Chapter Forty-Nine
๐Ÿ’ฐ The Dark Moon ๐Ÿ’ฐ

"This doesn't seem so bad." Stiles says as him, Lydia and Wren look around, Lydia having a hold on her sister's arm for comfort. They're were in Mexico to negotiate with the Calaveras. "It's not the town, it's the plan." Wren says making Stiles look at her offended, "What's wrong with the plan?"

"Stiles, this could be the stupidest plan we've ever come up with. You're aware of that, right?" Lydia says exasperatedly and he nodded, "I'm aware it's not our best..." He said making Wren raised her eyebrows, "We've had a good plan?"

"We are going to die." Lydia said making Stiles glanced at her. "Are you saying that as a Banshee, or are you just being pessimistic?" Stiles says as they start walking. "I'm saying it as a person who doesn't wanna die." Lydia says and Wren laughed, "Okay... Would you mind restricting any talk of death to actual Banshee predictions?"

"This plan is stupid and we're going to die." Wren says and Stiles chuckled and nodded his head, "Oh thank you." He said sarcastically and she smiled.

Walking up to the building of the club, two men stood in front of them, "Estamos aquรญ para la fiesta?" Lydia asked and the men looked at each other then shook their head making her sigh. Stiles pulled a card out of his pocket before showing it to one of the men, he looked over to a camera making Stiles hold the card up to it and then a few second after the door buzzed open.

Taking a deep breath, they walked in, the door shutting behind them as they walked down a hall. The music they could already hear was making the walls shake violently. As they walked, Stiles grabbed Wren's hand while she made sure to keep a good grip on Lydia so they dont get separated.

Standing at the bar, three shot glasses got set in front of them making them raise their eyebrows in confusion. Stiles went to grab his wallet but a hand grabbed onto his and Wren shoulders, "No. On the house. Most American teenagers don't cross the border to refuse a drink." Someone said and Wren rolled her eyes.

"We didn't come here to drink." Wren said before dropping one of the bullets she found on the loft floor into a shot glass.

"Severo hates this music. Me? I've always loved the music of youth. This especially, it has a savage energy." Araya said, looking down at whatever she was doing making Wren sigh. "We're here for Derek Hale." She said making Araya look at her and smile, "Is that so?"

"We know you have him. We've heard you can be bought." Lydia said and Stiles put stacks of cash on the desk, "That's fifty thousand for Derek." He said making Araya chuckle.

"Now, where does a teenage boy get money like this? Japanese mafia?" She asked and people around them started cocking their guns making Lydia and Stiles jump and look around while Wren just glanced at the people around them. "Not smart to come alone." Araya said making Stiles raise his eyebrows, "What makes you think we're alone?" He asked. Araya's face fell into a scowl, "You brought a wolf into my home?" She asked and Stiles smirked, "We brought an alpha."

"My friends...I don't think you're aware of your poor timing. Do you know what the dark moon is?" She asked and Wren pursed her lips and shrugged, "The part of the lunar phase when the moon is least visible in the sky." She answered and Araya nodded, "But do you know its meaning?" She asked.

"Some people say it's a time of reflection of grief." Lydia said and Araya chuckled, "Grief and loss, mija. I wonder why, when you and your friends have suffered so much loss, you would risk it again for someone like Derek Hale." She said making Stiles squint at her.

"Cause we don't like to lose."

"Nadie en la cantina. Front door clear, south clear." Someone said over the radio. "North? Norte?" Severo asked but got no response, "Dรณnde estรก el norte?"

"Stiles, take ten off the table." Scott's voice came through the radio making Stiles take away a stack of cash, "Maybe you should just take the deal." Lydia said in a slight whisper. "While I am keen to follow the warning of a banshee, I'm going to have to decline." Araya said making Stiles sigh, "Awww, come on. Just give us Derek. You don't want him anyway! Haven't you noticed what a downer he is? No sense of humor, poor conversationalist. Just, come on. Take the money." Stiles said.

"Severo? Show them how the Calaveras negotiate."

"He's awake! Guys, he's awake!" Kira called out making everyone run over as Scott woke up, "Scott, you okay?" Stiles asked and Scott nodded slightly. "Yeah..." He said as Kira and Stiles helped him up, "They don't have him. They don't have Derek." He said and Wren sighed softly.

"We know... But right now, they've got Lydia." She said making him look at her wide eyed, "Lydia? What do they want with Lydia?" He asked and she just shrugged. He instantly got up and started looking around the room and the door.

"We already looked for a way out. I think a lot of people have." Kira said and Malia sighed, "I say, when that door opens again, we take out whoever's standing in the way and run for it." She said making them look at her.

"What about Lydia?" Kira asked and Malia looked at her confused, "What about her?" She asked and Wren sighed softly. "We're not leaving without her." She said and Malia looked at her crazy, "Why not?" She asked making Wren look at Stiles.

"Because we don't leave without people. Remember, we talked about this? Rules of the wild kingdom don't apply to friends." He said and Malia sighed, "Is that what you would do as a coyote? Leave her for dead?" Kira asked and Malia shrugged.

"If she was weak and injured, yeah. If hunting had been bad that season, I would eat her- Then I'd leave." She said making Wren sigh and look at everyone, "Sounds crazy but that's progress." She said and Stiles nodded in agreement.

"All right, guys. We're not dead yet, and that means Araya wants something." Scott said making them look at him, "But, if the Calaveras don't know where Derek is, that means they didn't take him from the loft, right?" Kira asked. "Maybe he left on his own?" Stiles suggested and Scott furrow his brows slightly.

"Maybe someone else got to him..."

A little while later a couple hunters came in and took Scott and Kira, leaving Wren, Stiles and Malia alone in the room. "Do you hear them? Can you hear Scott? Can you hear Kira? Lydia? Anybody? What are they saying?" Stiles asked as he paced around while Malia sat by rusted sinks and Wren leaned against a pillar.

Malia had her eyes closed trying to listen on what's going on but obviously Stiles talking wasn't helping. "I... I can't. I can't concentrate. I... There's too many sounds... and voices..." Malia said frustratedly and Wren nodded slightly. "It's okay. Just breathe. You practiced this with Scott before, remember?" Wren said and Malia nodded, "I'm trying." She said still frustrated as all she could really hear was Stiles pacing and the club.

"It's okay. It's okay. Just focus on something. Just focus on the sound of my voice or a single sound around you. All you have to do is try to concentrate. Concentrate-" He was saying but Wren sighed walked over to him and covered his mouth with her hand making him shut up.

Finally Malia was able to concentrate only to hear Scott screaming making their eyes shot open glowing a vibrant blue, "They're killing him!" Malia said panicky making Stiles and Wren look at each other as the lights flickered. "He said Kate has Derek." She said making Stiles and Wren's eyes widen. "That's impossible. It's impossible! That can't be what he said." Wren said and Malia looked at her confused, "Why? Who-who's Kate?" She asked and Wren sighed.

"She's a Hunter. An Argent. And she's supposed to be dead."

๐Ÿ’ฐ

"So, what now?" Stiles asked as Scott walked up to them, "She think she knows where we can find Derek." Scott said as he looked at the girls who were all leaning against the jeep. "She's gonna tell us where?" Malia asked, "Uh actually, she's giving us a guide." Scott said and someone on a motorcycle drove up to them.

"Breaden." Wren said making them all look at her, "You know her?" Stiles asked. "She's a mercenary, she's the girl who saved Isaac from the Alphas." Wren said and Breaden nodded. "Right now, I'm the only one who's gonna take you to La Iglesia." Braeden said making Lydia raise her eyebrows at her, "The Church?" She asked.

"What's "The Church?"

"It's not a place you'll find God."

๐Ÿ’ฐ

The jeep was quite for a moment as they followed Braeden until Malia spoke up, "Okay, I'll ask... Who's Kate Argent?" Malia asked leaning forward and Kira raised her hand slightly, "Uh, I'd like to know, too..." She asked awkwardly. "Well, we were at her funeral, so I'd like to know how she got out of a casket that was buried six feet underground." Stiles said as he glanced over at Scott who shook his head, "She was never in it." He said and Lydia sighed softly.

"She was Allison's aunt... and a total sociopath." Wren said after a few second, "You don't have to talk about it now if you don't want to..." Kira said and Malia looked at her. "Um, yes, he does!" She said and Scott nodded, "Yeah, she's right. You guys should know. You need to know." He said and Wren sighed.

"Kate was the one who set the fire that killed most of Derek's family. Some of them survived, like Cora and Peter." Wren explained and Lydia chucked, "A very angry Peter." She said and they nodded. "Yeah, he's the one who bit and turned me-" Scott said and Lydia interjected, "And the one who finally caught up to Kate and killed her."

"And we saw her buried." Stiles said and Scott shook his head, "No... We saw a casket, remember? She wasn't in it. The Calaveras heard that Kate had been killed by an Alpha's claws. They wanted to make sure she was really dead. Her body was healing, more and more, as she got closer to the full moon. She was coming back. So, they switched the bodies. If a Hunter is bit, they have to take their own life before they change. The Calaveras... they treat the Code like law. They make it their responsibility to enforce it."

"Good for her! I wouldn't do it, either." Malia said making Scott glance at her, "Would you kill a half-dozen people to get out? Because that's what she did." Scott said. "So, Kate's a Werewolf now?" Kira asked and Scott sighed, "I don't know. You know, there's a saying... "Sometimes, the shape you take reflects the person you are."

"What kind of shape is a murdering sociopathic bitch?" Wren asked and then all of the sudden it felt like they had hit something making the jeep rock a bit as Stiles pulled out and everyone instantly got out.

"What happened?" Braeden asked after she climbed off the bike, "I dont know- it felt like we hit something." Stiles looked around the car. "Scott, we need to get there by night. It's too dangerous, otherwise." Braeden said making Scott sigh and look at them conflicted, "Go." Stiles said and Scott shook his head. "Not without you."

"Dude, someone needs to find Derek. We'll figure something out. We always do. Just go. Scott you have to go." Stiles said and Scott nodded as Kira walked up up to him. They talked for a moment before hugging and Scott went off with Braeden.

Wren glanced around then crouched down next to the tire before noticing something, "Stiles, I don't think we hit something- I think something hit us." She said pulling out what looked like a sharp bone, "What the hell is that?" Stiles asked.

Stiles started getting to work on the jeep and Wren stood across from him. "You sure you know what you're doing?" She asked and he glanced up at her. "It's my jeep, of course I do." He said and she just raised her eyebrows at him, "Maybe we should just walk." Wren said making him look up at her with a slight glare.

"Hey, I will never abandon this Jeep! You understand me? Ever. Ever. Ever." He said, getting back to work. Lydia turned around and grabbed something out of the tool box and looked like she was gonna throw it at him before setting it down and rubbing the back of her neck making Wren chuckle.

"Work faster, Stiles..." Malia said looking out in the distance, "There's something out here with us." She said and Wren moved to stand next to her looking around.

๐Ÿ’ฐ

"Lydia, could you please hold the light still for a second? It's really hard to see anything if you keep shaking it like that..." Stiles said making Lydia give him a look. "I'm shaking it this way because we're in the middle of nowhere with your broken down Jeep, and we're being attacked by yet another razor-clawed monster, and I'm terrified." She said.

"Well, just be slightly less terrified... And hold this." Stiles said handing Lydia something he pulled out, "What's this?" She asked. "I don't know. I'm hoping it's not important." He said making Wren sighed softly and close her eyes for a moment.

"Anything?" Kira asked walking up to Wren and Malia, "It's too hard to see. We should've brought another flashlight." Malia said. Kira walked over to the head lights and reflected the lights off of her katana. Looking out in the distance they see a figure moving. Malia growled and ran forward making Wren's eyes widen, "Malia!" She yelled, running after her ignoring Stiles called after her.

Wren looked around, cautiously as she didn't see Malia anywhere. "Malia!" She called out as she started walking down a path way. Suddenly someone grabbed her shoulder making her instantly spin around to see Malia, " Ugh, it's me. It's me." Malia said, holding her side. Wren looked down and instantly noticed the deep gash making her eyes widen as she grabbed Malia's arm.

"What the hell happened? What did you see?" She asked and Malia shook her head, "I don't know, but it's big and fast-And it cuts deep." Malia said and Wren glanced around for a moment before grabbing Malia's arm and wrapping it around her shoulder.

"You.... You, please don't do that ever again!" Stiles said, looking at Wren who sat next to him as he started driving. She sighed and rolled her eyes slightly before turning to Malia, "What he said but to you. Never." She said making Malia furrow her brows, "Do what?"

"I thought you just took off. I thought you were running." Wren said and Malia nodded, "I was running." She said making Wren sigh and shake her head. "No, like, I thought you were leaving." She said and Malia shook her head, "I wouldn't leave without you."

"Really?" Wren asked surprised, "I would never leave without you. Them, I would leave." She said gesturing to Lydia and Kira making them look at her offended while Wren and Stiles looked at each other. "Progress." They both said at the same time while nodding.

"That doesn't look good." Lydia said leaning over to look at Malia's cut, "It's okay." Malia nodded and Kira raised her eyebrows, "Are you sure: It looks deep." Kira said. "I can feel it healing." Malia said, "You didn't see anything?" Lydia asked and Malia shook her head.

"Barely... It had a strong scent, though." She said and Wren raised her eyebrows, "Like what?" She asked. "Like death." She said as they pulled up to the church right as Braeden and Scott came running out. Blake ran up to them but froze when she saw Derek. "Is that him? Is that Derek?" Malia asked looking at Stiles and Wren, "Uh... Sort of..." Stiles said as they all stared at Derek.

Or to be more specific, a 17-year-old Derek Hale.
