Chapter Sixty-One
🎭 Creatures Of The Night 🎭

A girl, with four healing scars on her upper arm and an almost healed burn on her side, stood under a steaming stream of water as Nurse Cross stood off by the door, holding a towel as she glanced down at her watch. "All right, you've had long enough. Let's go." She said but the girl didnt make any movement, "I'm not buying the catatonic act. So don't think that I'm going to drop my guard." She said.

The girl remained silent and motionless, as though she's staring off into space. Nurse Cross rolled her eyes and continues to speak with her in an aggressive and irritated tone of voice.

"I know you can hear me." She said before walking over to the girl, "Look at me when I'm talking to you. I said look at me!" She said and the girl didnt move. "Wren!" Nurse Cross said before grabbing her face making Wren look at her with a deadened expression as if she wasn't completely there.

After Wren is dressed into lounge clothes, she and Nurse Cross are walked back to Wren's room with an orderly named Schrader who stared at Wren. "Is she all right?" He asked and Nurse Cross looked at Wren bitterly, "She's fine. It's all part of the act. She's just a dedicated performer." She said.

Wren laid in bed as Schrader stuck a needle into a bottle of liquid, "Up the dosage to three mils. She wants catatonic? Give it to her." Nurse Cross said before closing the door and walking away and Schrader sat down next to Wren on the bed.

"Sorry about her, Wren. She doesn't have the gentlest bedside manner. But I can be gentle." He said as he slowly felt around Wren's inner elbow before looking at her, "I promise to be gentle." He said before pushing the needle into her arm and looking up at her.

"Are you all right, Wren?" He asked before slowly pulling the needle back out, "Sorry about that. I... Couldn't find a vein. I'll have to... Try again." He said before slowly pushing the needle back into her arm as he let's out a small breath as though this is some sadistic form of pleasure for him

He immediately hits a vein and draws the plunger back, causing a plume of blood to flow into the syringe. However, knowing that Wren is not paying attention to him, he pretends as though he missed her vein so he has an excuse to keep sticking her with a needle. "Hmm... I'll... I'll just have to find a bigger vein." He said in a slight whisper before slowly turning Wren's head to the side.

Squeezing the syringe in his fist  he prepares to stab the needle into Wren jugular. But before he could Wren suddenly bolted into a seated position with a gasp as the room shook with such force that Schrader stumbled backward against the wall. The syringe in his hand clattering onto the floor as all of the lights in the closed unit explode in a shower of sparks and broken glass.

Wren wasted no time rushing out of her room and into the hallway of the closed unit, where two orderlies rush toward her from both gates. She stops halfway between the two unit doors and takes in the threat before deciding to rush forward, kicking the first orderly in the stomach and wrapping her legs around his neck while he's doubled over so she can pull him onto the ground.

She flipped her hair over her shoulders before standing to her feet when she sees the other orderly rushing toward her. Her eyes clouded over as she saw flashes of when him breaking his leg in highschool. The orderly cried out in pain as he feel to the ground, holding his broken leg.

She forcefully kicked him in the face making him fall back before she made a beeline out the closed unit. Wren rushes out into the rain where three security surrounds her, holding electrical batons. Wren looked at them before taking a deep breath as one ran at her.

The ground under her feet shook as she forcefully kicked him back. The other two ran at her and she grabbed both their arms before elbowing one in the face making him fall to the ground.

She wrapped the other guards arm over her shoulder before easily flipping him over her shoulder. She quickly ran down the stairs towards the gate but stopped when someone walks up the steps toward her. She looked at them with wide eyes as she slowly stepped back. "Sorry, Wren. But your treatment's not done. Not yet." Allison said before the three guards pressed their taser batons to her back making her cry out in pain as she fell to the ground.

One of the guards grabbed her arm and pulled her up slightly as she looked up at Allison. "Please, I need to tell them! They're going to die. My friends. They're all going to die..."

Wren sat next to Scott on the hood of the Jeep at Lookout Point, watching the night sky. "All right, so I found some cool two bedrooms in the Mission District, but they're pretty expensive. A couple in Haight and Ashbury, also expensive." Stiles said, he had a map of the greater San Francisco region spread out on the hood of the Jeep next to Wren while marking potential places to live for college.

"What about Berkeley? Don't a lot of students live around there?" Scott asked, looking over at Stiles who nodded. "Yeah, yeah, we could try Knob Hill. But, the Jeep would probably burn through a lot of clutches." Stiles said making Wren raise her eyebrows as she was shuffling her desk of tarot cards. Her freshly dyed rose gold hair blowing   lightly from the wind in the process.

"You're gonna bring the jeep?" She asked and he looked at her like that was the dumbest question she could ask, "You know the plan, okay? No one gets left behind. That's the plan. You'll easily get onto Northwestern University or MIT. Lydia won't have any problems getting into Stanford. Kira's thinking USF. Malia's, uh, gonna, you know, she'll figure something out, okay. The plan's perfect." Stiles said and Wren nodded slightly before she started pulling cards.

"Or we could also wait until we actually get into college and then figure out where to live." Scott said and Stiles looked at him offended now, "I have a vision, dude. Okay? And it is a beautiful vision. Don't ruin the vision." Stiles said and they chuckled before looking back out at the sky while Stiles went back to the map. "Okay, we can check out the East Bay. Haven't looked at Oakland yet, you know." He said before looking at Scott then at the full moon.

"You all right? You starting to feel it?" Stiles asked and Scott shook his head, "No. Just thinking." Scott said and Wren glanced over at him. "About what?" She ask and he looked over at them and shrugged slightly, "Senior year."

"Senior year, come on, that's, that's... That's nothing. That's going to be easy." Stiles said and Scott sighed softly and sat up. "It's more like something Deaton told me once. You ever hear of regression to the mean?" Scott asked and Wren nodded while Stiles shook his head, "No, I don't think so." Stiles said.

"It was his way of saying that life can't ever be all bad or all good. You know, eventually, things have to come back to the middle. So, think about the last few months. Things have been good, right? But not amazing." Scott said and Stiles pursed his lips, "Yeah, but no one's tried to kill us in six months either."

"Right. We've been pretty much in the middle for a while... Which means, at some point, the scale has to tip one way or the other. Things are gonna get really good again." Scott said and Wren sighed. "Or really bad given the cards I just pulled." She said making them look at her. "What do you mean?" Stiles asked and she set three cards down infront of her, "Death?" Stiles asked incredulously when he looked at the Death, The Tower and The Moon cards and she sighed.

"It doesnt actually mean death. The Death card is transformation, change and transition. The moon card signals a time of uncertainty and illusion, when nothing is what it truly seems. We should be careful making fast decisions. You need to listen to and trust your intuition so you can see beyond what is presented in front of you..  But the Tower card is the one I'm worried about the most." She said.

"Why?" Scott asked and she sighed as she lifted the card up, "The Tower represents chaos and destruction. It's signals a change that is usually is scary, life changing and most of the times unavoidable." She said making the guys glance at each other as there was a loud thunder and flash of light as the storm starts to gather.

"Think it's been long enough?"

"Yes!"

They turn around to look at Liam who has been chained to a tree the whole time they've been there. "Hey. Trying to have an adult conversation over here." Stiles says making Liam roll his eyes, "All right, you're two years older than me, and I'm fine. Just let me go." Liam said and they sighed before walking over to him.

"It's not that we don't trust you-" Scott said as he pulled out the keys, "It's that I don't trust you." Stiles interjected making Wren lightly elbow his side. "But after that last full moon." Scott said making Liam sigh, "It was one slip-up!" He defended making Stiles raise his eyebrows.

"Slip-up? A dozen calls to the Sheriff's department about a monstrous dog boy running around the streets of Beacon Hills??? Naked???" Stiles said exasperatedly making Wren look at Liam weird, "Yeah, why were you naked?" She asked and he looked down sheepishly. "It was really hot out that night, okay? Let me go!"

"You sure you're okay?

"It won't happen again."

"You're in complete and total control."

"Yeah. Complete and total."

A few minutes later they were all in the jeep driving down the road. Scott and Stiles sat in the front while Wren and Liam sat in the back, him leaning in between the front seats. "Is it a party?" Liam asked, "It's not a party." Stiles answered slightly annoyed.

"Then what's at midnight?"

"Your bedtime." Stiles said making Liam roll his eyes while Wren chuckled, "Why aren't the girls going?" Liam asked making Wren frown and look up at him. "Am I invisible?" She asked but they ignored her. "They're meeting us there, okay? And just stop asking questions, all right? It's a senior thing. You'll know when you're a senior."

"You guys having trouble with your phones?" Scott asked and Wren sighed and glanced down at her phone, "Yeah, none of my texts are going through." She said and almost right after the engine started spluttering before stopping. "You out of gas?" Liam asked and Stiles shook his head, "No, it's electrical. Probably the alternator again." Stiles said before him and Scott got out, Wren following behind them.

Stiles pulled up the hood of the jeep making both Scott and Wren's eyes widen at the amount of duct tape. "Whoa, that's a lot of duct tape." Scott said making Stiles give him an exasperated look, "Kidding. We'll fix it." Scott said while Wren pursed her lips slightly.

"It is a very unhealthy amount of duct tape." She mumbled and Stiles shot her an offended look, "Babe." He said making her smile at him. "But it just means the jeep is special." She said and kissed his cheek and he sighed softly, "I know. It's just the last night of summer, you know? So, I wanted to make sure everyone was there tonight."

"We'll make it. You got any tools?" Scott asked and Stiles nodded, "Yeah..." Stiles said before holding up a thing of duct tape making Wren sigh softly. "It's honestly a miracle this jeep isn't in pieces yet." Wren said making Stiles look at his girlfriend offended, "Can you stop hating on my jeep?"

"I love the jeep. But I don't love when it breaks down on us... Like it did last week." She said and Stiles was about it say something but Liam called out to them. "Guys!" He said making them glance towards his direction, "Yeah, give us a second, please." Stiles called out.

"Liam, stay in the car, okay?" Scott asked and all of the sudden a bolt of lightning strikes down about twenty feet behind them making them spin around while Stiles grabbed Wren.

"...That was close." Scott said and they nodded, "Too close." Wren said and then the jeep started up making them turn back around to see Liam peak his head out the diver side window.

"Can we go now?"

🎭

A few minutes later Stiles pulled up where Malia told them to meet her, "Sorry we're late! Hey." Stiles said as he hopped out the jeep. Malia instantly climbed in, sitting next to Wren while Mr. Tate eyed Stiles and Scott like a protective father.

"Please tell me there's at least one other girl with you guys." He said and Wren leaned forward as Stiles climbed back into the jeep. "Don't worry Henry, her sister is here too!" She said and he nodded and smiled, "Good." He said and she waved at him before he walked away.

Almost instantly, everyone turned to Malia, "What?" She asked when she noticing all their eyes on her. "Did you find out yet?" Wren asked making Malia and Liam look at her, "Find out what?" Liam asked.

"They're gonna email me." Malia said nodding, "Is this about summer school?" Liam asked making Wren close her eyes and sigh while Malia looked at Stiles wide-eyed. "You told him?"

"Oh, no! All they said was you had to go to summer school 'cause the principal said your test scores weren't good enough and you might have to repeat Jun-" Liam said but his words got muffled as Wren covered his mouth with her hand to get him to shut up.

"We should have left him chained to the tree."

🎭

Wren and Malia stood talking to Melissa in the hospital when Stiles and Scott walked up to them, "Wren, if you were going away, and I told you "Don't worry, go have fun," what would you think I was talking about?" Stiles asked making them look over at him and Wren pursed her lips slightly.

"Writing." She said and Stiles squinted slightly, "I forgot you're too nice of a person to ask that to. Malia, if you had a boyfriend and he said that what would you think?" He asked making them look at her. "Fun like bowling? Or sex with other guys?" Malia asked making Wren give them all a weird look. "Why is that even be an option?" She asked as Scott's face drained of color, "Okay, yeah... Now, I'm worried."

A second later a few paramedics moved past them, rolling someone on a gurney. "Hey, Mom? Where's all this coming from?" Scott asked as Melissa started following, "A jack-knifed tractor-trailer on 115- caused a major pile-up." She said making Wren's eyes widen as she turned to Scott.

"Okay, uh- 115 is the only way to get into Beacon Hills from the airport. Kira's never gonna make it." She said and Scott's eyes widened before shaking his head, "I can get her. You guys head to the school. Lydia's probably already there. We'll meet you by midnight." Scott said as he walked away from them.

"How are you gonna get to her in the middle of a traffic jam?" Stiles asked and Scott looked back at him, "We'll make it. Trust me." He said before walking out.

🎭

"Nothing from Scott or Kira." Malia said and Wren sighed, "And nothing from Lydia, either." She said. "And I still don't know if I passed." Malia said before looking around at everyone, "I don't want to do this unless I'm actually a senior." She said and Wren sighed and rested her hand on Malia's shoulder, "You'll pass. I've been studying with you all summer. You've gotten better, okay? You got this." Wren said before stepping away and walking over to Stiles.

"I can fell your anxiety." Wren said making him jump slightly before turning to her, "Yeah? It should be normal by now, since it's pretty much a constant state for me." He said and she sighed softly and grabbed his hands. "Why's this thing so important to you?" She asked and he sighed and shook his head slightly.

"It's not. It's not. It's, uh...I don't know, maybe it is. I asked my dad the other day about his high school friends. Guess how many he still talks to?" He asked and she shrugged, "None. Not a single one. You know, these were his best friends, and he just says he lost touch with them, you know. So, I started thinking about things, like I always do- obsessively. Yeah... And so, I'm thinking, what if... What if Scott's my best friend now, you know, but he's not my best friend for life?"

"Doesn't that just happen sometimes? But it doesnt mean it's gonna happen to you." She said and he nodded slightly, "Yeah, but only because we let it happen. You know, that's what I'm saying- how come when we graduate, we're just expected to go our separate ways? If I've already found the best people in my life, why aren't I not trying to stay with them, you know?" He said and she nodded.

"I thought that was the plan. The dream." She said and he squinted at her, "The vision. And don't mock the vision!" He said and she shook her head. "I'm not mocking it. I love the vision. Especially if I'm part of it." She said and he sighed softly, "You're always apart of it." He said and she smiled

"So that's why you wanted everyone here tonight- because you don't want to lose all your friends after senior year." She said and he nodded, "And I hope they don't want to lose me, either." He said and she smiled softly while pulling him closing her.

"Well, I definitely don't want to lose you." She said making him smile before leaning down to kiss her. She smiled into the kiss before suddenly pulling away when they heard a thud. They turned around to see Malia holding Liam to the ground. "Woah. Oh, my God!" Stiles muttered as he and Wren ran over to them, "Scott's in trouble!" He said making them all look at each other before breaking into a run.

They followed Liam until they made it to the tunnel that connected the school to the field. Scott was on his knees with some dude standing in front of him with his claws inside Scott's chest.

Scott grabbed the man wrist before slowly looking up at him with red eyes. Slowly, he got enough strength to stand up making the man look shocked. Scott grabbed the dude's arm before snapping it making him groan out in pain and fall to his knees.

"I don't know who you are, or what you thought you were going to do, but I'll give you a choice. You can stay, and I'll break something else... Or you can run." Scott said and the man looked over at everyone else, "I'd run." Stiles said. Almost instantly the man got up and ran out of the tunnel making them walk over to Scott and Kira. That's when they noticed an extra person as he turned around and smiled at them.

"You guys don't remember me, do you?" He asked, looking at Scott, Wren and Stiles who just look at him confused. "I guess I look a little different since the fourth grade."  He said and realization crossed over Scott's face, "Theo?" He asked making Malia look at him confused.

"You know him?" Malia asked making them look over at her, "They used to. Trust me, I never thought I'd see you guys again. A couple of months ago, I heard of an Alpha in Beacon Hills. When I found out his name was
