HANGE'S KNUCKLES MADE CONTACT WITH THE WOODEN DOOR, KNOCKING ON IT A FEW TIMES BEFORE OPENING IT AND STEPPING IN. She shut the door behind her and called out for the girl.
"F/n," she sang with a smile, "I brought food!"
There was no response and so Hange called again, this time with a questioning tone.
"F/n?"
But she still received no response. Instead, she heard a few heavy pants in the room and turned her head to the source of the noise. She opened her mouth and closed it before opening it back, unable to form words.
"F/n..." she muttered, quickly approaching the girl after setting the tray of food down on the table, "F/n. Wake up."
Hange shook the girl's shoulder as she squirmed under her touch, drops of sweat dripping down her forehead and onto the already stained pillow. Her hair was spread out on the soft object, damp from the sweat that had formed.
Her eyebrows were furrowed and her eyes were clenched shut, teeth biting down the inner part of her lips as if trying to resist some sort of pain.
The scientist pushed up her glasses before giving her another shake. F/n jolted up awake, gasping for air as she did so. Hange wrapped her arms around the younger's small figure, hugging her tight as she sobbed against her shoulders.
After a few whispers and gentle strokes on her back, F/n regained her regular breathing. Hange gave her a glass of water before sitting on the bed beside her, looking at her while she looked down on her lap.
"What happened?" she asked.
F/n said nothing but glanced at her, blinking once before retreating her gaze on her lap. Hange stayed patiently quiet though, knowing that the woman would speak one way or another.
She took in a deep breath before releasing it shakily. She swallowed her saliva, almost letting out an audible noise if not for her resisting slightly.
"Nightmare," she said, "Bad and..."
"Scary?" Hange finished and she nodded, "What is it about."
When Hange asked her the question, she didn't know what to expect. But this is certainly the least she expected her to respond with.
"Someone killed me."
"What?" Hange blurted out, "Who?"
"I don't know," she said, "Captain Levi said he doesn't know too."
"Levi?!" she ridiculously let out, "Shorty knew about this and didn't bother to tell us? How dare he..."
After muttering a few curse words under her breath, she turned back at F/n who looked like she was lost at the moment.
"What else?" she asked, dismissing the fact that she cursed in front of the girl who didn't know anything. Though, she was still finding out, based on the experiment she conducted.
"I see myself but I don't look like myself," she said, "Levi said it's my reflection but you don't look like yourself."
"And?" Hange asked, continuing when she noticed the woman's confused expression, "What did you look like?"
"A girl," she said and added, "pretty."
"You look pretty now too, F/n," the scientist smiled when the woman glanced at her, "You're really pretty."
She pursed her lips, shifting her gaze back to her lap where her fiddling fingers lay. She drew in a sharp breath before continuing on.
"Levi said I was a soldier but I don't look like myself when I look at myself in the... um..."
"Mirror?" Hange guessed and she shook her head.
"Sword!" F/n smiled at remembering the word Levi had taught her, "But there is another one. A person pulled my hair and it hurt. I think I cry."
"You cried?" she asked and F/n nodded her head, "Are you still sad?"
F/n shook her head, hair falling in front of her eyes before she tucked her hair behind. She contemplated whether to speak of her dream or not while debating with herself internally.
But before she could continue, her stomach made a gurgling sound, causing her to tighten her hold of herself against her abdomen. Hange laughed, standing up and taking the tray of food.
"I came here with food," she said, handing her a steamed potato as she took the glass out of her hand, "Are you better now?"
F/n tilted her head at the word 'better' but decided to nod her head anyway, taking another large bite of the nicely steamed potato. The woman continued to munch happily on her food, bobbing her head up and down and her legs swung back and forth.
Opposite of the female, Hange was in deep thought, deep thought about theories she could use on F/n.
Perhaps the book about F/n being a royal was true. For that reason, many things could be proved like how she couldn't transform into a Titan or how her eyes would glow purple sometimes.
That was why she had theorised the 'death theory', the theory where the woman cannot die unless being cut in the nape, just enough for the head to slice off.
Hange blinked, averting her gaze from the white ceiling to the young woman beside her. She swiped a finger across her cheek, wiping the bread crumbs from her lightly tinted cheeks.
She had grown so much healthier than when they first met. She wasn't skinny anymore, just enough to look like a normal human. She wasn't frail anymore, she was strong and perhaps even stronger than some people.
She was healthy and Hange felt the pride in her rose after seeing how much she had helped her. And then an idea struck her like a pile of bricks. She thoughtfully bit her lips.
These dreams she said she had been seeing could possibly be her past experiences, the life she had before this one or just typical nightmares that seem real but aren't.
It might not seem much but perhaps they could gather information from her that could save humanity.
But F/n also stated that the dreams she had been experiencing were dreams where she was always glancing at her own reflection only to realise that it was not her reflection she was looking at.
Again, it could be just her experiencing actual nightmares but there would also be a slim chance that she was actually seeing events from people's views. It is a very slim chance, very unlikely and very unbelievable.
But Hange was completely intrigued with her and her life. And after some more thinking, she had concluded into one whole statement.
She could be the Lady L/n the book had claimed her to be.
