β
The night was quiet, the world outside bathed in the soft glow of streetlights. The moon hung high in the dark sky, its silver light slipping through the slightly opened curtains of your bedroom. A gentle breeze drifted in, causing them to flutter like ghostly whispers. The night was still, save for the occasional sound of a passing car in the distance. The kind of peaceful silence that made your bed feel extra warm and your blankets even cozier. But despite the comfort of your bed, there was one problem.
You were craving a midnight snack.
Your stomach grumbled softly as you lay on your stomach, hugging your pillow and scrolling mindlessly through your phone. Chips? Ice cream? Maybe a melon soda too? The more you thought about it, the more your cravings intensified. With a dramatic groan, you turned over and fished for your phone, already knowing who to call.
Bringing the phone to your ear, you kicked your feet up behind you, excitement buzzing in your veins as the call rang a couple of times before a familiar, slightly hoarse voice picked up.
"Tch, what now?" Keisuke's voice rumbled through the speaker, sounding a bit groggy.
You giggled at his gruff tone. "Kei, are you sleeping already?"
"It's midnight, idiot. What do you think?" You could practically hear him rubbing his face in frustration.
You huffed playfully, rolling onto your back and holding your phone above your face. "Well, I'm awake, and I have a very important problem."
"Yeah?" he muttered, unimpressed. You could picture him, messy-haired and rubbing his temple. "Lemme guessβthis is about food."
"Bingo! You know me so well." You beamed as if he could see you through the phone. "I really, really want some ice cream and maybe some chips. And maybe melon sodaβOoh! And those little custard puddings! You know, the cute ones with the caramel on top?"
Keisuke groaned, and you heard the faint rustle of blankets. "Damn, you're a piece of work, you know that?" But his voice softened as he added, "I'll be there in ten, be ready."
Your heart skipped a beat at his easy willingness. "You're the best, Kei!" You grinned and sat up excitedly. Just as you hopped off the bed to get ready, you heard another voice from down the hall.
"Y/N!" your mother's voice called.
You stuck your head out of your room. "Yeah, Mama?"
"If you're going out, can you get me some of those sweet potato mochi? And maybe some milk for the morning?"
You laughed, nodding. "Of course! Do you want anything else?"
"That melon soda you're always drinking. I wanna try it."
You gasped, placing a hand over your heart dramatically. "Ma, I finally convinced you?"
She shook her head with an amused chuckle. "I just want to see what the fuss is about."
"I promise, you will be converted," you declared proudly before rushing to change.
In a matter of minutes, you were dressed in your coziest hoodie and a pair of shorts, ready for your midnight adventure. Grabbing your phone and a bag, you slipped downstairs, heart racing in excitement as you waited for the familiar sound of a motorcycle engine.
Just as you reached the front door, a low, familiar rumble filled the quiet night air. Your lips curled into an excited grin as the sound of Keisuke's motorcycle grew louder, eventually coming to a slow stop right outside your house. You peeked through the window and, sure enough, there he wasβleaning casually against his bike, one foot resting on the ground while the other balanced on the pedal. His black hair was messy as always, tousled by the wind, and he wore a plain hoodie with sweatpants. Even in the dim glow of the streetlights, he looked effortlessly good.
You quickly grabbed the oversized jacket he always left at your place, slipping it on over your hoodie. It was way too big for you, the sleeves practically swallowing your hands, but you loved how warm and familiar it feltβlike being wrapped up in him.
Before stepping out, you called softly over your shoulder, "I'll be back soon!"
"Be safe! And tell Keisuke not to speed!" she called back, making you giggle.
Swinging the door open, you bounced outside, the chilly night air nipping at your legs. Keisuke turned his head as you approached, eyes immediately landing on the jacket you were wearing. His lips curled into a smirk.
"You really love wearing my stuff, huh?" he teased, tilting his head as he gave you a once-over. "Kinda cute, though."
You rolled your eyes but couldn't stop the giddy feeling from bubbling in your chest. "Well, duh, it smells like you," you said, slipping your hands into the too-long sleeves and wiggling your fingers. "And it's warm."
Keisuke let out a soft chuckle before jerking his head toward the bike. "Alright, princess, hop on. Let's get you your damn snacks before you start whining again."
You grinned, stepping closer as he swung one leg over the bike, settling onto the seat. Climbing on behind him, you instinctively wrapped your arms around his waist, pressing your cheek against his back.
He reached down, giving your wrist a gentle squeeze. "Hold on tight."
And with that, he revved the engine, the deep growl of the motorcycle cutting through the night as he took off. The wind rushed past you, cool against your cheeks, but you barely noticedβit was always like this with Keisuke. Every ride with him felt exhilarating, like flying through the night with no destination but wherever the road took you.
The ride was smooth, the city lights blurring past as Keisuke maneuvered his bike effortlessly through the quiet streets. The occasional streetlamp cast a golden glow on his sharp features, and even with the wind tousling his hair, he looked as cool as ever. You, on the other hand, were practically vibrating with excitement, your chin resting on his shoulder as you clung to him.
When you finally pulled up to the convenience store, Keisuke slowed to a stop, kicking down the stand before cutting the engine. You hopped off first, stretching your arms above your head as Keisuke followed suit, running a hand through his wind-blown hair.
"Alright, let's get this over with," he muttered, shoving his hands into his pockets as he walked toward the store entrance.
You giggled, skipping ahead of him. "Don't forget, we need to get Mama's stuff too! Sweet potato mochi, milk, andβoh! I finally convinced her to try melon soda."
Keisuke scoffed, holding the door open for you. "Took her long enough."
The familiar chill of the store's AC hit you as you walked in, the bright fluorescent lights making everything feel almost too awake for this time of night. You immediately made a beeline for the snack aisle, scanning the shelves while Keisuke trailed behind you with a lazy stride.
You grabbed a tub of ice cream, a couple of different flavored chips (including your favorite onion-flavored ones, much to Keisuke's annoyance), and, of course, a few packs of the caramel custard pudding. Keisuke wordlessly took the basket from your hands, holding it for you as you rushed to the drink section.
You plucked two bottles of melon soda from the shelf, holding them up triumphantly. "One for me and one for Ma!"
Keisuke smirked. "Bet she won't even like it."
You gasped dramatically. "How dare you? Melon soda is a lifestyle."
He snorted, shaking his head. "Yeah, yeah. Let's just grab her mochi and milk before you clear out the entire store."
After collecting everything on the list (plus a few extra impulse buys), you both headed to the self-checkout, Keisuke scanning the items while you fished out your wallet. He didn't even let you tap your card before stepping in front of you and paying himself.
"Kei!" You pouted, smacking his arm lightly. "You didn't have to do that!"
He side-eyed you, unimpressed. "What, you think I'm letting you pay when you dragged me out here? Like hell."
You huffed but didn't argue, instead flashing him a cheeky grin as you reached up to pinch his cheek. "You're such a good boyfriend, y'know that?"
Keisuke rolled his eyes, swatting your hand away with a smirk. "Save it."
Once everything was packed up, he hooked the bag onto the handlebar of his bike before leaning back against it, crossing his arms as he watched you. The night air was crisp, the streets quiet except for the faint buzz of a streetlight above.
You, being your usual self, wasted no time invading his space. You stepped between his legs, resting your hands on his chest as you peered up at him. "Y'know, I think midnight snack runs should be our thing. Like a tradition."
Keisuke raised a brow. "A tradition where you call me at stupid o'clock to drive your ass to a convenience store?"
"Exactly!" You beamed, drumming your fingers against his chest. "And in return, I give you my endless love and affection."
He smirked, hands resting on your waist as he pulled you a little closer. "Sounds like I'm getting scammed."
You gasped, pressing a hand over your heart dramatically. "Baji Keisuke! How dare you? My love is priceless!"
He chuckled, shaking his head as he leaned in, his forehead resting lightly against yours. "Whatever you say, sunshine."
You smiled, your arms slowly wrapping around his neck. "I do love you, though."
Keisuke stilled for a moment, his smirk softening into something more genuine. "Yeah?"
You nodded. "Mhm."
"Good," he muttered before closing the distance, pressing a slow, lingering kiss against your lips.
You melted into it instantly, fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt as your heart fluttered. His lips were slightly chapped, but warm, and his hands on your waist tightened just enough to make you feel grounded. When he finally pulled away, he rested his chin on top of your head, holding you close.
"You're lucky you're cute," he murmured.
You grinned, snuggling into him. "I know."
Keisuke groaned. "Tch. Cocky brat." But he didn't let go.
The night felt still around you, the hum of the convenience store sign buzzing softly in the background. Keisuke's arms remained firmly wrapped around your waist, his warmth seeping through your jacket as he leaned against his bike. The moment felt too nice to rushβjust the two of you, standing under the streetlights, holding onto each other like you had all the time in the world.
"You know," you mused, tilting your head up to look at him, "we should do this more often, it's romantic."
Keisuke raised a brow, his fingers tracing lazy circles on your lower back. "Romantic? You dragged me out of bed for ice cream and melon soda."
You grinned. "Exactly! Tell me that isn't peak couple goals."
He snorted, shaking his head. "You're unbelievable."
You only giggled, swaying slightly in his hold. "C'mon, don't act like you're suffering. You *love* spending time with me."
Keisuke sighed, but there was a ghost of a smirk on his lips. "You're a pain, but yeah... I do."
Your heart swelled at the quiet confession, and without thinking, you reached up to cup his face, your thumbs brushing over his cheekbones. His skin was warm beneath your fingertips, his sharp features relaxed in a way that only you ever got to see.
"I love you," you whispered, almost like a secret meant just for him.
His expression softened, and instead of answering right away, he rested his forehead against yours, his breath mingling with yours in the cool night air.
"Let's go," he murmured, voice lower than usual. "Before you start thinking of more ways to keep me out all night."
You grinned, pressing a quick peck to his jaw before finally stepping back. "Fine, fine. Next time, you're the one picking the snacks."
Keisuke rolled his eyes but didn't argue, instead lifting the bag off the handle and handing it to you before climbing onto his bike. You slipped the strap over your shoulder and hopped on behind him, wrapping your arms securely around his waist.
As the engine roared to life beneath you, you squeezed him just a little tighter.
"Hey, Kei?" you called over the sound of the bike.
"Hm?"
"I really love you, y'know."
His grip on the handlebars tightened just slightly before he muttered, "I know."
And with that, he took off, the two of you speeding into the quiet night, hearts full and stomachs soon to be satisfied.
The ride back was just as thrilling as the ride there, the cold night air rushing past you as you held onto Keisuke tightly. The city was quieter now, with only the occasional passing car or distant hum of life still stirring. But none of that matteredβyou were pressed against the warmth of your boyfriend, his scent lingering on the jacket you wore, the rush of adrenaline making you giddy.
When you finally arrived in front of your house, Keisuke slowed to a stop, kicking the stand down before cutting the engine. You hesitated for a moment, arms still wrapped around him, not quite ready to let go.
He must've felt it too, because instead of telling you to get off, he rested his hand over yours, squeezing lightly before twisting around to face you. "What, don't wanna leave me already?"
You pouted, playfully nudging your forehead against his shoulder. "Obviously not."
Keisuke chuckled, watching as you reluctantly slid off the bike. He followed soon after, placing his hands in his pockets as he eyed you with that lazy, knowing smirk of his. "You need me to walk you to the door too?"
You huffed. "Maybe I just want my goodnight kiss."
His smirk deepened. "Oh? That's all you want?"
Before you could respond, Keisuke grabbed your waist, pulling you flush against him. Your breath hitched, but you barely had time to react before his lips were on yours, warm and insistent. The kiss started slow, teasing even, but it didn't take long for it to deepen. His hands tightened on your hips, yours slipping up into his hair, fingers threading through the strands as you melted into him.
Keisuke kissed like he did everything elseβwithout hesitation, with a confidence that made your head spin. His lips moved against yours in a way that made your knees weak, the heat from his body seeping into yours as the world around you blurred.
And thenβ
*A throat cleared from the doorway.*
You *froze*, eyes snapping open as your heart nearly *leapt* out of your chest. Keisuke, however, didn't even flinch.
Your mother stood at the doorway, arms crossed, a perfectly amused expression on her face. She raised an eyebrow at the two of you, her lips twitching in amusement.
"Oh please, don't stop on my account."
Heat flooded your face as you quickly pushed yourself off of Keisuke, wiping your mouth with the back of your sleeve. "Ma! Whatβwhat are you doing out here?!"
"Waiting for my snacks," she replied nonchalantly, glancing between you and Keisuke. "But I see you two were busy."
You groaned, covering your face with your hands. "Oh my god."
Keisuke, on the other hand, was completely unbothered. He simply wiped his mouth with his thumb, looking like he was about to go right back in until you shot him a warning glare.
Your mother laughed at your reaction, shaking her head as she turned to Keisuke. "You staying for a bit?"
"Nah," Keisuke said casually, stretching his arms over his head. "She'll just end up talking my ear off all night."
You gasped dramatically. "Excuse you? I am a delight to talk to."
Keisuke smirked, reaching up to flick your forehead. "Sure you are."
You stuck your tongue out at him, which only made him chuckle as he turned back to his bike, glancing at you one last time. "I'll text you when I get home."
You nodded, still flustered, but your lips curled into a soft smile. "Be safe."
With that, he started the engine, the familiar growl filling the quiet street. He gave you a lazy two-fingered salute before pulling off, disappearing down the road.
You stood there for a moment, still dazed, before your mother's voice snapped you out of it.
"So." She gave you a knowing look. "Should I be concerned about you eating his face in our front yard?"
"Mom!" You turned on your heel, marching toward the door with your hands over your burning face.
She only laughed, following you inside as she locked the door behind her. "I mean, I get itβhe's handsome, a little wild, very grabbyβ"
"Please stop talking."
She snickered. "You know, I used to be your age once. I understand the hormones."
You groaned dramatically, stomping toward the kitchen to drop off her snacks. "I am going to bed. Immediately. Forever."
Your mother hummed as she inspected the groceries. "Mm. I better not hear anything sneaking in through the window."
Her laughter echoed through the house as you stormed off to your room, flopping onto your bed with an embarrassed groan.
Despite the teasing, despite the absolute horror of being caught making out in front of your own house, you couldn't stop the small, giddy smile that crept onto your lips.
You grabbed your phone, seeing a new message from Keisuke.
Keisuke: u alive or did ur mom kill you
You giggled, quickly typing back:
You: barely survived. might never recover. you're never allowed to kiss me in front of my house again.
Keisuke: I think i will
Your face burned as you buried it into your pillow, kicking your feet.
God, you were so in love with that idiot.

βοΈ author's note:
They can not keep their hands off each other it's disgusting really.
I tried to convince my mom to try melon soda, it's super good but she doesn't want to try :(
Anyways, I had no idea it had been that long GOOD GOD. Well I'm definitely going to start writing more for this book too.
Also I think I'm going to re-write the previous chapter, I feel like it's too rushed (?)
