IN THE SILENT MANSION, A SET OF FEET PATTERED DOWN THE COLD STAIRS, BEING AS CARFUL AS POSSIBLE. Elli made her way to the kitchen to fetch herself a glass of water. The dream was one she experienced all the time. She couldn't escape from it. She was now ten-years-old and still had nightmares from it.
As she entered the kitchen, she flicked on the light that buzzed shortly after and made her way to the cabinet to grab a plastic cup, then made her way to the freezer to grab a handful of ice cubes. She reached into the pantry to grab a water bottle to bring up to her room so she didn't have to make multiple trips and started to fill the cup up.
As she finished filling her cup with water, she pushed the cup near her lips and began drinking.
"Elli!" Mace yelled. Elli jumped and swallowed her water quickly causing her to choke. She began gasping and coughing, leaning over the sink to get the excess water out. Mace was now holding his stomach, leaning over laughing his heart out as he sat upon the long, hardwood kitchen table.
"Dude stop doing that!" Elli hissed in a whisper as she placed her cup onto the counter. "You're gonna kill me one day," she walked up to him with a serious look.
"Yeah, yeah, but, you should've seen your face. It was to die for," Mace laughed.
"Well. . . You are already dead so, you have nothing to die for," Elli gave a smile.
"Ha ha, very funny," Mace mocked, running a hand through his hair as it had grown longer through the years. "So, whatcha doin up? Another nightmare? Or should I say memory?"
Elli nodded and looked down. "Yeah, same one."
"Eh, don't worry. It'll probably go away," Mace hopped off the table. "You know the best thing about getting older is?" Elli shook her head at the dead boys question. "I grow more and more handsome and you just. . . grow, or something like that. Anyways," Mace began to blab about himself.
If I hadn't mentioned, he was very self centered I should say. I mean, he had a sweet spot for Elli don't get me wrong, but other than that, he could only care about himself.
"Sometimes I wonder how I ended up with you," Elli rubbed her temples at the boy who gave her a lifted eyebrow.
"I didn't ask to be here. I was just. . . magically assigned to you," Mace winked at Elli who rolled her eyes. "You should be grateful you have an amazing friend like me."
"You're my only friend," she deadpanned then pressed her lips together, grabbing her cup along with her water bottle then continued to make her way out of the kitchen, flipping off the light leaving ghost boy in the dark.
"Hey! I'm still here!" he shouted, but to his dismay, she ignored him. He huffed, "Elli, I know you hear me!" Elli tried her best not to laugh as she made her way back to her room. "Elliana Bennett, I swear to Satan, you drive me nuts!"
She let out a laugh, but covered it with her hand as so she wouldn't wake anyone up at the time, as to it was almost two in the morning. As she reached one of the rooms in the forty-two bedroom mansion and entered, closing the door behind her. It had a nice layout.
The bed was close to the wall as a nightstand stood right next to it with a lamp. Across from said night stand stood a dresser that kept her clothes, well, uniforms, and she had a full length mirror on the opposite side of the dresser, which she would stand in front of a lot to practice her powers. As she placed her cup and bottle of water onto the nightstand, she gave a sigh then plopped onto her bed.
She was living with Mr. Hargreeves for as she knew was three years time. She grew accustomed to the robot mom and the talking monkey for a butler, but one thing she wouldn't get used to is that she, now, had seven adopted siblings. She didn't even know if they knew about her to add a fact. She had seen them in the photos in the hallway, the comics, the magazine covers, and the big portrait of Five above the fire place.
She would ask Reginald a couple times where they were now, but she would get the same response every time.
"It doesn't matter where they are, Number Eight, but all that matters is that you train to work on your invisibility and stop talking to that make believe friend you've conjured up as a lie."
He never believed that Mace was real. And when I say never, I mean never. No matter how much evidence and facts she would give, he just wouldn't budge. Grace believed her though. Which gave her a little hope, but still, she was ten. Many people would think she would stop pretending at that age.
As Elli laid her back on the bed, Mace appeared next to her. She was used to that, just not used to when she would get a full on heart attack when he would just appear out of nowhere and yell or scream.
One instance when they were nine, Elli was skipping around the house as she had nothing to do that day. Reginald was in some foreign country at a meeting and Pogo decided to give her a free day as to it was a Saturday.
She was passing by the glass cabinet that held all of Reginalds trophies and certificates. In curiosity, she opened the glass cabinet and pulled out one of his golden plate awards and admired it. I mean, it was real gold. Very, very expensive gold. Not just some cheap gold you'd get at a party store or something.
Gifted Award of 2010: Reginald Hargreeves
As she read over the fine print and twisted it in her grasp, Mace yelled. "Boo!"
Elli screamed and threw her arms up, hence throwing up the trophy and it falling onto the floor, breaking in two places. The metal plate that held the name plate broke along with the stand piece that was on the bottom. Elli and Mace gasped in unison as she carefully picked up the broken award, eyes wide as she looked at the damaged pieces.
"Mace, you idiot! Why would you yell?" Elli questioned as she heard footsteps and a cane tapping coming closer and closer to her.
"Sorry, I didn't know you held something fucking priceless in your hands," Mace shrugged as Elli hurried and picked up the pieces.
"Mace, don't curse. You're nine. Watch your language," Elli gave her ghost friend a stern look as she got the pieces off the floor.
"Yes, mom." Their conversation was cut short when Pogo entered the room. Elli quickly put both hands behind her back, making sure Pogo couldn't see the mess she made.
"Ms, Elli, is everything alright? I heard something fall and then a scream," Pogo put his hands atop his cane.
"Yep, everything's fine," Elli gave a smile.
"Are you sure? Because, Master Hargreeves' cabinet is open," he pointed to the open cabinet and Elli quickly closed it shut with her elbow.
"Nope. Nothing. Not anything wrong," she continued to smile as Mace was hysterically laughing behind Pogo. "Quick it," she hissed under her breath.
"You can't make me," Mace started to make faces as Pogo gave a confused look.
"Stop it!" Elli hissed once more.
"Excuse me?" he asked as Elli shook her head.
"Nothing, nothing. You can go back to whatever you were doing Pogo. Nothing's wrong," she nodded. Pogo slowly nodded his head and proceeded to exit the room. As he was now fully out of site, Elli let out a big breath she was holding and put the broken pieces of the trophy onto the wooden slab that was attached to the trophy case.
"Mace," Elli looked up to her friend. "If you were ever alive, I swear I would kill you."
"Okay, you keep that in mind, darling," he smiled and moved next to her. "We," he leaned on the side of the wooden slab, "are gonna need a lot of glue."
Reginald never found out, good thing. Because if he did, oh boy, her punishment probably be death.
"Do you think your siblings know about you?" Mace tilted his head towards Elli.
"I mean, they have to, right? Hopefully," Elli shrugged, "they do. I don't wanna be stuck with you all my life."
Mace put a hand on his heart, "That hurt, Ana, it really did," Mace then snorted. "No, it didn't."
Elli rolled her eyes at Mace as he stood up and sat by the window, looking at the stars. A nightly thing he would do. As Mace was a complete asshole, he had a thing for astronomy. Some nights he could keep her up with facts and facts and facts, on and on and on. Sometimes, she would even fall asleep to him talking.
"Maybe I should write a letter to them. So they at least know me. I could even hand write all of them, then ask Pogo or Grace for the addresses," Elli smiled as she spoke to Mace.
"Hmm," Mace thought. "Not a bad idea, Cheshire. Alright, I'm in," he grinned as she smiled back at him.
"I'll get the addresses in the morning after training which is in. . ." Elli peered over to the small clock that sat on her night stand that read three o'clock in the morning, "five hours as it appears to be."
Mace shrugged and moved away from the window. "Well, do you want to start writing? Or start brainstorming ideas?"
Elli shook her head. "Nope. I have a visual of what I want to say already."
Dear to whomever this may concern,
Elliana started the letter.
My name is Elliana Bennett. I am writing to you to introduce myself. I know, you're probably thinking, "why would a random stranger be writing to me out of nowhere?" Well, I'll tell you. Your father adopted me.
Luther read over the words that the young girl wrote as he laid on his bed in the space shuttle.
"Why?" You may ask. Well, I was born October 1st, 2006, and a couple of years ago, my parents passed away in a car accident. I was put into the foster care system for a year until your father came and adopted me.
Diego held the letter in his hands as he held Eudora close to his chest. "Whatcha readin?" Eudora questioned.
"Nothing, nothing."
I always wondered why he adopted me until I remembered what my parents told me about how I was born. My mom suddenly became pregnant. Just like yours.
Allison was interested in the letter, reading it over the second time that day. She was on set for her new movie and decided to take down time to read it again.
At the age of five, I started to develop a strange power. Invisibility. It was strange, don't get me wrong, but I was excited to have this new power.
Klaus and Ben sat next to each other as they read the letter together. "Aw, she sounds sweet," Ben smiled as Klaus nodded in agreement.
I also, somehow, can see a dead boy around my age. His name is Mace. He's very kind but very sarcastic. He's the only friend I have since I've never had any other friends. I've seen photos of you all around the house and would like to know more about all of you. Yes, even you Vanya. Though you weren't included much, I still want to know about you.
Vanya smiled as she read over the small part of the letter. Someone wanted to know about her.
Hopefully, I get to meet you all one day. And maybe you would get to meet me.
Thank you for reading and hopefully writing back.
Sincerely, Elliana Bennett
