It was not over.
The new world will never be the same world if people like Negan were still breathing. Still existing and won't cease. The things that had happened is only the start of what could come. These next few weeks will determine our entire future, and will impact on the outcome of how we will choose to live.
Almost two weeks has passed since the Saviours fled from Alexandria. Its given us the time to bury our residents and friends. Sasha.
Also to plan our retaliation. There was a lot that could go wrong. Things can always go wrong. But it has never stopped us in the past. And it never will.
I couldn't help but shiver. A few days after the attack I couldn't help but feel off. Mentally, and physically.
Head felt dizzy, hands were shaky, stomach felt queezy.
But I couldn't be feeling like that right now. We had hope to grasp onto. But I couldn't shake it off.
As we were gathered in a field, the morning of our proposal assault on the Sanctuary, Rick was giving our a speech. Everyone cheered at his words.
"You up to this?" Rick asked Maggie tentatively.
Maggie sighed and nodded. "I got Hilltop to stand against the Saviours. I gotta be here. At least for the first part." She smiled a little. "They say you can wage war through the second trimester."
"I'm sure when the small dude is born he's gonna be a ninja with all this fighting you're doing." I smirked and she chuckled.
It felt difficult to catch onto humour within the situation. It felt guilty to try to be happy when you're going to fight.
I couldn't tell if it was guilt, or something else that was lurking in the pit of my stomach that was making me feel uneasy. I anxiously gripped the strap of my rifle to calm to feeling.
"You okay Lils?" Maggie asked me and nudged me softly. "You don't have to do this either."
"Oh, yeah I'm fine." I forced out. "Just feeling weird that's all." I shrugged it off.
"Get enough rest? I could barely sleep a wink last night." She asked.
"I'm fine. Nerves." I gripped my strap.
"I get it, I've been fighting since the farm. I can't stop now anyways." Maggie nodded.
"How about tomorrow?" Rick spoke up.
Maggies eyes moved to the lining of the trees, a wistful smile creeped to her lips. "You been thinking about what it looks like?"
"Yes, I have. I don't know if I can wait for it."
"Just one more fight. And I'm gonna be there." Maggie assured him. "At least for the first part."
When the small group disbanded, I remained by Rick's side. I was coming with him to then later on meet with my dad. "Are you really gonna do it?"
"Do what?"
I looked up. "Kill him."
He nodded slowly. "Yea, I am."
"Promise me, uncle Rick. Promise you will." My words were desperate.
I wanted this to be done, everyone did. This endless pain and worry wouldn't go unless Negan was to be put down. It was now or never. If another gun touched my fingertips and he wasn't gone then I'll do it for him.
"I promise." He put his hands on my shoulders comfortingly. "I will. This will all end when I do it."
The drive to the Sanctuary was quiet, nerve-wracking, scary. All I could do was look out the passenger side window and hope for the best.
"You're very quiet today." Rick pointed out but his eyes still on the road. "What's up Lils?"
"All I can do is think of the worse. I can't help it." I bounce my leg.
"This is gonna work. We're gonna win."
"I hope so. Just wish my dad was here." I shook my head and looked forwards.
"We're meeting up with him. You know the plan." He promised.
"Yeah."
The car was armoured with sheets of scrap metal for cover, small holes filled through for a rifle but not large enough to hurt anyone.
I stood beside Rick. We followed Maggie's signal, she raised her hand. Every gun raised into the air, she brought her hand down. Every gunman fired three shots. The Sanctuary has visitors.
"Well, shit!" Negan's voice boomed, the man himself walked outside to the railings. My chest felt even more tightened that previously at the sight of him. Running wasn't an option anymore. I closed my eyes and breathed slowly. "I'm sorry. I was in a meeting." His arrogance shined.
He threw Lucille over his shoulder and admired our set up. "I see you've got your little mudflaps with you. So I'm not exactly feeling a reason for us to try throwing lead at each other. I care about my people. I don't want to just march them into the line if fire because I wanna play 'my rock is bigger than yours'."
I dropped my head for a second. His voice was echoing, I was trying desperately to swallow the feeling of bile but nothing was really there. I was tired, so very tired.
"But I'm also comfortable enough to accept that fact that if it wasn't. I'm certainly not gonna let my people die over that shit, like you're about to."
"So Rick, what the hell can I do for you?" Negan finally asked.
"Dwight. Your name's Simon." Rick tilted his head and pointed between the metal shields to identify who he's talking to. "You're Gavin. And you?"
"Regina." The unfamiliar woman said.
"Rick, I'd feel remiss if-" Eugene began.
"No!" Rick shouted to cut him off. "We know who you are."
Negan's long chain of arrogance in everything he did and said dragged on, and continued to as he spoke. "Simon."
Simon disappeared into the doorway and returned by pushing Gregory out by his collar.
I bit down hard on my lower lip and inhaled frustratedly. Maggie was mad, madder than I had ever seen her before, more than was she looked into Negan's eyes.
"What a surprise." I muttered.
"What do you have to say to Rick and the Piss Patrol, Gregg?" Negan put his arm around his shoulders and patted him.
"The Hilltop stands with Negan and the Saviours!" Gregory called out, puffing his chest with confidence. "Any resident of Hilltop who takes up arms or supports them in this ultimatum, will no longer be welcome to the colony."
"And?" Negan nodded proudly and forced him to continue.
"Their families will also be throw out and left to fend for themselves. Go home now, or you won't have a home to come back to."
Everyone stayed still, like statues. Hilltop residents kept their spot firmly on the ground. Faces full of determination and bravery. Maggie looked around in pride.
"You heard the man." Negan prompted. "Go back to separating wheat and shit."
Maggie called out from behind the barricades. "It doesn't look like anyone's going, does it?"
Gregory started to get nervous. "Hilltop stands with-"
"HILLTOP STANDS WITH MAGGIE!" Jesus shouted out.
A grin tugged on my lips, nervous but proud. I stole a glance towards Maggie who looked proud. In the next moment Simon was shoving Gregory down the Sanctuary steps and hit the ground with a groan.
There was then a loud explosion in the distance, I looked over my shoulder to see a thick smoke cloud rise into the sky about a mile away.
"You Lieutenants." Rick called out to the henchmen surrounding Negan. "You're gonna have to make up your minds. Surrender now and you can get away with your lives, but this is the only time I can promise that."
Gaven raised and extended his hands. "Maybe we can take a timeout here."
"No! This has to happen now. This is the only way."
Finally, Megan's smile faltered. Negan stared angrily at the army, the corners of his mouth pointing down with rage. His eyes cold, brows furrowed.
"You're gonna make me count?" Rick chuckled and tilted his head. "Okay. Ten!"
I grabbed my rifle.
"Nine!"
I mounted my gun on one of the cars and got ready to aim. Negan had a cocky grin, not intimidated at all. But he will be
"Eight!"
Aimed.
"Seven!"
I fired, and so did everyone else too. All hell broke loose and everyone started pressing their triggers everywhere.
Rapid weapons fired and buzzed in unison. Windows were shattering, bullets puncturing the ground.
Everyone took out the snipers that were hiding in the windows, after blowing them out everyone dived into their cars and blared their horns, making as much noise to draw the walkers in. Gabriel had the RV moving, filled with explosives to destroy the fence. As soon as we gave the signal, he blew it and the impact rattled the car I was sat in.
Rick entered the drivers side after he was forced not to instantly go after Negan. Slamming his foot down on the gas and we made it out just in time for the herd to arrive. Gabriel was suppose to follow us but when I went it check..his car wasn't there.
We stopped at a grove a few miles away and parked, we waited. Dad met up with us, I immediately hugged him when I saw him.
"You good?" He quickly asked while checking over me.
"That was awesome! He looked like he was about to shit himself!"
Time passed, we were stuck waiting or looking at the smoke coming from the Sanctuary in the distance.
"We can wait some more." Daryl offered.
"We can't. We gotta start." Rick shook his head.
This new loss of Gabriel just added more pressure onto all of us. But we all had to live and relax with it. A lot more people are going to get hurt before this finishes.
"You alright?" Dad asked Rick.
He just chuckled and squinted his eyes. "This isn't about me. Let's go."
