"What's wrong? You haven't been talking," Ambessa asked as they both walked together, the night sky illumined by the moon.

For a moment Y/n had stopped walking, trying to think before she finally spoke up.

"I just really need you, my love"

Those words lead to Ambessa pulling Y/n straight to her chambers, the Madarda woman quick to act on her desires as well.

Once they made it to Ambessa's chambers in the Madarda home, Y/n's back was already connected with the bed beneath her, Ambessa hovering above, looking deep into her eyes.

"Before I do anything," "Hm?" Y/n hummed, wondering what was going to be asked.

"What's wrong? You didn't think I wouldn't notice, did you?" Ambessa asked, the warrior knowing Y/n better than she did.

"*sigh*"

Y/n didn't exactly want to break the news that she was leaving soon, it would hurt too much and it would make things feel so concrete, but leaving without a word would hurt even more.

"I leave in five days," she spoke quietly, avoiding eye contact despite knowing it was something Ambessa would normally tsk at.

"To Shurima?" "Yeah..."

With the news up in the air, Ambessa felt like her lungs could collapse at any moment, but she had to pull herself back in.

For a second it was pretty quiet and Y/n felt guilty for souring the mood, but what scared her was how quickly Ambessa darted up and ran to her dresser.

"What is it, my love?" Y/n asked, staying seated in the bed as she waited for an answer.

But Ambessa was back to the girl in no time and had begun to place her ceremonial necklace onto Y/n.

"From now on, you'll forever be mine, no matter what happens or wherever we are," she explained, the custom of exchanging ceremonial necklaces to show that you were married to whoever you exchanged with.

"Bessa-" "We both knew you'd have to leave at some point, but if you're willing, we can marry now and finalize publicly when you come back to me," she rushed out, words flowing out before her mind could process.

"Are you sure? Your father will make you find someone to have children with," "but I won't love him, and if you have to do the same then I won't hold that against you. But we'll always belong to each other, alright?"

It was a lot to take in, their agreement basically to hold up standards while technically still being together under the assumption that all would be fine in the end.

Tears had begun to fall down their faces and even though they both hated it, they embraced the sadness and the stabbing pain it brought.

"I love you," "I love you too"
