"That was one of the worst sleeps I've had since sleeping in a tent in Atlanta." I groan and stretch when I finally get enough energy to speak.
"The tents were much more comfy than this, right?" Carl mumbled and started to get up.
"You still coming to Hilltop?" I asked timidly, I didn't want to force him to come. Afterall, if Rick found out we would be going without telling him then we'd be in trouble, and after everything that has being going on..the last thing we need is an argument.
"Of course," He nodded. "My dad has gone scavenging I think, I overheard him this morning, you were sleep still."
I hummed in response and started to get up. Grabbing a fresh pair of clothes out my draw, that thankfully didn't get touched yesterday. I decided to wear one of my favourite hats, that held one of my favourite memories.
Glenn picked it out for me once, a while back. I used to always steal his hat whenever I got the chance, ubtill eventually he got me my own so I wouldn't take his. It was a lovely thought, for him to go out of his way to get me something to be a happy and also a reminder of him now. I'll cherish it. It was a black, leather material bucket hat, that was well fitting and didn't bother me at all. It'd be safe to say to call it my lucky hat.
I placed it on my head and collected my stuff. I'm so glad they saviours didn't steal my bow, I wasn't sure whether I should bring it or not. But I eventually decided to take it with me just incase, so I slung it on my back and Carl and I went downstairs after he had finished getting ready.
We went outside and quickly down the porch steps, Rick wasn't here to stop us luckily for us. I felt Carl's hand brush against mine, without hesitation I held onto it and his hand relaxed in mine. We made our way to the main gates in hand until stopped by someone from the tower.
"Where are you two headed?" Eugene asked, since he was on shift for now. I nodded to the gate and I opened it before responding. "Out." I stated and opened the gate with Carl's help.
"Stay safe." He said and went back to doing whatever he was doing, and we walked through it to go on our journey.
After a bit of silent walking Carl perked up. "Should we have taken a car?" Carl asked as we walked along the road. I scoff a little bit. "With your driving? Nah." I reply and he chuckles. "My driving isn't that bad."
"Sure." I falsely agree and he acts faked shocked and slapped his hand over his heart. "I'm offended." He gasps.
"As you should." I decreed with a chuckled and he then stopped walking to grab onto my hand. "C'mere." He muttered and leant in, with me doing the same. Right as our lips interlocked, a growl of a walker came from behind us and I groaned.
"Off to Hilltop we go." I sighed and shot the walker quickly with my arrow.
After a long while of walking we made it closer to Hillop. We went around the back, through the back road that led to the gates that was only a short distance away.
Once we got to the clearing within the woods we saw the narrow dirt road that lead to the back side of the walls of Hilltop. When taking in our surroundings, the next this I saw was large trucks and cars behind the gates, but no sign of Saviours.
"Saviours?" Carl questioned and I nodded. "Yeah, but they're not in the trucks.." I explained. "So that means.."
"We can get in." Carl stated. "Sneak in the trucks, they'll take us to Negan. We can end this before it starts."
"Carl, everything has already started. I mean look, they're here." I briefly said but he shook his head.
"Hide in the truck that has all our guns, use them to take them out." He explained his plan. "It'll work. Trust me?"
I nodded after a short time of thinking. I take my bow off my back and grabbed an arrow to load it just incase. "Let's do it."
Keeping an eye on the trucks, we sneaked up the hill together and crouched near the back wall. "That truck there.." I whispered and pointed to an open trucks with the crates of guns and ammo inside.
We snuck towards the back of it, Carl opened the top and I stepped from the dugout and climber into the back of the van. I helped Carl into it too.
"I'll use my bow, I'm a better shot with it." I said ad Carl grabbed a gun from one of the crates. "You sure? You won't be able to kill as many?" He asked.
I nodded firmly, and I went deeper into the van and sat down behind a box. Just incase a saviour came in I could hide and Carl did the same. We waited almost an hour in silence, Negan's men soon came to the trucks and loaded everything after previously wiping Hilltop of their stuff, including their ammo as they came inside the van to fill it up but they never spotted us thankfully.
When the van went on its way, I tried my best to memorise each twist and turn it made just incase we needed to get out of a nasty situation. After all the back of the van wasn't shut properly so if we were safe enough it was possible for us to jump out.
Silence devoured the vehicle until it was disrupted by the sound of someone jumping into the back of the truck. My eyes widened as I looked at Carl, I sneakily turned my head around the corner and say that it was.. Paul.
"Hey." Carl called out, and he quickly turned his head to where Carl and I were both crouched.
"Hey Jesus." I said but he just stared a Carl with a worried expression, but at the same time he kept pouring wine out the back of the van for some reason. "What are you guys doing? This isn't a cab."
"I could ask you the same thing?" I retorted and he chuckled before opening a bottle of syrup and pouting it out too. I tilted my head at it win confusion and he caught on.
"Trail maker." He described. "We should bail out, follow the rest of the way, see what we can see." Jesus though out loud and looked outside the truck. "I-uh how?" Carl asked.
"It isn't usually the fall that gets us. It's trying to fight it. Run with it or roll with it. The truck is going slow enough, we'll be in the blind spot. We can race behind one of the other cars." He explained his plan, but that wasn't our plan. We want to go to where Negan lives.
"If-If I screw up and we get caught." Carl stuttered. "It'll be fine." Jesus reassured. "We just got to go now."
"Care to give a demonstration first?" I asked. Jesus nodded and swiftly jumped out and rolled onto the ground. I went over to the edge to see if he was okay. When I was positive he was, I waved goodbye to him and stepped back.
We hid the rest of the way in silence whilst staring out the back of the truck, until the growls of walkers filled our ears which automatically told us we were here..and drove through the gate.
"Stay behind me, follow my lead." Carl ordered and I nodded, getting my bow ready and loaded multiple arrows in one so I can make more damage.
The truck finally came to a stop, the voice of Negan was heard from outside. "Okay boys, let's get this haul unloaded and inside. I'd like to get back in there and unload a little myself." I saw him walk past the back of the truck and my breath hitched.
I zoned out of their conversation, and grasped my bow firmly. A huddle of people walked to the back of the truck which made me crouch down a little more so they couldn't see me.
Two of them clambered in and entered to unload the supplies, after one of the insides of the boxes spilled (thank you Jesus) one of the saviours was directly faced with the two of us. "What the hell?" He exclaimed before Carl shot him, and I immediately shot the other guy next to him in the head, and the other two arrows flew outside to the other Saviours and they dropped to the floor also.
"Stay back! Drop your weapons!" Carl's voice demanded. "We only want Negan. He killed our friends. No one else needs to die."
The familiar low, two-noted whistle accompanied Negan's arrival towards us, I was quick to reload and aim my weapon at him. "Damn." Negan chuckled. "You are just adorable aren't you little dixon? You brought your boy toy too!" He pointed at me with a grin before directing his attention to Carl. "Did you pick that gun 'cause it looks cool? You totally did, right? Or was it to be impressive to your girlfriend. Kid, I ain't gonna lie, you scare the shit outta me."
Carl started to fire shots again and a Saviour tackled him to the ground as Dwight disarmed me, kicking the back of my legs and I stumble onto my knees. He kept his hold over me and twisted my arms behind me and kicked my bow away before I could reach it. "Try anything or I'll treat you how I treat your pathetic father." I whispered grimly, I wouldn't headbutted him and much worse then and there but I didn't want to risk Carl's life. All I could do was silently groan in pain.
"Dwight," Negan called. "Back off the Dixon."
I broke my stare with Negan and gripped my arm that was already sore from Dwight's grasp. My eyes went over to the fence where there was a bunch of walkers. I instantly regretted looked when I made eye contact with my dad.. Neither of us said or did anything to each other, we couldn't. But I could tell he was worried..and maybe even disappointed in my arrival here already.
"Come on kids, I'll show you both around." Negan spoke and offered a hand to Carl who was on the ground. "Really? You're still not gonna take my hand? You're lucky you even have a hand. Same as her daddy Daryl over here. How's the job going Daryl? Hot enough for ya? Well, it'd be tough with one arm?" He was looking over at my dad who was near the fence, he looked at me and must've realised my dad hadn't stopped looking over to me.
"You're daughter here is a firecracker huh? But she can easily explode with a little spunk, and that can turn into danger real quick! I'll help her learn." He yelled over to my dad, and I could tell my dad was angrier and even panicked from his expression." I won't hurt her. Not yet at least."
"What are you doing to him?" I interrupted and he chuckled. "You shouldn't ask me that, you should ask Dwight. He's taking care of him real well. Aren't ya Dwighty boy?" He asked and I turned my head over to Dwight, who now had my dad's crossbow in hand but aimed at me slightly.
"Yeah that's right, you don't gotta worry female Dixon." He scoffs. "He's in good hands."
Negan laughed and turned back to Carl and held out his hand again. Hesitantly, Carl took his hand and he was helped up. "Ah, smart kid. Now, you two come with me." I got up onto my feet, mostly because Dwight dragged me up and pushed me a forwards.
"Dwighty boy, why don't you grab Daryl, take him to the kitchen and do a little grub prep? New plan boys, let's burn the dead, unload the truck later. Damn, I'm not gonna have time to screw any of my wives today," looking and Dwight with an evil smirk forming. "I mean, maybe one."
Dwight dragged my dad away, and our eyes followed each other until they disappeared through the door.
"Come on." Negan said.
"What are you gonna do to us?" Carl asked and I shot him a look.
"Number one, do not shatter my image of you boy. You're badasses. You ain't scared of shit. Don't be scared of me, be like little dixon who doesn't give a crap about anything I say. It's disappointing."
"Number two, you really want to ruin the surprise?"
"Number three, boy you better shut your trap otherwise I'm sure she's gonna cut your other eye out because she's got a face of thunder. Screw you kid, seriously, screw you." Negan explained to Carl.
"Try not to get killed." I mutter to Carl as Negan's back was turned.
"You mean you?" He whispered back and I nudged him.
"God you even fight like a married couple. Let's go love birds, I wanna show you guys around." Negan said and we followed him unwillingly.
