I could only make myself take tiny little baby steps toward the corpse. She was wearing Maki's sailor suit, her black skirt, and most importantly she had her long tree bark brown hair... There was no doubt that it was Maki.
I didn't even want to see the expression on her face. She probably went through a lot of pain...
"I- I- Don't understand s-s-she was just alive h-hours ago... W-what happened!?" Himiko stammered as tears started flowing down her face.
"They knew w-we were coming... They had to kill her before we f-found her..." Shuichi explained while he was fighting his own tears.
I collapsed onto the floor and kept my eyes glued to the dead body of the woman you loved. She wasn't here anymore... She was up in the stars right now, and all that was left was her soulless corpse.
I crawled my way to the door of her cell. I could take notice of all the cuts, bruises, and lacerations on her body. They really wanted to make sure that she was dead.
That is when I noticed a note on the cell door. I could tell it was Maki's handwriting.
I'm guessing these will be the final words I ever have from Maki. The last words of a caring woman that stole my heart.
Dear Y/N,
None of this was your fault. I know if you are reading this I am dead. My body may be in front of you right now. I want you to know I will always love you and none of what happened today was never your fault. Now I'm going to tell you what you should do next. By the stairs, there are keys for all the cells here. All of these people are kind, sweet, and most importantly they are innocent. The clan thinks it's an act of god that these people are starved to death, but they haven't done anything wrong. Let them out and lead them to the police station. I also want you to become best friends with Shuichi and Himiko. I don't want you to be alone. Please find someone else to love, Y/N. Don't let my hold you back anymore, and I want you to find peace. I know I can't see your beautiful face again, but I know the sadness you are feeling right now. Please keep going without me and learn to live... Goodbye forever.
Maki (roll)
"Himiko, Shuichi. We have to let all of these people out of their cells, and we need to get out of here right away." I told the two of them, and they obliged.
We let everyone out. We discovered they were lawyers, doctors, police officers, and basically any people who would get in their way. We knew with their help we can send everyone who organized the clan into jail for good.
On my way out I grabbed Maki... She deserved a final send off and there was no way I was going to let her be here when the bosses come back.
To finish things off we threw a lit match at the orphanage and everyone watched as the orphanage burned down. They may have a lot of other bases, but we were glad that we were able to put a stop to this.
"We did it, Maki... They're free."
