when klaudia met avani, she instantly formed a friendship with the girl. the pair got along so well, avani being the only one who could understand and deal with her upfront, no filter personality. meeting avani led to meeting anthony, then meeting the sway boys.
klaudia wasn't expecting to form any attachments with any of them, she could be pretty detached at times. avani always felt that deep down, klaudia does have a nice spot, and that she's not as harsh as she seems on the outside.
klaudia always said what was on her mind, and she never held back. if she had an opinion on a topic she would most definitely be stating it out loud, despite what others may think about it.
"okay, we're going to the sway house, jaden is there and you haven't met him yet," avani informed klaudia.
the girl let out a groan, laying face down on her bed, discarding her phone next to her.
"do i have to?", she complained, her voice slightly muffled due to the soft bedsheets pressing against her face.
avani looked at her friend, a small laugh passing her lips.
"yes klaudia, you have no say in this whatsoever. plus jaden is really cool, he's chill and i think you'll get along with him," avani shrugged.
klaudia let out a huff, pulling her body up into a sitting position. she ran a hand through her dark hair before standing up from her bed.
"i'm gonna go finish getting ready," avani spoke, before leaving klaudia's room, closing her bedroom door behind her.
klaudia let out a sigh before heading over to her wardrobe, sliding open the mirrored doors. she picked out a pair of cycling shorts and paired it with a matching bandeau, throwing on a grey zip up hoodie on top, leaving it unzipped. her hair was still partially wavy from it being in french braids the day before so she just ran her fingers through her hair to neaten it up a little.
she moved her way over to her vanity, taking a seat on the small chair. she brushed through her brows with some clear brow gel, applying some mascara to her thick lashes, some highlight on the top of her nose and cheekbones and lastly using a clear gloss to coat her lips. klaudia wasn't one to wear a lot of makeup, she preferred the natural look.
klaudia let out one final sigh as she laced up her jordan's before following avani to the car, her hopping in the drivers side. on the way there, they stopped at dunkin' to get their fix of coffee, blasting their playlists until they reached the sway house.
on the way up to the front door, klaudia had a bored expression on her face, scrolling through her phone and checking all of her notifications.
the front door swung open to reveal anthony. him and avani greeted each other with a kiss as her and klaudia made their way inside.
"hey klaud," anthony chuckled.
the girl looked up from her phone, giving the guy a small side hug.
"hey ant," she greeted, a smile momentarily on her face.
they three of them weaved their way through the house to the backyard where some of the guys were seated. klaudia knew all of the guys, but hadn't officially met jaden. she spotted bryce and addison cuddled up on one of the chairs, her cringing on the inside at this.
she despised the idea of feelings of love of any kind, she kept it reserved for her family and maybe avani on a good day.
"hey guys!", josh greeted, standing up from his seat to greet avani and klaudia.
klaudia gave josh a small hug, patting his back awkwardly, before quickly taking a seat on one of the empty chairs. klaudia instantly pulled out her phone and began to scroll through her social media, not acknowledging anyone's presence. she didn't want to be here if she was honest.
"so klauds, this is jaden hossler," anthony introduced, gesturing the the dark haired boy beside him.
jaden curiously watched klaudia. he found himself intrigued with the girl the second she walked out into the backyard. he immediately noticed the scowl on her face and the way her eyes narrowed at the sight of a cuddly bryce and addison. he found her completely mesmerising, he thought she was beautiful, but he could tell that the girl didn't want to be there at all.
"hey," jaden grinned, holding his hand out.
klaudia looked up from her phone, her eyes slowly moving to look at jaden's outstretched hand across the outdoor coffee table. she stared at his hand blankly before looking up at him. she flashed a quick fake smile, tilting her head slightly as she done so before looking back down at her phone.
"klaudia, you can shake his hand, he just said hi," avani chuckled, rolling her eyes.
klaudia opened her mouth to snap back a sarcastic remark but jaden spoke up.
"it's fine honestly, she doesn't have to," jaden replied, moving his hand back.
klaudia rolled her eyes once more, not removing her eyes from her phone.
everyone broke off into conversation, jaden and klaudia being silent. jaden studied klaudia intently, he was extremely curious about the girl. she had zero filter at all and he found that oddly refreshing.
jaden had decided in that moment to make it his mission to get the girl to crack. he wanted to unveil the real klaudia montez, flaws and all. he wanted to show her true colours, because he wasn't believing her bitchy front at all. he sensed that there was more deep down.
as days went by, klaudia had begun to spend more time around anthony and his friends, including jaden. she had managed to have multiple conversations with jaden too. it took a lot of time to get her to speak to him in a civilised manner but she was starting to be more open to the idea of friendship with him.
but jaden wasn't done, he wanted to do anything he could to get under the girls skin and annoy her, he wanted her to crack. he didn't have harsh or spiteful intentions, of course he didn't, he just wanted her true colours to shine through, and if that meant breaking through her tough exterior then he was going to do all he could to break through it.
avani, klaudia, jaden, anthony, bryce and addison had been watching a movie. after much argument they ended up watching the new kissing booth 2 movie, much to klaudia's dismay.
klaudia was seated on the large couch, jaden on the other end, a safe distance between the pair of them. jaden took this as an opportunity to annoy the girl. he made a dramatic yawn as he stretched out his legs on the couch, them instantly landing across the girls lap. klaudia's eyes widened, a frustrated expression on her face.
"dude, can you move your feet!", she hissed, her voice an angry whisper, at an attempt to not distract her friends who were engrossed in the movie.
jaden simply shrugged.
"nah, i'm quite comfy," he grinned, letting out a relaxed sigh placing his hands behind his head getting comfortable.
klaudia angrily rolled her eyes, her body dead still. she couldn't be asked for jaden's shit, he'd been like this since they met two weeks ago. he always found small things to do to annoy the girl, and much to klaudia's dismay once again, he was succeeding.
klaudia sat uncomfortably as she turned her eyes back on the movie. jaden shifted around, purposely annoying the girl since his legs were across her. klaudia had her fists clenched, her knuckles turning whit as she bit back a frustrated scream.
she closed her eyes and took a deep breath before shoving jaden's legs off of her laps and standing from the couch. she turned without a word and made her way into the kitchen to make herself a drink.
she opened the fridge, pulling out the large bottle of coke that sat on one of the shelves, grabbing a glass. she turned to the fridge and filled the glass with some ice, placing it on the counter top. she opened the bottle of coke and began to pour the fizzy beverage over the ice, a fizzing noise filling the silent kitchen.
from the kitchen, it was silent across the house, minus the low hum from the appliances and the quiet television.
klaudia immediately sensed a presence close behind her, a masculine cologne filling her nose. jaden. her hand gripped the glass frustratedly, he just wouldn't leave her alone. with the glass in her hand, she turned around, sucking in a harsh breath when she realised how close jaden was. they were merely centimetres apart.
"what do you want?", klaudia asked harshly, growing annoyed with the guys presence already, placing on her bitch face.
jaden let out a low chuckle, his voice sending chills down the girls spine. klaudia shook off the weird feeling in her stomach, blaming the chills on the cold temperature in the house, despite the thermostat being at a warm temperature.
"are you gonna answer me?", she persisted, the grip on her glass growing stronger.
jaden slowly moved closer, his arm going above her head resting on the open shelf that had snacks lining it. klaudia swallowed, taking slow steady breaths to calm her fast heartbeat. she had no idea why she was feeling even remotely flustered. despite their close proximity, klaudia told herself that she wasn't attracted to jaden, that he was annoying, immature and just not what she wanted.
"what are you doing?", she asked, masking her shaky voice with a small cough.
jaden smirked, almost looking like he was leaning in slowly for a kiss, before he quickly grabbed a bag of chips from the shelf he was resting on, stepping away from klaudia. klaudia felt her heart drop, she really thought that jaden was about to kiss her.
jaden chuckled.
"what?", he asked innocently. "i just wanted some chips," he smiled, shaking the bag before turning and making his way out of the kitchen.
klaudia placed the glass down on the counter beside her. once jaden was out of sight she slumped backwards, her back hitting the edge of the counter as she held a hand to her rapidly beating heart.
she took a deep breath attempting to shake off those weird feelings.
more time passed and more of these moments happened, jaden attempting to get the girl to crack. and to his avail, it was beginning to work. klaudia had become more interested in coming over to the sway house, she had been more invested when she was around everyone instead of sitting on her phone the whole time.
avani was confused as to why her best friend had been acting different for the past month. but then her mind starting doing some work and she instantly knew. it was jaden.
klaudia was completely oblivious to all these changes though, she just felt like she was the same person as she was two months ago. she didn't want to admit to the strange feelings of butterflies in her stomach that she had whenever jaden was present. she didn't know what these feelings were.
others would recognise these as emotions of liking it possibly falling in love with someone, but that idea was completely foreign to klaudia. she didn't know what falling for someone felt like because she had always been so opposed to the ideals of it all. she always had no filter and always acted like a hitch because it made her feel good, and confident, not caring how she spoke to others.
klaudia was in the kitchen, happily pouring pink lemonade into separate glasses for all of her friends. they were all having a pool day and when klaudia offered to make the drinks avani knew something was up.
klaudia never offered to help people especially with things like this. avani realised that she was either going to try to prank her friends and put something in their drinks, or she had miraculously become a nice person. but avani thought it couldn't possibly be the last one.
"okay, you're helping out a lot recently and it's weird," avani stated, entering the kitchen.
klaudia turned around with furrowed brows.
"what do you mean?", she asked, a small genuine laugh passing her lips.
the girl continued to pour the pink beverage into the glasses.
"klaudia, you never help out. unless you're going to prank people or you have some sneaky little plan. this is out fo character for you," avani explained.
"nothings wrong avani, i'm just pouring drinks. it's not like i'm doing some million dollar charitable donation or something," the girl chuckled.
avani noticed the genuine smile and laugh from the girl, and it was strange to say the least.
"i-", avani started, before letting out a sigh and shaking her head. "uh, you know what, sure, whatever," she shrugged, not being bothered to explain to her completely oblivious best friend.
"okay, you can help me carry all these glasses out," klaudia grinned, handing avani a small tray with six glasses of pink lemonade on, her taking the other tray.
avani and klaudia made their way out to the backyard, placing the trays of drinks onto the large table that was filled with snacks. after this, the girls got in the pool, the thoughts that were previously plaguing avani's mind disappeared as the group all enjoyed the heat and the time in the pool with their friends.
klaudia actually letting herself go for the day, allowing herself to laugh and joke around with everyone, the feeling filling her up with a joy that she had never experienced before. and she hated to admit it, but happiness was a good look on her.
as the evening died down and people began to clear out, klaudia was seated out on the bench with the small canopy above it. she tucked her knees up to her chest, her eyes scanning the sky full of stars.
she had been feeling different recently, and she couldn't explain how or why. she couldn't even explain what it was, but it was new and different than any emotions she's felt before.
jaden stepped out into the evening breeze, spotting the girl on the bench, making his way over to her.
"can i sit?", he asked in a soft voice.
klaudia slowly looked up at him, as her eyes met his she felt that weird feeling again.
she took a deep breath, closing her eyes, and looking down away from him. she gently nodded her head, signalling for him to sit. jaden took a seat on the bench next to the girl, around half a foot of space between them.
the pair sat in silence, their eyes getting lost in the stars.
"it's beautiful isn't it," jaden spoke up, his low voice standing out in the silent wind.
"it is," klaudia agreed, her voice barely above a whisper as her thoughts ran rapid in her mind.
jaden could instantly tell something was bothering the girl.
"hey," he softly spoke, gaining the girls attention.
"talk to me," he continued, patting his lap.
klaudia let out a small sigh before gently laying her head down on jaden's lap, her body stretched across the rest of the bench. jaden's hands instinctively moved to the girls hair, gently threading his fingers through her dark brown tresses in a soothing manner. klaudia closed her eyes and let out a breath.
there was a pause of silence again, both of them still being entranced with the stars.
"you make me feel weird, jay," klaudia spoke up, her firm voice filling the silence.
a small breathy chuckle passed jaden's lips.
"in a good way?", he asked, his soft voice had a slight laugh in it from the girls random statement.
klaudia blinked.
was it in a good way?
klaudia then thought about how much things had changed in just under two months. she had grown a kind of liking towards jaden, she had became nicer and done more things for her friends. all these things that she wouldn't have even thought of doing before, she was doing now.
but was it good? was all this change any good for the girl? or was her life easier when she was an unfiltered bitch, hiding behind her mask of insults and ignorance.
she had no idea.
but what she did know was that the way jaden made her feel was very much weird, but a good weird.
her eyes glanced up to look into jaden's eyes, his moving down to look at the girl who's head was in his lap, his fingers continuing to gently comb through her hair. she gave him a small smile before looking away again.
"sure," she answered. "it's a good weird."
