Taylor's POV
Taylor stood on the sidelines, her arms crossed and her foot tapping against the dirt as the rest of the team wrapped up another scrimmage. The game had ended a while ago, but Yuwen and Y/N were still out there, laughing about something as they picked up stray balls scattered around the field.
She clenched her jaw, forcing herself to look away, but her gaze kept drifting back to them. Y/N tossed a ball toward Yuwen, who caught it effortlessly, his grin as cocky as ever. Then he said something, and Y/N laughedβa bright, genuine laugh that made Taylor's stomach churn.
It wasn't fair.
She'd known Yuwen for years, played alongside him on countless teams, celebrated wins and endured losses together. She understood his drive, his quirks, even his infuriating ego. If anyone deserved his attention, it was her.
And yet, there he was, completely focused on Y/N, as if no one else on the field even existed.
Taylor tried to shake it off, telling herself it didn't matter. Yuwen was just being his usual flirty self. He was like that with everyoneβalways teasing, always playing around. But deep down, she knew this was different.
He didn't look at anyone else the way he looked at Y/N.
The team had moved to the dugout by now, packing up their gear and chatting about their plans for the weekend. Taylor lingered near the back, pretending to adjust the straps on her bag as she eavesdropped on Yuwen and Y/N.
"Alright, Y/N," Yuwen said, slinging his bag over his shoulder. "Next time, I'm not going easy on you."
Y/N rolled their eyes, a playful smile tugging at their lips. "You weren't going easy on me today, Yuwen. You're just mad I scored off you."
"Mad?" Yuwen repeated, raising an eyebrow. "Please. I'm just letting you think you're better than you are. Gotta keep it interesting, you know?"
Y/N laughed again, and Yuwen's smirk softened into something that made Taylor's chest tighten.
She couldn't take it anymore.
"Hey, Yuwen!" she called out, stepping forward. "Are you riding with me or not? I don't have all day."
Yuwen turned to her, his expression briefly flickering with surprise before settling into his usual nonchalant grin. "Relax, Taylor. I'll be there in a sec."
She nodded, but the sting of being brushed off was sharper than she'd expected.
As Yuwen turned back to Y/N, Taylor felt her frustration bubbling over. She knew she shouldn't care this much, but she couldn't help it. Y/N wasn't even part of the original group. They were new to the team, still finding their footing. So why did they get to be the one who caught Yuwen's attention?
Later, in the car, Taylor's irritation boiled over.
"You've been spending a lot of time with Y/N lately," she said casually, keeping her eyes on the road.
Yuwen, sitting in the passenger seat, shrugged. "Yeah, so?"
Taylor gripped the steering wheel tighter. "It's just... I don't know. Don't you think you're being a little obvious?"
"Obvious about what?" Yuwen asked, glancing at her with a confused frown.
She hesitated, debating whether to push the issue. "About... whatever it is you're doing with them. I mean, everyone's starting to notice."
Yuwen laughed, leaning back in his seat. "What, are you jealous or something?"
The question hit harder than she expected, and she felt her cheeks flush. "Don't be ridiculous," she snapped. "I just think you should be careful, that's all. People are going to talk."
"Let them," Yuwen said, his tone dismissive. "I don't care what people think."
Taylor bit her tongue, her chest tightening with frustration. Of course, Yuwen wouldn't care. He never did. But she cared, more than she wanted to admit, and it was becoming harder and harder to hide.
The rest of the drive was silent, the tension hanging heavy between them.
Taylor's POV (Later That Night)
Taylor lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling as the events of the day replayed in her mind. She hated feeling like thisβjealous, insecure, small. It wasn't like her.
But the image of Yuwen and Y/N laughing together, completely in sync, refused to leave her mind. She wanted to believe it didn't matter, that it was just a phase or a passing flirtation. But deep down, she knew the truth.
Yuwen didn't look at her the way he looked at Y/N.
And it hurt more than she ever thought it would.
