"Aw jeez, is he even going to say yes?!" Titus whined, pacing around and sweating buckets. Accimus and Zion stared at him, seated on his bed.
His brother spoke, "are you good, dude?"
"Obviously not? He's worried his boyfriend won't say yes, which I don't get why because he's literally his boyfriendโ"
"Zion, get out," Titus shrieked. He ran two panicked hands through his hair and paced the room even more.
Judah came in, holding Justus. "Hey, what's going on?" he sang.
"What's going on is that Titus doesn't know if his boyfriend's going to say yes to be his valentine." Zion spat.
"He won't!" Titus shrieked.
"You're really dumb," Justus said, looking like he was in a different world.
Titus looked in the mirror, staring at his disheveled hair and exhausted eyes. He shook his head. "So do I go in a suit, or what?!"
His siblings exploded into laughter. "A suit?!"
Wednesday morning. Titus looked himself in the mirror feeling like he was about to go to another band concert. Whatever was left of his hair after Erath's and Accimus's haircut was still disheveled, but it looked better that way. His eyes inched down his outfit; a white, freshly ironed button down, the first buttons undone and the sleeves rolled up to his forearms, and a pair of neat black jeans. Was this good enough?
Again, Titus found himself staring in the mirror. He messed with his button up again and sighed loudly. He didn't notice his dad walk in, and tapped his foot impatiently.
"Um... Braydin," he began, "will you.. god dammit." Stumped and defeated, he backed off from the mirror and smashed his head into a wall.
Brian laughed. "Son, you're absolutely miserable. What ever happened to being strong and straightforward for the ladies?"
"Dad."
"Huh? Ohโ sorry. Maybe that's why." He joked again. Watching his son's face fall into a mask of unjust distress, he sighed, too.
The balded man walked in and set a hand on his son's shoulder. He pulled him into a side hug and guided him onto the bed.
"You know, your brother Ac had a friend he wrestled with. His name was Phil, you know him?" Titus nodded.
"You know, he put a raccoon in the toilet," Brian continued, laughing.
Titus grumbled. "Are you going to ask me how he felt? Because I don't think he felt any fear. They recorded him."
"Um..." Brian's mouth went dry, "Well, the moral is; don't feel it. He knew exactly what was going to happen to him, and, um... you know what I mean."
Then, Titus and his dad laughed until tears welled up in their eyes. Titus was ready.
