picked up his belongings, quickly looking back at the smiling group and left, with a further spring in his step.

"he was amazing!" Artie exclaimed, high fiving Mike and Katy as they jumped around, hugging onto each other.

"yeah, he'll be a great addition to glee club," Puck added.

"he's adorable," Katy sighed, getting herself a pat on the back by Finn, L"wait, did he say history class?" she added with a total change in mood.

"yeah..." Mike said, confused,

"I'm in that class!" she exclaimed, tripping out of Mike's arms and sprinting out of the room whilst the boys laughed at her as she called after Sam, hoping to catch up with him before he got to class.

THE CLOCK ON THE CHOIR ROOM WALL TICKED QUIETLY AS THE GLEE CLUB WATCHED IT INTENSELY. Waiting for new auditions, Katy was sat on the floor, quietly playing with her cheerios skirt, pouting at herself hopelessly as no one arrived.

All of a sudden Rachel jumped up, "I hate to break it to you all, but it doesn't look like anyone will be joining us, we should just call it a day," she quickly grabbed her bag and made a beeline for the door.

"Rachel we said three to five, they've still got two minutes," Mr Schue said desperately, hoping to spur some encouragement as the club seemed to agree with Rachel for once, picking up their stuff.

Frowning, Finn was the only one to agree with Mr Schue, "but my buddy Sam's gonna join! He totally idolizes me."

Clearly annoyed, Kurt rolled his eyes as he slung his bag over his shoulder, "oh give it up Finn! you're not the quarterback any more, people aren't going to follow you like a pied piper anymore!"

"anyway, I told you Finn, he's new, he needs to settle in first, if he's going to join he'll join when he's ready," Katy reiterated, though she herself was slightly disappointed that Sam didn't show.

Sensing her disappointment and offering her a hand, Puck practically lifted his disheartened sister from the ground, putting an arm around her, "come on, we'll get mcdonalds on the way home," he smiled gently, making Katy cheer up almost instantly.

"REALLY RACHEL? OH MY GOD, THATS LOW!" Katy exclaimed, shaking her head madly, in complete shock at her best friend's actions.

Rachel Barbra Berry had sent Sunshine Corazon to a crackhouse.

"It wasn't an active crackhouse! and it wasn't malicious I promise!" Rachel begged, desperately trying to make sure she didn't loose her one true friend.

"Rach, that doesn't make it any better! she must've been terrified poor girl!" Katy sighed, disappointed.

"I know, I know," Rachel said quietly hugging her books to her chest.

Sternly, pursing her lips, Katy shook her head, ready to lecture the girl on all the things she'd just done wrong, whilst still making sure she knew that she'd always have a friend in her, "just why a crackhouse? she could've been seriously hurt, and then you would've had to face real consequences, and I don't want to loose my best friend,"

"im not proud of this," she sighed, rubbing her hands through her hair.

"you shouldn't be!"

"I just.." rachel started only to be cut off by Katy who knew exactly what she was going to say, "no you weren't Rachel, you were doing it for you. Lying about your reasonings makes it one hundred times worse, you owe it to yourself, Sunshine and the rest of the team to tell the truth,"

Rachel was clearly embarrassed, she knew it was wrong and loosing friends was going to be the cost, she knew it, not that many of the new directions would consider her a friend anyway.

"I'm really sorry, you're right, I wasn't thinking straight," she mumbled, embarrassed.

"just don't send me to a crackhouse okay?" Katy laughed a little, pulling Rachel in for a hug.

"never! you're too adorable!" Rachel replied, smiling. "now I need to compose myself before I apologise, okay?"

"alright, remember what I said! I love you!" she called after her, as she ran off to the auditorium for some alone time, probably to sing some dramatic emotional ballad.

Moments later, Finn collided into her, making her almost fall on her face,
"Finn! how many times! I'm clumsy enough as it is!" Katy shouted, as Finn rubbed the back of his neck guiltily.

"sorry but have you spoken to Sam yet?"

Katy shook her head, "nope, I mean we've said hi and all that plenty of times but we've not talked about the auditions, why don't you ask him?"

"why don't you ask him why he took my position as quarterback?" Finn said making Katy stop in her tracks,

"wait what? that's amazing!" she said until she got a disapproving look from the former quarterback, and she realised what she said, eyes wide, "that's not what I meant, I mean it's great for him, not so great for you, sorry, what happened?" she sympathised. Finn was like an older brother to her, being her brothers best friend meant they were close in a sort of siblings way. Finn, like Puck was very protective of Katy and Katy was always on hand to give Finn help with schoolwork and Rachel knowledge or even just to talk about how they were feeling.

"Well Artie and I told Coach Beiste our plan to get him on the team and she totally freaked, thinking I was joking, making fun of her, then I called her dude by accident," Finn explained, disheartened.

Shrugging her shoulders, Katy stood up for the new coach, "well some girls don't like being called dude by guys,but then again kicking you off the team is a bit harsh, you were one of the best players!"

Leaning back against the lockers, Finn shook his head in disbelief, "Im just so pissed off, I'm just another glee loser now,"

"And what's wrong with that? glee's great!" Katy retorted gently, trying to make him feel better.

"you say that but you're in a cheerios uniform," finn teased, making katy roll her eyes.

"well at least I'm not a bitchy cheerio, I joined the cheerios because it looks fun and I might make some friends, not because I want to be queen bitch, banging people left,right and centre, I'm actually really good at it!"

"what banging people?" Finn laughed teasingly, earning himself a slap on the arm.

"No..." she replied slowly, "cheer, I'm pretty flexible and I'm trying out to be a flyer next practice, Coach Sue loves me,"

"oh yeah? that's great!" Finn grinned, "im proud of you Kat."

"I'm just glad Tana's not too salty with me, I think she's a bit upset that Sue's taken such a liking to me so quickly after being dropped from captain," Katy bit her lip nervously, glancing over at the Latina who was admiring herself in her locker mirror as she put lipgloss on.

"Nah she's just upset that she was demoted," Finn reassured her.

Crossing her fingers, Katy let out a deep breathe of air, "I hope so. This is gonna be a good year, I can feel it," she added making slight eye contact with Sam, who gave her a small smile.

Suddenly, she found herself covered in red dye number six and ice as Karofsky had thrown a slushy at her, laughing heartily, "the uniform won't stop you being a loser Baby Puckerman!"

"Hey!" Finn started calling after him angrily, but was stopped by Katy putting a hand on his arm.

"it's fine Finn, a waste of a perfectly good slushy but fine," she smiled, wiping her eyes as Tina and Brittany ran over immediately ready to help the redhead with Artie rolling behind.

"you're the only person I know who'd be more disappointed because they've wasted a slushy throwing it on you than actually being slushied. Damn, I love you girl" he laughed sympathetically as Tina and Brittany lead her into the girls bathroom leaving Artie, Finn and Sam, who'd watched the incident from his locker, glaring after Karofsky for slushying their girl.
