Chapter Nine
"Okay. I wanna run through it one more time." Nancy said as she, Jeanette, Steve, Robin, Eddie and Dustin sat in the camper. It was dark out now and they had dropped Max, Lucas and Erica off at the Creel house a little while ago.
"Phase one." Nancy said as she turned to everyone, "We meet Erica at the playground. She'll signal Max and Lucas when we're ready." Robin said and Nancy nodded. "Phase two." She said, "Max beits Vecna. He'll go after her, which'll put him in his trance." Steve said. "Phase three?" Nancy asked, "Dustin, Eddie and I draw the bats away." Jeanette said and Eddie looked at her with a small smile as he patted the top of Dustin's head.
"Four." Nancy said, "We head into Vecna's newly fat-free lair, and... flambΓ©." Robin said as she lightly shook a molotov cocktail. "Nobody moves on to the next phase until we've all copied. Nobody deviates from the plan, no matter what. Got it?" Nancy asked and they all nodded, "Got it." They all said before they grabbed their stuff.
A little while later they quickly ran into Eddie's trailer, looking up at the gate on the ceiling. "Be careful." Dustin said, looking at Steve, "Thanks, buddy." Steve said, lightly patting Dustin's chest. "Here goes nothing." Steve said before he started climbing up the sheet rope.
One he got through the gate, he flipped down into the Upside Down before looking through the gate, giving the group a slight look before walking away, making the girls roll their eyes. "What does he want us to do, applaud?" Robin asked sarcastically, making Nancy and Jeanette look at her in amusement.
Steve dragged over the Upside Down world version of the mattress and dropped it underneath the gate. "Alright. Let's go." Steve said and Nancy took off her backpack while Robin got down on one knee to give Nancy a boost. Nancy climbed up and once she got through the gate she fell to the bed and Steve helped her up.
Then Nancy and Steve's bags got tossed through the gate, landing on the mattress. Eddie climbed through, fell to the mattress, followed by his stuff once he moved. Jeanette was next and once she passed through the gate gravity shifted for her and she fell to the mattress.
Eddie held his hand out to her, making her smile at him and grab his hand before he pulled her up. They stared at each other for a moment before her bow and quiver of arrows got tossed through the gate, making her quickly catch them before she could lose any arrows.
Robin fell through next, followed by her supplies and then Dustin and Eddie's spears, which Eddie quickly grabbed. Dustin went through last and barely had anytime to do anything really before they pretty much yanked him up.
The group walked out the trailer before Steve turned to Jeanette, Eddie and Dustin. "Hey, guys, listen. If things here start to go south, I mean, at all, you abort. Okay? Draw the attention of the bats. Keep 'em busy for a minute or two. We'll take care of Vecna. Don't try to be cute or be a hero or something. Okay? You guys are just-"
"Decoys." Steve and Dustin both said at the same time, "Don't worry. You can be the hero, Steve." Dustin said and Eddie nodded slightly. "Absolutely, I mean... look at us." Eddie said as he glanced at Dustin, "We are not heroes." He said, making Jeanette tilt her head slightly as he looked at her. "Except for Jeanette." He quickly added, making her hum slightly before she stepped forward and patted Steve's shoulder.
"Don't worry, you might start to lose the pretty hair of yours, Steve. We'll be here when you guys get back, waiting to hear about how Nancy and Robin probably had to save your ass." Jeanette said, making Steve laugh sarcastically and walk away from her. Robin quickly and tightly hugged Jeanette and Nancy smiled at her before they started to walk away.
"Hey, Steve." Eddie said, making them stop and look at him, "Make him pay." Eddie said and Steve nodded at him before he, Nancy and Robin walked away.
Jeanette, Eddie and Dustin quickly got to work with boarding up every point of entrance of the trailer. They drilled giant sheets of metal in front of all the windows and everywhere else a bat could get through. Once they were done, the three of them stepped back to look at their work before smiling proudly.
"Not bad." Eddie said and Jeanette nodded, "Not bad at all." She said, making him look at her with a smile as she did the same whole wrapped her arm around Dustin's shoulders. "Now for the fun part." He said before the three of them walked back into the trailer.
They walked into Eddie's room and paused slightly, "Jesus Christ..." Eddie mumbled slightly. "It's like... she was destined for an alternate dimension." Eddie said as he slowly walked over to where his Warlock NJ Series electric guitar hung in the wall, clear of any vines. "What do you say, Bingham, Henderson?" Eddie asked before grabbing the guitar, "Are you guys ready for the most metal concert in the history of the world?" Eddie asked as he turned to look at them.
"That a rhetorical question?" Dustin asked and Eddie puth the guitar strap around himself, "Let's do it." He said before tossing the guitar over his shoulder.

"She's in. Move into phase three." Robin said as her voice came through the walkie talkie, "Copy that. Initiating phase three." Dustin said into the walkie-talkie before grabbing an extension cord and plugging in a giant speaker. "Let's hope they hear this." Dustin said before adjusting the knobs on the speaker before nodding at Eddie.
Before Eddie could do anything, Jeanette quickly got up from where she was sitting, "Wait, hold on a second." She said before quickly walking over to Eddie, "If anything happens, I'll regret not doing this sooner." She mumbled slightly. He went to say something but she grabbed the side of his face and pulled him down into a kiss. Eddie was shocked for a moment, nearly frozen before it fully set on to what was happening.
He gently grabbed her waist as he kissed her back before she slowly pulled away, lightly biting her lip as she looked at him. "Had to do that at least once in case things go bad." She said and he smiled at her as she stepped back over to where she was previously.
Eddie took a deep breath before grabbing his necklace, which was a guitar pick. "Chrissy, this is for you." Eddie said, making Jeanette smile softly as he ripped his necklace off before yelling out slightly as he started playing the guitar. Dustin and Jeanette lowered to their knees in front of the speakers, watching as Eddie started playing Master of Puppets by Metallica.
Red lightly flashed above them, making Eddie look pretty badass as he rocked out to the song. Dustin and Jeanette smiled as they slightly nodded their heads to the music. After a moment, Jeanette grabbed a pair of binoculars before looking out in the distance, waiting until she could see the bats.
The moment she could see them, she quickly handed Dustin the binoculars as she looked at Eddie. "Eddie!" She yelled, making him look over at her, "We gotta lock down in T-minus thirty seconds!" She said and he nodded, continuing on with the song. "T-minus twenty!" Dustin yelled as he held up both his hands, one with two fingers as a zero.
Eddie nodded before he pretty much shredded a guitar solo. "T-minus ten!" Dustin yelled, holding up one finger and a zero. Now the bats were so close, they didn't need the binoculars to see them but Eddie just kept going. "Five!... One!" Dustin yelled and Eddie finished the song, letting it echo through the speakers.
"Move! Move! Move!" Eddie yelled as the three of them quickly climbed off the roof of the trailer, onto a truck and off the truck. "Come on!" Jeanette yelled as they quickly made a beeline for the porch, "Eddie, shut it!" Jeanette yelled and Eddie quickly slammed the door of the gate of the porch close, blocking the bats.
They quickly ran inside, slamming the door shut and leaning against the wall as they breathed heavily. "Dude! Most metal ever!" Dustin said before he and Eddie started jumping up and down while yelling, making Jeanette laugh as she watched them.
The boys stopped jumping and Dustin continued yelling while Eddie turned to Jeanette. Jeanette was barely able to smile at him before he grabbed her hips and pressed his lips to hers, making her smile into the kiss. After a moment they pulled away and stared at each other for a moment, "I can't wait until the weekend." He said, making Jeanette laugh softly and shake her head slightly.
A little while later, after the excitement and adrenaline started to wear off, Dustin and Eddie stood back to back with their spike shields and spears. Jeanette stood nearby with her bow and an arrow knocked, ready to release it as all they could hear were bats screeching and slamming against the trailer from the outside, until all of the sudden the noise got quieter.
"Hey, dipshits! Give up that easy, huh?" Dustin yelled, making Eddie shush him, "Is that really necessary?" Eddie asked as he and Dustin glanced back at each other. Dustin wasn't able to respond when it sounded like some of the bats landed on the roof.
"They're on the roof." Jeanette said as they all looked up, "Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit." Dustin mumbled as they listened to the sound of creaks coming from the bats moving around. The three of them slowly followed the direction that sounded like the bats were heading in until they noticed a small vent in the ceiling.
"Eddie... Please tell me they can't get through that." Jeanette said as she pointed her bow and arrow at it and the moment she said that, the head of a bat suddenly slammed through the vent. Jeanette immediately let loose the arrow, hitting the bat dead center of the head, making its body go limp.
But before they could even feel a moment of relief, a couple other bats managed to push their brethren's body away before trying to squeeze through the vent. Eddie and Dustin let out a battle scream, rushing forward to repeatedly stab the bat with their spears.
When their spears weren't doing much damage, Eddie pulled back and glanced around while Jeanette nocked another arrow. "Eddie! I need you!" Dustin yelled as he kept stabbing the bats and Eddie grabbed a chair. "Get out of the way! Get out of the way!" Eddie yelled, making Dustin move back before Eddie pulled the chair over and climbed on top of it.
He took his spiked shield, let out a battle cry before slamming the spikes against the ceiling, around the small vent. The screeches got quiet and Eddie let go of the shield and it stayed on the ceiling. "Holy shit. Holy shit." Eddie said as he turned and looked at Dustin and Jeanette, "Awesome." Jeanette said.
"Thanks. Nice shot." Eddie said as he held out both his hands for them to high five him before realization crossed over Dustin's features. "Are there any other vents?" He asked and Eddie's eyes widened, "Oh shit." He whispered before he quickly jumped off the chair.
He quickly ran towards his room, making Dustin and Jeanette follow him, but the moment they stepped in, dozens of bats shot through the vent at the corner of the room. They quickly moved back and Eddie slammed the door shut but it wasn't going to hold the bats for long. "That won't hold!" Jeanette yelled as Eddie grabbed the other shield, "Let's go! Let's go!" Eddie yelled.
Dustin was the first one to start climbing up the sheet rope while Jeanette and Eddie kept an eye on the door. Once Dustin got through, Jeanette put her bow around her shoulders and grabbed the rope, "Go! Go! Go!" Eddie yelled as she started climbing as quickly as she could. The moment she passed through the gate, she fell to the mattress and quickly got off.
"Eddie, come on!" Dustin yelled as Eddie moved towards the sheet rope. He dropped his spear and shield before grabbing onto the rope and started to climb before he stopped and looked at the door. "Eddie, come on! Let's go!" Jeanette called out, making Eddie look at her and Dustin, "Eddie, you're so close. Come on, let's go!" Dustin yelled but Eddie looked back at the door.
He slowly lowered back down, making Jeanette and Dustin look at him both alarmed and confused. "Eddie." Jeanette said, and he looked back up at them for a moment before moving away from the rope. "Eddie! What are you doing!" Dustin yelled as Eddie grabbed his spear, "Eddie! Don't!" Jeanette yelled before Eddie cut the rope, making it fall to the ground on both sides.
"Eddie! Eddie, stop! Stop!" Both Jeanette and Dustin yelled as Eddie moved the mattress away, "Eddie, what are you doing?" Jeanette asked as Eddie grabbed his shield before looking up at them. "I'm buying more time." He said and she shook her head, "Stop!" She said and he smiled at her.
"Can't wait for this weekend." He said before putting the shield on his back and running off, "Eddie!" Jeanette yelled.
