one week later...
this was the slowest week nora had ever gone through. she gained reconnection with her mom, since she had no one else to talk to. miles talked to flora. but now, kate has realized that her daughter hasn't been talking to her new friend. she starts to wonder...
"hey nor? what happened to you and miles? i thought you guys talked everyday?" noras heart picked up its speed just from hearing his name.
she missed him. it hurt even herself to admit she missed him. why should she? he's been a bitch. a horny bitch. why did she have to fall for the bad guys? waitโ noโ she wasn't falling for him. not at all. ...
"it's complicated, mom, don't worry about it." they were sitting in the living room while having their conversation.
"nora..." kate's daughter looked up at her with questioning eyes. her chin was resting in the palm of her hand. she was tired of this already. the conversation wasn't even barely beginning.
"did you and miles have like a.. thing?" nora could tell when the words escaped her mouth she was trying not to cringe.
were they? there was no clear clarification or anything but they both clearly and obviously knew they liked each other. but they didn't get together. so no.
"no! mom! why would you think that!" nora tried to seem as surprised at her mom for thinking such a thing as she could. it came out believable.
"okay! okay! sorry honey, i've just seen you talk to him. you seem like you like him. he is a cute little boy after all."
"okay, bye mom, i'm going to read." nora quickly rose up from the couch, going to go to her room.
she didn't really think she was gonna read. the now upset girl was in no mood to read. she did really want to talk to miles, but was that about to happen? no. she would be bored.
when nora was walking up the stairs, she heard miles and flora. she couldn't make out what they were doing completely, but they were singing something and doing something together.
the devils in the park! miss katie and her boyfriend are screaming in the dark...
-
nora didn't realize she fell asleep when she made it back into her room, until she woke up.
i really slept for the whole rest of the day? she thought to herself. there was no way! but it was dark outside, it wasn't before. maybe she was in a nightmare.
nora pinched herself. realistically anyone would've done this if they were dreaming. nora didn't think it would work, so she just did it for gigs. it wasn't a nightmare (or dream) anyways. she knew that.
why did nobody wake her up before time? did they just assume she wouldn't get hungry so they left her alone? the last thing nora wanted was to be alone. that's all she was for the past week. alone.
now that she was thinking about that, she sighed. she was looking up at the ceiling. nora was hungry. she couldn't cook, how could she? nobody told her what food they had, and mrs grose did all the cooking anyways.
that didn't matter. what mattered was she needed to look. it wouldn't hurt to look. it would be better to see if there was anything rather than lay in bed, wide awake, bored, and starving.
slowly, nora got out of bed and made her way downstairs to the kitchen. her body was still getting adjusted to being awake, so she took her time walking. there was no hurry anyhow.
the kitchen was darker than any other part of the house.
of course, nora thought. she couldn't even see where the light switch was.
like a blind person, nora waddled around, looking for the switch. or any switch, light source of any kind would be useful. and it was highly needed.
the hungry and desperate girl was in no mood to play hide and seek (in the dark) with a light switch. she just wanted to eat for once.
her hand glided along the walls, hoping to stop at a 'bump' in the wall.
nora was now more desperate for there to be light rather than to have food. she was hungry, yes, but as dark as it was, it wasn't welcoming. creepy.
she stopped moving her hand across that wall, and moved along to the wall on the other side. maybe it was on that side. it had to be.
nora was hearing delicate noises. the noises sounded like walking, but they were so quiet it was hard to tell what it was exactly.
these quiet confusing noises were pushing nora over the edge. now she was scared. screw the food, she needed to know what that noise was, and where the light switch was. she brought up her searching pace. where was it.
finally, she found a thin box attached to the wall, with a little lever attached to it. she mentally sighed with relief, thanking whatever just blessed her to find it.
right as she placed her fingertips on the lever, a hand was on top of hers. she jerked her hand away, which also turned on the lights. it was miles.
"i thought i heard you." he said with no expression. nora was still breathing as fast as her heart was beating, she forgot her and miles were in a quarrel.
"me? how did you know it was me? and you scared me, miles. but it's not that you care anyways..." she muttered the last part.
"it's always you. plus i can tell, by the way the ground sounds when you walk."
how can he tell there's a difference in the way people walk? and why was he observing it? how could he know? where-
"stop calculating whatever you're calculating. your look gives you away you're thinking about something. there's nothing to think about." even though what he said maybe wasn't the rudest thing, it made nora remember that she was mad at him. she forgot about wanting to eat.
"bye miles." she panicked. what should she say? obviously not that, why did she say that?
"the fuck? didn't you come down here for something?"
"yeah, i don't want it anymore." she continued walking to the stairs to go back to her room.
"why not? why are you even up this late?" he asked, following her.
"i could ask you the same thing." she mumbled.
"are you just gonna go back to sleep now?"
"why the fuck do you care so much?" she snapped, only stopping for a split second to hear his response. he didn't respond though. nora continued her journey back upstairs.
this time it was miles who stood speechless and motionless. she just told him off, the same way he did to her.
