"I dream of you"
A year later
King Christian walked Caroline back to the castle in silence. Joining her in her daily walks to get away before Queen Kallista made another ridiculous order.
Over a year ago, Lucy and Draco were banished to the outlands, making a depressed Christian grow close with an upset Caroline. Queen Kallista took over the vampire kingdom after her children's departure. No one said a word about this. Partly because if she could send her own children away, no one wanted to be on her bad side. And because tomorrow Caroline was finally going to be wed to Stefan and take over as queen.
Oliver was coming back from Paris tomorrow just in time for the wedding. He left shortly after Draco did. Damon and Elena would carriage ride in from the werewolf kingdom, something they took over after they married and Queen Kallista decided to stay at Forbes Castle.
Caroline had really been alone all year. Everyone left so quickly. Her mother died, her father died, her love was sent away, and her friends left. All she really had was the fatherly relationship with King Christian.
"Are you ready for tomorrow?" He asked, as they walked up the elegant stairs.
"Yes, a wedding is supposed to be the happiest day in a girls life." She felt like she was lying.
"I'm sure it will be." Christian smiled lightly, also lying.
As they continued to walk a question popped into her mind. "King Christian, may I ask you something?"
"Of course."
"Would you mind- I mean everything with my father and- I was hoping if you could accompany me down the aisle." She stammered nervously.
His face lit up. "I'd be honored to, Princess Caroline."
After more light conversation, he bid her goodbye and she walked to her room. Stefan came out of the bathroom at that moment and he smiled to her.
"Hey, Care."
"Hello, Stefan. I was wondering if I could talk to you about something." She sat down on the bed.
"Go ahead." He looked in the mirror to brush his hair.
"I'm having some concerns...about the wedding. Do you think we're moving too fast?"
He dropped his brush and turned around. "What do you mean?"
"I'm just having cold feet I think-"
"Well don't." He got closer to her. "We're getting married tomorrow, and then we'll get crowned and I can be king." He towered above her. "And you'll be queen. Is that not what you want?"
She swallowed nervously. "Of course it is. I just-"
"Perfect. Then this discussion is done?" He smiled as if nothing happened, and walked away.
She sat on her bed and let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. Caroline looked to the window to calm herself and saw Oliver with his arm up, a rock in hand, and Bonnie right next to him.
"Were you about to throw a rock through my window?" She called to him.
"Hey, Cece!" He waved, dropping his rock.
"I told you the window was open." Bonnie said to him.
Caroline giggled and disappeared from the window, basically vampire speeding outside to her friends.
"You guys are early." She group hugged them both.
"We figured we'd surprise you."
"Surprise!" Bonnie smiled, showcasing her hand.
"Bonnie Bennett!" Caroline smiled widely at the girls engagement ring.
"I know I know. I couldn't wait any longer to tell you. Enzo proposed a couple weeks ago."
"I'm so happy for you." Caroline hugged the girl, a tiny thought about Lucy in the back of her mind.
"Thank you! I'm really excited, he makes me so happy." Bonnie said, minding Oliver.
Oliver smiled to them, his eyes laced with sadness. Caroline pulled back from Bonnie and recounted her moment with Stefan. Did he make her happy?
"He better. Or else a vampire duel would take place. You just say the word." Oliver joked.
Bonnie laughed and Caroline felt a lightbulb over her head. "I have an insane idea that might get us killed."
"Go on." Oliver said.
"Let's go to the outlands and get Draco and Lucy back."
