"Y/N... You won't believe who was on the other line."

"It was Kaito, right? There is no other possibility." 

"Y/N how did you know?"

I knew this for a while. Kaito was Maki's first, and there was no way she was going to let him go. I was always there for Maki, but Kaito was the first man that she ever fell for. She wasn't just going to let that bond go and the fact that he was alive again was going to turn our relationship on its head.

"Well you told the caller that you loved him, and it wasn't like he was your brother or father. Your family hasn't been in your life for years, and when you tell my parents you love them it is very subtle. Besides, you questioned them on why they were still alive, so Kaito was the only possibility in my eyes." I explained to Maki and she sighed.

"I'm in a very tough position Y/N. I want to see Kaito again, but I am scared that things will get steamy and romantic... At the same time if I don't go and see him I would be betraying him and I would be letting him down. He has been waiting years to see me again, and if I said no he would be heartbroken." 

This was a predicament, and I was honestly frightened by the fact that Kaito might want to get romantic with her again. He has no clue that Maki is married to me or the fact she even has her own daughter. The last time he saw Maki she was confessing her love for the spaceman, so if he was romantic with her I wouldn't be shocked. 

"I think you should see him Maki, but you have to make things clear with Kaito and you have to tell him that you moved on. You may still love him, but you already settled down and started a family with me. I don't mind you guys being friends or even best friends for that matter, but you have to let him down easy." I explained to Maki, and she nodded.

"Do you want to come with me Y/N? I am sure it will be easier for me to do if you come with me. I am just worried that I won't have the courage to tell him." 

"But you are Maki Harukawa! Remember what you said to Melissa's preschool teacher when she was smoking in the classroom? You sent that girl to therapy, so I am sure you can dump Kaito." 

"It isn't like that Y/N... That was a random stranger that I would never see again after that school year, but this is Kaito and like it or not he is going to be a major part of our lives. I know you are a bit spooked by my past with him, but he has to learn that was the past and I have moved on with my life. " Maki stated, and after Maki explained that I was less worried about what was going to go down between the two of them.

The very next morning Maki went to Tokyo to find Kaito, and I watched Melissa. It was a Sunday so she wasn't in school. I didn't know what to tell her, so I fibbed to Melissa and told her that her mummy was going to see a friend in Tokyo. 

In a way, I wasn't fibbing, but at the same time, I wasn't telling her that the friend Maki was going to go see was dead for thirteen years...
