β™™CHAPTER ONE β™™

( SELENE HAYDES )

ONE: CHILD OF THE STARS

selene had spent the night before school sat in lydia's room watching the notebook on lydia's tv. selene was honestly sick of the movie but considering it was the girls favourite, she tolerated it. she just wished jackson and nicholas had been there with them. lydia had told her how he broke up with her, and considering nicholas and jackson were best friends he had also stopped talking to the girl. but she had just hoped for a normal night between the three of them before school started.

she had woken up an hour early for school, one of the most popular girls of beacon hills highschool was returning. she had showered and then curled the bottom of her hair, getting dressed into a blue, green and white checkered mini skirt, matching it with a white long sleeve blouse and navy blue button cardigan. she put on her knee high white socks and a pair of black heels. she looked over herself once in the mirror before smiling in content with her appearance.

"sexy school girl, i like it" lydia said walking past the girls room on her way downstairs, she winked at her bestfriend before selene threw a pillow at her causing her to duck.

"thank you though" selene shouted towards the girl walking down the stairs, as she walked out of her room to grab the pillow off the floor.

"oh, and lyds put my chocolate cake in my bag" selene shouted again, making sure her bestfriend would get her snack ready for her.

she was worried her magic would do something stupid today considering she hadn't been practising it, and whenever she was in certain situations it would start acting up making her hand or sometimes even her whole body glow. she only hoped nothing would happen to make her act out.

――――

lydia had driven her and the girl to school, outside waited a pretty raven haired girl. she was the same height as selene, as she wore her heels. and she had let a smile grace her face when she saw lydia, although it slightly faltered when she saw selene not knowing who the girl was.

"allison, meet selene haydes. selene, allison argent" lydia said walking up to the girl, allison. they both smiled before exchanging small waves.

"you really don't remember anything?" allison asked lydia as they walked towards the front doors, well lydia did causing the two girls to follow her.

"they called it a "fugue state" which is basically a way of saying, "we have no idea why you can't remember running through the woods for two days naked" lydia scoffed as she tried avoiding the conversation.

"but personally i don't care" she shrugged "i lost nine pounds" lydia smiled, making allison laugh. but selene shot the girl a concerned look that she was avoiding it. she knew lydia had seen something but the girl wouldn't tell her.

"are you ready for this?" allison asked as selene put her hand on the handles of the doors.

"please. it's not like my aunt's a serial killer" lydia scoffed before opening the door and walking in.

"as you've probably realised, lydia is the most unapologetic bitch you'll ever meet" selene said scrunching her face with a smile, before following lydia.

although the three girls were stopped from walking any further as all the eyes in the hallway turned to look at them. more specifically lydia, some eyes drifting to selene.

"maybe it's the nine pounds" selene whispered to her bestfriend to try and comfort her and boost her confidence. because she couldn't let lydia be embarrassed.

lydia sighed out loudly before strutting off, causing everyone in front of her to clear a path for the girl. allison smiled largely to selene before the darker girl linked their arms and followed behind lydia. making sure to keep a close eye.

――――

the girl had gotten through most of her day normally, catching up with some old friends she remembered. she had already been asked out by two boys on the lacrosse team but declined them both, stating she was focusing on her studies. everyone remembered selene haydes, and she had made sure of it.

she hadn't seen jackson or nicholas like she wished, she hadn't even seen the stilinski boy. either way she had a free period and decided she would go watch the lacrosse practice. lydia and allison had class so she was all alone.

as she walked through the hallway to get to the doors that led to the field she was too preoccupied putting her schedule in her school bag that she had her head down. the girl didn't know she bumped into someone until it was too late. she had prepared herself for her ass to hit the cold floor, but the impact never happened.

instead a large hand gripped her arm, and stopped her from falling. she slowly opened her eyes which were squeezed tight. and came face to face with a maroon lacrosse jersey. the number 14 written across. she lifted her head to be faced with a boy.

he was really good-looking selene thought to herself. he had dirty blonde hair which was curly, fair skin and blue eyes. stupidly gorgeous blue eyes. he looked embarrassed and kept his head down, as a frown crossed his lips.

"shit! i'm sorry, i wasn't looki-" the boy had started but was cut of by selene laughing slightly. isaac had just bumped into selene haydes and now she was laughing at him. great.

"it's okay, basically my fault" she said smiling towards the boy as he kept his hand on her arm. the two were left in a awkward silence as she inspected the boys face. she was snapped out of her trance when she saw the boys eyes flash amber. she wasn't sure if her eyes were deceiving her but she gasped as she stepped out of the boys grip.

the boy was confused on what happened to shock her like that, but the clock in the back showed he was late for practice and he had to go. "sorry, again" he apologised before running out of the doors.

the girls hand started glowing purple, causing her to pull it into her chest rapidly so no one could see. "fuck" she whispered harshly.

she tucked her hands in between the crooks of her arms before rushing out to the field. she was still curious about the boys eyes, and wondered why her hand went purple. it was a new colour to her.

she swore she had seen him somewhere before, like she had an interaction with the boy. but she wasn't sure. as she made it to the field she heard wolf whistles from some of the boys on the field but rolled her eyes and continued to the front of the bleachers.

the girl had decided to look out for number 14 and jackson, knowing the whittemore boy was still on the team. she had noticed another body which looked familiar. she didn't know who it was but it could've been stiles.

――――

scott and stiles were interrupted from their whispering, trying to figure out a plan to find the werewolf when scott smelt a familiar scent. it smelt like cake? chocolate cake, the boy clarified for himself.

scott's head shot away from stiles towards the bleachers looking for the girl. when his eyes set on her. selene haydes. she looked different. the year she was gone, she had grown physically. she looked more mature but still as beautiful as he had remembered.

"scott? buddy, hey!" stiles said snapping scott out of his trance by hitting him in the side of the head.

"what are you looking at..." stiles started as he turned to look in the same direction as scott. his words silencing out as he saw the girl. he sighed out before turning back to scott "yeah, she got back two days ago" he explained making scott's head snap to him.

"and you didn't tell me?" scott asked exasperatedly as he hit stiles on the arm roughly, his werewolf strength coming out.

"i didn't think i had to!" stiles whispered as he prayed the boy wouldn't go back to wanting to be her friends.

before scott could argue with the boy coach had interrupted the two "let's go! line up!" he yelled causing the two boys to split up.

――――

selene hand began to tingle more than usual, and the purple glow could still be seen. she looked around to see if anyone could see, before her eyes caught the back of jackson whittemore's head. the girl had missed the boy and saw he had gloves in his hand. perfect.

"jackson!" she yelled as she got up from her spot on the bleachers and running as quick as she could in heels towards jackson. the blonde boy looked up at the voice and let a large smile cross his face.

"lena" he grunted out as the girl squeezed him tight, his bite mark aching but he couldn't let her know that.

the girl pulled back hearing his sound of pain but the look on his face made her not question it. "first of, can i wear you're gloves. my hands are freezing" she rushed out before he could say something.

he laughed before throwing them at her chest, she quickly snatched them and turned around putting them off. the purple glow being contained for now. she turned back around and took a seat next to him on the bench.

"why aren't you playing? and where's nicky?" she asked as she sat closer to him and leaned her head on his shoulder.

"not feeling well" he said, trying to not let too much off. he couldn't let the girl know about the supernatural or get involved with what was happening. "and he's not in today"

her hand instantly shot to his forehead, checking for a temperature but then realised the gloves weren't helping. but she did see a faint black mark above his top lip. as though it was a nose bleed, but black blood?

"i was really hoping to see him" she frowned as she thought of the asian american boy. he had been a bestfriend to the girl before she left.

"mccall! usually the goalie stays somewhere within the goal" coach finstock shouted out towards the players causing jackson and selene's head to snap towards the players.

selene squinted her eyes towards the field, at the boy in goal. mccall. scott mccall. the girls head suddenly hit her with memories of the boy, her mum and his were friends, she used to go round his house when they were little all the time. but before they started highschool she had stopped speaking to him as much and started hanging out with lydia. he had definitely changed since she last saw him. he changed his hair, gained some muscle.

she did admit though, the boy was acting strange on the field. every person that ran to shoot was tackled by the boy as he left the goal. it wasn't how you played and even she knew that.

"stilinski? what the hell is wrong with your friend?" coach called out to stiles as he looked to the other bench across from selene and jackson to the right.

"uh, he's failing two classes, he's a little socially awkward, and, if you look close enough, his jaw line's kind of uneven" stiles started listing, causing coach to groan. selene made a note to look at his jawline next time she was close to him.

"that's interesting" coach said sarcastically, rolling his eyes.

scott kept going out of the goal, and stayed on top of danny longer than anyone as if he was having a conversation with the boy. selene had spoken to the boy a few times throughout the day, him being genuinely nice. not just cause she was popular.

"mccall! you come out of that goal one more time, and you'll be doing suicide runs 'til you die! it'll be the first-ever suicide run that actually ends in suicide! got it?" coach screamed out frustrated with the boy.

"yes, coach!" scott answered. selene could hear the crack in his voice, meaning he was lying. she was slightly worried for what the boy was trying to do.

selene noticed that it was number 14, the one she had bumped into in the corridor. he got ready, his taller stance towering over the people behind him. before he was off, scott also coming out of goal causing coach to throw his clipboard to the floor.

scott and the boy ended up crashing harshly before hitting the floor, she could see the amber through both of their helmet gaps. there was something up with both of them, and she was sure she'd find out. they had to be supernatural.

the girl abruptly stood from where she sat, but before she could move forward the sheriff department had shown up. sheriff stilinski made his way forward, handcuffs ready. number 14 had gotten up and walked forward knowing what was going to happen. sheriff stilinski started walking the boy back to the cop car before shutting the doors and driving him away leaving everyone confused.

selene quickly waved bye to jackson before rushing over to the two boys in the middle of the field who looked deep in conversation. she was able to overhear the last of their conversation. "his father is dead. they think he was murdered" scott whispered, although not quiet enough

"his dad's dead?" selene said out loud causing both of the boys heads to snap towards her, eyes widening and feet moving towards her quick.

"selene! no, smh" stiles started repeating over as he stared the girl down, wondering what of the conversation she had heard.

"do they think he killed him?" she asked again, ignoring the boys horrible attempts at convincing her otherwise.

"wait- why do you care about isaac?" scott said beating stiles to speaking, both boys didn't even know she knew the lahey boy.

"i don't, i just met him." she said suddenly becoming defensive before taking a step back, she remembered what she had seen in scott's eyes. and not knowing what he was worried her slightly.

she turned around ready to escape the questioning but scott grabbing her wrist gently caused her hand to start tingling again, making her rip her arm away from him. he thought he had hurt her considering how she reacted but stiles could see the faint flow coming from the glove. his eyes widened but he didn't say anything as he waited to see how the conversation would play out.

"listen here, scott-" the girl was cut off from her scolding by scott.

"wait you remember me?" he asked as he scrunched his eyebrows at the girl. she tilted her head as if it was obvious.

"we grew up together, obviously" she said in a duh tone, the boys heart began to warm with an unknown feeling.

"and you stilinski, don't think you're out of this. i know you're hiding something and i'll get to the bottom of it" she threatened lowly.

she started walking away towards the school doors, she needed to check her hands. so she went to the first empty classroom she could.

"her hands" stiles whispered. "her hands" he repeated looking at scott, who watched her retreating figure. "they were glowing!" he gasped, knowing she was hiding something to.

――――

the girl had done a good job avoiding the duo as it was coming to the end of the school day. she had been called to the principals office with jackson to be questioned about isaac. she didn't know why she was there, but jackson was because he lived across the road. they had already questioned her about when she spoke to isaac right before they went out and now were asking jackson.

"listen to me - so you knew isaac's father was hitting him?" sheriff stilinski asked jackson with wide eyes his voice slightly heightening.

selene looked at jackson annoyed that he didn't tell anyone that. he could be such a jackass sometimes she couldn't stand it. "hitting him? he was kicking the crap out of him" jackson scoffed as he didn't dare to meet selene's eyes.

the girls head started pounding as she reminded herself why she was his friend still. "did you ever say anything to anyone? a teacher? a parent? anyone?" sheriff tried to find some sign of hope that jackson cared but from the look on the boys face he knew there was none.

"nope. it's not my problem" he said shrugging leaning back in his chair.

"no. no, of course not. you know, it's funny that the kids getting beaten up are always the ones who least deserve it" stilinski said sarcastically as he stared at jackson.

"yeah" jackson said as if was obvious he had lost all interest in the conversation as he stared at the pen on principal argent's desk. "wait. what?" he asked finally processing what the man said, making selene laugh slightly. the girl covered it up with a cough quickly after the looks she recieved.

" i think we're done here. selene, may you stay though" mr. argent asked as sheriff escorted jackson out. before she was interrupted by two sets of footsteps behind her.

"boys... sit down, please" he said to the bodes behind her. a chair was pulled on either side of her. stiles to her left and scott to her right.

"scott mccall... academically not the most accomplished, but I see you have become quite the star athlete!" the older man said reading through the boys file.

selene could feel the tiny bit of energy her right hand was giving off before seeing the purple glow from her palm. she moved it t her leg to conceal it, but both boys saw.

"mr. stilinski... oh, perfect grades, but little to no extracurriculars. maybe you should try lacrosse?" the man said making selene giggle.

"well, actually-" stiles was cut off by mr. argent continuing

"and selene haydes. perfect grades, new member of the cheer team and newest member of the science club" the man smiled at her. she nodded her head back as a thanks.

"hold on... mccall. you're the scott that was dating my granddaughter." the older man said turning to the mccall boy.

"allison?" selene interrupted, putting two and two together. an ex she was avoiding, argent and argent. murderer aunt.

"we were dating, but not anymore. not dating, not seeing any of each other, or doing anything with each other at all..." the boy said anxiously becoming nervous.

selene noticed how his hands had became clammy as he wiped them across his jeans, the boy was lying. him and allison were still togethar.

"relax, scott. you look like you're about to crack a cyanide pill with your teeth." the man joked, but the dark glint in his eyes worried selene.

the last bell of the day shocked selene, she was meant to be leaving. but she couldn't she knew she had to check on the isaac boy. something bad was going to happen, and she could feel it.

"mr. argent, may i please go? i have tons of homework to catch up on at home" the girl requested sweetly, knowing the man couldn't decline.

he nodded before she picked up her bag and waved goodbye sweetly before exiting the room. she needed to get home drop her bag off and then she'd make her way to the police station to see what's up. the glow in her hand didn't die down and now she was really worried.

――――

lydia was out in the garden walking around on the phone, so selene decided to just drop her bag off and leave. hoping the girl wouldn't notice. she sat in her car, just pulling up to the sheriffs station. as she exited she saw stiles and a slightly older man. is everyone here attractive? she thought to herself as she approached.

she saw the two man hiding behind a wall as they stared at the man at the front desk. thinking of a way of sneaking past. she pushed in between the two interrupting the
