a little fluff since we all deserve it ;)
It was another day in the daycare, toddlers having a full blast play time after learning about shapes and letters from their teacher Seulgi. Little kids spread out all across the small room, playing with toys that were available near the fabric toy box and chairs were put at the back so that there is more space to play and have fun.
In Yoonsuk's case, he isn't playing due to his best friend being absent today, sitting all alone in the play mat beneath him. It was a bummer for him to hear that Dopyo was ill and his mom called in for their teacher to be aware of the absence. The little vampire pouted at the thought, eyes encountering other kids who were waving at him, and as a nice guy he is, he waved back sweetly.
The boy walked around the area, wondering where the other kim went, curious eyes looking around to spot her in the big classroom. Yoonsuk knew that Daisy was present for the day, he saw her with her dad and the two were seatmates during the discussion, and ever since play time started an hour ago he never seemed to notice the kim anywhere.
He went on a search for her, greeting kids he encountered with a hello and smiled at them then going back to finish his mini mission. Taking little steps on retriving the oldest kim from whereever she's finding at.
It didn't take long for him to find the girl, shocked to see her at the very back of the room along with the small colorful chairs. Yoonsuk was weirded out that the girl is facing downwards, hearing muffled sniffs from her. Maybe she has a cold.
From months of being seatmates with the kim, Yoonsuk already took note that the girl dislikes talking to him, which he doesn't understand because he was just being nice to her. And another thing he knows, the only way he'll get noticed by the younger is by teasing her. "Hey Daisy—"
"If you're here to tease me, just stop Yoonsuk." The girl utters almost in silence, voice sounding too brittle for her own understanding. "Just l-le— Just leave me alone." She begged though it sounded like a whisper because of her swallowing her words.
Daisy waited for a couple seconds to raise her head to check up if the male finally leave her alone, but a broken gasp escaped her lips when the boy didn't move at all. The swollen and teary eyes that she's been hiding for an hour was now noticed by him, great someone already knew that she's crying at school right now. "Leave me alone—"
"Why will I leave you alone when you're sad and crying?" Yoonsuk cut the younger off, a frown uttered on seeing fresh tears resting on her chubby cheeks, his charcoal eyes gazing over the light red eyes of hers. He can't just ignore the fact it's his best friend's sister is crying in front of her.
"J-just go away, you won't get it!" The girl was aiming to scream but the lumpiness of her throat made it into a soft throaty request. "You'll just laugh, you'll just laugh at me on seeing me cry." she insinuated, from all the times why did she have to be caught by a boy who always teases and annoys her?
"I won't laugh, I promise." he assures her, voice being appealing to make her trust him but she isn't convinced, she doesn't like the male on the first place anyway. "Daisy-ah, please don't cry." I don't want the prettiest girl to cry like this..
"Can you just shut up and leave, I don't want you here!" Daisy hissed, jaw clenched as her tired half lidded eyes were using the last of energy to glare at him. "J-just leave me alone, you won't understand anything!" she choked on her sob, stopping herself from breaking down in front of him.
"Understand what?" The boy asked, inviting himself to sit beside her, curious on whatever the girl wanted to say.
"You won't understand how hard and painful it is when the four people who understand you are gone and dead!" the kim couldn't resist anymore and snapped , making the boy shocked on hearing the words coming from her.
Although the daycare was no close to being quiet, silence filled onto the two kids, sweet laughters of other children were dominant among their little space. The Ji have no words to utter, speechless and have no idea on how to cheer up the kim. Maybe he really doesn't know what's going on with her tiny life.
"Grandpa Moon is gone, Uncle Yang is gone, Uncle Johnny is gone and U-uncle T-tae-, uncle Tae is gone too." Daisy starts off, losing all of her composure and releasing all the emotions she bottled for the whole week. "They're gone, I miss them so much. Why did they have to die? Why did the four people who understand me have to die and leave me? It's t-to, it's too unfair.." she cried silently, fresh tears escaping her eyes and going down freely, her chest started to feel tight to all the overwhelming grief she had. It hurts her so much, why did they have to go away without saying goodbye?
"They understand me more than anyone, they know secrets that I can't tell mom and dad, I can talk to them without them laughing or teasing me. I miss them, I miss them so much." she pleads covering her face onto her palms, gripping onto her hair harshly and couldn't feel anything other than sadness, she was tired so early in class. "You see Yoonsuk, they see me as a bad person and it makes me sad, am I really that bad? Do they hate it when I get tantrums? Do they want me to go away?"
"I tried to be nice and follow everything mom and dad ask but they always see me as a bad person.. Mom and dad keep saying for me to behave but if I do behave, they never notice it, it's nothing for them. All their attention is on Dopyo because he's nice and everything, they never notice the nice me but always get mad and scold me every single bad thing I do."
"They always notice me when I'm bad and it hurts me, why can't they see me when I'm good, they always think I did something bad and hide it- Everyone don't love me at home, they hate me, no one likes me-"
"I like you." Yoonsuk interrupted the younger, weirded out on the burning sensations he felt on his cheeks, what's wrong in saying he likes Daisy and why did it have to feel so embarrassing?
"No you don't, if anything, you just like annoying me." Despite the heavy feeling in her chest, she wouldn't miss any opportunity to argue back to the older.
Once again silence crept between the distance the two kids and it made Daisy space out, recalling her late uncles and grandad. It crushes her completely how happy memories she has with them will always remain a memory, a heartbreaking realization that made Daisy wail as silently as possible.
No more uncle Tae to cling around and tell her tiny problems, to learn how to cook and bake to taste it afterwards; no more uncle John to carry her up high and give her piggy back rides, to receive many pleasing clothes and to have a little runway in his office; no more uncle Yangyang to play with and doodle around the halls, no more little bickerings here and there, no more uncle Yangyang to carry him around ans play castle with her; and lastly, no more grandpa Moon to hear his amazing vocals teach her to sing, no more Taeil time with him and no more pretty and bestest compliments a granddaughter to ask for.
"I-i have, I have no one now."
"You have your parents Daisy." Yoonsuk tried to remind her how great her parents are.
"But they love Dopyo more than they can love me, they favor him more." she replied with a sniff, not even bothering to wipe her tears because it immediately went down and was replaced by new and salty ones. "Uncle Yangyang is right, everyone has their favorites." she stated with a broken smile, if being favored by her uncles feels the best thing ever, not being one is literally the worst.
If the emotion is possible, his imaginary heart sinks on everything he just heard from her. From her grief, how everyone always mistook her as the evil one and how she feels so alone. It makes the boy frown, eyes glistening on seeing her agony and missing her uncles and grandpa so badly. Yoonsuk knew it was impossible to bring the four back to life because he's too young to know about anything but, he did have a solution to offer to her.
"You can talk to me about anything, though I may not know and give answers, I'll do my best to try and listen to you, I won't laugh and tease you. I promise to be there for you for now on Daisy."
"How can I trust you when you tease me all the time." Daisy quipped a brow at him, not really taking consideration to process his offer, why will he offer to be there for her anyway? She doesn't get it.
"I t-tease you because I just wanted to get your attention." The older confessed bashfully, scratching his nape in embarrassment. "You never talk to me because of Dopyo, it's not like I'm stealing your brother away from you."
"What?" Daisy reacted with her pupils dilated, a snort passing her nostrils on the boy's words. "You can steal my brother anytime, he scolds me more than mom and it's pretty much annoying. Keep him, he's all yours to keep and to annoy. Good luck on Dopyo nagging at you non stop.'' She joked which half of her statement is true.
The two glanced at one another and giggled, the cold and gloomy aura was far gone. The male took advantage of the situation and admired the girl. Although Daisy came from a crying mess, it didn't lessen the attraction the boy had to her. His insides softened at the sight of the girl's gums showing cutely, the waited gummy smile that had been hidden for a while showed once again, oh how much the boy wanted to see her smile everyday.
The two's giggles were shortly interrupted when teacher Seulgi announced it was snack time, telling all the kids to come near her to claim their little lunch boxes. Yoonsuk didn't wait for Daisy's approval and grabbed her arm, pulling her onto Seulgi carefully. The younger shrugged and let him guide her, eyes slowly closing but still managed to force her eyes to open, drowsiness present in her veins because of crying too much.
There was a small line that the two vampires would wait before they get their lunchboxes, Yoonsuk looking onto Daisy through time to time to check if she's okay, his tiny hands intertwine to hers and the younger didn't mind it and wait silently. The Ji felt a weird tingling feeling inside his stomach, odd to feel such butterflies floating around as his cheeks dusted with a pinkish tone, he didn't understand what's going on in his body but one thing he can say, he likes it.
It took a couple of minutes for the two to be in front of teacher Seulgi, the Kang biting off a smile and trying her best not to coo so loudly on seeing the two vampires holding hands, but her smile faded when she saw the teary and red eyes of the little Kim. She slowly give Yoonsuk's lunchbox and stare at the younger vampire, she knows what happened to her family and made a wild guess that it's the reason of her crying too much.
"Daisy, sweetie, can we talk to my office for a while?" she asks lovingly, hands onto her lap and showing her a timid smile, convincing the girl to say yes and follow her.
But the girl took in another way, the tears she onced stop shredding resurfaced her eyes, flowing down freely and trembling beside the Ji. "I'm g-gonna get scolded?"she pleads with a broken voice, scared to go with her teacher and hear many nags, she had a rough week and wanted a break from scolds, didn't want to disappoint her parents too for being the menace she is.
The dhampir teacher frowned at the student and read every thought of Daisy, feeling bad that she thinks that way. She placed a hand on the girl's shoulder, giving her a reassuring smile as her eyes meet the tiny pupils of the Kim. "I'm not going to scold you sweetheart, I just want to talk to you on things you've been having at home, I promise you're not in trouble Daisy."
The assurance of not getting scolded didn't seem to work for the little Kim, Seulgi having a hard time to talk to the girl privately and is panicking to see Daisy crying in front of her, the Kang comforting the little one and wrapped her in a tight hug. After watching in silence, the Ji have to meddle and save the Kim from crying too much and as much as he knows that it's bad to lie on elderlys, he made himself to do it. "I'm sorry teacher Seulgi, it's my fault that Daisy is crying. I'm gonna make it up to her by sharing my lunch with her." he muffles and shallowed thickly, hoping it convince the Kang.
Seulgi slowly remove her hands on Daisy and look at the male with her brows knitted, sitting in her little chair whilst she saw the Ji pulled the girl away from her and sitted at the very end of the room. She clearly knows that the boy is lying, hearing the tiny voices of the two to confirm it. She sat there and watch the two kids, taking note to check on Daisy through time to time, but she knows that the girl will be fine on seeing the Ji making funny faces and making the girl smile, making it as a good reason for her to not scold Yoonsuk on lying.
The whole thirty minutes of the Kim was well spend on laughing and smiling, enjoying the company of the Ji, feeling relief and safe after being on the edge earlier. Yoonsuk entertaining her with stories his mom told him, the cutest stories of his own and getting toys in the big box for them to play castle and role play. For once, Daisy feels bright again after a rough week all thanks for the male.
Giggles were heard loudly from the two vampires, playing with toy cars and racing the toys in their imaginary race track, Daisy playfully complaining how Yoonsuk played dirty on her and cheated, laugh echoing on the room along with other students as they enjoyed each other's presence, smiling in contentment as they sat on the playmat, glancing at each other with pure innocence and adoration.
And just how any nursery schools, the school day ended swiftly, though the kids still wanted to play with their friends but they needed to go home. The two watch the other kids pack their things and bid goodbye to their classmates, Yoonsuk taking over Dopyo's place and carefully instructing the younger to pack her things, learning the fact that the female Kim is often forgetful and it always Dopyo who brings her bag at times, the Ji chuckling at how annoyed the male Kim is every time it happens.
The Kim happily fix her things with delight, chest finally at ease after experiencing such heavy grief and sadness from staying at home. She place her bag at her back and look at the male with a grin, gums showing at how joyous she is. She saw the male smile back and blink his eyes when the girl take a step closer to him, his tiny mind wondering what the girl is up to since playtime and school is over.
"Thanks for playing with me Yoonsuk, you made me happy thanks again." Daisy utters with a bright tone, her insides urging her to do something and yet she give in to the urge. She lean towards the male and press a peck on the Ji's cheeks, pulling away quickly and immediately left the boy a flustering mess because of it. "See you on monday, bye!" she shouts, getting stared by her teacher but sge didn't care, only to bid goodbye to Seulgi and instantly sprinting her way out the classroom to avoid the chance to talk to her teacher.
And as cue, Daisy found herself getting fetch by her father, who's now staring at her with a brow raised. The girl shrugged and raised her hands, signalling the older vampire for her to get carried. Doyoung pick the little one up and squint when the little Kim press a soft kiss on his cheek, giggling after on seeing her dad look at her confused. "Hi daddy," she greeted vibrantly, smiling widely at him.
"Hi sweetie??" the vampire greets back with a weird tone, glancing at her with a hesitant smile. He then started walking away from the kindergarten, reciprocating the bright smile that his daughter is giving him. "You seem to enjoy school today, mind to tell me?"
And of course as expected, the girl knitted her brows at the vampire, scoffing so suddenly. "Why, it is wrong to smile daddy?"
"Uhm nope, it isn't sweetheart." Doyoung replies with a whistle, tilting his head and smile widely at his little one. "I'm just glad that my princess is smiling today." he stated and press a peck on her chubby cheeks, not wanting to bug the girl futher. He didn't want to ruin the Daisy's good mood since it's his first time to see her smile that much for days, thankful for whatever or whomever made his daughter grinning this much.
The little one stayed silence on her father's hold, letting him pass on calling her princess since she hated that title. The two stayed in silence on the short walk, not until Daisy softly pulled Doyoung's shirt to gain his attention. "Daddy can we get ice cream, please?"
The vampire blink his eyes as he stare at the ice cream parlor near them, almost forgetting something and thank the little one for reminding him."Oh wait, your mom ask me to buy ice cream for you and your brother, so of course baby."
"Can we get ice cream for mommy and uncle Kun too?" The girl followed up a request, also remembering someone too. "Let's get some for uncle Ten too to cheer him up? I miss him so much." She frowns, it's been days since she saw the half and she knows how sad he is on losing her uncle Yang and uncle Johnny.
"That's a great idea Daisy, I think your uncle Ten would love that." Doyoung smiles in satisfaction, using his free hand to push the door open to the store, walking inside the parlor and step in line, whistling in the comforting silence.
Daisy hugged Doyoung's neck and smile in contentment, resting her head on his shoulders as her eyes becomes drowsy, tiredness kicking in for playing and crying too much. She sighs silently, closing her tiny eyes and when it's Doyoung's turn to order and to ask her what flavors she wants, the girl only answered with a snore, lips curved up at how her day in the daycare went, all thanks for Ji Yoonsuk.
