if things had gone differently.

"nice toss akaashi!" his teammate praised him as the setter's feet gracefully hit the gym floors the sound of the audience erupting in the crowd.

the motion of the scoreboard reaching the game. point and his teammates celebrating had filled akaashi's vision as he let out a tired breath.

yet as happy as he was his eyes were quick to avert to a certain spot, his ocean-cloured eyes instantly locking with her's.

there stood y/n with a huge smile on her face as she cheered along with the rest of the audience. akaashi couldn't help but break out into a small smile at the sight of his girlfriend who was here at his game, healthy.

"good job" was what he could faintly decipher from the movement of her mouth.

he couldn't wait to be in her warm embrace. and that's exactly how it had gone when keiji had exited the locker room, the feeling of a warm body hitting his own.

"you did amazing out there!" she had exclaimed as her arms wrapped tightly around the other's body. "i'm so proud of you and the team."

akaashi couldn't help but let a smile break out as he returned the hug, snaking his arms around his girlfriend's waist, digging his face into the crook of her neck.

"thank you baby," was what the girl could faintly hear being mumbled before a light kiss was set on the side of her neck.

she couldn't help but let out a small chuckle at the ticklish feeling of his lips on her skin, a faint blush dusting her cheeks from so.

y/n knew that her boyfriend wasn't one for public affection, so him doing such a thing had surprised her to say the least.

"clingy huh aren't we?" she teased as he hadn't let go of her, only tightening his grip around her from her words.

"mmm i'm just happy you're here," akaashi replied moving his head back to meet her questionable gaze.

the two had locked eyes with one another after akaashi had spoken their words, the h/c female eyes widened at his words.

the two had kept a gaze with one another as if she had been trying to take in his words. that is till a small smile crept onto her lips, only tightening her embrace on the male.

"i'm happy i'm here too," she whispered staring into his eyes lovingly.

"oi love birds stop making us all feel single!" the familiar voice had broken the two out of their moment as they turned to face a smiling bokuto.

"oh yea i'll let you go rest up!" y/n exclaimed as she let go of her boyfriend. "i'll be cheering you on," she squeezed his hand that was still enter wed with her's gently, the cheery smile still on her face.

she then turned to bokuto giving him a small wave and a good luck before letting go of akaashi's grasp. but she had failed to do so as he only tightened his grip pulling her back towards him.

with her eyes wide, akaashi swiftly wrapped his arm around her waist before setting a delicate kiss on her lips.

"k-keiji," y/n mumbled still in shock at the sudden action as her cheeks dusted with a light pink, surprised that they had done such a public gesture.

"see you later," he whispered into her ear squeezing her waist ever so slightly before letting go of her hand moving a step back.

the girl herself was still as shocked and embraced as she only nodded back in response before walking away from him.

akaashi only watched as his girlfriend walked towards the exit that let to the staircase a small smile on his lips.

"man to be in love!" the voice of bokuto had echoed in the semi-empty halls as he has a playful pout on his lips. "you look happier than usual."

those words had caused the black-haired male to widen his eyes at the word as his grey-haired bets friend walked towards him with a grin now on his face.

"happier than usual?" akaashi repeated the words aloud as he eyed the boy warily, somewhat confused at his words.

"yeah happier than usual," his best friend repeated the exact same words nothing else coming out of his mouth.

those words spoken by bokuto had been stuck in his mind for an endless amount of time. even when they were hear.

the sound of cheers surrounding the beautifully decorated banquet hall.

the two were quick to lock eyes with one another, a bright smile on the girls' lips yet was quick to break gazes with him by an excited kaori who gave her a huge hug.

they had finally graduated high school.

she couldn't believe it. out of nowhere started running down her cheek as she only tightened her embrace with kaori.

"i did it," she faintly mumbled to herself as a small smile broke out onto her face.

she didn't think that she would be able to do any of this. yet the day she had been fully free from her sickness, the girl saw a new sense of hope in her view.

she could always remember the happy tears running down her loved ones eyes as they pulled her in an embrace.

it was a moment of many she wouldn't forget.

after the many photos, hugs and such the couple had now found themselves sitting underneath a beautifully bloomed sakura tree, the quiet noise filling the air.

yet of course, something had been stuck in akaashi's unwavering mind as to eyed his girlfriend intently who was layed down on the ground staring up at the tree, her head placed on his laps.

"what's up keiji, you look like you're in deep thought," y/n asked as she poked his chest playfully in attempts to get him out of his trance.

"whatever happened to the love letter that we wrote 2 months ago that you were going to let me read once we graduated?" those words had come out of akkashi's lips stunning the girl as her e/c orbs had widened at his words.

"oh that..." the girl drifted off as she had thought back to what she had written in her letter. "just some random stuff!"

"random stuff?" the setter's eyebrow rose questionably as he noticed the nervousness in her voice, avoiding his longing gaze.

truthfully the girl had known exactly what she had written in there and hadn't wanted the boy to read it.

"so nothing will make you tell me?" akaashi questioned the girl to which she only shook her head in response. "not even if i do this—"

the sudden feeling of akaashi's hands meeting her waist as he tickled her cause y/n to laugh as she tried pushing him away.

"k-keiji s-stop," her laughter filled the quiet area as he only continued to do so not wanting her laugh to stop.

he found it so adorable how her eyes slightly closed, her nose slightly crinkled the more she would laugh. the laugh itself brought the setter a feeling of warmth and happiness he couldn't even explain.

yet the sudden movements had caused the two to move down, y/n's back now hitting the soft grass, her boyfriend on top of her.

as the black haired male had suddenly stopped tickling her, the girl slowly opened her eyes to meet his gaze. with was one filled with love.

"i love you so much," the boy whispered lovingly as his head rested on y/n's before setting a light kiss on her lips.

at the action she let out a small chuckle before bringing her hand running her thumb gently over his cheek. "i love you too, and thank you for always being there for me."

this is all y/n wanted and it had gone vice versa.. someone there to care for her and feel loved and that's exactly what akaashi had given her.

she was healthy, happy and living the life she had aspired to have.

if things had only gone differently.
