"well it's a good thing you're not, then."
Valerie smiled at the crying girl in her arms, giving her a tight squeeze as she helped her to sit down onto the ground, hoping that would be at least of some kind of help.
"Don't worry," she spoke in a reassuring tone, leaning in and pressing a chaste kiss to her lips-- which was happily returned, for a few seconds, before the two parted. "I'll handle this."
As the brunette stood up, she turned to face Andrias, who was sitting impatiently at his throne, tapping his fingers. She gave him a strained smile-- the same kind Sasha had given her barely an hour before. "I don't think you know what I'm capable of."
She swore she could hear whispers echo in the room after she spoke, yet with this seemingly new intensified hearing, along with her crazy good vision that gave her a perfect view of everything around her, she couldn't find out where it was coming from.
The King snorted, unaware of what the girl was talking about. "Am I supposed to? You're nothing but an object in my way. You're no match for me."
Valerie sighed, feeling her eye twitch and turn gold for barely a split second, before it faded and she reached for her sheathe, grabbing out her knife and twirling it around innocently. "Well, since you're clearly clinically stupid, I'll point it out for you. Does the name..." she paused. "Gold, ring a bell in that brain of yours?"
Andrias's eyes seemed to narrow as he stood up in an angry manner. "Impossible! My father banished that frog-forsakened entity over a thousand years ago!"
"So did his father. And his father before that, and his father before that- it's been done for eons, and yet you just... forgot. Seriously."
It's your turn now.
OH MY FROG FINALLY- THANK YOU.
Valerie's eyes turned gold with that shiny exterior, her voice changing to a higher pitch-- one that was no longer her own, it was Gold's. "I thought you would have known better."
The air hung heavy as the newt's face changed (he seemed to be going through the five stages of grief), his face went from anger, to shock, to fear-- and then back to anger as laughing fell from the practically possessed girl's voice-box.
"O-Oh! You should see your face!" The sound of Valerie's usual voice was blended in with Gold's-- having some kind of almost static glitching effect as it switched back and forth through her words. To say it was creepy was an understatement, especially with the way one of her eyes also flickered from gold to her normal ones-- with those narrowed pupils, before they settled on just gold.
"That's..." The King-- for once, was lost for words. He really thought he'd have the upper hand in this situation, but here was this random, fourteen-year-old girl, who had somehow been chosen to hold the golden gem's extensive set of magic-based abilities.
"Now, usually, I would kill you on the spot," Goldrie said, spinning around and flicking the base of her hair. "Because, well-- we'd both absolutely relish in that," She leaned down, wiping the shocked Marcy's tears and smiling as she turned back around. "But unfortunately, you're too important for the plot to be killed just yet, we're barely getting started! However, if you'd like a pointless fight..."
As the entity possessed girl placed her hand out to the side, a quick shot of gold light hit one of the frog robots, which immediately seemed to power it down-- as the gold faded from Valerie's eyes.
"You get a pointless fight."
And it seemed like her voice was back to normal.
As Valerie turned to meet the eyes of her friends, she smiled sweetly, as if she hadn't just shattered reality as they knew it. "Who's with me?"
Anne seemed to pause, as if saving that whole scene in her head to ask Valerie about later, before her eyes hardened and she looked to the King. "I am! the three of us have all made mistakes, but you... you're evil. We're gonna stop you right here, right now. Sasha!" she pulled out her sword, looking to the blonde.
Sasha smiled, looking over at Valerie with determination. "we got your back!"
Everyone seemed to follow the example, pulling out their designated weapons-- readying for a battle.
"You guys are serious? Okay," King Andrias seemed curious now, and finally acknowledging that this was happening, and doing it with a smile-- at that. Then, his tone got darker as he pulled out a flaming sword. "Then, let's have some fun."
In the heat of this battle, it was where everyone seemed to come together. Sasha and Anne were fighting together despite their differences, Yunan and Olivia were protecting each other (unsurprisingly) heck, even Grime and Hop-Pop started working together.
Valerie, on the other hand, seemed to be going solo, kicking, punching, and stabbing her way through the frog robots that came for her. As her back was turned, she could hear one coming for her, but before she could get it, the familiar sound of a crossbow arrow hitting metal filled her hyper-sensitive ears and she spun around, meeting her girlfriend's eyes with a smile.
As she ran forth and wrapped her arms around the girl, seeing that all of the robots had been defeated, she heard a shout from a big blue newt echo through the room.
"ENOUGH!" He bellowed, stabbing his giant sword through the floor, creating a wave of yellow shock that sent everyone flying in different directions.
As a familiar pink pollywog came towards him, he tried to smash her with his fist, but she was quickly saved by Frobo-- who was then smashed by said giant fist. But when Polly was 'up next'-- she just so happened to grow legs.
huh, that timing was... awfully comedic. Good job, Gold.
Thank you.
Then Polly-- under Sasha's idea- - ran past Andrias to grab the box, managing to take out two of the remaining frog robots along the way. But as she grabbed the box, the castle started to descend. Slowly, luckily.
As cheers were shared among the group at Polly's success, The King spoke up.
"Not so fast. You've all got spunk, real chutzpah." His face changed from happy to anger-- something it had done a lot today, as he brought up a certain pink frog boy that was in his clutches. "but this ends now."
Valerie looked down next to her (where Sprig was previously) and then back to where he was now. "how..." she muttered to herself. Did he just break the rules of space time? DID HE JUST BREAK COSMIC LAW?
"Guys, don't listen to this bully!" Sprig said as he struggled in Andrias's grasp. "I'll be fine!"
"we'll see," said man replied in a condescending manner, shifting his hand to hold the innocent boy outside of the window. "Now put back the box-- or this twerp learns how to fly."
"SPRIG!" Anne exclaimed worriedly to her best friend, before turning to the pink pollywog who had the box in her grip. "Polly, do what he says!"
And of course, she was quick to under the girl's request.
The castle started to ascend once again as Polly made her way back to the group. Valerie felt herself look from side to side. Was this it? Was there... nothing else that could be done? She'd admit, she felt guilty, above anything. Then, a familiar hand gripped softly on her shoulder, and she leaned into Marcy's touch-- something that was oh so familiar to her, and comforting enough to get her through anything.
"Okay dude, you have what you want," Anne started, she seemed to be surrendering for Sprig. "Now, please, put him down. He's my best friend, in this world, or any other."
There was a pause.
"That's the thing about friends, isn't it? The more you love them, the more it hurts when you let them go. Allow me to demonstrate."
And with that, Sprig just seemed to... slip through his grasp.
Out of sight.
Valerie felt the air tense, and her eyes widen. Then, a familiar tingling sensation in her head-- it wasn't her anger, but it didn't feel like Gold's either.
Oh my god.
It's finally starting.
She was quick to put the pieces together as her gaze shifted over to Anne, who was on her knees with tears streaming down her face-- then, her eyes turned blue. That was a glow Valerie was all too familiar with.
The blue gem on the box started to flicker, before the light traveled through the air and surrounded her at her base. the brunette off to the side could feel the magic crackling in the air, and relished in it, breathing in deeply.
You wanna work together on this one? Valerie asked the entity in her head, closing her eyes to focus as the magic of her own stone started to crackle through her veins.
Always.
As her eyes met the angry Anne's, they had some kind of silent agreement between the two of them-- almost combining their rage as Valerie's eyes coated with full on glowing gold.
"Give him back..."
She heard Anne say, with tears still running from her eyes.
"Give... him... BACK!"
Both of them disappeared in flashes of their own respected colors, Valerie quick to take out the remaining robots that surrounded them with gold power strikes before teleporting to help Anne with the big blue elephant in the room.
As Andrias brought his intertwined hands down to try smash the elusive blue girl, Valerie delivered a hard bang to the back of the King's head to gather his attention back to Anne.
Said girl was currently on the ceiling, surrounded by a glowing blue aura, as she released her wrath onto the King of amphibia, who hid like a coward behind a shield. As it seemed Anne had trouble getting through it on her own, a familiar brunette was quick to step it, placing one of her glowing gold fists against the King's shield.
The combined amount of the two's power even started to crack the walls and pillars around them, and despite Andrias's "mighty" roar in attempt to scare them off, his shield ended up cracking against his head and sent him towards the ground.
The two girls landed gracefully, Anne in front, Valerie behind.
"give him back," Anne said again, though this time, her voice was weaker. "Give him... back."
The brunette behind her hopped forward, linking her arms under her best friends shoulders to keep her from collapsing, before she laid the girl down on the ground, letting her catch her breath.
She heard a chuckle from the King, whom she glared at menacingly.
"Looks like one of them can't control it," He said, grabbing out his massive flaming sword again. Valerie prepared for a second fight, but yet, before she could, she saw Sprig run over to the tired girl.
Before she could listen, however, she noticed Marcy, off to the side, trying to get the music box to work. She ran over to her girlfriend's side, listening to her mutters and pleads for it to work, before she turned the crank a couple of times.
"oh my frog, thanks, bunny."
"NO!"
Andrias bellowed. Valerie turned, seeing Sasha and Grime offer to hold him off, for the time being, at least. Her eyes widened as she made her way to run into the portal, standing half in-half out of it, watching Anne and the others quickly join her.
"Sunshine, hurry!" The brunette exclaimed, holding out her hand for her girlfriend to grab so she could pull her into the portal.
"I just need to-"
Shing!
Valerie's heart stopped.
Her eyes scanned over the situation in pure and utter disbelief. "no, no... no... no..." she muttered over and over again, feeling tears start to well up in her eyes and a heaviness both in her chest and in the back of her throat.
"Now look what you made me do."
that was what Andrias said after stabbing a thirteen-year-old.
the noirette stammered, tears gathering in her own eyes. "I-I'm sorry... for everything..." she managed out as she went limp.
"MARCY!"
"SUNSHINE!"
Valerie and Anne yelled out different things in response to what was happening. Now, the brunette's first instinct was to sink to her knees and sob relentlessly, but with a split second left on her hands, that wasn't what she was going to do with it.
In that moment, she managed to turn all that pain into rage, putting out both of her hands as Marcy seemed to disappear in a fit of gold, and reappear in Sasha's arms-- who was across the room near a window.
Valerie and Sasha locked eyes, and it was like the first of the two was sending a silent threat.
If I come back and she's alive, you're forgiven. If not, you're dead.
And with that, in a blinding white light, she-- along with the Plantars and Anne-- were gone.
-
They all landed, eyes closed, sprawled across something... metallic.
Valerie was woken up by loud car honking, as she heard the Plantars exclaim sounds of awe and questions about where they were. She looked over the cars, and the signs and the big buildings, and her and Anne seemed to chorus in an answer:
"we're home."
Crying, screaming, sobbing on the floor, I'm not okay guys, and I'm sure you aren't either.
Okay, got a few things I'd like to say:
Number 1: we have Goldrie! yes, that's Valerie being possessed by an entity that holds basically every power in existence, shush.
Number 2: Valerie has heightened sight, and hearing now! Just a few more senses to go :)
Number 3: Thank you all, so much for 2K reads! I cannot explain how happy I am- if this many people love my writing enough to read about an oc I made, I feel like I can do anything tbh
Number 4: we also reached a hundred votes! remember to vote, guys, and thank you. You're really helping me take off.
Number 5: I know SOMEONE'S gonna ask, so let me set this straight-- The only reason Marcy didn't die after Valerie sent her back, was because one of the Gold gem's original powers is healing! she'll tap more into that later.
one more season to go-
but I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter, despite how saddening as such. It's a lot shorter than my other ones, at least I'm not making yall suffer for 4000+ words lmao
I love you all /p
see you in the next one xx
