HEADQUARTERS
The bustling of soldiers running around, and the screams and cries of panicking wasn't helping the fact that the breach is wide open for all titans to come through. These soldiers were trained for this, and I hope they look past this now. Yet again, we were at peace for a good five years.
Five years.....since I lost everything.......
The bell sounded of the emergency, as word sprouted around alerting all soldiers to gather at HQ. We needed to give out a quick short plan of attack, even though we prepared for something like this.
People in the district screaming and running, heading towards the back exit through Wall Rose. Hearing the distant fires of cannons echoes, coming from the garrison soldiers. Storming through I head to the main gathering, pushing through soldiers until a few saw me with relief.
"It's Corporal Akira, she'll know what to do!!!"
"Yeah, she's our strongest right now!"
Narrowing my eyes they met with Kit'z, another garrison Captain who always had his tail between his legs. "Corporal Akira thank good--"
"Not now Kitz, let me organise the squads," not wanting hear anything, but a plan put to action. Once I stood before all the cadets, their attention falls upon me with fear in their eyes. Tightening my hands into fists, I clear my throat addressing my presence.
"As you all trained, we have prepared for this!" I began, vehemently. Gesturing to squads already together with my hand, "Split into groups, and as under the Garrison's orders, you will resupply combatants, relay orders and eliminate the titans! Do you understand?!"
"Yes, Corporal!"
Turning to Kitz he seemed to have a plan in motion, allowing him to speak up on his plan of attack.
Stepping forth he clears his throat, "Garrison intercept forces will form the vanguard! Trainees, led by the supply team, will comprise the middle guard! The garrison elite forces will form the rearguard. Also, messengers report that the advance team has been neutralized. The outer gate has been compromised, and titans have entered the city. In other words, the Armoured Titan may appear at any time, to destroy the inner gate!"
Soon they all begin to chatter while panicking amongst themselves, while I send a heavy look.
"Silence!" I yell, earning their attention again.
Giving Kitz the nod to resume, "As we speak, the vanguard is engaging them," Kitz continues. "We have but one objective in this fight: to defend Wall Rose with our lives until the evacuation is complete! Also, as you are surely aware, desertion in the face of the enemy is punishable by death. Mark this well, and fight to your last dying breath! Dismissed!!!"
"Yes sir!!"
Once they all disperse to their assigned squads together, I went to leave to do my own solo mission on taking titans down alone. Knowing my capabilities taking them down, especially with more leverage inside the town, I had more space to hook onto.
"Corporal, what will you do?" Kitz questions, hastily.
Pulling my hand grips out I turn to him, "I will try and take down as many as I can, we're not dealing one or two," I reply. "Maybe you should do something about it, instead of cowering behind your younger cadets."
He irks an eyebrow, "how dare you! Isn't that what the survey corps do, fly into the jaws of death!" He yells, rhetorically. "Give your lives, than the Garrison I'd say!"
Blood boils underneath my skin, while maintaining my anger.
Without another word I take off to the centre of the district, to aid the people who are still trying to flee from their home.
**
The wind pounds against my ears while slicing through the nape of a titan, blood spraying in all directions. Flicking my hair to the side, I land upon the plated roof almost losing my footing. The heads of titans appear behind houses, and some standing taller.
Sudden flashes of the nightmare five years ago, soon clouded my eyes.
Blinking my eyes a few times I try to focus on my targets, that wandered purposefully through the town. Their heavy stomps thundered beneath me, still feeling the earth trembling from the rooftop. My head snaps in either direction, before moving quickly towards the back.
Allowing my senses to cover my radius, a cry of a child soon pierces into the air.
Snapping my head in the direction of the source, a titan's hand slowly swipes my way. Dodging the attack sharply, I twist my body to fly above it before angling my blades down. Reactivating my grappling hooks I embed it into the shoulders, before pulling myself down slicing through with full brunt force.
Exhaling for a moment, I soon sharply and quickly begin flying down to find the child.
The child continues to cry out, while I fly around corners of building side to side before finding it was a little girl. Swooping down my eyes catch sight of a titan, about to grab the child. Leaning forward my body moves a little faster, before embracing the child into my chest.
"It's okay, you're safe," I coo gently, while she grips onto my tightly.
Guiding my body through the buildings, I cover the girl's eyes not wanting to scare her more than she's been through. Her small sobs were heard, tears soaking my jacket. Narrowing my eyes, I dodge as many titans to get to the mother or anyone who knew this little one.
Finally reaching towards the back I saw the people screaming, and rushing down before I notice a young woman pushing away the opposite direction. She began calling out, eyes darting around while shoving past the panic of people. Flying down towards her, I land before her.
"Is this your daughter?"
Her eyes widen with sudden relief before scooping her daughter up, before thanking me multiple times. Accepting her thanks, I usher the two to keep moving forward. This was such a sudden attack, no one was prepared enough for an evacuation.
"Get out of here, hurry!!!"
Once I watch the two reach the group of people, I soon turn back to the titans that threatened the town. With fresh blades still in tact, I push off before soaring through the air. Gripping the handles tightly, I began slicing my way through the titans. Squads were doing their part, positions were in motion. All we could was try and take many titans down, or at least block that giant hole.
Just when I notice Eren's squad was in view, something collides into me. My body couldn't react quick enough, as my body went through glass that shatters. Clenching my jaw tightly grimacing in pain, my body rolls into the floor of the building while I pushing myself with my knee.
"Hmm,"
My eyes lift up to notice it wasn't a titans hand, but someone whom I'm not wanting to see. This was the wrong time, wrong place..........why him of all places?
"Why weren't you at the expedition, Walsh?" I question sternly, not wanting to put up with his bullshit.
He whips out a blade without uttering a word, making me stand up sharply. Blood rolls down my forehead, before feeling slight pain. Focusing on Peter, he soon charges towards me. Dodging his attack, he swings with purpose before he sends a backwards kick to my torso. About to collide into the wall I pick myself up, before charging head on.
"Walsh, enough!"
Ignoring me I sigh heavily before jumping up, wrapping my legs around his neck, twisting my upper-half and slammed him to the ground. He yells out in pain, while I slam my foot on his wrist making him release the blade, as it clatters to the floorboards, while my heart was beating heavily.
"We have bigger problems!" I snap angrily, while digging my knee into his shoulder blade. He groans in pain while a fire flickers behind his eyes, "You won't win this, give up--"
The sound of the wall crashes down, causing myself to jump out of the way. The dust surrounds us both while accumulating in the air, before it clears seeing a titan grinning ear to ear while reaching towards me. Growling with irritation, I push off and locked on my target before slicing it's nape.
About to fly off leaving Peter, he suddenly collides into me.
This time our bodies hit against the rocky pavement, feeling the wind knock from my lungs. Coughing and spluttering, my hand sneakily whips out a small blade in my left thigh holster. Waiting for him to come any closer, he steps towards me before attacking me.
In a blink of an eye, I dodge the attack and commando rolled to the other side.
My eyes flicker to him and then the titans, that bounded their way around the buildings. This wasn't the time for a tiny civil battle, as we're dealing with our enemy. A titan made it's way slowly towards us, as I send a sharp uppercut to Walsh. He blocks my second attack, while his blade settles below my neck.
"I want to see you suffer, after the pain you put me through!" He yells angrily, while my attention focuses on the titan that slowly made it's way towards us. My hand grips his arm, but I saw him about to make his next move. Pushing back from him, sudden pain shoots across my left eye. Losing my voice in the process, I grip his wrist and kicked his feet from beneath him. He loosens his grip on the blade, his knees slamming into the pavement with an unsettling crunch.
"Shit!" he curses, before I slam my knee into his skull making him unable to move much.
Pain was throbbing against my skull, while I tried to keep my distance from him. My eye was covered with blood, I couldn't even stop the bleeding. With many quick decisions to make, the titan was soon on top of us both. Peter's eyes soon widen with fear, before he stood up with pain contorting his face.
Activating my ODM I aim towards the titan, digging both handles into some fresh new blades.
Shutting my left eye tightly I kept my focus upon the beast, before making my way around it. Gathering the momentum I raise my arms together in sync, before slicing through the thick flesh while watching it tumble to the ground before Peter who kneeled their, wide eyed.
Without another word said but a dangerous glare his way, I make my way to search for any soldiers in need of help. With my adrenaline running, it numbed the pain. Finally finding a safe resting spot for the time being, I knelt down before ripping my lower hem of my shirt, before stretching it out. The air my lungs was grasping for more, still lacking air from the fall.
My eyes dart around sharply keeping a keen out out, while adjusting the torn material around my eye. Applying some little force against the wound, I managed to hold down some pressure to stop the bleeding.
Inhaling sharply through my teeth, I soon tightened the knot before picking my blades up.
The sounds of cannon fire was heard in the distance, while hear screams and cries of protest and fear. Before hesitation could set in my mind, my feet began to take a run up before jumping off activating ODM yet again. The wind pounds against my ears, while the wound unbearably throbs making it difficult to focus. While trying to maintain my focus on the threat, soon my eyes slowly widen realising something.
A pattern......no, it's not done.......the armoured hasn't shown himself yet.......
My grip around my blades tightened more feeling like they were whitening, feeling the haunting memories flashing in my head. My mother, my sister......it's all because of those two, they were the cause of everything. Holding in the painful tears, all I held was anger and rage that is tamed down for now.
*
Panting heavily as titans drop one by one, my blades were shattered and I was left with nothing. My shoulders were aching, and my hands were reddening from my grip. Rolling my shoulders back, my wound across my eyes wasn't even helping my situation. Why hasn't any back up weapons been given out? Tanks will soon being empty, with nothing but adrenaline keeping those soldiers alive.
Holding the blunt blades in hand, all I could remember when five years ago everything went blank. It was like I was sleepwalking, but fighting with whatever I held left. My intuition was the same, sinking in and out of consciousness. My main goal now is to protect the new cadets, whilst trying to take down as many titans as possible. Yet, those cadets began fighting without any Commanding Officers, except myself.
Just earlier though, a withdrawal signal was fired in the air. Was there too many?
The rain showers down while I flick my hair to the side, before activating my ODM making my way towards where the gas tanks and blades were kept. While doing so my eyes trail around, keeping eyes on any civilians, soldiers or titans around. Just thinking everyone was gone, my eyes fall upon a group of soldiers huddled together upon a building. Didn't they see the withdrawal signal before?
Furrowing my eyebrows, I lift my head only to see the problem.
'They're overrun by titans'
Landing upon the tiled roof all eyes follow to see me, as relief washes on all their faces. "What's going on, are you all out of gas to withdraw?" I question sternly, while I notice jean and Connie walking up to me.
Jean growls with anger, "Those damned cowards won't even fight back!"
My eyes scan the group, "Does anyone at least have sharp--"
"Corporal, what happened to your face!" Christa exclaims, with worry lacing in her voice. "It's all bloody, did something happ--"
"Right now my wounds don't matter, now does anyone at least have one set of blades left?" I question sternly, turning to all of them.
Confusion settles upon the frightened soldiers, while I glance around not having any moment to think on the negative. It's like they all lost hope already, so fast and within one day facing the real enemy than fake dummies. With the entire veterans in the Vanguard force seemed to be wiped out, and these rookies have no idea what to do but avoid the suicide mission they might have to face.
"But why, we're outnumbered?" Christa points out, gesturing to the HQ.
"If anyone has a pair of semi-decent blades, give them to me!" I snap angrily, trying to toughen them up. "I didn't train you all to be cowards! If those cowardly soldiers in HQ won't resupply because of death, then we all should be just titan fodder!"
They all went silent, when one soldier shakingly passes me a pair of blades.
I loved all these kids with my heart, but they need to realise this is what we do in the military force. Being a Garrison, an MP and a Scout. Suicide is what we do everyday, so we can open the world to the next generations to come. We must keep our home alive, even if we must suffer the consequences.
Soon I hear the sound of ODM coming down our way, before my eyes flicker over to see Mikasa. She lands upon the plated roof, running towards Annie who seems emotionless as usual.
"Mikasa! Weren't you with the rear guard?"
"Annie!" She calls out, seeing her approach Annie with fear in her eyes. "I know how bad things have gotten. It's selfish. Putting personal matters in the forefront, but have you seen Eren's squad?"
My eyes trail back to Annie, while my hand grips the handle tightly.
"Some squads made it back, but I don't know about Eren's," She replies, verily. Reiner soon gestures over to see Armin tucked in the corner, head down with knees shielding his face.
He points in his direction, "We found Armin, he's over there,"
Mikasa races towards him, "Armin!" She knelt down, while I listen in. "Armin, are you okay? You're not hurt, are you?"
"......"
She stood up without him answering, while glancing around, "Where is Eren? Armin?"
His head shot up with large tears in his eyes, teeth clenched while showing complete regret flickering behind his eyes. My heart was pounding, hoping nothing had harmed Eren or any of soldiers at least. He continues to cry silently, while maintaining his whimpering voice.
"They were--The cadets of squad 34. Thomas Wagner.....Nack Tierce...Milieus Zereminski.....Mina Carolina..." his voice trembles, while sobbing quietly. "....Eren Yeager! These brave five upheld their duties. They died valiantly on the field of battle!"
My breath grew shallow, feeling my heart sink in my response.
"Oh god.........."
Armin continues to weep, "I'm so sorry, Mikasa! It should have been me that died, not Eren!" he apologises, feeling the weight of those deaths were upon me. My feet slightly stumble back, my head growing numb from the intensity of the pain. "I--I couldn't do a thing! I'm worthless."
Mikasa kneels down again resting hand upon Armins, "Armin, calm yourself, we haven't got time, for you to get emotional right now," She says softly, only hear her voice grow more distant. She soon pulls him up, "On your feet."
She then turns to me, "Corporal, if we eliminate or bypass the titans at HQ," She began. "We can there refuel our gear, allowing us to get back over the wall. Is that assessment correct?"
Nodding, I grip my blades.
"I will go on ahead, creating a clear path for all of you to get inside," I inform them, as their eyes widen.
"But Corporal, Mikasa--" Marco went to protest, when Mikasa turns to him.
"I can do it.......I'm strong, real strong," She cuts in, raising her sword. "None of you come close, except for the Corporal here who has risked her life for you cowards! So none of you come close!"
Turning to Mikasa, she shares a sad glance.
"I'm not asking you all to die, but to survive," I break the heavy silence, attaching my handles to the sharp blades. The sound of steel clanking together, while everyone's eyes fall upon me. "I'm your superior, and I fought for years..........this is nothing to me. Follow Mikasa's example, sometimes you need to cut ties with your fears so you can overcome them!"
Without another word, I push off activating my ODM flying towards the building.
They all call out to me but I ignore their cries, while angling my eyes towards the targets before me. The air was growing colder, and my bones were aching all over. Leaning my body forward, I fly faster than before hearing the wind pounding against my ears. The sudden rush of adrenaline was spiking, my will to keep moving on. A titan was in view, as I twist my body angling down before slicing through the thick flesh.
Not long I hear the war cries of the soldiers behind, as a smile curls upon my lips.
"That's it, good work Mikasa," I muse softly, before allowing Mkasa to take down the past titans from behind. Keeping forward I make my way towards the building, as a large crowd of titans were suddenly in view. Hooking on one titan, I flip my blades downwards before locking on target. With one fell swoop, three titans were taken down by my hands.
Blood sprays like a shower, coating my body before evaporating into thin air.
The building is in full view as I came barreling towards the titans, before their attention falls on me. My hands slightly grips more tightly around my blades, while allowing my mind to be clear. Striking one down, another comes from behind. In a downpour of bloodshed and carnage, my anger soon starts to cloud my vision. My arms were aching, my will was taking over.
"Come on!!!!" I yell, while my blades slice through again with a clean cut.
My lungs were burning drly, while my body was moving on it's own. Soon glass shatters in a moment, as my eyes soon turns back to see the soldiers making inside. Relief soon washes over me, feeling more relieved before seeing more titans bounding their way towards us. Embedding the hook against the brick wall, I
