Mattheo Riddle. His face, his warmth, his scent, his smile, all of him consumed my thoughts up until the moment I fell asleep and again the moment I woke up the evening of our date. We drank ourselves full, laughed ourselves silly and when we were ready to end the night he took me into the forbidden forest. There we saw an incredibly rare sight, the dance of the Mooncalfs. As the adorable creatures ran, the floor lit up beneath them, leaving a glowing swirling pattern underneath the full moon.
Mattheo's eyes grew watching the soft blue light form around us. I couldn't help but stare at him, his small smile as the creatures cheered at their creation. His eyes then found mine as we smiled brightly at each other. Without thinking, I pulled him into a kiss, a kiss that quickly grew more passionate and heated.
We stumbled back into our dormitory, our friends excitedly waiting. I enthusiastically shared the joyful evening, boasting about how wonderful Mattheo had been, and sharing the Mooncalfs, leaving out the kiss. The more I spoke the more flushed Mattheo became, the more his friends hyped him up, commenting about how they never knew how romantic he could be.
The night ended with Mattheo cheekily crawling into my bed, pulling me into his embrace. Which is why I couldn't get him out of my mind. His face was right in front of me, peaceful as ever. His warmth encapsulated me, lulling me into a nightmareless sleep. His scent ensnared my senses until smelling his cologne and only him was natural. His smile stayed permanently on his face, it was small, yet adorably addictive.
However, when I woke up this morning with a warm sunbeam stretching across my face, I couldn't control the smile that erupted into my face. Even when I found myself completely alone in the dormitory, my cheeks hurt from smiling. "Stop smiling!" I laughed to myself as I did my hair in the mirror, putting extra care into the little details. I couldn't.
"Good morning!" I cheerfully greeted my roommates. They all shared a smirk as I took a seat beside Mattheo. I found my plate already filled with my favourite breakfast bits, which only made my smile harder and my heart flutter. I looked at Mattheo, who was already smiling at me.
"You seem happy, darling." He muttered, wrapping his arm around my waist, pulling me into him. I hummed, digging into my breakfast. Mattheo placed a kiss on my forehead, a quick simple kiss that almost put me into cardiac arrest. Looking up at him, the candlelight above giving him a warm glow that almost seemed surreal... he looked so... hot.
"It's weird seeing Y/n look at Mattheo the same way he's been looking at her for years." I heard Blaise chuckle to Theo, who erupted into uncontrollable laughter as he tried not to choke on the egg he had just eaten. Confused I asked him what he meant, making the boy smirk mischievously. Mattheo then threw a piece of bread at him, followed by a deathly glare. Blaise said no more, but his eyes screamed that he was deeply debating if death was worth telling me what he meant.
Mattheo sighed, "Ignore them, my love." He glared at the duo who were still chuckling. "They are just desperate for a bit of gossip." He added, rolling his eyes. From beside him, I notice Draco's ears perk at the sound of gossip. I smile at the boy, who slowly leans around Mattheo to get a better look at us.
"Speaking of gossip. The pair of you were rather vague when we asked what you both talked about on your date." Draco smirked, wiggling his eyebrows. My face instantly flushed, I had almost forgotten I had confessed my biggest secret to Mattheo. No one knew of that, not even Hermione! "Y/n your face is so red!" Draco laughed, which only made me flush even more. "This has to be good, please do tell!"
Mattheo glared at the boy to shut up, but he didn't seem to get the hint. "Malfoy." He warned, but the others joined in too, equally as curious. Mattheo smiled, shaking his head. "It's up to Y/n, the gossip did come from her." Suddenly all the attention was on me, I felt claustrophobic as they sent me pleading eyes.
It wasn't long before I gave in. "Fine! But I'm not saying it." My hands covered my face, I could feel the heat coming from my skin. I must've looked like a raspberry with how red I had become. Mattheo pulled me closer to him, my face finding his shoulder. He laughed, before excitedly sitting up, ready to divulge my secret to his friends. Merlin, what did I agree to?
"Well, while we were drinking our butter beer, Y/n and I started discussing who we thought the other person's type was, as she confessed she was surprised that I liked her. When I confessed I thought, as did everyone in the school, that she would end up being with Potter..." He paused as the boys agreed with him. My jaw went slack, unable to comprehend what I was hearing. "See darling! I told you everyone thought it." He laughed, directing his words at me. "Anyways, she then says that she's never liked Potter and that the only crush she's had over the previous years was in third year... take a guess who!" Mattheo giddily smiled, unable to contain his excitement even in his voice.
"I'm assuming it's rather embarrassing seeing as Y/n cannot face us right now." Theo laughs, before taking a moment to think. "My guess is Neville Longbottom." He confidently spoke after a moment.
"Well, darling. Is that true?" Mattheo softly spoke as I pulled my face away from his body. Now that I didn't look like a baby tomato, I felt more comfortable being able to look at them in the eyes. Theo looked at me, with a small smirk, thinking he was right. I shook my head, as Theo groaned in frustration.
"Move aside, I'll get this right." Blaise laughed at Theo, taking his place to be the next to guess. "I think as this was in third year, it was a certain someone who was only there for that one year. That being... Professor Lupin!" Blaise looked even more confident with his answer, which caused me to erupt into tears of laughter.
"No! Professor Lupin is like an Uncle to me!" I smiled, laughing harder as Blaise sunk into his seat in defeat. Draco was now the last to guess, his eyes were looking deeply into mine. Nerves pricked my skin as I had the sinking feeling that he figured it out just by looking into my eyes.
"I have a feeling it's a Slytherin..." He muttered in deep thought, making my eyes go so wide they nearly fell out of my skull. Draco smirked at my reaction, knowing he was right. "Maybe... just maybe she's now friends with him." He slowly spoke, his statement drawing out my blush. Fuck, he knows. Who let Draco think for once? "Me. It's me, isn't it." Draco cockily leaned back, a cocky, egotistical grin plastered on his face. "Truly, Snape, I am flattered, but I'd never do that to my boy Mattheo here. Maybe in another life we-" As Draco began his daily dramatic monologue I interrupted him with a hearty laugh.
Draco paused, glancing between myself as I struggled to catch my breath and Mattheo who struggled not to knock the blond out cold. "It's not you." Mattheo glared, his grip on my waist getting tighter, not to the point it was uncomfortable but enough to send my heart pounding a mile a minute. "She liked me! In third year!" Mattheo's cold stare quickly melted and was replaced with a cheerful warmth that turned my brain to mush.
"Wait, what!" Theo almost screamed, dropping his spoon into his cereal. Blaise and Draco were now completely gobsmacked, both unable to string together a single thought. "Why- when- why- what!" Theo babbled, his eyes trained on me as his lips turned from a small confused frown into a bright excited smile.
"Yeah... I liked Mattheo in third year." I confessed, before shoving my face into my hands once again, leaning on the table for support. "I can't believe I told you that! I never told anyone." I groaned, knowing I'd soon regret ever telling anyone this information.
"Not even Granger?" Mattheo breathlessly asked, his eyes blown out and his lips twitching from smiling so much. I nodded as Mattheo's face lit up. Without thinking he pulled me into a hug, kissing my forehead. "You have no idea how happy that makes me, darling." He muttered into my hair, making me giggle.
"Stop, stop, stop!" Blaise interrupted. "Yes, it's cute that you were the first to know that after all this time Y/n had a crush on you, real cute." Blaise unenthusiastically babbled out, waving his arms about trying to get to his point. "But! We need to know all the details!" Blaise added, leaning over the table to grab my shoulders, looking deeply into my eyes, showing his deep desperation.
I rolled my eyes with a sigh, deciding that the secret was out so there was not much point hiding the details that go along with it. Besides, I'm positive it will make Mattheo happy to know said details, so there's no harm. "Remember in third year Professor Lupin paired you and me together for the assignment on the Common Welsh Green Dragons?" I say, addressing Mattheo. Everyone nodded, clinging to every word I said. "Well, as you could guess, I was dreading the whole thing. I thought I'd end up doing all the work on my own, being insulted every minute and hating my life." I laughed, and the boys awkwardly shifted in their seats. "Sorry, but you wanted the truth, and it can hurt." I patted Mattheo on his back, giving him a reassuring smile. "Anyways, the only thing turned out to be the exact opposite, and I got to know Mattheo, we had good laughs, we both contributed to the assignment and we had some deep conversations. I enjoyed our time together, and that's when I developed the small crush."
Mattheo's eyes gleamed at me, flames from nearby candles danced in his dark sultry eyes. Merlin, he's beautiful. "Wait... a small crush? Why small?" Draco spoke rather confused. Suddenly they were all hooked on every word I was saying once again, I had to restrain myself from laughing at the site.
"Yes, well. Roughly three weeks later I saw Mattheo bully a first-year for his packet of acid pops." I laughed along with Blaise, Theo and Draco. "After that, he lost all appeal." I added, still giggling.
"I cannot believe a packet of acid pops caused you to miss out on being with Y/n sooner!" Theo cackled, however, he soon stopped when Mattheo glared. Sooner? What does he mean by sooner?

I felt my range bubble deep within as I stared at Theo, who looked like he was about to ship himself. He almost let slip my biggest secret... she cannot know. Not yet. Not from him. I'm the corner of my eye I saw Y/n looking up at me confused. Fuck, she's so beautiful. "Don't worry about it darling, he's talking absolute bollocks." I laughed Theo's comment off.
Glancing back down to my hand that had been firmly planted on her waist, I couldn't help but smile. The innocent eleven-year-old me from within would probably have a heart attack if he saw us together. My Y/n Snape, where she belongs.
"Hey, Y/n..." Granger appears from behind Theo and Blaise. Her eyes grew wide as she glanced between me, Y/n and my hand. I watched as her face immediately lit up. "When did this happen!" She exaggerated every word, stepping closer to the table.
"Last night, Mattheo took her out." Theo replied, his eyes trained on the girl. Theo makes fun of me an awful lot for the way I look at Y/n, meanwhile he is equally as bad as me for the way he looks at Granger.
"Lucky for me we have Ancient Ruins, and you can tell me all about it!" She smirked as Y/n groaned, not wanting to go to Ancient Ruins. "Come on, Snape, chop chop. I don't have all day!" Granger spoke firmly, crossing her arms impatiently.
"Yes, mother." Y/n sarcastically groaned, slowly rising from her seat. I quickly took her hand, placing a soft kiss on her knuckles, muttering a short goodbye. "Goodbye, Mattheo. Goodbye, boys. I'll see you at dinner most likely." She smiled and waved as Granger hurried her out of the Great Hall.
Watching her leave reminded me of something, something that fell to the back of my mind amidst the recent chaos. When I read Y/n mind those many moons ago, I saw how she and Harry accidentally found that old chamber, with that book my father wrote... the book that traumatised her so badly that she could hardly sleep for a fortnight. I had been too afraid to ask her about it, too afraid to learn what she knew, too afraid in case she pushed me away again. I have a feeling that there's more to what I saw, and if I want to protect her from my father, I must learn what she knows. However, I won't use cheap invasive strategies as I would typically use against people. No. I'll have to find things out the long way. "Guys. You know how every Friday Y/n disappears for the day?" I muttered, watching Potter and Weasley leave not long after the girls.
"Yeah, mate. She's always vague about it... only mentions that Potter, Weaslbee and Granger are there. Why what's up?" Draco spoke from beside me, eating his last bite of toast. I thought for a moment, thinking maybe I should ask her first before I... no... I don't want to give Potter the chance to change or hide anything if he knew we were interested to know what she does during her spare time.
"I think we should see what's up with that." I smirked, glancing between the group. They all excitedly nodded, and with that, we finished our breakfast and headed to our classes.

The sun had long set, and tonight was one of the rare nights where we could freely continue our duties without Y/n being around. She was a distraction, granted she was a very welcomed distraction as by no means do any of us want to willingly do any of this... but regardless of our personal feelings, competing missions had become harder with her living with us. Tonight she was staying over in Granger's room, no doubt Granger was not letting her get away that easily for not telling her sooner about her and Riddle.
I must confess, I'm very happy for the two of them, however, I cannot ignore the aching jealousy I feel too. Not because I like Y/n, she is an attractive girl so I understand the appeal, but no... I'm just jealous that Mattheo has found someone who likes him regardless of who his family is. I know Blaise and Theo feel the same especially since Theo has developed a thing for Granger... but despite that Y/n never fails to brighten our day and make us feel included, safe, and understood.
Tonight we needed to progress further on what may be the biggest task given to us. The assassination of Dumbledore. I'll be the first to put my hands up and admit I've never liked the old sack of skin, but the idea of having to murder him sends paralysing chills down my spine.
A wall. Confused I looked up and found myself at a dead end. Strange... how am I on the seventh floor? Before I could step away, a door appeared on the wall in front of me. The door. Leading to the room of requirements. Strange. Slowly, I pushed open the door, and soon found myself in the same seating area Mattheo had confessed to Y/n in. The room was dark, with streaks of blue light flooding the room from the few windows this place had. It was deadly quiet, making me second guess my choices with every step I took deeper into the room. Glancing around the junk that surrounded me, I groaned, deciding to leave. Until my eyes locked on the same tall object covered by a dusty old sheet.
I decided to tug at the fabric, only for it to melt off the furniture. "A wardrobe?" I muttered to myself, my eyes trained on the tall wooden piece that finished at a tall and sharp point. "A cabinet?" I quickly open the doors, dust flying out but find nothing inside. The object had an aura, a magical aura I couldn't ignore. It was faint but present.
Something bothered me about this particular object, it seemed so familiar. "Oh, darling, look! It's a vanishing cabinet, from the first war! How antique... it's a shame they're practically worthless without its twin." Suddenly my mother's words came flooding back from a trip we made to Borgin and Burkes over the summer.
"Merlin bless you, mother!" I cheered, running back to the dormitory. "I hope this stupid cabinet will save our bloody arses."
