Third Person

it's finally graduation day and all of the seniors are getting lined up inside the school hallway before having to travel outside, while their family and friends all get seated waiting for the ceremony to begin.

"holy shit guys we're graduating" evelyn said.

"yeah ev we know" brinnley laughed.

"dude we're going out into the real world after this holy shit" evelyn realized.

"babe first of all, you've been saying holy shit all day so let's chill for a minute" kate suggested. "and second we're going to college so we still have four more years of school"

"not me bitches" brinnley twirled around.

evelyn groaned, "why did i decide to go again?"

"because you're the one who wanted the college experience"

"i heavily regret that decision now" evelyn pouted as kate and brinnley rolled their eyes.

"hey brinn can we talk for a second?" ashton came up to her shyly.

"uh sure" brinnley reluctantly agreed at the dismay of her two friends. the pair walked out of line of seniors, which wasn't even fully a line since the teachers were having a difficult time lining them all up.

"so what's up?" brinnley asked him.

"i wanted to say sorry for how i've acted all year, i know i've been an asshole, and i know it's kind of a asshole move to apologize during graduation, but i just wanted you to know i really am sorry" ashton told her.

"well i accept your apology, i don't want to hold any grudges i mean we're graduating so i'd just like to let go of everything" brinnley smiled. "and the fact that you can apologize for everything says a lot"

ashton nodded, "i'm so glad, good luck with everything brinnley, and i'm happy for you and zach- he honestly seems like a great guy"

"you've hated him all year..." brinnley trailed off in slight confusion.

"only because i was jealous of him" ashton shrugged. "he didn't deserve any of that"

"i'll make sure to let him know" brinnley laughed. "i guess i'll see you later then"

"see you around brinn" ashton nodded as he walked away back to his spot in line.

"what was that about?" kate asked the girl as she walked over to them.

"he apologized"

"what? really?" evelyn's eyes widened as brinnley nodded. "woah..."

"yeah i know" brinnley agreed.

the graduation finished after a long few hours and everyone was at brinnley's celebrating in her backyard as her parents cooked.

"i'm so proud of you girls" liz said happily.

"i'm so happy for you three, i can't wait for everything" evelyn's mom, annalise, told them.

"thank you, i'm really happy to be out of high school though" brinnley laughed.

"yeah yeah no need to rub it in brinn" jess rolled her eyes.

"school isn't even that bad jess you'll live" zach voiced.

"YOU have no place to talk here sir you dropped out" jess argued.

"that is a very good point" zach nodded as he folded his lips into a line.

"hey can i talk to you for a second?" brinnley asked the boy causing him to nod. she pulled him off into the house since everyone was outside and she wanted to talk in private.

"so what's up?" zach asked.

"okay so i need you to just stand here and let me get everything i need to say out and then you can talk at the end okay" brinnley said as zach nodded not saying a word. "see that is why i love you- damnit"

zach's eyes widened, "yeah i know you said no talking but...what the fuck did you just say"

"ugh that is not how i was supposed to say it, i mean yeah i was just about to tell you but i had this whole speech thingy prepared but you just had to be all cute and compliant with my stay quiet request that it slipped out" brinnley complained.

"uh huh i got that when you said 'that is why i love you damnit' i'm more focused on the fact that you just said that you love me"

"oh well, i do love you, i just planned on saying it differently" brinnley shrugged.

"i can't believe you said it though" zach said in shock. "i thought i was going to have to wait a really long time for those words, and i was willing to do so"

"see that's another reason as to why i love you" brinnley said. "you're so patient with me when it comes to these things in our relationship"

"because before me, you weren't allowed to have that time to figure things out for yourself and i just want to make sure you do"

"i love you, like more than anything"

"and i love you but you already knew that" zach smiled as he gave her a kiss that had them both smiling wide. they were both unbelievably happy, all thanks to the best mistake zach had ever made.
