I swung my legs over the side of the bed and stood up, heading straight to the bathroom. Looking in the mirror, I saw the usual: my hair was a mess, and I had a slight scowl on my face. "Another day," I muttered to myself.
Turning on the faucet, I splashed some cold water on my face, feeling the coolness wake me up a bit more. I brushed my teeth quickly and then hopped into the shower. The warm water helped to fully wake me up, and I took a moment to just stand there, letting it wash away the lingering sleepiness. After washing up, I stepped out, feeling refreshed and ready to face the day.
Back in my room, I picked out my outfit for the day i decided to keep my outfit simple yet stylish. I wore a comfortable gray sweatshirt with slightly oversized sleeves that gave mea relaxed look.
my light-washed jeans had a distressed patch on the left thigh, adding a touch of edginess to my outfit. The jeans were slightly baggy, fitting me just right for both comfort and style. i paired my outfit with a pair of gray sneakers that matched my sweatshirt, completing my casual yet cool look.
I took my headphone off my dresser putting them on my head while blasting my playlist.
When I walked downstairs, I saw Reg lounging on the couch, a cigarette dangling from his lips. The smell of smoke filled the room.
"Morning, Kasani," he said, blowing out a puff of smoke.
"Morning, Reg," I replied, grabbing a bowl and pouring myself some cereal.
Reg leaned forward, eyes narrowed. "You know, I ain't happy about you gettin' into fights all the time. You gotta keep a low profile."
I sighed, sitting down at the kitchen table. "I know, but Corey was talkin' shit, I had to handle it."
Reg shook his head, taking another drag. "Just don't make it a habit, alright? We don't need no more trouble."

After breakfast, Jake and I walked to school together. The mornin air was crisp, and the streets were starting to fill with kids making their way to school.
Jake glanced over at me, concern in his eyes. "You think Corey's gonna leave you alone?"
I shrugged, adjusting my backpack. "I hope so. If not, I'll deal with it."
Jake nodded, his expression serious. "Just don't let him get under your skin, okay?"
As we entered the school grounds, I spotted Kevin and Papa waiting for us by the lockers. Kevin flashed me a smile, and Papa greeted us with a nod.
"Hey, Kas," Kevin said, his tone reassuring. "You good?"
I nodded, grateful for their support. "Yeah, thanks."
at lunch
At lunch, I sat with Maisha, watching as Andrea and her friends ignored and made fun of her.
"Hey, leave Maisha alone," I snapped, my voice sharp.
Andrea rolled her eyes but backed off. I turned back to Maisha, giving her a reassuring smile. "Don't let 'em get to you, Maisha.

Kevin watched Andrea from across the cafeteria. "I'mma fuck that," he muttered.
Jake raised an eyebrow. "You mean, ask her out?"
Papa chuckled. "Do it now then."
Kevin shook his head. "Nah, she with her friends and shit."
Jake smirked. "That ain't like you won't catch her alone. You know these pretty bitches wanna pick."
Papa chimed in, "They need to kick Maisha out the group, sitting over there looking like a sea lion on steroids."
Everyone laughed except Kevin. Papa added, "I know Andrea ya girl and all, but I think she actually startin' to feel me," he said, rubbing his chest and standing up.
Kevin pulled him back down. "Sit down, ain't nobody feelin' your fat ass."
Jake laughed, "This like your third meal today."

After lunch, Jake approached Andrea. "Wanna grab some food after school?" he asked casually.

Andrea shrugged. "Sure."
" okay bet" was the only thing jake said before walked off
emmett
Emmett and Keisha were skipping school and fucking in Emmett's room when they heard Emmett's mom come home from work. They quickly scrambled to hide Keisha under the bed just as Emmett's mom knocked on the door.
"Didn't I tell you not to lock doors in my house?" Emmett's mom's voice was stern as she entered the room.
"Yeah, yeah, I remember," Emmett replied nervously, trying to appear nonchalant.
Emmett's mom sat on the bed, looking around the room with a critical eye. "All you do is mess around and get high in here. Who's your friend?" she asked, peering under the bed.
Emmett, caught off guard, tried to play it cool. "Who are you talking to?"
"What's your name, girl?" Emmett's mom persisted.
"Keisha," came a muffled reply from under the bed.
"You hungry, Keisha? You like bacon?" Emmett's mom asked, her tone surprisingly casual.
"Yeah," Keisha responded tentatively.
"Well, too bad the sausage was on sale, so that's what we're having," Emmett's mom joked, using her necklace to retrieve Keisha's thongs from the floor and placing them on Emmett's shoulder. "Help the lady up," she instructed, walking out of the room.
coogie
I was out feeding my dog when I saw a body in the alley way, i move closer and recognize it was Jason's.
I didn't know Jason personally, but everyone around here knew who he was. He had a reputation, the kind of respect that didn't come easy in our neighborhood. So seeing him lying there on the pavement, motionless, it was shocking.
I tied up my dog and walked over, my curiosity mixed with a sense of dread. "Yo, you alright?" I called out, even though I knew he wasn't. As I got closer, I saw the blood. He wasn't moving, his eyes staring blankly up at the sky.
My heart started pounding. This was bad. Really bad.
I looked around, checking if anyone was watching. The streets were empty, but I could hear the faint wail of sirens in the distance. I had to act fast.
My eyes landed on his chain, glinting in the sunlight. It looked expensive. And his shoes, too, brand new. Without thinking, I reached down and took them. It wasn't about stealing; it was survival. Around here, you took what you could get. And besides, nobody was gonna miss them now.
I stuffed the chain in my pocket and slipped on the shoes, my hands shaking the whole time. Just as I was about to leave, I heard the sirens getting closer. Panic surged through me. I jumped on my bike and pedaled away as fast as I could, my heart racing.
As I sped down the street, I didn't look back. All I could think about was getting away. The police would be here any second, and the last thing I needed was to get caught up in whatever had happened to Jason.
I pedaled like my life depended on it, which, in a way, it did. As soon as I was a few blocks away, I skidded into someone's yard and stashed my bike behind some bushes. I threw my hoodie over my afro, hoping it would help me blend in with the people on the street.
I tried to act casual, walking with the crowd, keeping my head down. The sirens were louder now, closer. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. Just when I thought I was in the clear, I heard someone shout, "Hey, you!"
I turned to see a cop barreling toward me. Before I could react, he tackled me to the ground. I hit the pavement hard, the wind knocked out of me. "I ain't do nothing!" I protested, struggling to get free. "I ain't do nothing!"
The cop ignored me, yanking my hands behind my back and slapping on the cuffs. I looked around, seeing people staring, some with pity, others with indifference. I was just another kid caught up in the chaos.
They hauled me to my feet and shoved me toward the patrol car. "It wasn't me!" I yelled, but my words fell on deaf ears. They shoved me into the backseat, slamming the door shut.
As the car pulled away, I could see the place where I stashed my bike getting smaller and smaller.
My heart sank. This wasn't just about getting caught. It was about what would come next. In our neighborhood, getting taken by the cops was just the beginning of your problems.
I leaned back, trying to catch my breath, my mind racing. The chain felt heavy in my pocket, a reminder of how quickly things had spiraled out of control. All I could do now was hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
