CHAPTER 2
Kwon was stuck in the world that was Jacquline Baker. He wished he could say he hated it. That he dreaded training the weak American. But the truth was the opposite.
He still didn't particularly like her as a person but training her gave him something to do. At his dojo, he was second best. His Sensei Kim, the woman that took him in was much harder on him than all her students.
It was just a nice escape. Now he was in charge, ready for action.
It was one in the morning on a Saturday. Jackie thought she could slip by because it was the Weekend. She would think again.
Kwon realized quickly she was on the second floor so he forced himself to climb the tree to get to her room. It wasn't difficult.
He looked through the window and saw she was sleeping. He started to get rather annoyed. Even if she was on the second floor, why didn't she have blinds or a curtain? She needed to be prepared for anything.
Kwon opened the window and carefully slid through. The room wasn't dark. She left her lamp light on when she fell asleep.
He took this as his moment to gather information on who he might be dealing with. Was she just a rich weird American girl? Or was there something deeper.
Kwon examined the room. It was covered in pink with hints of yellow. Everything was so goddamn pink.
He looked over to her nightstand and saw picture of her in a lab coat at her old school. He walked over to the stand and opened the drawer. There was a notebook.
Invasion of privacy? Kwon couldn't care less.
He grabbed the book and started to read. While reading it, he discovered that she hadn't been to school for two years because of the incident at her old school. Which made more sense as to why she said she was graduating early even though she was eighteen.
The journal talked about a boy named Miguel Diaz. How he was her best friend but she had a crush on him. How a girl named Tory Nichols found this out and bullied her.
He read more to find out Miguel had kissed Jackie at a party and Tory was in rage. She attacked Jackie at school and Jackie was defenseless because she didn't know how to fight.
Miguel ended up getting kicked from the railing by another boy and became paralyzed.
Kwon closed the journal and placed it back. He assessed her character.
Jacquline Baker was a girl that was too nice for her own good that let shit slide too many times. She doesn't have a backbone and would rather have people walk all over her than to make enemies.
This was going to take more than he thought. He would have to break her spirit in order to transform her into someone like him. Heartless.
He walked over to her bed and saw her sleep. She slept like she didn't have a worry in the world.
That stopped today.
Kwon took the bottle of water on the nightstand. He took the cap off then dumped the water all over Jackie, waking her up.
"What the fudge?!" Jackie woke up, her face and hair completely drenched.
Kwon raised a brow when he realized something. "You don't swear?"
"No." Jackie coughed a little as the water got in her nose. "Why are you here? How are you here? What time is it?"
"Second lesson." Kwon says, ignoring her. "Survive. If you are not a survivor, then you should just kill your self right now. Surviving means doing the things that are necessary for you to live. Which means anticipating the enemy's attack."
Jackie looked at her clock and then back at him. "No offense but this couldn't have waited until a decent time?"
Again, with Kwon ignoring her, he crossed her arms and motioned to the ground. "Fifty push ups."
"But I'm half woke and sleep..." Jackie whined.
"Did I ask? I'm pretty sure I didn't. Do them now."
Jackie groaned, getting out the bed and onto the ground. She went on her knees to do them but Kwon kicked at her knees. "Hey!"
"Do them the correct way."
"Ugh. Okay drill sergeant." Jackie grumbled before doing them the normal way. When she made it at three push ups, she fell to the ground.
Kwon rubbed his temples in annoyance. "Good god I'm in for it."
Jackie was tired from all the push ups she was forced to do at one in the morning. When it hit three in the morning, Kwon left her on the ground.
She got as much sleep as she could. This was physically draining but Jackie promised she would do whatever Kwon said.
She was just wondering when the learning of fighting came in. Why was she doing all this trivial stuff? Why couldn't she kick ass now?
It was twelve in the afternoon and Jackie's parents were already off to work at their jobs. Her dad owned the big corporation Clicktok while her mother was a doctor at the hospital.
Jackie was dancing around the house as she listened to the music while studying for her AP Chemistry exam in a week. She pulled out cupcakes out of the oven when they were done. When they finished cooling off, started to place vanilla frosting dyed pink on top. That's when she heard a knock on the door.
She skipped all the way to the door. When she opened the door, there was one there. She shrugged and closed the door. Then felt some come behind her and wrap their arms around her neck.
Jackie started to freak out. She was kicking and screaming. "Survive."
She heard the familiar voice of Kwon. "Kwon? Are you serious right now?!"
"Dead serious. Survive."
His grip on her neck tighten. She tried to claw at his arms to get him to pull away but nothing could do it. She huffed out of frustration. "You didn't teach me any fighting moves!"
"A real survivor thinks without doing. Survive."
Jackie kicked her legs out but Kwon kept his grip. She tried to pull his arms away but Kwon was stronger than her.
She started to get tired. Kwon kept his strength. She started to feel like she couldn't breathe.
After some time, Jackie stopped trying and tapped Kwon to tap out. Kwon shook his head and released her. Jackie gasped for air, holding her neck.
Kwon looked at her disappointed. "You failed."
Jackie rubbed her neck while glaring. "Duh. You had me in an iron choke hold."
"You didn't fail because you couldn't escape. You failed because you gave up." Kwon told her. "It's like I said. Surviving is the act of continuing to live in spite of danger. You can't give up. Because the attacker won't give up on you. They will stop at nothing to have you in whatever way they like. So even when it gets hard, even when you think you can't do it, you don't give up."
Well that certainly wasn't what Jackie was expecting. She crossed her arms at him. "Well. I'll be sure to remember that the next time I'm in a chokehold."
"You better." Jackie took Kwon's hand, ignoring his glare as she brought him in the kitchen. "What are you doing?"
Jackie ignored his question and took a cupcake, placing it in his mouth. Kwon chewed questionably but then had a pleasant smile on his face. "Good huh."
"Yes. But who said you could have cupcake privileges?"
Jackie's face fell and she groaned. "Ugh. That wasn't a one time thing?"
Kwon shook his head and grabbed the plate. "Nope. See you, tomorrow." Before he walked out the house, he turned back to her. "Also, no short cuts until I say otherwise. Which means you walk or run everywhere. Or you don't go anywhere at all."
Jackie huffed as she watched him walk out the front door. This was going to be harder than she thought.
Jackie did not see Kwon the following day and it was now Monday. Jackie thought he did it on purpose so she wouldn't anticipate his attack.
She actually didn't see Kwon all day and thought he finished his work early to leave school.
With Kwon being gone all day, Jackie kept a low profile and surprisingly, things weren't as bad today.
Jackie was at lunch when she saw one of the other Americans that attended the school. Her name was Cameron. She was a white female with long dirty blonde hair and pink lip gloss on her lips. Jackie smiled at her color.
Maybe this was her chance to have to someone that could relate to her.
Jackie walked over to the table and sat down. "Hi. Jackie Baker. You're Cameron right?"
Cameron looked at Jackie weirdly as she bit into her sandwich. "Yeah..."
"I like your lip gloss. It's really pretty."
"Thanks..."
"Pink is my favorite color. It's a good choice."
"Why are you sitting here?"
Jackie cleared her throat. She sat up in her seat slightly before responding. "Well, with us being from America and all...I just think it's best if we stick together. You know?"
Cameron looked back at the table with Ha-Young and her friends. She was laughing at them. She sighed and looked back at Jackie. "Look, no offense. You seem cool. But everyone hates you...I don't know why but they do and...I'm not trying to be like you all day. Gets paper thrown at them, people say means things to you...it's a lot. So I can't be seen with you. Sorry."
Reality was starting to hit. Even when people didn't mind Jackie, she couldn't make friends with anyone because of everyone's perception of her.
Jackie felt tears come to her eyes. She tried to fake a smile. "Oh. It's okay. I understand. I'll just...leave you alone..." She stood up from her seat and heard Ha-Young and her friends laugh louder.
Boy did she want to just hit her in the face. But she couldn't.
Jackie felt embarrassment wash over her. She hated it here. She wanted to make a positive experience out this school but all she could think back to was her last school.
"You're coming over my house for the project right?" Miguel asked her. "I need you. I need your brain."
Jackie giggled. "Of course, silly. After school?"
"It's a date." Miguel kissed her on the cheek and walked away.
Jackie smiled to herself. Until Tory showed up. She shoved Jackie into lockers. She hissed at the pain. "Tory?"
"Didn't I tell you to stay away from Miguel?"
Jackie was tired from the torment that was Tory Nichols. She just wanted this to be over. "Does it matter? You two broke up."
She shouldn't have said that.
Tory grabbed Jackie by the neck and pushed up against the lockers. "Listen here you perky little bitch. I don't care. I told you to stay away...so stay the fuck away. Or we're gonna have a problem and your rich mommy and daddy aren't going to save you."
She felt Tory get pulled off of her. Samantha Larusso was the one who pulled Tory off and threw her to the ground. "Back off, Tory. Pick someone that actually wants to fight you."
Tory quickly got off the ground and in Sam's face. "That you, Larusso?"
"Maybe."
Jackie looked back and forth at the two and she shook her head. "It's okay. I'm fine."
The two stared down each other. Tory looked back at Jackie. "Watch your back."
When she walked away, Sam looked at Jackie. "You okay? Don't let her get to you."
Jackie felt at her neck from the memory. God, she couldn't catch a break. But at least she had Miguel, Sam, and Aisha.
She had no one here.
Maybe she did have Kwon but Kwon seemed more annoyed with her than anything.
She actually liked Kwon even though she could tell she annoyed him. Even though he was the brooding bad boy type that she usually stayed away from, he carried a certain energy Jackie was drawn to.
She just could tell they would make the best of friends.
Jackie took herself in the library. She decided to just skip eating all together and read some books.
She read the book Girl, Interrupted. Not something that was there but her own personal book she kept with her.
Someone sat in front of her and when she looked, she saw Park there. Suddenly those butterflies started to erupt in her stomach.
"I was trying to look for you at lunch but I didn't see you there."
Jackie nodded, closing her book. "Yeah. Just wasn't hungry."
"I was wondering if you could help me in AP Chemistry. I'm a little lost."
Her? Help him? Spending time with him? This couldn't be real.
Jackie nodded immediately. "Oh sure! Totally. When do you want to study? Where? We could always study at my house. It's pretty big. Not saying your house isn't big. We could study there too."
Park chuckled at her rambling. "You're cute." Those words made Jackie start giggling uncontrollably. "We can go to your house." He grabbed a piece of paper and wrote his number out. Then handed it to her. "Text me whenever you're free."
Jackie happily took the paper. "Got it. I will do that." She noticed a girl staring at them from across the room. She had really long dark black hair with front bangs. Her skin was pale white. Icy. She couldn't really see her eyes because of her bangs.
She just looked so cold.
Park noticed Jackie looking at the girl and quickly spoke. "That's Ahri. She's pretty weird. I wouldn't mess with her." When Park saw her, she put her head down. Jackie frowned a little. She felt empathy at the girl being called a little weird. "Well, let me know."
"Okay." Jackie said to him and Park got up and walked away. Jackie was interested in whoever the Ahri girl was.
Jackie started her walk home. While she couldn't make friends due to Ha-Young, she at least met a cute guy that seemed to be interested in her.
She just hoped that she wouldn't ruin it like everything else.
She started to become grouchy fifty minutes into her walk. She hated that Kwon was making her walk or run everywhere and not catch the bus.
Then she started to think. Where was Kwon?
Jackie made it to the steps of her house. She saw her parents were still gone. She sighed. She put her keys in the door and was about to turn the knob when she felt someone grab her neck from behind.
She started to panic but remembered the only person who would do this. "I'm not in the mood, Kwon. My feet are tired."
"The attacker doesn't care what you're in the mood for and wants you at your worst. Survive." Jackie clawed at Kwon's biceps but this only earned a chuckle from him. "I said survive. Not feel up on me."
Annoyed, Jackie took her feet and hit the door with it. It almost knocked Kwon and her over. She did it again and this time it did.
The two were on the grass but Kwon didn't break his grip on her neck. Jackie bit his arm. He hissed in pain, letting his left arm go but having his right arm around her still.
Jackie elbowed him in the gut and Kwon finally let go. She got up from the grass but Kwon pulled her back down.
He got on top of her. His hands were on her neck, choking her. Jackie started coughing. 'He is so extreme.'
Jackie kneed Kwon in the private area and he let go. She flipped them over and pinned him on the grass. Out of breath, she smirked down at him. "How's that for surviving?"
Kwon looked up to her, a little impressed. "Not bad, princess." He grabbed a leaf from her hair. He threw it on the ground and then placed the out of placed strain of hair behind her ear.
Jackie felt her face go red at the intimate act. She heard the hose go off and she turned to her neighbor Choi.
She looked frightened. She was an older lady. Jackie laughed a little, still on top of Kwon. "Just training Mrs. Choi."
As she watered her garden, she shook her head. "Kids these days."
"You gonna get up or you do you like being on top of me?" Kwon asked smugly. Jackie immediately got up and helped him back from the ground. "You did good. But I went easy."
Jackie gave him a look. "That was easy?! You were choking me! I was a terrified gazelle."
Kwon laughed. "You have a lot more to learn. Tomorrow you can learn how to fight."
Jackie's eyes lit up from that fact. "Really?" Kwon nodded and Jackie pulled him into a hug. "Yes! I can finally learn to fight!"
"You can't if you don't have both your arms."
Knowing what he meant, Jackie pulled away, forgetting he didn't like hugs. "Right. Sorry."
Kwon rolled his eyes and walked away. "Be ready, Jacquline."
By the name, Jackie let out a sigh. "I really wished he would stop calling me that..."
A/N :
Kwon be doing too much.
How we feeling Park?
Can't stand Ha-Young. And now she's got another American down.
And what's the mystery with Ahri? Who knows. (I do. I wrote the book.)
