Chapter Two
🐺 Second Chance At First Line 🐺

Wren sat at the top of the bleachers with her leg on top of the other as she wrote in her journal. Allison and Lydia went back to their houses after school so Wren had to watch alone, which she was used to.

Scott, gazing off with far too many thoughts swirling in his head, doesn't notice the other players backing up behind him. "McCall, let's go!" Coach yelled making Scott pay attention, realizing he's at the head of the line. Coach tosses the ball and Scott goes for the shot as Wren glanced up. Jackson comes at him with a volley of slap checks making Wren cringe and sigh softly, "Still want to be first line, McCall?"

Gritting his teeth in anger, Scott looks up to reveal his brown eyes are rapidly brightening to yellow Wren caught a glimpse at them for only a moment making her furrow her brows. "McCall, my grandmother can move faster than that and she's dead! Can you move faster than the lifeless corpse of my dead grandmother, McCall?"

"Yes, Coach." Scott said lowly and Coach raised his eyebrows, "I can't hear you." He said. "Yes, Coach!" Scott said louder, "Then do it again!" Coach said and Scott went back to the start of the line. Stiles looked at him worriedly before looking over at the bleachers at Wren who was watching the team. The whistle blows and Scott shoots forward again as Coach tosses the ball to him.

An oblivious Jackson goes for a cross check, heading for Scott with his stick horizontal even as the smaller boy
hurtles toward him with ferocious speed. They collide like two goats locking horns. Both go down, Jackson yelling as he hits the ground. The sickening sound of bone dislodging from socket sends a cringe through Coach. While everyone else runs over to check on Jackson, Stiles hurries to Scott's side.

"Are you okay?" Stiles asks but Scott wouldn't lift his head, wouldn't reveal his face to Stiles underneath the helmet. "Scott?" His head tilts up to reveal the sharpened teeth jutting out from his lower jaw. "It's happening. I can't control it. It's happening."

"What? Right here? Now? Come on, get up." Stiles said before pulling Scott up and running towards the locker rooms as Wren walked down the bleachers. She watched them run off and furrowed her brows before glancing over at Jackson.

The door to the darkened locker room clangs open, Stiles dragging a hunched over Scott inside. "Scott, you okay?" Stiles asked as he crouched down next to Scott but Scott looked up at him with glowing yellow eyes and canines.

"Get away from me!" He yelled, his voice comes out with a frighteningly demonic rasp, head snapping around as if to rip out the other boy's throat. Stiles gladly retreats back, almost stumbling over his own feet at the sight of Scott's eyes. The sounds coming from him are painful, animalistic and frighteningly aggressive.

Turning back, Scott doubles over in pain. He tears off his lacrosse gloves to reveal his sharpened claws. Stiles keeps stepping away in fear, accidentally backing into a fire extinguisher against the wall. The clang if metal causes Scott to whip his head around. He hurtles toward Stiles, rounding the corner of the lockers, jumping onto the wood bench and up but then all the sudden he's blasted by a dry power.

"Stiles?" Scott asks making Stiles look back at Scott on the floor, chest heaving with each difficult breath. He pulls the helmet off to reveal he's back to normal, face drenched with sweat. "What happened?" He asked and Stiles sighed, "You tried to kill me. It's like I told you. It's the anger, your pulse rising. They're all triggers."

"But that's lacrosse. It's a pretty violent game if you hadn't noticed." Scott said and Stiles shook his head, "Well, it will be lot more violent if you end up killing someone. Scott, you can't play Saturday. You have to get out of the game." He said and Scott shook his head. "But I'm first line." He said and Stiles sighed, "Not anymore." He said.

"What the hell?!" Someone said making them spin around to find Wren standing in the door way. "Wren! How much did you see?" Stiles asked making her give him a look before turning to Scott, "You're a werewolf?" She asked making her eyes widen.

"Wha- A werewolf? What are you talking about? Those aren't real. Not at all. I mean, how could werewolves be real?" Stiles rambled making Wren raise her eyebrows at him, "Stiles, I'm not stupid." She said and he sighed. "Yeah, I know..." He said and she glanced between the two, "I'm gonna need you guys to explain everything. Including why you didn't tell your best friend." She said and they nodded.

"We know." They both said at the same time.

🐺

"Come here, come here." Stiles says as he grabbed Scott's shoulders and he leads Scott around the corner where they can both see down the hall to the principal talking to Sheriff Stilinski and one his Deputies. "Can you hear what they're saying?"

Scott focuses, attempting to tune in the voices, "Animal attacks...just don't
want the kids out... 9:30pm......institute the curfew." He heard Stilinski say then turn to Stiles. "A curfew. Because of the body." Scott said and Stiles scoffs and starts walking.

"Seriously unbelievable. My Dad's out looking for a rabid animal while the jerkoff who actually killed the girl is just hanging out doing whatever he wants." Stiles ranted and Scott sighed. "You can't exactly tell your Dad the truth about Derek." He said and a lightbulb went off over Stiles' head, "I can do something." He said.

"Like what?" Scott asked, looking at Stiles confused, "Like find the other half of the body." Stiles says making Scott look at him crazy as Stiles walked away.

🐺

Stiles quickly ran into the McCall household, not even stopping to close the front door as he ran up to Scott's room. "What did you find? How did you find it? Where did you find it? And, yes, I've had a lot of Adderall, so..." Stiles said quickly and Scott looked up at him while fixing the net on his lacrosse stick that Derek ripped earlier.

"I found something at Derek Hale's." Scott said making Stiles' eyes widen, "Are you kidding? What?" Stiles asked. "There's something buried out there. I could smell blood." Scott said and Stiles raised his hands slightly, "That's awesome! ...I mean, that's terrible. Whose blood?" He asked and Scott shrugged slightly as he stood up.

"I don't know... But, when we do, your dad nails Derek for the murder. And then, you help me figure out how to play lacrosse without changing, because there's no way I'm not playing that game."

🐺

Scott and Stiles walked into the hospital and Stiles glanced around before noticing the doors to the hallway of the morgue. "Hey." He said, patting Scott's arm making Scott look over at the doors and nod, "Okay." He said and Stiles starts to walk away. "Good luck, I guess." Stiles said and Scott nodded before quickly slipping into the hall.

Standing outside in the corridor, Stiles looks to the waiting area and does a double take. Wren sits in one of the chairs with Lydia sitting next to her. Lydia was talking in the phone while Wren had her feet up on her chair as she wrote in her notebook, earbuds in her ears, which Stiles couldn't see. Stiles took a deep breath and nodded to himself before walking up to them.

"Hey, Wren..." He said awkwardly and Wren slightly looked up but not as him as she was thinking. "We've been best friends since third grade and I always thought that we just had this kind of connection. Maybe it'd be kind of cool to... you know... try something more than just friends..." Stiles rambled and that's when Wren noticed him standing there.

She quickly pulled her earbuds out making his eyes widen slightly as she cringed slightly. "Please don't tell me that you were talking to me this whole time and I was completely donowalling you." She said and he smiled awkwardly and shook his head. "No, no. I was just uh- rambling about you know, the usual stuff." He said and she raised her eyebrows, "If you want I can move over there and we can talk." She said and he shook his head.

"No, no. You sit with your sister, I'll just sit over here." He said before sitting down around the corner and she furrowed her brows slightly before getting up and moving to sit next to him. "What are you doing here?" She asked and he sighed, "Scott went to Derek's house and smelt blood. We think Derek might have barried the other half if the body. He checking to see if the blood smell matches." He said.

She was about to say something but Jackson comes around the corner and walks over to Lydia as he’s massaging his shoulder. "Did he do it?" Lydia asked as she stood up, "He said not to make a habit of it, but one cortisone shot won't kill me." He said and she hummed slightly. "You should get one right before the game, too. The pros do it all the time." Lydia said and Jackson rolled his eyes, "You want to be a little high school amateur? Or... do you want to go... pro...?" Lydia said before she pulls him into a kiss.

"Wren, let's go." Lydia said as she pulled away, "I'm gonna stay here with Stiles." Wren said and Lydia nodded before wrapping her arms around Jackson's arm. As they walked off Scott suddenly walked up to them, "The scent was the same." He said making Stiles' eyes widen.

"You're sure?" Stiles asked as he and Wren stood up, "Yes." Scott said. "So, he did bury the other half of the body on his property?" Stiles asked as they started walking down the hallway, "Which means we have proof he killed the girl." Scott said. "I say we use it." Stiles said making Wren raise her eyebrows, "How?" She asked and Stiles looked at Scott.

"Tell me something first- are you doing this because you want to stop Derek, or because you want to play in the game and he said you couldn't?" Stiles asked, "There are bite marks on the legs, Stiles- bite marks." Scott said and Stiles nodded

"Okay. Then we're gonna need a shovel."

🐺

Derek walked out of the Hale House ruins towards his Camaro, and driving away, not knowing that Scott, Stiles and Wren were watching him from a distance in Stiles' Jeep. Once Derek was a fair distance away from the house, Stiles drove the Jeep closer to the property, before they all got out, the boys with their shovels in hand.

"Wait..." Scott said as he stopped making Stiles and Wren stop to look back at him, "Something's different." He said and Wren raised her eyebrows. "Different how?" She asked and Scott furrowed his brows and shook his head slightly,  I don't know..." He said before they started walking over to the pile of dirt again.

"Let's just get this over with."

A little while later the boys had most of the grave dug up while Wren sat at the edge of the whole holding a light. "This is taking way too long." Scott said as he glanced around, "Just keep going." Stiles said. "What if he comes back?" Scott asked and Stiles shrugged slightly, "Then we get the hell out of here." He said.

"What if he catches us?" Scott asked and Stiles nodded, "I have a plan for that." He said making Wren raise her eyebrows. "Which is?" She asked and the Boyd both stopped digging, "Scott run one way. Wren and I run the other. Whoever he catches first? Too bad." Stiles said and Wren made a face.

"That sounds like a terrible plan." Wren said and Scott nodded in agreement, "I hate that plan." He said as he and Stiles started digging again until Stiles shovel hit something.

"Oh, stop, stop, stop." Stiles said and Wren leaned forward slightly at Scott and Stiles kneeled down to brush dirt away. They eventually uncover what looks like a bundle of a rough fabric, like burlap, which has been tied closed with the twine rope. Stiles starts to try to untie the bindings, and Scott, still on edge with fear that Derek is going to come back and catch them, impatiently urges Stiles on.

"Hurry!" Scott said, "I'm trying. Did he have to tie the thing in, like, nine hundred knots?" Stiles said and Wren sighed before jumping down. "I'll do it." She said before easily untying the knots before standing up, "Okay, that's all I'm touching." She said before climbing out of the hole.

The boys pulled back the cloth before yelling and jumping out of the hole. Wren looked at them weird before looking at down to see the head of a wolf making her furrow her brows. "What the hell is that?" Stiles asked, "It's a wolf." Scott said making Stiles nodded dramatically

"Yeah, I can see that. I thought you said you smelled blood, as in human blood?" Stiles asked and Scott shrugged slightly, "I told you something was different..." He said and Wren furrowed her brows. "This doesn't make sense." She mumbled and Scott sighed, "We gotta get out of here." He said and Stiles nodded.

"Yeah. Okay, help me cover this up." Stiles said and Wren glanced around before tilting her head slightly, "You see that flower?" She asked, nodding towards a purple flower not far away from the grave. "What about it?" Scott asked as he looked at it confused, "It's wolfsbane." She said and Scott still looked confused.

"What's that?" Scott asked making both Stiles and Wren look at him incredulously, "Uh... haven't you ever seen The Wolf Man?" Stiles asked and Scott shook his head. "No?" He said and Wren raised her eyebrows, "Lon Chaney, Junior? Claude Rains?" She asked and Scott shook his head slightly making Stiles squint at him.

"The original, classic Werewolf movie?" Stiles asked making Scott sigh impatiently, "No!" He said making Stiles scoff. "You are so unprepared for this." He said and Wren nodded in agreement as Stiles got up. He walked over to the flower, pulling the entire plant up by the roots before he started pulling up twine rope attached to the flower.

He gently pulls up the rope, which has randomly placed wolfsbane petals attached at various points along the length of it. The long length of it buried around the grave in a spiral pattern which glows red as Stiles unravels it. Scott watched Stiles while Wren glanced down before gasping slightly, "Guys..." She said making them look at her.

They follow her line of sight to find the wolf no where to be seen. Instead there was the lifeless body of a woman staring up at them.

🐺

Wren and Lydia walked up to the lacrosse and Lydia made a beeline to Scott, Wren following behind her. Lydia snakes two fingers into Scott's chest plate and pulls him close to her making Wren raise her eyebrows. "I just want you to remember one thing for tonight." Lydia said and Scott raised his eyebrows slightly, "Winning isn't everything?" He asked nervously.

"Nobody likes a loser." Lydia said before letting him go, smiling at her sister before walking off. "Your sister is scary sometimes." Scott mumbled making Wren chuckle before he ran out onto the field while Wren sat down next to Stiles. "Hey, kid. Hey, Wren." Sheriff said patting Stiles on the shoulder and Wren smiled at him. "So, you think you'll see any action tonight?" He asked and Stiles shook his head slightly, "Action maybe."

The whistle blows sending Jackson, Scott and the team charging off the bench and on to the field. Stiles remains with the other bench warmers, nervously chewing the fingers of his gloves until Wren took it away from him. Out on the field Scott walks out to take his position and pulls his helmet down and briefly closes his eyes.

Glaring at him from underneath his own helmet, Jackson walks confidently on to the field then turns his back to Scott. The Ref slowly brings the whistle to his lips and Jackson tightens his grip on his stick, teeth clenched down on his mouth guard as the whistle blows. Jackson quickly scoops up the ball before the opposing player even has a chance to blink. Scott moves fast, darting around the others, getting open for a pass as quickly as he can but Jackson tosses the ball to another teammate.

Slap checks come down hard on Beacon Hills and the ball rolls across the grass, loose for anyone to grab. Scott hurries forward to take it, but Jackson is there first, completely stealing the ball from Scott. Whipping his stick around, Jackson hurls a shot toward the opposing goal. The ball hits the net and the crowd on the bleachers cheers, shouts for Jackson erupting among them.

"That's it, Jackson! Get fired up! Fired up!" Coach yelled as Lydia whispered something to Allison. The two girls reach down and pick up a poster board raising it high above their heads. The poster reads: We luv u Jackson!

The whistle blows again but as fast as Scott moves, the ball never seems to find its way into his pocket. He keeps trying, one play after another, never getting the ball. Standing with his gloves twisting around the stick, Scott looked like he’s about to snap it into little pieces. When the whistle blow again, he looks up, his eyes turning yellow.

At the start of the next quarter, the Ref comes walking past the players with the ball but pauses when he was about to pass Scott. Scott stood hunched-over, face masked in shadow under his helmet. "You okay, kid?" The ref asked and Scott nodded slowly nodded, the ref started to walk away, glancing back at Scott one more time.

Scott’s body seems to rise with each breath, as if he’s about to launch off the ground to attack. Unnerved, the other players take tentative steps back. Wren glanced back to see Allison reluctantly helping Lydia hold up the sign which read; JACKSON IS #1!!

"Oh, that's brutal..." Wren said making Stiles glance back before they looked over at Scott. Scott looked over at the stands to see Allison holding up the sign for Jackson and that does it for him.

Both teams prepare for the draw and strange noises can now be heard on the field. Low growling, animalistic gasps. Scott's body seems to rise with each breath, as if he's about to launch off the ground to attack. Unnerved, the other players take tentative steps back. Wren sighed softly as she and
