the group all sat in eastyns room, staring at the ginger cat that's been sitting on the brunettes lap for the past few minutes, "i'm a cat person?" she shrugged, looking at the animal under her," thinking of it, i don't even know what to name her"

chris snickered before going back to being serious, "her?"

"yes, her christopher" she said, squinting her eye at the boy who was just trying to hold in his laugh.

"kitty?"

"no what the hell"

"nala , like the one in simba," eli suggests, to which her brunette friend jumps and nearly kills the cat from how she loved the name amy had thought of.

"yes yes!"

"be careful bro, you literally nearly killed the cat!" matt whined, now taking the cat in his arms. he was not much of a cat person but this one was different,

"never thought matt would hold a cat in my life but here we are?"

"i'll throw nala on the floor," he said, which made eastyn throw daggers at him.

"if you even dare-"

"i will!"

nic chuckles as he crossed his arms, kneeling backwards so he could whisper to his younger triplet brother,"is it just me or are they not arguing how they usually are?"

chris nodded, looking at nic then back at his friends, "they kissed"

"to be honest i feel like they did"

"you guys kissed just admit it!"

nic and chris have been forcing matt to admit it, as the oldest triplet paced around the room while chris just jumped on matt's bed to annoy him, "we never did!"

"we. don't. believe. you!" chris jumped on the bed, trying to make matt admit something they knew they were sure it did.

"so what if we may have kissed?"

"see matt you guys- WHAT!" nic was about to say another reason as to why matt kissed his for long nemesis, but he had already admitted he did. nic turned to the middle triplet with a cheeky grin only to find his cheeks changed into a tinted red, "oh!" he pointed to his cheeks, to which chris turned around to look at his brothers face.

"your so in love!" chris chuckled, now shaking his brother up and cheering him on.

"stop making it such a big deal"

"we're not?"

matt rolled his eyes, "clearly"

the friend group sat in the corner of the library, each of them interested in their own thing. chris sat next to eli as he had his arms around her, then looking at the phone eli was gripping onto and silently laughing at tiktok's they found relatable.

nic sat next to eastyn who was watching gilmore girls on her laptop, while on the other side of her sat matt, who kept his eyes on his phone (for like two seconds other than looking at tee)

nic turned around to look at matt, only to find him admiring eastyn. he rolled his eyes before mouthing something to matt to which the boy raised one eyebrow in confusion, signaling for nic to repeat what he was trying to say.

'your literally so in love'

matt only rolled his eyes at the comment, turning to eastyn to make sure she didn't hear his ruffling or see nic mouth those words. as usual, she was too into gilmore girls to realize her surroundings, "matt?"

he shot his eyes up, seeing a blonde girl infront of him. she gave him a soft smile as she slightly tilted her head, "hey! we haven't talked in so long?"

he squinted his eyes as he gave her a soft smile before standing up, "hey, um jolene right?"

"glad you remember my name" she chuckled, tucking a hair behind her ear.

eastyn looked up, seeing a blonde girl that seemed quite familiar, she just couldn't get her memories to work at this moment. she squinted her eyes, now relaxing who this person was.

3rd grade eastyn skipped through the school hallways, a wide smile on her face as she loved going to school, it was her favorite thing because she loved seeing her best friend, matt.

they'd sit next to eachother during class, play together in the sand pit during recess, and race to class once the bell rings.

she walks in class, the smile on her face now turning into a slight frown. she saw that jolene had been sitting next to matt, "um, hi jolene!"

jolene turned around, her expression turning into disgust but quickly changing once she saw matt turn around, "hey!"

eastyn tucks a hair behind her ear, "um i usually sit with matt"

"yeah well matty said i could sit next to him," she turned around to look at matt before placing her hands on his, smiling, "one day wouldn't hurt would it?" she looked up at eastyn, who was looking at matt.

"um yeah, sorry you can sit here"

but that sentence was the last thing eastyn should've said, because one day toluene's into one week, to one month, to three months. three full months.

after those months, eastyn had decided to go take her place, standing up from her new seat in the class and making her way to the play area outside before being stopped by two girls who happened to be jolene's friends, "hey eastyn right?"

eastyn tilted her head, "yeah?"

she two shared a glance before one of them put out her hand which gripped onto what seemed to be a letter, "matt wanted us to give you this"

the brunette looked at the letter for a minute then back at the girls before hesitantly taking  the letter from them, opening it and reading what matt had to say that he couldn't say face to face?

hey eastyn,

as you no(know) me and joe have been hanging out a lot, and i realized she's a really fun person to hang out with! she's funny, smart, and pretty, very pretty!

in those months where i got to sit next to her was amazing, i got to know her a lot better and i think i like her.

but the thing is she said that if i wanted to date her i had to not hang out with you anymore. and i really really really really like her, so i'm  sorry e.

im so so so so so sorry, but i can't speak to you again if i want to date her.

eastyn looked up at the two girls infront of her, wiping a tear from her cheek before shaking her head, "this isn't from matt"

"how do you know that?" one of the girls said, "he gave it to us ourselves!"

eastyn looked down at the letter, her hands shaking as her lips vibrated, another tear forming under her pupil.

she was lying to herself, this was matt's handwriting, she knew that. she knew it too much thag she had to deny it was him, how could he do this to her.

she turned around to look outside form the window, only seeing matt and jolene standing in front of the see saw. matt had been smiling at jolene, before she kissed him on the cheek.

eastyns mouth fell agape as she saw the boy infront of her, how could he do this to her? they've been best friends since kindergarten?

she's been with him through high and low but when he finds a girl he likes he'd drop her any second? pathetic.

she turned around from the view, now making her way outside. she folded the letter small enough to fit the pocket of her jacket before she made her way to the traitor, "don't ever talk to me again! i hate you i hate you!" she exclaimed, shoving past him as anger filled her emotions.

matt only looked at her blankly, "what? eastyn what's going on?"

but he didn't get a response as she made her way back to the classroom. ever since, eastyn swore to herself to never talk to matt ever again.

at first, he kept asking to talk it out but as time went on, he just went with the flow.

she quickly put her laptop in the laptop bag before shoving it into her backpack, now standing up and not even saying bye but instead making her way to the exit of the library. matt didn't even realize she left which made her feel 10x worse. great

a hand on eastyns shoulder made her stop in her tracks, she was two footsteps away from her english classroom. the girl turned around to be met with matt, "hey"

"hi"

he looked at her for a second before opening his mouth, "you okay?"

"fine" she quickly replied.

"you don't-"

"look matt, i need to get to class" she tried shoving past him, but instead was stopped by his hands on her waist, "hey, what's up?"

she gulped, his touch making her melt, her legs trembling ever so slightly. but the girl quickly got herself together, "'matt were in public" she mumbled.

he felt his heart twist, him being punched right in the gut. he knew that they had to keep it a secret, but now that he was showing it to the public, she wasn't ready yet. it's not like he blamed her for anything, but just felt like she would agree with him instead of throwing him in the dirt. or maybe the boy was being too dramatic.

he gulped, looking down at the floor as he slightly moved his body to the left, making sure there was enough space for eastyn to walk past him, to which she hesitantly did.

"fuck" he mumbled, now brushing his hands through his hair. he let out a sigh, turning around to look at eastyn who kept her eyes on the floor before turning around and walking to his class.

he didn't know what he did wrong.
