โ€” chapter 1 โ€”

serotonin.

โ™ก

"good job bokuto-san," akaashi praised the captain as he landed gracefully on the gym floors cheering in excitement for his successful spike.

fukurodani had yet another one of their practice matches against a local school in the area to get some good training in.

of course with the school being a complete powerhouse they were dominating the court the score gap only increasing by the minute.

with bokuto, their ace making all of his spikes today and not going into his emo mode the game was greatly in their favour.

and as much as all the boys were ecstatic about so the setter himself had a worried pit in his stomach.

why was that exactly? his girlfriend y/n  l/n hadn't shown up yet as she had promised the boy that she would be there.

"you okay akaashi-san?" his teammate konoha asked putting a hand on his shoulder.

akaashi glanced at the boys' worried look giving him a nod in response, "i'm alright."

with that the game continued akaashi being the next to serve the ball.

bouncing it a few times he awaited for the ref to blow the whistle till he heard a familiar voice.

"nice serve keiji!" an angelic voice rang in his ears to which he looked up from the ball to see his girlfriend giving him a huge thumbs up a beaming smile on her lips.

this had made the boys attitude make a full 180 at the sight of her. but he couldn't help but notice the slight tint of sadness in her eyes.

'why was that?' the setter thought as he served the ball perfectly his eyes lingering on the girl for a few more seconds before giving his focus back on the game.

with that the game had continued with fukurodani keeping their lead as the energy in the team had been in top form today. but of course keiji's only thoughts were of y/n and her well-being.

as for the girl herself being the supportive girlfriend she is cheered her boyfriend and her school on not wanting to bask how she truly felt underneath her happy persona.

the girl had just discovered unfortunate news and didn't know how to tell anyone. especially him.

so y/n only kept the smile on her face pushing away her many thoughts as she watched her boyfriend in amazement.

"he truly is an amazing player," she mumbled letting out a small sigh.

as the game rolled around to an end y/n walked down the bleachers awaiting for akaashi outside the locker room.

in attempts to keep her thoughts from going everywhere she tried keeping her attention to her phone but had failed to do so miserably. the words she had just heard moments ago were engraved in her head.

'should she even tell him?' was the question that loomed in her mind as she stared at her phone in distraught before the noise of a door opening had sounded in the hallways.

averting her attention from her phone, y/n's eyes met with keiji as she couldn't help but let a genuine smile tug on her lips.

the same had gone for akaashi as well as he smiled at y/n as she ran towards him wrapping his arms around her waist in a tight hug.

"you did amazing keiji," y/n praised the boy before pulling away to give him a quick kiss on the cheek.

with the sudden display public affection he blushed slightly to which she couldn't help but giggle at.

"now as a token for winning i'll take you for some ice cream!" the girl grabbed akaashi's arm as she dragged him towards the school doors.

"you only want to get it because you're craving it right?" akaashi grinned at the girl who had a look of her own as she turned to meet his gaze.

"maybee."

and with that the two hand in hand walked to the local ice cream shop in the heart of tokyo.

as the two ordered akaashi had secretly tapped his card on the machine before y/n could even grasp what he was doing to which she only pouted in response before giving him a small kiss on the cheek.

now sitting at a small booth the ebony haired male could only watch his girlfriend in concern as she picked at her ice cream eating it a lot slower than usual.

the latter wasn't one to usual do such an action as she always enjoyed her food with pure bliss so akaashi couldn't help but ask the underlying question that had been stuck in his mind.

"are you okay sweetheart?"

at the nickname and gentleness in his tone
y/n's eyes to lock gazes with his whose was already looking at her.

"i'm fine," she responded giving him her signature smile in hopes of reassuring the boy but of course akaashi being the observant person he was had known that her words were a lie.

not deciding to push her further yet his eyes glanced down at her barely eaten ice cream cup, y/n quick to notice his gaze to which she grabbed a big scoop eating it in one bite happily.

but of course with how much she had just eaten her head had ached from so a brain freeze rushing to her head to which she winced in pain as she put the spoon back.

"ahh brain freeze!" y/n exclaimed quietly about to put her hands on her temples but was too late to do so as akaashi leaned forward doing it for her.

"you're so dumb sometimes y/n," akaashi chuckled as he rubbed her temples slowly to help with the lasting brain freeze.

the girl could only stick out her tongue in response before a small smile had curved onto her lips at her boyfriends actions.

"better?" he asked after a few seconds moving his hands back to which an idea suddenly came to y/n's mind as she shook her head in disapproval a frown on her lips.

at the sudden response keiji's face dropped at the sight of her displeasing look worried on how to make her feel better.

"i think a kiss will make it better."

with those words escaping  y/n's mouth the setters once worried expression turned into a deadpanned one as he stared at his girlfriend in disbelief.

"no."

"wahh why?!" she whined in response a visible pout etched on her face.

"because you made me worry for you when you said that you weren't okay."

of course akaashi was slightly teasing the girl as he was a bit nervous to show affection in a public place.

yes he did love his girlfriend very much but he was always a bit shy. he would show her a ton of love when alone but when in public he would be shy to.

akaashi was keen on his choice to not listen to her words till she gave him the puppy dog eyes.

his once deadpanned expression now softened as he stared at the girl in awe for a few seconds before leaning in to give her a soft kiss.

y/n giggled in response as she kissed him back happy of her success.

and with that the two continued to converse about their days the unsettling feeling looming between the two still in the air.

although each others company did bring the two joy, both knew that they were hiding something from each other.

~

"can we go to the pier please," y/n asked as her and keiji walked around the neighbourhood.

of course with her polite request keiji nodded in response as he pulled her in the other direction.

the pier was somewhere the two always went to together to not only admire the beauty view but cuddle up in each others embrace in attempts to enjoy the warmth they emitted.

so that's what the couple did. akaashi wrapped his arm around y/n's small figure as she leaned her head on his chest both of their feet dangling from the edge of the pier.

they shared a comfortable silence as they usually did whenever here but of course the undying tension was still there as both were contemplating on what to say to each other.

akaashi wanted to press y/n further on why she was late to his game today and why she had seemed off.

his mouth opened slightly as words were about to escape his lips but was quick to close as he heard a faint sigh.

"keiji," y/n said above a whisper as she tilted her up slightly to look into those beautiful blue eyes that reflected from the moon.

as akaashi looked at the girl inches away from his face he noticed the small frown on her face giving her his full attention.

"yes y/n?"

"i-i'm sick."

that's where his heart dropped.

those two words escaping the latters lips had felt like a pin dropping on a glass surface.

light yet the most deafening noise ever. something no one ever wanted to hear.

it only had gotten worse as he saw a small tear cascade down her cheek.

all the setter could do in this exact moment was tighten his embrace on y/n kissing her head countless times his eyes fixated on the ocean.

as she cried softly into his chest, keiji couldn't help but allow a tear or two prick from his eyes.

was this really happening to him when he was in his happiest state?

although his heart ached for himself it hurt even more for the girl still in his embrace.

"what is it? how serious is it?" keiji was finally able to say as question popped up in his mind.

"it's lung cancer, pretty ironic considering my aunt had it," she let out a small sigh. "it's only in stage two meaning that i still have a decent amount of timer but stillโ€”" she drifted off wiping her tears away.

at her words he had been a bit thankful.

thankful that they had discovered her cancer before it could be nearly impossible to somehow cure.

"i just want to live life to the fullest. i want to do everything with you keiji."

the boy averted his gaze from the water to y/n noticing the small smiling playing on her gorgeous face her eyes still puffy red.

"i honestly don't want to think of the bad things like how much time i have left or the seriousness of my illness. i just want to live in the moment and do anything and everything."

the setter took in her words as both had a serious gaze locked on each other.

'she just wants me to pretend she's not sick?' he nearly scoffed as it had been such a y/n thing to say.

nonetheless he respected her and didn't want the girl to feel weak in any sort of sense so he decided to oblige to her words.

"i'll always be here with you y/n. i'll do anything with you," he lightly smiled back tightening his hold as he kissed her lips gently nuzzling deeper in the embrace.

akaashi had known of y/n's weak immune system and how she would always fall under a simple cold or flu every so often.

but this wasn't a simple cold.

as much as he wanted to overthink the situation and ask his girlfriend many questions, in the end he just wanted to make her happy.

and that's what he was going to do for god knows how long.

he was going to let her live her life to the fullest and never leave her side.

Hope you enjoyed the chapter!

I just wanted to point out that this is written in Third person, omniscient meaning that all characters emotions will be shown.

But I'm going to mainly focus more on Akaashi.

ALSOโ€” I got the idea to write this book after watching I want to eat your pancreas so just thought I would mention that as well.

Finally I decided to put both Y/n and Akaashi in their third year instead of their second, meaning that they're the same age as Bokuto. So just thought that I would clear that up ahead of time if anyone gets confused in the future.

That's all!
