Friday, 14th of February, 05:12 AM. Mikumo's Dorm Room.
At long last, it was Valentine's Day!
Mikumo paced around his room, what he had been doing for the past several hours as he mumbled and muttered to himself, biting a pencil anxiously as he tried to clear the mess that was his thoughts.
He just needed to calm down! Stress and panic would not help his mental state, so he really needed to stop.
Mikumo stopped, taking a deep breath.
. . .
And then went right back to pacing, muttering, and pencil biting.
This was not how he wanted this day to be! For starters, he only had half of the items that he wanted to get for Katsuki! All he had was his dumb poorly-written card and stupid homemade liquorice chocolate in a little plastic bag tied with a pink ribbon that didn't even taste good! Not even Kaminari would've eaten that crap!
He couldn't even get Katsuki a nice gift because they stopped manufacturing them on the ONE DAY, he got attacked by Shigaraki. Screw him, thank you very much! And as if that wasn't enough, Mikumo couldn't even get another order of those flowers for him either, because when he went back to the store yesterday, there was a note on the door, reading:
' CLOSED DUE TO PERSONAL REASONS. WILL BE BACK OPEN ON FEBRUARY 16TH. PLEASE DO NOT CALL. UNLESS YOU'RE MASANORI INABA, IN WHICH CASE PLEASE DO CALL ME. I MISS YOU AND WANT MY CAT BACK. '
' NUMBER: XX-XXXX-XXX '
' β HAGA SHIMODA '
So yeah, that sucked.
And then on top of that, just as the icing on the cake, Mikumo couldn't ease his nerves whatsoever. He didn't want to disappoint or let Katsuki down. No, he couldn't let that happen, or else how would he know?
How would he know how much Mikumo...
ALARM SOUND PART THREE! ALARM SOUND PART THREE! ALARM SOUND PART THR-
Mikumo stopped his phone alarm, and bit down the pencil hard. He was such a mess.
Maybe he could quickly run to the store and find something there to replace the flowers and original gift? Mikumo grabbed his phone while continuing to pace, and searched up nearby stores.
But of course, they were all closed, because people actually had lives, and actually wanted to do things on Valentine's Day.
He sighed, finally pausing his pacing and slumping against his bed on the floor.
He just wanted today to be special for Katsuki.
But was he that useless he couldn't even do that much? Make his boyfriend feel special?
He rested his eyelids, letting his head drop down to his knees as they pulled up to his chest. This was hopeless.
He couldn't get Katsuki anything that was worth giving him. He deserved so much, so fucking much, and yet Mikumo couldn't even do the bare minimum. What did Katsuki even see in him anyway?
God, he should've just marched up to Katsuki's dorm right then and there, just to ask him why such an amazing person like him would even look in the same direction as h-
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!
Mikumo's self-degrading thoughts were out to an abrupt stop as he heard the all too familiar sound of violent knocking on his door if you could even call it knocking. It was more like a fist being pounded repeatedly against the poor door.
"Yamikumo~! Can I come in? I'm coming in anyway! Are you changing? I hope you are!" Katsuki then burst into the room, a plastic bag swaying in his hand as he greeted Mikumo so enthusiastically.
Mikumo cracked a small smile. "Katsuki, morning."
The blonde closed the door behind him, just as Mikumo stood back up, quickly chucking away the chewed-up pencil to who knows where while the other wasn't looking.
Just as Mikumo got to his feet, he was immediately swept into a warm embrace, his nostrils filling with that nostalgic faint smell of caramel.
"Mm... good morning, Yami..." Katsuki said as he nuzzled into Mikumo's neck, his words slightly muffled. Mikumo's tenseness almost instantly faded away as he was hugged, giving in to the welcoming feeling.
Before Mikumo could respond, Katsuki gently nudged Mikumo, allowing him to sit down on his bed and eventually fall back onto the soft surface, still keeping him wrapped in his arms.
And they stayed like that for a while, with Katsuki's face buried in his neck, and Mikumo practically used him as a blanket, his hands resting on his back as his face flushed a rosy pink.
Playing with some of Katsuki's hair, he discreetly eyed his bedside table, where his pink Nintendo 3DS and favourite gun were sitting, but that's not what he was focusing on. He focused on the drawer inside the table, where the crappy card and chocolate were tucked away in. As terrible as the chocolate they made was, he hoped that the chocolate hadn't melted again.
This had happened yesterday while he was putting them in the bag, they had started to melt, causing their shape to deform, which Mikumo handled surprisingly well. (He ran around his room for about two minutes straight before sprinting to the freezer and tossing them back in there. Unfortunately, the deformities didn't go away, but at least most of the dark chocolate stayed on!)
Katsuki then started to shift on Mikumo, sitting up and being Mikumo up with him too as they sat on Mikumo's bed. He smiled, "Oh yeah, I got you somethin'!"
He took the plastic bag he was holding prior and dug inside, before taking out a pink box in the shape of a heart. "Here ya go! Happy Valentine's Day, Yami!"
Mikumo took the box that was offered to him, and opened it up, revealing an assorted variety of heart-shaped sour candy, all in Mikumo's favourite flavours. Oh god, he was actually about to cry.
Mikumo didn't fight the soft smile that tugged at his lips as he looked up at Katsuki. "I can't believe you remembered... this is so thoughtful, thank you so much, Katsuki."
"Oh, stop it! You're making me blush!" Katsuki gushed, putting a hand to his face dusted with pink. "It wasn't that hard to remember, you eat it practically every day. I wouldn't be surprised if you were part sour candy by now!"
Mikumo scoffed lightly, throwing one into his mouth, because who wouldn't be able to resist the delicacy that was sour candy? "Shut up."
Katsuki snickered in return, before stretching his arms over his head. "Whatever you say~!" He yawned. "We still have a few hours before school starts, so how about we just sleep for the rest of the time?"
This was it! He had to do it! It was horrible, but it was something! "A-actually, Katsuki, I... I have something for you."
Katsuki's eyes lit up as he blinked in surprise and curiosity.
Mikumo nervously reached over to his bedside table and reached inside, taking out the card and little baggie of chocolate, and giving it to him.
He averted his gaze towards his bed, gripping the fabric anxiously. "It's... not much, I know... I wanted to get you more, but then the flowers died, and I got attacked by Shigaraki, and then the flower shop owner was going through a divorce, and the gift I was going to get you was discontinued, and-"
"Yamikumo."
Oh, no. Mikumo wasn't ready for this. Was he disappointed? Was he let down? Was he disgusted? Was he annoyed? Did he hate him? Did he want to bre-
Katsuki sniffed, followed by the sound of card folds slashing against each other, and plastic being opened.
Wearily, Mikumo looked up, expecting an expression of disappointment or irritation, but was instead met with the teary-eyed gaze of Katsuki, locked onto the card Mikumo made.
OH, NO, HIS GIFTS WERE SO BAD THAT HE MADE HIM CRY! THAT WAS DEFINITELY NOT SOMETHING BOYFRIENDS SHOULD'VE DONE TO THEIR BOYFRIENDS!
Mikumo began to panic. "Oh, no, Katsuki, uhm-! I'm so sorry, did the chocolate poison you?! Do I need to call poison control? Was it disgusting? I am so sorry, I knew I shouldn't have them homemade. I am so sorr-"
Suddenly, Mikumo's shoulders were grabbed, and cold lips were pressed against warm ones. Katsuki had pulled him into a sweet, loving kiss, before pulling away, causing Mikumo's brain to be completely fried as she stopped his apologetic ramble.
Katsuki laughed, wiping away his small tears as he set aside the open card. "You're so cute. And don't be sorry! I'm not sad." He ate one of the slightly-melted liquorice chocolates from the bag. "Awhh, you remembered I love bitter things! I can't believe you made them yourself too! And they're actually edible!"
"You.. don't hate it..?"
"I love it. It's perfect."
Mikumo let out a sigh of relief, finally feeling at ease, before Katsuki threw himself onto Mikumo, causing him to fall back onto the bed once more.
He peppered Mikumo's face with kisses, wrapping his arms around him, laughing at Mikumo's surprised and bashful expression.
Katsuki had temporarily abandoned his liquorice chocolates and card to the sides of the bed, leaving the card wide open as he proceeded to kiss the usually gloomy teen, showering him with comments of praise and adoration.
And on the open card read this,
' dear katsuki, '
' thank you for staying with me for all of these years, and putting up with me. you've done so much for me, and i don't know how i could ever repay you. '
' and on top of everything else you've done, you taught me something nobody else ever could, something i never even thought i could do. '
' and because of you, i can now proudly say this, '
' happy valentine's day, katsuki. '
' i love you. '
' sincerely,
yamikumo <3 '
God, Mikumo really was growing soft.
"Katsuki, you asshole..."
Well, only for Katsuki, that was.
"I love you..."
But maybe that was for the best.
