My father hasn't recovered. The red markings that stretched from his eyes down to his arms had over time become crimson. Each passing night became harder and harder to survive than the last. With Astoria's consistent snide remarks, the mystery of Mattheo and his supposed explanation, and the declining health of my father, my mental health has been at an all-time low.

My days currently consist of: attending lessons, studying in the library, visiting my father, quickly eating dinner, sleeping and repeat. Harry has tried to distract my mind with another one of Tom Riddle's books, however, I don't think that would do me any favours.

Now I walked along a deadly quiet corridor to the great hall from the Hospital Wing, with my nose deep into another fictional romance book. Despite the obvious fact that these small stories are beyond realistic, it is nice to toy with the idea of falling in love.

While reading, I had not noticed a certain unpopular group of students until someone grabbed my attention. I turned around, my eyes landing on Riddle. Mattheo was stood there with a cigarette dangling from his lips, and a small gentle grin on his face as he stared at me. His sight is unwavering. However, the rebellious boy with a Gringotts vault full of daddy issues was not the one calling my name. No, it was Astoria Greengrass, who was glued by Pansy Parkinson while being surrounded by their 'boyfriends'.

Sighing from distaste, I decided to hear what she had to say. If it was stupid, I could simply walk away. "Y/n Snape! Why didn't you tell me about Severus? I had to find out from Blaise Zabini, of all people!" She screamed, sounding more and more like Parkinson with each syllable. Her voice slowly grew in volume. "Some best friend you are." She added in a mutter, as she began to storm off, followed closely by Parkinson herself.

I began to laugh hysterically. That bitch has some nerve to consider us best friends. Astoria stopped in her tracks, turning around confused by my sudden outburst. "Best friends! You are unbelievable Astoria. Truly, unbelievable. I don't know how you do it!" I continued to laugh, the hypocrisy and utter ignorance of this girl became more hilarious each time I replay the moment in my brain. "We are not best friends, Greengrass. And haven't been for a while. I have zero obligation to tell anyone anything about my family affairs that have nothing to do with anyone else." I angrily screamed, letting out weeks of frustration onto the girl. I felt ten pounds lighter. I could feel the disbelief washing away, as anger now flooded in.

"What on earth are you talking about!" Astoria yelled in response. A pitiful answer in reality. I glanced over towards the boys, each one looking between Astoria and me intensely, except for Mattheo, who didn't dare look away from me. I quickly looked back at Astoria and Pansy, hoping he did not catch me glancing at him.

"Where shall I begin? Perhaps the snide remarks about what I wear, my body, the company I keep, waking me up at ridiculous o'clock, locking me out of my bedroom, stealing my clothes and makeup, stealing money, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Worst of all, you stole my friends!" I screamed until my throat began to close. I screamed until tears blurred my vision. I screamed at Astoria until I forgot what she used to mean to me.

They all stood silently watching as I attempted to control my breathing. Astoria looked... sad? Empathetic? Guilty? She's pathetic. They all are. Astoria stood still, utterly stunned by my outburst. "I-" is all she could say.

"Kill her." A whisper echoed from behind. I jumped and whipped around, my wand slipping from up my sleeve and into the palm of my hand. "She deserves it, Y/n. She betrayed you, abandoned you!" The man whispered as my head began to pound with waves of pain.

"Who's there!" I yell. Holding my head tightly hoping to ease the pain. Suddenly I heard my name being called, however, it wasn't the deep eerie whisper I was hearing. No, it was coming from down the hall, the voice sounded panicked.

"There!" Three bodies turned the corner, it being three Gryffindors. Hermione was the first to stop me, followed by Harry and a very red-in-the-face Ron. The trio came barrelling towards me at lightning speed, I had little time to process the situation.

"Did you hear that?" Harry spoke, heavily breathing from running so fast. Confused I asked him what he meant. "That voice. I heard it too. Like a venomous whisper that always seems to be behind you." He added. I nodded, unable to form words. How did Harry hear it too?

The trio's faces went white as Sir Nicholas, as they looked around apprehensively. "Harry told us what he was saying. Who was he-" Hermione began, however, she stopped herself when she saw the group that was still lurking around. Specifically, Hermione spotted a very familiar face, who had tears in her eyes. "Ah..." Is all Hermione added.

"What the bloody hell is going on!" Pansy screeched, stepping in front of Astoria. "First that thing starts yelling at my best friend, then she starts freaking out, out of nowhere and suddenly she's hearing voices!" Pansy yelled, demanding to know what was going on.

Ron stepped forward, calmly speaking to the group. "It's none of your concern, Parkinson. So all of you can buggar off, and leave Y/n alone. Alright?" He stood tall, glaring at the group. The Slytherins must have decided that causing a scene over this was not worth their precious time, as with a grumble they slowly walked away. Strange.

"It was him, wasn't it? Voldemort." I immediately turned to Harry. He looked shocked that I knew immediately and asked how I figured it out. "I have reason to believe my father was attacked by death eaters. This only further confirms my theory." I looked down, not knowing what else to say. I've heard terrible tales of the lengths Voldemort would go to just to make sure anyone who stood in his way was completely and utterly destroyed. Now it seems he's trying to get to either me or my father. Perhaps he's trying to get to both of us...

"We've been to see him, and it does make sense. Those markings on your father are not normal..." Hermione added, a frown playing on her face. "I suggest that we have another, proper meeting after the next DA meeting in the room of requirement. Harry, you bring one of those books, Y/n I want you and I to gather any information we can related to your father's injuries. Ron, I need you to keep an eye on the Slytherins who have family ties to death eaters, and see if they know anything about the attack on Snape." Hermione spoke sternly, everyone nodding along.

"Until then, we do not speak a word of this, to anyone." Harry added. The four of us walked towards the Great Hall for dinner, hearing the soft chatter of hundreds of students just up ahead. "You exited for tonight?" Harry asked me, walking by my side.

"Yes, I very much am. Luna and I are going together." I smiled, trying my best to avoid locking eyes with one particular group of Slytherins. I decided to join the Gryffindors, sitting beside Harry while Ron and Hermione sat opposite us.

"What's that I hear? Y/n Snape coming to our Halloween party!" Fred and George turned to face me, the pair of them sat on the other side of me. "What are you going to wear, princess." George grinned deviously, while Fred chuckled and fist-bumped his twin.

"Well my ginger prince, that's for me to know and for you to find out." I winked playfully before turning back towards my plate of food. The twins groaned, only becoming more persistent to find out what I planned to wear.

"C'mon now, Snape." Fred leaned in. "At least give us a hint." He smiled playfully, his grin widened when I shook my head in disbelief at their persistence. As I continued to eat my dinner the Weasleys twins continued to nag me about the costume I would be wearing. As much as I cherish them, they did begin to annoy me over time.

"Whatever. I'm going back to get ready. I shall see you all at the party." I smiled, hiding my irritation from the group. I waved goodbye as I left the hall. As I continued to walk along the corridors, I unfortunately ran into the worst boy to have ever existed. Cormac McLaggen.

"Hey, Snape." He followed after me, his long legs keeping up with me and my fruitless attempt at speed walking away. What's even more unfortunate than running into Cormac McLaggen on my way back to my bedroom? Running into Riddle and his friends on my way back to my bedroom. I must be the unluckiest person ever...

As I walked past the loitering group I glanced at them for a moment, however, I immediately looked away noticing the deathly glare coming from Mattheo aimed at McLaggen. "Please McLaggen. Enough niceties. Get to the point so this interaction can end." I huffed, not stopping my stride. Once I reach the common room I'll be free from this insufferable parasite.

"Now, now, Snape. Play nice." He smirked with a wink that almost made my dinner shoot up my throat. I huffed, forcing him to state his point. "Fine. I was wondering if you'd like to be my date." I stopped dead in my tracks as the words slipped from between Cormac's slimy lips. Cormac stood there with a genuine yet hopeful smile. Strange.

"Excuse me!" Someone spoke. I looked to my right and found the Slytherin boys standing there with murderous, disgusted and confused expressions. Blaise had been the one to interrupt. "The nerve you have asking her out after everything you said and done!" He spoke, his brows furrowed while beads of spit flew out of his mouth in rage. I've never experienced this side of Blaise. Typically, he's always been pretty mellow and seemed to go with the flow of things.

"The nerve you have to speak on her behalf, especially because you know, you all abandoned her for an uglier set of chicks like Pansy and Astoria." Cormac laughed, finding himself and his derogatory words rather amusing. Cormac then turned back to me, a dark look deep within his eyes. "C'mon Y/n, I'll show you a good time like the slut I know you are."

My hands balled into fists as I felt rage consume me once more. I can't wait to drink later. "How dare you! Pansy and Astoria may not be the nicest people on earth but they are far more attractive than most women in this school! I'd much rather date one of them than you. I'd much rather date one of these boys here than you! You are a vile human being Cormac McLaggen, and if you step near me once more I shall hex you into oblivion!" I yelled, quickly storming away for dramatic effect and to avoid them seeing the embarrassment on my face.

The words I spoke in a fit of passion quickly dawned on me, making my face turn bright red. I ran up into my room, taking a moment to collapse on my bed and take a moment to collect my thoughts. I cannot believe I said something that outrageous! I cannot see them again. Ever. I think if one of them was to simply glance at me I'd burst into violent flames.

Speaking of flames, I quickly worked to distract myself from my running thoughts by getting dressed. I pulled out my black mini-dress, admiring the flames and crispy amber seams. I had styled the costume with glossy black high heels, black wings enchanted to seem realistic and a cute black devil horn headband. I had decided to layer some of my favourite jewellery and a matching metal belt that hung loosely around my waist.

Looking in the mirror, I couldn't believe the sight looking right at me. For the first time in a while, I felt beautiful, gorgeous even. With some final touches, I was on my way, taking my time down the steep steps in these heels. I'd rather not break my neck this evening.

As I walked through the common room, I noticed that the only ones that remained were too young to attend and Riddle with his friends. "You look beautiful, Miss Snape!" One of the first-year girls, Izzy, called out as I walked by. I bashfully thanked her, quickly leaving the room to avoid the boys. It's rather strange, the amount of times I've run into them today...

"Where are you going?" As though Merlin heard my thoughts and thought I hadn't had enough, I found Draco Malfoy blocking my path. I rolled my eyes at the blond, neglecting to answer him as I pushed past the boy. "Oi!" He groaned, chasing after me once more with Mattheo following him.

"Guys, leave her alone! We've bothered her enough." Theo called out to his two hotheaded friends, to no avail. They continued their pursuit, which led Blaise and Theo to chase after them, being the voices of reason.

"I was talking to you, Snape." Draco stated in an annoying yet aggressive tone. He and Riddle managed to keep up with me after some time of walking, as I refused to run in these heels, it was too early for my feet to be aching. They blocked my path, forcing my hand at interacting with them.

"Why do you care, Malfoy." I sighed, holding the bridge of my nose in frustration and defeat. He simply glared at me, looking more serious than ever. This reminded me of when we were friends when the blond was rather protective of me. They all were. They all treated me like the younger sister they never had. I gave in with a loud sigh. "Fine! I'm heading to the Gryffindor Halloween party." I finally answered although the boys did not look impressed. Strange.

"What! Y/n that is incredibly irresponsible, what if-" Malfoy began to drone on, giving me his typical hypocritical lecture about responsibility. Blaise struggled to hold back his laughter. At first, the familiarity of this moment brought a sense of comfort and belonging. Feelings I've been longing to feel for a while. However I cannot forgive them so easily, I cannot let my guard down.

"First of all, I don't need another lecture, Mother. Second, stop pretending like we are friends, as you've made that rather clear that we are not. Stop pretending to care. Stop being so complicated and hot and cold with your actions. It's as though you're mind is thinking one thing while your heart thinks another. I'm tired of your strange behaviour. That goes to all of you." I walked away as quickly as I could, trying to get to the party as fast as possible, knowing I'd be hidden away from them for the rest of the evening.

Thump, thump, thump. As I neared the common, vibrations from the music shook the halls. Many students loitered around the entrance, some already too drunk to stand straight despite it being only half-eight at night. Others were eating the faces of their lovers, and others cried about ex-lovers. As I approached the door, I noticed two figures guarding it. Dean Thomas and Seamus Finnigan. "Evening gentlemen." I smiled at the duo.

The boys turned to look at me, their once bored expressions lighting up with grins. "Hey, Y/n. Been a while, you look fucking amazing." Dean grinned, stepping forward to greet me with a hug. The boy towered over me, compared to shorter Seamus who also hugged me after Dean.

"Yes, you look terrific!" Seamus smiled. I thanked the pair, as they muttered the password to let me in. Before I left, I asked if they'd be out here all night. "No, some of the lads and we have arranged times for us to stand guard and enjoy the party. We have another... half an hour I believe." Seamus's brows scrunched as he tried to remember how long he had left before he could finally escape into the crowd.

"Wonderful. I'll see you both in there." I grinned, walking into the Gryffindor common room. Red and white lights danced across the room, their brightness muffled by the smoky atmosphere that swallowed us. As the music thumped faster and faster, the lights began to flash in rhythm with the base. I could feel the vibrations sending waves through my bones.

"There you are!" Luna smiled, twiddling her fingers as her beautiful white wings sat on either side of her. The white silky dress flowed elegantly down her body, fading into white glowing specks that cascaded down to the floor while fading out of existence. A halo hovered above her head, also glowing with a soft warm golden light. Her blonde hair was curled into small bouncy waves that framed her rosy cheeks perfectly. "Sorry I didn't wait for you outside, Cho dragged me inside." Luna explained, a slightly guilty look in her eyes.

"Don't worry, Moon. My fault for taking so long. I ran into a bit of trouble." I grumbled but quickly smiled in an attempt to forget about today's events. Luna's eyes widened as she glanced over my shoulder.

"I'm guessing the troubled just walked in." Luna pointed behind me, her smile fading. I turned around, suddenly being filled with annoyance and disbelief at the sight before me.

In the doorway, stood Gryffindor's biggest enemies. The four that, less than two months ago, would rather die than be near this common room, yet here they are, dressed up and all. Blaise wore a dirty and battered-up suit, with fake stapled stitches and metal bolts on either side of his neck. Blaise was Frankenstein.

Draco Malfoy, being the pale rich boy he is, wore a black cape with red on the inside and a collar that stood upright. White ruffles sat on his chest as he wore a white buttoned shirt and black trousers. Draco was Dracula.

Theodore Nott had decided to go bold, wearing an open black unbuttoned shirt with a skeleton painted on his body and face. His hair was slicked back and, of course, he had a cigarette between his lips and black trousers on. Theo was a Skeleton and a rather good one at that.

My eyes then landed on Mattheo, who took my breath away. Just like all the other Slytherin men, he wore black trousers. However, he was completely shirtless, wearing devil horns and waving around a pitchfork. Mattheo Riddle was dressed as a Devil.

I rolled my eyes at the group, who were quick to approach me. "Obsessed much?" I glared at Mattheo, who only grinned in response. "I don't need protection, so leave me alone!" I yell over the blasting music, pulling Luna away from them towards the makeshift bar the twins have conjured up. "That is the fourth time I've seen them in 3 hours!" I explained to Luna, my voice was still aggressive with anger.

"You'll be okay." Luna tries to comfort me, placing a gentle hand on my arm. "We'll order some drinks, and ignore them completely. I'll tell Hermione and Ginny about the situation and we girls will keep them from you." I nodded, my eyes not leaving my hand that rested on the cold sticky surface or the bar.

"Ladies." Someone slid in front of us. Looking up I see Fred and George. I smiled. "Luna, looking as angelic as ever." George winked, making Luna laugh at his words. "Y/n, who knew the devil was so hot." Fred winked, mimicking his brother. I rolled my eyes at the twins, failing to fight back a smile. "What can we get for you." George added, already reaching for the vodka.

"Vodka lemonade for the both of us, make it a double." I grinned, sliding over a couple of galleons. Fred and George nodded, working quickly to serve us. As soon as the drink hit my hand, I guzzled it down. The aftertaste of alcohol burned the back of my throat.

Suddenly a hand gripped mine, pulling Luna and I away from the bar. It was Ginny and Hermione. "Let's dance!" Ginny screamed over the blasting noise. Luna was quick to explain to the girls the situation. "Seriously! It's like they are all in love with you, they can't leave you alone." Ginny scowled at them, as they all stood in the corner, drinking.

"Of course he's looking right at you." Hermione huffed, shaking her
