And so, 218 trainees made it to graduation.

"Dedicate your hearts!" some dude yelled. We all put our right fist on our hearts and our other hand behind our back.

"Yes, sir!" we all yelled back, straightening our posture to look like we mean it. Well, we have to mean it.

"From this day forth, all of you who have graduated from being trainees have three options." he told us.

Firstly, the Garrison Regiment, which is responsible for wall fortification and defending the towns.

Secondly, the Survey Corps, which resolutely ventures outside the wall into Titan territory.

And lastly, the Military Police Brigade, which governs the citizens and maintains order within the Walls.

"Of course, only those that we previously announced to be ranked amongst the top ten trainees can select the third option." he reminded.

We've all made it this far. This time, we'll be the ones to devour. I stood next to Mikasa with a calm expression.

"Are you seriously passing up the Military Police Brigade, Eren?"

"But you're one of just ten people allowed to enlist."

As we, graduates, are celebrating, Thomas Wagner questions Eren's decision to join the Survey Corps as he sees it as a hopeless struggle with many lives lost.

Eren argues that the knowledge about Titans was gained at the expense of those who died and that to throw away their sacrifice would be a disgrace.

I don't disagree with him. He has a point and he's not one to be a coward. It's only natural for him to go with the Survey Corps.

"I'll...exterminate every last Titan and escape these confining walls! That's my dream. Mankind hasn't truly been defeated just yet!" Eren angrily yelled, storming out of the room.

"Oh my, there he goes again." I sighed as the three of us, Mikasa, Armin, and I ran to catch up to Eren.

When the two were ahead of me, I slowed down my pace which seemed to gain their attention.

I turned around to face Thomas Wagner. I understand his confusion and his reason to ask Eren such a thing. But...

"Open your eyes, look within. Are you satisfied with the life you're living?" I questioned. They looked at me, stunned.

(A/N: A quote from Bob Marley)

I turned around and ran to catch up with the rest of my childhood friends that I grew up with back in Shiganshina.

"Eren, what's that dream you mentioned earlier?" Armin questioned him.

I took a seat near him but not that close. Armin took a seat next to me. Mikasa sat down next to Eren, but she was a few steps up.

"Oh, it's what you told me about. Going outside instead of staying here." Eren replied.

"I'll enlist in the Survey Corps." Armin announced.

"Armin, are you sure? You're the best at academic courses and to be honest, you're not the best when it comes to physical strength." I retorted.

"I'd rather die than become a burden." Armin turned to look at me.

"I'll choose the Survey Corps too." Mikasa informed.

"Come on, you're the top of our class. Go with the Military Police Brigade!" Eren argued.

"If you enlist in the Military Police Brigade, so will I. If you enlist in the Garrison, I'll do the same. If you're not together with me, you'll die early, after all." Mikasa reminded.

"I never asked you to protect me." Eren groaned.

"I don't want to lose any more of my family." Mikasa mumbled.

"How about you, Y/n?" Mikasa asked, turning to me as I stared blankly at the ground.

"This takes me back." I muttered.

"What do you mean?" Eren asked.

"When we all decided to join the Training Corps. We all joined it and now we're all gonna join the Survey Corps." I chuckled.

"It's been a while since you laughed so genuinely." Armin smiled at me in relief.

"It has, hasn't it?" I mumbled, staring at the night sky.

We all looked up and admired the dotted night sky as the stars shone brightly.

The graduates are all motivated when suddenly lightning hits the ground outside of Wall Rose and the Colossal Titan appears.

It quickly breaks the gate leading out to Wall Maria, and the intense heat released from its body throws the graduates off the Wall.

Most can reorient themselves and latch onto the Wall, but Sasha saves Samuel, who was knocked out by falling debris, at the last minute.

Eren rallies the graduates to prepare for battle before leaping onto the Wall and confronting the Colossal Titan.

While Eren is running on top of the Wall, the Colossal Titan charges at him, destroying the upper portion of it.

Eren sees that the Titan aimed for the cannons, realizing that the gate being destroyed is not a coincidence either; the Colossal Titan is intelligent.

With his Omni-directional mobility gear, Eren rushes towards his opponent, while dodging the Titan's slow attack.

However, just as Eren is about to strike a fatal blow, the Colossal Titan releases a huge amount of hot steam, slowing Eren down.

Eren attempts to approach his target one more time, but as he tries to slash with his blades, he realizes there is no contact.

The Colossal Titan has disappeared.

The soldiers quickly begin their attempts at dealing with the Titans, not wanting to repeat the hell from five years ago.

"You recruits are fine soldiers who've managed to graduate! We anticipate your contribution to this operation!" the man yelled.

I began filling up my gas tank so that I won't run out while I'm maneuvering around the area.

While the civilians continue their evacuation, we, the recruits, are preparing to head into action.

"Armin?" I called out to the young man next to me. He seems to be trembling as he fixed up his gas tank.

Armin has a boyish face, with large hazel eyes and a small pointed nose which is always distinctly a bit red.

His blond hair is styled in a long undercut with bangs over his entire forehead.

"I-I'm fine. We'll get through this soon enough." Armin reassured. He's just saying that to avoid being a burden.

"B-But we're in a pinch now. We lack the means to quickly seal an 8-meter-tall hole at the moment." he stuttered.

"What's more, that large boulder nearby still hasn't even been dug out! Because the hole can't be sealed, this town will be abandoned." Armin shouted, his hands trembling.

"It's only a matter of time until even Wall Rose is breached! When it comes down to it, they can plunge mankind into ruins if they ever wanted to!" he panicked.

"Armin." I called out to him softly, which seemed to make him finally look at me in the eyes.

"Things are different now. We've been in this same situation before but we're different this time." I reminded, placing my hands on his.

His hands seemed to relax as I held them gently. He stared into my eyes worriedly.

"We don't have much time. Right now, all we can do is fight and survive. Panicking won't help us." I told him, helping him fix his gas tank.

"If you hate being a burden so much, then stand up and let's go. We're wasting time here." I instructed, standing up, and offering a hand for him to hold.

He looked at his gas tank and nodded. He grabbed onto my hand and I pulled him up.

"Sorry. I'm fine now." he took a deep breath before staring at me with determined eyes.

"Guys! It's the same as before. The Colossal Titan disappeared like 5 years ago. It seems to be an Intelligent Titan since it attacked the cannons!" Eren shouted.

"We have to hurry. We can't just sit here and panic. Let's go." Mikasa ushered us.

We all headed out on the field where some kind of dude will be giving us dome instructions since he's our superior.

"Now then, split up into your respective squads as you did in training! Under the command of the Garrison, you'll carry out supply support, intelligence communication, Titan clean-up, and so forth!" I believe his name is Woermann.

The Garrison's interception squad will take the vanguard section. The Training Corps will take the middle guard section. The Garrison's elite squad will take the rear guard section.

Apparently, the vanguard squad has already been wiped out. The outer gate has been breached and the Titans have invaded.

To put it simply, we're in a situation where the Armored Titan could appear at any moment and break the inner gate.

At least that's what I managed to understand from all of his yelling.

"No way."

"You're kidding me."

"If even Wall Rose falls..."

Why are you all in disbelief? Just accept it and find a way to deal with the situation and make it out alive.

"Silence! We're currently intercepting them at the vanguard section!" Captain Woermann silenced them.

Kitz Woermann is a visually tense man, with sunken eyes, and an expression of perpetual worry.

He has gold-colored eyes and a thick brown mustache that covers his upper lip.

He wears his brown hair slicked back, with it framing his face and forming a thick beard.

This defense operation consists of a single objective, to defend Wall Rose to the last until the evacuation of the residents is complete.

"Finally, though I'm sure you're all aware, fleeing before the enemy is a capital crime!" he reminded.

"Steel your will and dedicate your hearts! Dismissed!" he finally dismissed us.

"Captain!" we all yelled, doing the pose that we usually do to show that we are dedicating our hearts.

Y/n stared at the countless people quivering in fear. Some had even vomited due to the thought of getting killed.

"Hey." her soft voice demanded attention from everyone trembling. Although it was quiet, the sound of her voice demanded everyone's attention.

"What are you all doing over there? If you wanna live, then live. If you're planning to waste your hard work throwing up and cowering in fear, then..." she paused.

Everyone stared up at her. They knew her very well. They knew her as the 'Graceful Soldier', who dodges every attack gracefully.

"If you plan to just stay here and waste your time, then you can all die." she coldly said, leaving.

Even though her words were brutally harsh, they knew that she was right. They all stood up and forced themselves to deal with the mission.

๐šˆ/๐š—'๐šœ ๐™ฟ๐™พ๐š…

"Recruit Voland." I heard. I turned around and saw some random blond dude staring at me.

I'm guessing he's supposed to be my senior. Can't he see that I'm busy? What does he want?

"You've been specially assigned to the rear guard. Come with me." he demanded.

"Elaborate." I demanded as well, placing a hand on my hip. He glared at me but complied.

"Right now, with the evacuation lagging, we need as many elites near the residents as we can get." he explained.

"Fine." I finally decided to go with him. I wouldn't have gone with him if Mikasa wasn't there.

Even in the past historical records, the origin of the Titans' appearance is unknown and nearly everything mentioned is uncertain.

At present, the only facts we have on Titans are from the Survey Corps' latest reports.

It appears the Titans do not have the capacity for intelligence like humans, and hence, there has been no recorded instance of communication between our races.

The structure of a Titan's body fundamentally differs from other organisms.

They lack reproductive organs, and their method of breeding is unknown, but the majority of them have masculine features.

I mean, with faces like that, I'm surprised they're even breeding.

Their body temperatures are extremely high, and for reasons unknown, so it'd be best not to stay on them for too long.

They display absolutely no interest in any organisms other than humans. Their sole purpose is to consume humans.

But since they managed to live for 100 years without consuming humans must mean they don't have to eat humans at all.

In other words, their motive is not to prey on us, but rather to simply slaughter humans.

Also, Titans can apparently regenerate but they have a weakness, which is their nape. Slice that out and they're goners.

At least, that's what I remember from my past lessons that actually seemed helpful.

"I have a bad feeling." I shivered, clutching my stomach. I could feel some kind of swirl in it.

What's Eren and Armin's squad up to?

What happened to Eren?

What happened to Armin?

At the base of Wall Rose, a crowd of people is waiting by the gate as a merchant is unsuccessfully attempting to get his wagon load of goods into the interior.

Tempers flare as the people argue that they need to evacuate first and push a Garrison soldier to the forefront to arrest him.

However, the merchant threatens the soldier using his clout with the military higher-ups and silences the soldier before saying his goods are worth more than the lives of people or any amount of money they will ever make.

At that moment, a little girl notices an abnormal Titan running toward them, ignoring the elite soldiers following it.

Y/n glides in front of the Abnormal Titan and slices its eyes to blind it. The Titan paused for a moment to realize that its vision was now gone.

This gave Mikasa the opportunity to quickly overtake and dispatch the Abnormal Titan with little effort.

"Nice one." Y/n stands on top of the Titan's head, high-fiving Mikasa.

"What...are you doing?" Mikasa mumbled, staring ahead of her. Y/n follows her gaze to see a greedy man pushing his cart into the gate.

"Oh, perfect timing. Hey you girlies, make these people help me out! I'll reward you handsomely!" the man offered.

"Is this dude for real?" Y/n scoffed. She hated cocky people. Those who brag to others. She despised every single person with that kind of attitude.

"My comrades are dying right now. Because the evacuation is lagging, they're fighting the Titans and dying." Mikasa pointed behind her to prove her point.

"Course they are! It's your duty to dedicate your heart to protect the citizens and their property, is it not?!" the man yelled back.

"Don't get full of yourselves just because you freeloaders are finally doing your job after a 100 years!" the man shouted.

"Mikasa." Y/n called out, her eyes dulling. She hated people like them.

"Y/n." Mikasa replied back as the two jumped off of the Abnormal Titan's head.

"Move." Y/n's voice was soft and yet, everyone moved out of their way.

"If you think it's natural for people to die for others, I'm sure you'll understand that at times, the sacrifice of a single precious life can save many others." Mikasa said.

"Try me! I've known your employer for many years. You don't know how easy it'd be for me to order you, underlings, around!" he threatened.

"Oh please, as if we'd listen to a greedy pig like you." Y/n scoffed. Two men ran towards the two.

In a flash, Y/n knocked them out. Mikasa continued to approach the man.

"How can a corpse be speaking?" Mikasa threatens to execute him if it will mean the rest of the people can survive.

Y/n steps on top of the bodies of the two men who were planning on attacking them earlier.

The man backs down and as the civilians run through the gate, the little girl thanks Mikasa and Y/n.

The two young ladies glanced at each other and nodded. They put their swords back and saluted back to the little girl.

"Let's go, Mikasa." Y/n ushered, turning around. Mikasa followed after the young lady.

"Good job taking it down, Ackerman, Voland. I'm impressed." their Captain commended them.

"Thank you very much. However, I dulled my blades with a single blow in my impatience. I'll be more mindful next time." Mikasa informed.

"Let's hurry. Chit chatting won't kill the Titans, now will it?" Y/n jumped off the roof and began her search for Titans.

Mikasa followed after her, remembering an unfortunate and heartbreaking memory from the past.

"We're withdrawing, Voland, Ackerman. Climb up the wall." the person in charge commanded.

"I'll support the vanguard's withdrawal." Mikasa began to walk ahead, waiting for Y/n to follow her.

"Hey, Ackerman, y-" Y/n cut him off.

"Operation's over. You're not in charge of us anymore. Have a good day." Y/n left with Mikasa.

๐šˆ/๐š—'๐šœ ๐™ฟ๐™พ๐š…

The bell signaling retreat has already been rung, so why aren't they climbing the wall?

Thoughts ran through my bead as I eyed a group of three talking with one another. They seem to be Cadets.

Mikasa seemed to have noticed this odd behavior because she was watching them as well.

"Mikasa." I called out.

"What is it?" she questioned, turning to me. I pointed in a particular direction, making her turn to it as well.

I noticed that the Cadets were focused on the supply HQ and we realized that it's under attack by Titans.

Since it is under attack, I am confident that suppliers cannot leave the HQ, in fear that they might be served as dinner for the Titans.

"Let's look for the others. I know you're worried about Eren and I'm worried about Armin." I told her.

Her cheeks got a little pink but she just simply nodded without looking at me. How interesting.

The two of us jumped from roof to roof to search for any familiar faces that might give us some good information.

"Mikasa, Y/n, weren't you supposed to be with the rear guard?"

We simply ignored them, focused on our goal at the moment, finding our childhood friends and getting the Supply HQ back.

"Annie!" I called out. She immediately turned around at the sound of my soft but demanding voice.

"We have the gist of the situation. And I apologize for possibly sounding selfish but have you seen Eren's squad?" Mikasa inquired.

"I haven't seen them. Nobody climbed the wall either." Annie replied.

"Oh yeah, Armin's over there." Reiner mentioned, pointing at the young boy sitting while staring at the ground.

"Armin." I made my way over to him. Mikasa followed behind me.

"Armin, did you get hurt? Are you okay?" I bombarded him with questions. He responded with a hesitant nod.

"That's good. Where's Eren?" Mikasa asked, standing up to realize that Eren was nowhere near Armin.

I could hear soft whimpers coming from here and I noticed a small drop of tear that had fallen onto his lap.

"Armin?" I called out, beginning to worry. He looked up and stared at me with tears flooding down his cheeks.

"Those...of the 34th Training Corps Squad...Thomas Wagner, Nac Tias, Mylius Zeramuski, Mina Carolina, and Eren Jaeger all accomplished their duties and were heroically killed in action!" he cried out.

"I'm sorry, Mikasa. Eren died in my stead. I'm sorry for being weak, Y/n. I...couldn't do anything...I'm sorry for always bringing you all down." he apologized, his hands trembling once more.

My heart broke. The memories we had together started tearing apart.

Every time I try to think of a memory we all had together, it was like Eren got ripped out of the picture.

No. You dealt with this before.
