The Mikaelsons lives were spiraling out of control.
When the young Davina Claire helped the Strix, a secret society of ancient vampires, unlinking the sire-line of the infamous Original Hybrid, Klaus Mikaelson, enemies of all kinds decided to crawl out their crevices, attempting to strike at him.
It was kind of a given, considering the many enemies the family had made throughout their long miserable lives.
With the last splinter of the white oak just out of hand's reach and a ton of enemies that had festered in their hatred for far too long coming to settle grudges, Elijah, Freya, and the newly resurrected Kol convinced their brother to leave New Orleans with Hayley and Henrik, his son. During which the siblings would stay behind, find the missing weapon, and sort the mess out.
And no, just because Klaus was leaving the city, it didn't mean he was running. Besides, Niklaus Mikaelson never runs... he disappears.
For there was a time, years ago, when the name Klaus Mikaelson was little more than a rumor. A shadowy figure who cast fear into the very bones of any who heard the whisper of him. And Klaus decided to do the same this time too, only something unexpected happened.
With one last look of Hayley beside him and to his son, who was calmly sitting strapped in the back seat, Klaus revs the engine to life when a bright light suddenly enveloped his being; and before he had the time to react, he was in some other place โ a place filled with absolute darkness.
Mild panic sets in him, but with a shrill cry of his son and an alarmed cry from Hayley, calling out his name, his heart settles a little bit. He was glad to see they were unarmed, but before he could have a moment of respite, there was another bright light, and Klaus moved to stand guard in front of his child along with Hayley, willing to fight any enemy that came from the shadowsโ
"โElijah?" His voice is barely above a whisper, shocked when he sees his brother and sister appearing there. He steps forward cautiously, trying to see if they were really them. "Freya?"
"Klaus!" His sister gasps, catching her breath, and from her expression, Klaus could very well see even she had no idea what happened. And nor did Elijah, from the looks of it.
But before they could discuss the devilry behind their unusual predicament, there was another bright light, and then another, and before they all knew it, the room was filled with people. Foes, Friends, and family alike. And Klaus could practically name everyone in the room.
First, there was his family โ Henrik, Hayley, Elijah, Freya, Kol, Finn, the boring brother, who should be locked away in Freya's pendent, and then there's Rebekah, who should be lying daggered in a safe place until they found a cure to her hex. Apart from them, there are also a few other people from New Orleans โ Marcel, Camille, Josh, and Vincent Griffith, the new regent of New Orleans, accompanied by Davina Claire by their side.
And Klaus felt a headache rising when he witnessed a few people from Mystic Falls he could recognize as well โ The not-so-young Jeremy Gilbert, Bonnie Bennett, Matt Donavan with Stefan Salvatore. Klaus thought he had seen the last of him back when they said goodbye 4 days ago, apparently not. And to his bewilderment, there was also Caroline Forbes, holding a newborn baby in her arms, and Alaric Saltzman next to all of them, carrying another bundle in his arms which he could only guess was another one of the twins.
But also, there were a few people he couldn't recognize as well. There was a vampire among them, whose persona screams a devil may care attitude that reminded him very much of a Salvatore that's been missing among the motley group of Mystic Falls gang.
And then, there's a woman with shoulder-length curly black hair and round brown eyes, who seemed to have had a hard time gathering her bearings and was but a second away from a panic attack, and looked like she had no connection to any of the people present in this room. She was in a white coat, a doctor - probably got zapped when she was in the middle of work.
At least she smelled like a wolf, Klaus thought, while the one next to her clearly smelled like a human. The young man had an athletic build, short black hair, and brown eyes, and he was really freaking out, conveying that he didn't even understand the concept of magic.
And, as he expected, the whole place turned into an absolute mess in seconds.
"Can we all please just shut up!" A loud voice echoed in the dark, above all others, making everyone go silent. Caroline lets out a sigh, "โThank you," she says it, sounding more like an irritable snap. "We have three little kids in this room, two of whom I put down to a nap just now and have no intention of going through that again if they were to wake up because of this. So, how about we just talk civilly instead of screaming at each other."
"Wow," Camille echoes, looking at the fellow blonde vampire, "I like you," she declares, earning a sweet smile from Caroline.
Elijah was the next one to break the silence, "Thank you, Miss Forbes," He tells her, adjusting the lapels of his coat. "I couldn't have put it more eloquently myself. But may I perhaps recommend to tone it down a little when you lecture for the next time," he asks, his tone cool and calm, informing her she was doing the more shouting as of now.
And Caroline must've noticed it finally too, so she awkwardly cleared her throat, "Right, sorry," she whispers, clearly embarrassed, "I just had a few, restless, 4 days. So..."
Rebekah scoffs somewhere beside him, "Oh, tell me about it," she mutters, speaking from the experience of looking after little Henrik during his first 9 months.
"Nowโ" Elijah speaks loudly, gaining everyone's attention back to him, "Does anyone know why or how we are all here," He turns to look at the witches present in the room. Feya was quick to shake her head, though. She had never experienced something like this in their long life.
"Yes," Klaus joins him, his eyes going to find who he thought were culprits behind this, "What are the ancestors cooking up now โ Vincent, Davina?" His eyes then drift towards Bonnie, "Or perhaps it is your ancestors doing โ after all, they have aided our wretched mother time and time again to help her kill us once and for all."
"I don't have any idea what we are all doing here," Bonnie shakes her head, even though she had half a mind to argue with him to not go around making accusations blindly. But Caroline would probably kill her if the babies were to wake up because of them. "And even if my ancestors had anything to do with it, they didn't tell me anything about it."
"And before you accuse her of anything โ Davina has nothing to do with this. We were on a date when this happened. I can account for that," Kol cuts in immediately when Klaus's eyes drift to his girlfriend.
But before Klaus could prod her any further, Vincent speaks. "This โ this is not the ancestor's work, Klaus," he says with determination, making everyone present go silent with thought. "This feels much powerful, ancient even. It's dark, but not anything sacrificial... that I can sense."
Elijah exhales a sigh, his fingers pinching the bridge of his nose, trying to think when he hears Klaus' question, "So, while we are at it, may I know why he is here," And Elijah knew he was talking about Finn. Because he himself had a few questions. "Because if my memory serves right, Finn should be locked away in that little pendant of yours, and Rebekah, daggered in a box so that she can't harm herself or anyone in the family."
Finn looked displeased at being talked down to. But still answered the question when he saw the expectant look on Freya's face, "When the little witch wanted to resurrect our glutton of a brother, the spell she did was tied to the blood of the Mikaelson line. So, of course, it included me too. And so here I am, back in my original body and all."
Kol's anger rose to its limit at the sight of him, and just as he flashed forward to rip the bastard's heart out, not caring about the note of warning from Elijah, he found himself stuck, unable to move no matter how much he wanted. He turned to cast an angry glare at Freya, expecting it to be her fault. "Release me!" he orders.
"It's not my doing," Freya declares.
"Then whose is it? He demands, growing angry by the very second.
"I don't know," she says, "Probably the same one who brought us here." She then sighs, "But Kol, please, do you really have to do this. Finn is our family," she tries to foolishly restore her family that clearly cannot be fixed. "Finn's return is an opportunity to mend old wounds and fix what's broken."
"He didn't just drop a bloody vase!" Kol snaps at her angrily, black veins crawling up his eyes in frustration. "He murdered me. And if anything, he's the enemy of this family," his gaze turns back to his two remaining brothers, looking at them, "What? Am I wrong? Time and time again, Finn has demonstrated nothing but contempt toward this family. He tried to kill Henrik, his own nephew, and he tried to kill the rest of us more than once! And he literally killed me."
His head snaps back to Freya again, fury dancing in his eyes and mouth twisted in a sneer. "I died once, before, because of those two," his fingers pointing towards Bonnie and Jeremy. "But dying by the hands of your own family. That sucks more than anything you could ever imagine. And I will never forgive him for that."
"Then it's a good thing I am not here for your forgiveness," Finn quips from behind him, his words spoken carelessly.
And Kol goes to take a swing at him - only to be held in his place by an unknown force before he could even get a chance to touch his bastard of a brother. Tightening his hands in a fist, Kol drops them to his side in annoyance.
Finn smirks at Kol's helplessness. "Finn," Freya admonishes her twin, but before she could go on any further, a loud curse echoed.
"โHoly fuck," the human that no one apparently knows says. "Just what the hell is going on here? One second I am sitting in my living room trying to binge-watch criminal minds, and suddenly I am here. And, btw, did that guy just flash across the room in less than a second, and no one seemed to blink an eye. Just...just who are you people?"
"Oh my god. He is a human," murmured a few, realization dawning on them, followed by, "Why is a human here?"
"How about thisโ" Camille starts, taking a minute to think it through. "We are the only ones selected to be here, right? So clearly, the person knows us in one way or other. So Let us all introduce ourselves, and maybe we might have a chance to find out who our mutual friend or a foe might be. Good?"
When no one objects to it, Camille nods, satisfied. And with another encouraging nod from Vincent, the girl decided to continue. "Let's start with me. I am Camille O'Connell, but everyone just calls me Cami. I am from New Orleans. A psychology graduate who worked as a bartender a Rousseau's. I had an uncle and twin brother, priests at St. Anne's, who are both dead after being hexed by witches to turn into a couple of psychos. And I am also a newly turned vampire because I was compelled to slit my throat by Klaus' thousand-year-old evil ex. And I was also at my home when I got zapped."
Klaus lets out a sigh, "Camille," he tries to speak, feeling very tired all of a sudden. Just how many times does he have to explain to her his decision regarding Aurora? But he couldn't get a chance to talk as Vincent began to introduce himself. "I am Vincent Griffith. A Treme witch and currently the regent of all the nine covens of New Orleans. I had a psychotic ex-wife who sacrificed young witch children so that she could steal their power."
"Well, that escalated quickly," The unfamiliar vampire with the British accent murmured.
Vincent's eyes find the next Original he had a huge grudge on. Glaring, he pointedly continues. "And, yeahโ" Vincent snaps his finger as though he just remembered something when everyone clearly realized he probably wanted to say that for a long time now and is just trying to appear ignorant. "For over 9 months, their psycho brother, Finn here, took my body for a long ride, making powerful enemies, pissing a few others, and also got me involved in a revenge fantasy to kill a baby boy, who also was his own nephew."
"Ooh!" Alaric made a sound at that, "I know how that feels!"
"You do?" Davina asks, intrigued.
Alaric lets out a low sarcastic chuckle, "Klaus here took my body for a school dance, terrorizing my then-girlfriend and her niece, and Bonnie here literally died."
"Why am I not surprised," Josh murmurs to himself.
Marcel sighs exasperatedly. "Is anyone in the Original family not hitching rides in other's bodies?"
Rebekah scoffs, "Um, Elijah," she answers in a duh tone. "Also, I don't remember you complaining about my human body when I was possessing Eva Sinclair."
"Oh, God!" Vincent groans, absolutely grossed out on a whole new level. "I don't need to know that."
"Wait! You guys are the Originals?" The unknown werewolf who had stayed silent until then spoke, gathering everyone's attention, "โlike the original family โ the first vampires and all?" She stressed these words, probably wondering what she was doing in a room full of the vicious family.
"Well, if we are being specific, I am the first Hybrid, love," Klaus corrects her, "But yes, we are the Original family."
"Wait," Enzo's eyes light up in recognition. A cocky smirk on his face as he finds Caroline's sight. "This is the guy?" he asks, pointing at the supposed original Hybrid. When Caroline looked at him pointedly with a glare not to open his big mouth and embarrass her, Enzo didn't look intimidated one bit. "The one with a British accent and dodgy morals โ your type."
There were a few snickers and raised eyebrows.
"I will kill you when I get out of here," Caroline says through gritted teeth and a sweet smile, knowing she can't do anything to harm him here, but it only made him smirk.
When there was a slight pause, Vincent took it as a sign to continue. "Anyways, as I was saying, I had a vision from ancestors about the last piece of white oak," which came as a surprise to all originals, making them shoot their heads up to look at him intently. "But as soon as I retreated it, a group of vampires came out of nowhere. I snapped their necks, of course, but the last one, the girl, I couldn't do anything to her. It's like ancestors wanted her to have it. So when we fought, she overpowered me, took a chunk of meโ" he pointed his forefingers to his neck, where the wound had magically healed, "โand left me there unconscious. That was the last thing I remembered."
"Are you telling me some unknown girl has the weapon that could end all of my family, and by extension, a whole group of the vampire race?" Klaus demanded angrily. He grew irritated by everything all of a sudden. So much that the Original didn't care when Klaus felt Caroline and Hayley glaring at him from his peripheral group, telling him the children would wake up if Klaus's any louder. He had a right to be angry, Klaus thought, furious, maniac even. This was white oak they were talking about.
"I told you, man, my powers wouldn't work on her. The ancestors are on her side," Vincent explained, trying to get it across the thick skull of the angry Hybrid.
"Do you at least remember her? Have you seen her from somewhere?" Elijah asked after a brief silence.
"She's not from the Cresent city, but I can never forget that face, Elijah," Vincent says, shaking his head.
"You said she has your blood in her system right," Freya interrupts them, looking hopeful for a second. "Maybe I can track her with that."
"For that, we need to get out of here first," Kol bites back. "And I don't see any door that will lead us anywhere, love, nor do I see any things that could represent us. But I guess nothingness is a poetic way to describe our family asโ"
"Oh my god!" The human who they still don't know the name of groans. "I am dreaming," he seemed to have come to a ludicrous conclusion.
"You are not dreaming, dude," Josh tells the poor man. "You are just having a hard time adjusting to the supernatural."
"Supernatural," he echoes, "Like Vampires, witches, and unicornsโ"
Matt seemed to take pity on the guy too. "Unicorns are not real," he says with a small smile, hoping to reassure him, "But yeah, we have vampires, witches, werewolves, immortals, and doppelgangers, and oh, let's not forget supernatural hunters," he adds the last part looking at Jeremy and Stefan.
"I don't know why we are doing this," Jeremy snapped loudly, just as Dorian got into thinking. "All I am hearing is how Mikaelsons screwed everyone's lives here."
"Oh, you don't get to talk, little Gilbert," Kol warned the guy with a thinly veiled threat. "Be glad I don't get to rip your heart out right here."
"I know you have been a little cuckoo in the head ever since your sister turned into a sleeping beauty, Jeremy," Klaus starts with a smirk, taunting the former hunter. "But that doesn't mean I won't have your head deposited on the end of a spike for disrespect. Also, not to make this all about me, but if you think you are gathered here just because you shared a few grievances with my family, then let me assure you, there would've been a lot more people in here for the reasons more complicated than yours. Besides, I have never met this human, werewolf, and vampire in my life," Klaus ends, his fingers pointing towards Dorian, Keelin, and Enzo. "So I don't think it's exclusive, 'I hate Mikaelson club.'"
Stefan, however, grimaced in the back. Because he was pretty sure he and Klaus had a hand in ending the lives of Dorian's father and sister. But Stefan didn't know how to say that. A part of him knew he should tell this to Dorian and ask for his forgiveness, but he didn't have the courage to do so. And from what Klaus said and he could see, the werewolf girl and Enzo really knew nothing about Klaus's family and were not involved with them in any way.
"Well, why the hell are we all here then?" Snapped Jeremy.
And as if a question was answered, a light appeared, it was so not so bright, but it was wide, appearing in the form of a screen. And then, all of a sudden, an invisible force pushed them back, and they were all found sitting on a few seats that had manifested from thin air โ comfortable chairs they could've sworn that weren't there until then.
Everything about that action felt like they were sitting in a movie theater, waiting for the movie to start.
And true to their thoughts, an image showing a group of teenagers appeared on the screen, followed by a voice. "Today, we have all joined here to watch the fate of yourself and your children โ for this will be the legacy
